Tuberville speaks, 10/5
Let's take a gander at what The Head Coach had to say today.
- On The Auburn Offense's growing pains: "This is our first time do it. Everybody else is going through the growing-up process with two new quarterbacks. That's what makes it tough. You don't have a Brandon Cox back there. Brandon can pretty much know what's going on and understand adjustments. These two guys are learning as we go. When you change something, it changes something for them."
- On not using the Ace formation more during the second half Saturday: "We did go back to it some. We went back to it a few plays. We wanted to come back with a few different things in the second half because they had adjusted and we didn't have a lot out of that formation. When you don't have a lot out of a formation, they pretty much know what you're going to run. That'll steadily get better. That's always been a good formation for us."
- On Burns' role: "I think you'll probably see a lot more of Kodi as we go through the second half. The first half we're kind of finding out what he can do, what Chris Todd can do. The upside on Kodi is huge. He hasn't thrown the ball as well as we've liked but neither has Chris Todd. The quarterback usually they get scrutinized more than others and I scrutinize them more on the ability to run the offense as far as how they execute."
- More on the QBs: "Both Chris and Kodi have to play better for us down the stretch. We've got to improve at the quarterback position for us to have a chance to win games going through the rest of the year. "
- Tuberville's Take on injuries:
- Robert Dunn: "Ankle." Status for Arkansas unclear.
- Ben Tate: Leg. Fine.
- Sen'Derrick Marks: Ankle. Probably OK for Arkansas.
- Jerraud Powers: Hamstring. Status for Arkansas unclear.
- Brad Lester: Right knee. Probably OK for Arkansas.
- Mike Goggans: Left ankle. Probably OK for Arkansas.
- Craig Stevens: Turf toe. Will play, will need frequent substitutions.
- Robert Dunn: "Ankle." Status for Arkansas unclear.

Was I huffing too much glue in the parking lot earlier, or don't I remember Tubs saying they're would be "major changes"??
He told the players that.
He didn't reporters that. I'm not sure what his plan was with that comment to the players.
Practice has ended. I'm going to talk with some players.
I'll report back when I can.
Oh, OK. Thanks Jay!
Keep up the great work!
(That was some STRONG airplane glue)
Major changes? I didn't hear any changes at all. sigh....can't say I didn't expect this.
I'm not kidding and I'm not trying to be a hater.
I think even more amazing than Vandy being 5-0 is Auburn being 4-2,with the way we have played on O.
The major changes are we will now use that little running play from the shotgun on every play...it's gotta work eventually.
If anyone believes they are going to scrap the spread your kidding yourselves. If a qb has always received the snap in the gun his whole career he can't turn around in mid-season and learn to drop back from under center and throw with any real success.
I think Burns has had experience dropping back from under center from last year, not sure about Todd especially the way he kept dropping the exchange.
I have come to this conclusion. It would not suprise me that all O coaches will be let go after this year. It is my opinion that now that they are tenured Tub feels ok about doing this and will allow Franklin to bring in a coaching staff that can coach his offense.
Jay - thanks for the great reporting on CTT conf.
OC's aren't going anywhere in my completely speculative opinion. We have a kick ass recruiting class waiting in the wings and CTT is committed to the spread. I'm going to believe that once he gets a little more comfortable with it he'll get out of CTF's way (a little).
None of that does us any good for the rest of this year. I'm just going to keep the cabinet well stocked and buckle up.
Tuberville has lost his fire. He has become more CEO than coach now.
More of the same. Always some excuse. New OC, the team is young, etc. Another year in the toilet and it's "wait til next year."
I, for one, am tired of waiting for next year.
Jay,
I saw this quote on another site just wondered what you think about it.
``I think Tony's done a good job of adjusting. I don't know whether we've done a good job of adjusting to what we've gone to. But, he's our offensive coordinator. He's worked harder than anybody here, and he's as disappointed as anybody here. And he takes as much of the blame. He probably takes more blame than he should.''
I'm not sure who CTT means by we in saying he's "not sure we've done a good job of adjusting to what we've gone to." Is that players and/or coaches? This means to me either CTT has not adjusted or the other offensive coaches have not adjusted. I think some coaching changes are coming at years end.
What changes could have been made that weren't worse than the alternative? Get rid of Franklin now=Nallsminger for the duration=similar results. That offense was a bunch of cold snacks ago but I don't recollect it being much better. Worse than that, recruits start jumping ship faster than the rats phred alluded to in an earlier thread. Moreover, you can't can position coaches mid-season because someone has to coach them. Its gonna be a long season but look at the bright side.....at least we can raise our consumption tolerance (for glue, pop, etc.).
The bad thing is, most of the media & coaches who don't watch our games just figured we lost on the road to a good Vandy team.
Vandy's not that good, despite their record. There a team that we have better talent than at almost every position, but we can't seem to put it together on offense for more than a drive or two.
It's tough to watch.
With 37 total years, and 27 I can remember (the first five I was too young, and the five at AU I was too drunk) I can't say that my consumption tolerance is all that much better than it was when I started. I hate losing. I most especially hate losing while being embarrassed and ridiculed all at the same time. Particularly when there is no really good excuse. The ones we are getting are not acceptable. They could have told me all that crap 3 months ago, instead of talking about this "wonderful" problem that we have. Yea, it really looks "wonderful" to me. Wonderfully terrible maybe. Cheers. Have a fresca.
Some interesting stuff from the players this afternoon.
Ryan Pugh and Ben Tate were pretty adamant that they don't understand why Auburn went away from the Ace formations.
They were diplomatic in their presentation, but I know what I heard.
IMO Todd is a better QB than Burns at this time. However, it seems that after throwing a few long balls Todd's arm gets weaker and weaker. I believe that I would let Burns have the majority of practice, resting Todd's arm. Start Burns and have Todd ready to finish the game when the opposing defense is tired. Burns will improve faster than Todd if played. His problem is not physical. The more Todd plays the weaker his shoulder.
That Ace formation is all about Pugh and Tate. Pugh pulls and blocks to the outside, Tate has to break one tackle to get 12 yards downfield. We ran that play, what, five times and got a first down on four of the five attempts.
Maybe next week we'll run it six times. Maybe that's the major change.
I'm not bitter.
You don't sound bitter at all.
I hate shop drawings, which is what I am staring blankly at, and the spread offense, which is what I was staring blankly at last night.
Total cover up BS...per the norm now days. Can't believe CTF hasn't been shown the door yet.
I don't know, maybe we ARE over-reacting. I guess good things could happen from here. It just seems doubtful.
Hope remains...remember that UGA lost to Vandy last year. It was close to this time in the year...they had 2 losses (also to SCar) and Richt made some changes and they were outstanding at the end of the year. They kicked out butts. His changes inculded giving up his duties as play-caller. Maybe Franklin can do that...
UGA lost to Vandy 2 years ago. They got pounded by UT last year. They also had a servicable QB. We don't.
I'm with ya Phred....they certainly didn't do much to temper our expectations. If anything, they seemingly went out of their way to raise them.
By the way, if you see anyone trying the triple lindy off the upper deck next week its me.
