Tuberville speaks
Here's a look at some stuff The Head Coach had to say today:

- Cornerback Jerraud Powers is "doubtful" for the Arkansas game this weekend.
- What is Auburn's offensive identity?: "What we can execute. We're still going to run the spread. When we go to something else (ie Ace formation) and we come back to the spread, it has to work."
- On Bob Petrino's role in Jetgate: "As that time, I was a little confused about what was going on. If there was going to be a change, why not him?"
- On the changes at practice for the offense: "Our offensive side of the ball sounded like the defensive side. We've got to be more demanding at practice. We've got to worry about what we do at practice."
- On players like Rod Smith and Ben Tate being outspoken about their confusion: "The offense is not going to change. Everybody's got to be on the same page. They're disappointed. They got beat by a team we should have beaten, to be honest."
- On quarterbacks: "They make more mistakes than anybody. Sometimes, you overload them. It's a tough transition (to the spread), but I'm sold on it. Our recruits are sold on it."
- On foreshadowing the team's current problems: "I prepared the team for this. I knew there would be growing pains."
- On the Vanderbilt loss: "We should have won that game 13-0, to be honest."

Jay is he really sold on it?
He has to be.
I love that Tuberville thinks that we should be able to shut out every team. It's funny how Vandy didn't score when Auburn was moving the the ball. Vandy only scored when Auburn started going 3 and out every possession. Auburn has a better chance at shutting teams out if the offense/special teams at least makes the other team start on their side of the field.
"I prepared the team for this. I knew there would be growing pains."
So AU now has a "process" as well, or is it going to be just a bad experiment?
at this point a change will not be made. just get used to seeing a bunch of the same(get a small lead and sit on it). tuberville football at its best. its just a hard pill to swallow after so much hype.
but it is pretty sad to hear that the oc is out there showing the players what to do at this point in the season. what have the assistants been doing all year?
Jay,
I believe CTT really is sold on it!
Recruiting Ranking at #7 in Rvials and #4 in Scout presently proves he has to be. He has sold each of the guys on it to get them to come to Auburn!
No one has signed yet
If we execute well and can avoid stupid penalties, then we can produce enough points to win every game we play.
This whole week of practice should just be on execution. If not, there should be an execution.
I enjoyed the part about how CTT forewarned this kind of problem.
Suuuuuure.
Well he made one comment when we were picked at media days to win the West about having two new coordinators.
That's about the extent that I remember though.
"To be honest"
no i want the usual lies
Good call, anon, as usual.
I'm still convinced that for the last 3 years, the "leadsitting" is really just our offense getting slowly shut down and smothered as opposing defenses realize that they can easily cover us against deep passes and move the LBs and DBs closer to the line and stuff the short passes/runs. I've watched that happen game after game for 3 years now and seen the fans blame "sitting", "conservative", "no vertical passing" as the problems. Every game I see that we do try t go vertical, get smacked and then either abandon it or finally throw anyway and get intercepted.
I'm glad he's sticking with it. These things just don't happen overnight people. I truly believe that Franklin is a good coach and the spread will work at Auburn. We've just got to give it time and the players and fans just have to get used to not being a "power" running team anymore. That's okay!
Recruiting ranking #7 in October, not February. Rivals isn't going to be doing to much revisioning of those AU rankings. Bama's? Yes. Toss out the rankings. Just give me speed and top class defensive players. Oh, and give me some OL that can play.
"To be honest, we just started coaching today. We consider the first 6 games of the season...preseason these days.
"See, we like to put our backs against the wall as tightly as possible. Look at LSU last year. Heck, look at Florida the year before that. They were sorry.
"We're taking it one day at time here at Auburn. And, we're getting better and better."
Prediction: This is all going to end very badly. It seems like Tubs got on Franklin’s a**. I feel for Franklin. The spread has proven it can work, I hope Franklin just gets the opportunity to follow through. I think we're at teh point where we have to stick with the spread for the next few years, seeing as that is what we are recruiting for.
I think that's a myth really. That we are recruiting for spread. What does that mean really? We have 3 guys who are under 6' that can run like the wind and cut on a dime. Is that spread? Or is that just speed?
There are several big name WRs in the NFL under 6', that have major wheels, that can cut on a dime, that are strong enough to endure NFL type hits.
Tubs pretty much said we were recruiting for the spread. Our receiver recruits are tiny. Also our "scat" running backs. Brandon Heavens (5-10, 165), Lavoyd James (5-10, 175), LaDarius Perkins (5-9, 180), Rodney Scott (5-9, 185), Travante Stallworth (5-10, 180). I don't think these guys are power running backs or possession receivers.
These are generous figures by the way. These people are not that big or tall
Rodney Scott is not a scatback.
Perkins, Heavens, and James literally are that size. Perkins comes in the mold of a Tristan Davis. Scott will be a 200-205lb back by his sophmore season and he plays to drive the snot out of tacklers. He runs hard and through the tackles. James and Heavens are nothing but speed and moves. Every offense needs guys like that. James can catch a BB in the rain. And McCallebb resembles one of those Clemson backs by about his sophmore season.
Another point. Tyrone Prothro was not recruited for "spread". He could run like mad and catch anything you threw his way.
I agree Prothro could do that... but that is one player. We have taken 5 or 6 guys like that. Obviously it is because of the spread. Not all of our commitments have "prothro" like ability, regardless of what you see on "Rivals.com" highlight films. You have no idea who these kids are playing against. They could be playing a team that gets beat 64-0 on a consistent basis.
Perkins, Scott, McCallebb- tailbacks.
James, Heavens, Stallworth- receivers.
Stallworth most likely a DB.
These guys can get open. I guarantee that. I'm not a Rivals disciple. So that one doesn't work.
I like how some, not saying anyone in here went from the first couple of games blaming it all on Burns and Fannin not playing, then the next couple of games blaming it on Franklin's system and play calling, to now blaming it on other coaches and that Franklin's system is the greatest thing ever if he gets to run it his way.
I'm sure someone later will come up with the logic that the D forcing too many three and outs and our offense has to spend too much time on the field and they get tired.
Guess the sort of famous ex football players that shares a name with a famous TV dog was right.
Franklin coaching all "divisions" of the offense and even seen a lot of it himself. Prehistoric "dynamics".
Rk,best post of the day.
rk, i will gladly stand behind my earlier remarks about burns/todd. burns should be playing. todd should not. todd is not an sec caliber qb. i don't know about anyone else but i'm not backing off that one bit. this offense will never succeed so long as todd is our qb. may not work with burns either, but we don't know that yet. give him his southern miss and we will see.
as the season has played out something else has become clear and that is that tony franklin is not a good "coach." he might know the spread up one side and down the other but he is a crummy teacher and overseer of the offense. his leadership skills up until now have been pi$$ poor.
i don't think that's a flip flop. i think its just calling it like it is as events unfold but whatever.
You know, Byrum is getting a free pass on all this. Missed PAT, missed FG, and the difference is one point. Let's light him up for a minute...
