Todd remains the starter

Might as well get your anger out now. Tuberville just said that Chris Todd will start against Vanderbilt, though he showed support for Kodi Burns.

Here we go:
  • On the quarterback situation: ``Chris will be our starter. I thought Kodi did good. He played 25 snaps and made some mistakes. He came in and gave us an opportunity to get the fans all excited. He did make some athletic plays. The more he plays the better he's going to get. We need to get him in there. But you've got to have a starting quarterback and a backup. I'm proud of him. That third-and-5 play was huge. He looked like he'd been out there forever and made that play. That's just a step closer for him growing up."

  • Elaborating on Kodi's mistakes: "Sometimes he just gets too excited. that's typical. He hasn't been out there in a game like that. That's his first real big game of the year."

  • On fans booing Saturday night: "It's a growing-up process. I hope they were booing me and not the players. They handle it. They understand it. We talk about it all the time about the priorities and responsibilities of being quarterback. You get a lot of credit; you get lot of blame. You have to take both with a grain of salt."

  • On Wario Fannin's future: "I think he'll be moving back to tailback. We were just trying to get him through his shoulder and get him hit so many times per game and get him stronger."

Unfortunately, no surprise there.

I guess they are going with the strategy that he's played well every even numbered week. (Vs USM & LSU)

To me the only way this offense will be successful is if we play both guys and frequently substitute them. When Todd is in there we can't run and when burns is there we can't pass, we've got to play them both. I'm cool with todd starting, but burns has got play as well.

But now that Kodi has played well in front of everybody, there's pretty much no way he doesn't see at least some time in games from now on. I expect he will get as many, if not more, snaps vs. vandy.

And trading them out frequently has proven ugly. We can't "win" folks. Yet we're scraping by.

I just can't stand, most of all, to watch this nutty, predictable, Pop Warner style rushing "attack".

Auburn has lost tons of luster over the last 12 months. It all started with the disagreements between Borges and Tubs over 12 months ago. Let's face it. And let's get the news out there. If you're an AU OC you'd better win quick, win big, and take the first big opportunity that comes your way. Follow the lead of all the DCs thaty have come and gone under Tubs.

Jay,

What are your thoughts on Burns/Todd ratio at Vandy?

i'm trying hard not to picture lee corso wearing a commodore hat. i keep waiting for a breakout week that never seems to happen. that said, 4 wins and 1 loss indicates we have one heckuva defense. war eagle.

Todd/Burns ratio?

65/35 in Todd's favor.

As far as Sgt. Slaughter's suspension, I wasn't able to get solid information on that.

He definitely played against Tennessee.

Well at least Todd is due for an average game, we get them every other game.

Who knows what Burns would do?

I figured it would be Todd since Burns had never started on the road before.

To me it doesn't matter what Kodi's done on the road before. Todd started at Miss St. Was that a learning experience? He did nothing to help the cause, which is still to score points last time I watched Alabama play.

with no threat of the deep ball defenses will continue to play up on us. the safteties have no reason not to play deep. god bless chris todd and his jacked up shoulder but for goodness sakes, we need to have a threat of some sort, whether a deep ball or running. if the only way Kodi can get better is to play, then damn the torpedoes.

maybe next year chris's shoudler will be healed (at least somewhere close to 100%) and he can contend for the starter's slot. nothing against him, but with the execution of our offense so far, he doesn't have the x-factor that can make plays when things break down which has happend way too frickin' much this year so far.

the way I look a this qb situation is this year we will not have great qb play in a meaningful game, maybe they will do ok some games, but not great. Chris Todd isn't going to be the answer next year either. Since we are stuck the rest of the season with average/poor qb play why not put in Kodi, who has a chance to be good in the future and let him take his lumps. Playing this 2 qb garbage is like treading water...you stay afloat, but you don't get anywhere. And if anybody wants to say that a 2 quarterback system works, please don't point to Florida in '06 or LSU last year because that is not how we are using our guys.

Mr. Mexico,

Why do you say that when Kodi is in the game we cant pass? If I'm not mistaken he did a really, really good job on his first posession and would've been perfect if not for two drops that were just ridiculous. After that, Franklin reigned him in and turned him into a RB. That's not Kodi's fault...

Why does everyone say we cant get solid QB play?

On Kodi's first drive he avoided TWO sacks and still managed to throw a dart to the sidelines on the run for a 10 yard gain!!! There arent many QB's in the country who can make that play, and we have one who can!!! WHY IS HE WASTING AWAY ON THE BENCH FOR MOST OF THE GAME????

I feel like this whole situation is a prank that I'm not in on. After the Bama game I'm pretty sure Ashton Kutcher comes over the loud speaker to tell us we've all been Punked.

It's not going to be Ashton, it's going to be Larry Blakeney.

I honestly don't understand this whole thing. It's so bizarre, I can think of nothing intelligent to say. Apparently it's as entertaining to watch a train wreck as it has always been though. ESPN keeps following us around.

If our offense was a NASCAR race, we'd be that car way back there that is so far behind he looks like he's in first place. i.e. we're about to get lapped. We have also become a joke. ESPN is coming to Vandy for one reason. To watch them beat us.

I think this whole thing is a first class example of the relationship between ego and stupidity. I have this feeling that CTF used to try to pound square pegs into round holes when he was a kid.

well said hip hop. i think we are officially in the twilight zone, bizarro world, whatever you want to call it. left is right, up is down, black is white.

i'll turn 40 next year. don't claim to be an expert, but been doing the auburn football thing since 1982. i have never seen anything so completely non-sensical as what is going on here with chris todd. the guy literally could not finish the game. kodi had to come in just to complete a flipping pass, but we are to believe todd still gives us the best chance to win?

and the worst thing tub can come up with to say about kodi is that he is "excitable"? well then, give me excitable. to heck with todd's mediocrity, i am begging for excitable.

3 SEC starts for Todd=24 offensive points.

So if I understand correctly, 8 points a game is acceptable. And Kodi is not capable of producing more.

hip-hop,

to me solid and average qauaterback play are the same thing. I agree with your statement about Kodi and that is why I think he should be in there. However, for every great play he makes like the one you just mentioned, there is usualy one like his first pass against So. Miss. I just don't want to sound like somebody who thinks that Burns is ready for a Heisman run

bill,

I dont know how one mistake against SMU all of a sudden makes it a trend. To say for every good play he "usually" has a bad one I just dont get it. It was one mistake. Todd has three INT's in the last two games and threw into double coverage three times on one drive. I dont see how the same cant be said of Todd.

And I do agree that Kodi wont solve all the problems, but like someone said above, I just dont see how any sane individual thinks Todd gives us the best chance to win...

you don't have to think that kodi is the next vince young (or, say, steve young on madden 98) to conclude that he deserves to be given the same chance that was afforded to todd. after all, we have been told repeatedly that they are "neck and neck". so why does todd's mediocrity get the benefit of the doubt when the offense doesn't work but not kodi's excitability?

the answer is bias, loyalty, ego, stupidity, whatever you want to call it. i know a lot of people don't want to believe that a coach would let his ego interfere with his ability to play the right guy. but there is no other explanation at this point. kodi has a better arm. kodi is a better runner. eliminate all of the impossibilities (i.e. arm strength, running ability) and whatever is left, no matter how improbable, is reality.

I guess it's going to take the humiliation of a loss to Vanderbilt for our head coach to see that Todd is not an SEC quarterback. I doubt he'd start at Troy.

Lets not get ahead of ourselves guys.. Kodi Burns has not proven that he is a good passer at all yet. That being said, most high school quarterbacks throw better than Chris Todd.

You know who is feeling just like we are? CTT. He bought this crap too. It's written all over his face over there on the sidelines. He is standing there speechless with his mouth hanging open a lot. He looks like he's thinking, "I can't even come up with a few good curse words!! WTF?!?!?!?"

Well it is time to play Kodi. Teh rest of the offense os not good enough to over come Todd's physical limitations.

Note to all the Kodi lovers. Kodi still doesn't know the offense. he only managed to look at one receiver before running in the game. He also cannot throw a touch pass. he flips his wrist on short passes as if throwing a bomb and a quick BB pass results. A screen pass with that technique is out of the question. So Kodi will have a lot more turnovers and a few very good ohysical plays ie: "street ball". The really sad aspect of this is that we really don't have any other options. Oh yeah...it's a good ting we aren't tring to run west coast with Kodi...that would really be a joke.

hoopie, i mean no disrespect, maybe your last comment is tongue in cheek. if not, what offense do you suppose one of the top 10 qbs coming out of high school 2 years ago might be capable of running?

were our coaches just dead wrong when they targeted him as our #1 qb priority and chose to travel halfway to timbuktu to recruit the kid? is it unrealistic to expect our quarterback coach to take that kind of talent and mold him into a good qb?

seriously guys, i know it isn't an exact science, but there is a reason program's go to war over talent like kodi's. so he's a little raw. so he needs some work. THAT IS FRANKLIN'S JOB. the kid has soooo much more upside than todd. maybe he pans out, maybe not, but why in the world would we rather WASTE time on the juco washout than try and develop the talent?

Tony Franklin is an idiot. Chris Todd made just as many bad plays as good ones. I guess the interception was a good play? How bout all the terrible passes? Yeah....your a complete idiot Mr. Franklin
