Auburn video, 11/2

There (may be) a political advertisement of some kind at the beginning of this video. I didn't put it there. That's the Advertiser. What can I say?

Enjoy nonetheless. This clips stars Jason Bosley, Kodi Burns and front-runner for HABOTN Freshman of the Year Dee Hood.

No commercial. Good comments. I didn't realize the passing yards. That is actually a good thing.

Biggest passing day since 2005.

And, honestly, that was the first time Kodi Burns looked like a player to me.

It seemed like Bosley was a bit surprised by the question, or the fact that Tubs made the comment.

I didn't see the political ad. Oh, well, I got 12 or so in the mail today.

R. Hood can coach fundamentals? Any way we can get him to retire and come back to Auburn to coach?

Good video Jay - you oughta be in Hollywood.

Random thoughts - Tubs biggest problem is his mouth, he runs it way too much. Easy to forgive when winning, but it gets irritating when losing.

I still hope they let him stay. It will hurt Au's national reputation to fire a coach who's had his success, and our rep is already bad.

The first 2 legs of my wild prediction have come true - TT beat Texas and Florida killed GA. I never said AU would beat MS, just that they would beat AL and finish 7-5. Still possible, and GA looked very beatable yesterday. Get some players well and we still have a chance. The bammers will have their ultimate meltdown if AU beats them and knocks them out of #1. Don't think it can't happen. All the pressure will be on bammer and they have had nothing but good luck this year, while AU has nothing but bad luck. Luck eventually evens out.

Mr. S - Tried to listen to your show, but never could hear any audio. I could read the chat, but couldn't hear anything. Probably some issue with my computer, but thought I'd tell you.

You've gone from a Tubs apologist to calling for his head? What sent you over the edge?

Well, Maybe, just maybe,,,if,,,,just saying,,,now if we took our lumps early with Burns and played him over a formerly better but now damaged QB,,,,maybe we might be better off... As Pat Dye used to say "Hindsight is 50/50." (Actual Quote).

I am no Burns fanatic.....but now that I am aware of how damaged Todd actually was....well...that is another question about CTF's judgement.

Great work as always Jay.

I was thinking last night after the TT-UT game about how Will Muschamp has lost a game each of the last 2 years on a TD with 1 second left on the clock. Painful.

On Billy Reed ... he's a Transy graduate. I introduced myself to him in 1998, said I was a Transy graduate getting into the journalism business, he gave me the PFFFT/Heisman stiff-arm and walked away.

His blog sucks, by the way.

Would you say that the team progressed yesterday? As hard as that game was to stomach i did feel some positives such as Kodi (outside ints), a few runs looked very strong, some positive play out of a guy like Dee Hood.

When i found out about facebook in '04 i literally looked at it for nearly 8 hours everyday for atleast a week. it was so funny to be at the library or as i like to call it "Club Draughon" and see all of the "HOTTIES" (of course this is prior to my knowledge of HABOTN) looking at facebook at literally every computer you passed by. Welcome to the book.

I haven't talked with anyone important since before the game, but my Tony Franklin Gut Instinct™ tells me this organization seems pretty down.

Good video work Jay. Did Tubs talk more today or did you just write more. He seemed kinda chatty judging by the amount of quotes.

I think I agree with you, Willie J. The problem is, I don't see a good solution to the problem. It feels like a lose/lose.

Remember Eddie Murphy on cassette tape? In one monologue, he talked about people who talk to movie screens. I'm reminded of one lady who was talking to the hero of an action movie ... "what the hell you gon do now? you done dropped yo pistol when you bust through the window!!"

About Tubs comments related to players: he said if a faster receiver(someone other than C. Slaughter) had caught that pass from Kodi it would have been a TD. If that is true why did Slaughter have to slow down to catch it? His comment on not being physical enough to run, is that the fault of the players or the o-line coach?

9:16 PM

The players didn't seem down today, though.

As I've said before -- they think they're two great drives away from getting this all straightened out. Maybe they're right. I don't know.

Jay-Several posts have stated this team looks a lot like UA last eyar where theya re expecting something bad to happen and then it does. it almost becomes self fulfilling. Does it seem that way to you?

I really think head coaching is not the biggest problem, but he is the one that get paid so he is the one that must get the crticism. Do you think if changing assist. coaches and keeping Tubbs will turn this ship around?

Any chance we could lose 5 in a row?

9:33 PM

Tuberville will have to do a lot more than usual to get someone good here to make sense of this offensive situation.

He's never cleared out space for a guy to bring assistants with him. That obviously will be in play ... provided Tuberville remains the head coach.

9:40 PM
Blogger coosa said...

On the fact that this was the best passing game since 2005- don't forget that Kodi didn't go over 300 yds until that last utterly meaningless drive that started with 30 seconds left.

And has anyone else reached the same conclusion that I have - that Kodi doesn't throw a deep pass with any more velocity than Chris Todd? Is he doing that on purpose, or is he lobbing because that's all he can do? I remember him throwing a deep pass against New Mexico St last year that showed a real arm - haven't seem a single pass like that this year.

I'm not sold on Kodi ever being a great QB. Its a shame CT got hurt; I think he could have been really good if he was healthy.

9:53 PM
Blogger coosa said...

>>>So any early score predictions on this weekends game?<<<

AU wins easily, so does bammer. Bammer then beats state and AU beats GA. The pressure on the tide to beat AU is incomprehensible; they choke and AU gets a couple of big breaks that are long overdue and wins.

FL then crushes bammer and then Penn State for MNC. AU wins the Pizza Bowl.

AU at the bottom right now; time to buy the stock and and get ready for the big bounce that is coming. Buy fear, sell greed.

10:01 PM

The kind of pass you throw depends on the route and the coverage. He's got plenty of arm. He's just got to get his brain and his feet to get on the same page. We'll see if he can do that or not.

Jay, do you think Tuberville might be trying to not let a good game go to Slaughter's head? Wasn't he suspended earlier in the year for "undisclosed" reasons? Maybe he knows that Rod is a good example for Chris to follow. He probably could have phrased that better, but that's my guess.

The campfires are just too fast for me. I can't even read fast enough to read all the posts, much less add anything. Now we are moving at a pace I can manage.

A good time to reveal my true identity - I am the man what forced Bear Bryant into retirement in disgrace. That's the reason I have to keep my identity top secret - lots of bammers would still like to have me killed, and now they have the money to hire a hit man.

I'm not telling the whole story - unless somebody asks. ;)

I do wish that the Advertiser would but line scores in for HS sports like the Courier and the Herald do. Same for Basketball season, I wish they would put minutes played line scores versus the box that they use. I know, I know, you have no control over it. But I miss that.

Your writing is superior to what I used to read in both the Courier and the Herald, and they had and have some pretty fair writers.

Great work on those C. Todd stats. Now, the question is why did those "other plans" lead him to bail to a JUCO instead of another D-1 school? Why wasn't he sought after as a transfer to someplace besides a Kansas JUCO? Am I the only one who's curious about this?

Let's not be critical of anything anymore. Past is prologue. Let us watch and cheer as if it were the last Auburn game we ever get to see.

I'm becoming more and more the fan I was in the late 90s. That fan that just loved waking up on Saturdays knowing that I got to watch an Auburn football game and wearing my orange and blue. The wins were some of the happiest moments of my life. The losses taught me what disappointment felt like, but also that it was what made the wins so sweet. I wish that everone could remember that the sun always comes up on Sunday....even when they lose to Ole Miss. Just ask Ben Obamanu that.

I think it is real good that 'ole Cody burns is staying confident and keeping his cool through out these last couple of games. He has improved a great deal, but could have easily gotten down and started feeling sorry for himself after yesterday. It shows that he is mentally strong, which is a great quality for YOUNG quarterback to have. I have a feeling that he will really impress some people next year, if he continues to improve like he has!! Something to look forward to next year!

Coosa, you're way off on a couple items.

#1 Kodi has more than ample arm. He threw those routes you're talking about with a little too much touch. But those two passes were the best two passes an AU QB has thrown all year. In other words, he's figuring it what it takes to make a play. You must not have paid much attention to the 93 MPH fast balls he threw on 3rd and long several times to complete first downs on those short crossing routes?

#2 Cox's yardage in the GT game was also meaningless late in the 4th. Auburn also abandoned the run in that game and has no idea who Kenny Irons was yet. As usual, Lester went down gimpy early.

Guys, please don't compare Todd's arm to Kodi's. That's just silly.

5:31 AM
Blogger Unknown said...

Chris Todd is definitely done for this season. Next season there is no telling what happens. A lot will depend upon the new OC as well as how Kodi grows as a player. If Kodi learns to make the same kind of smart decisions that I saw from Todd, then we aren't going to see Todd as a starter again. If Todd's arm heals 100% and Kodi doesn't develop some consistency, we could see air Todd in 2009. Unless something drastic happens, Todd is done for this season.

Crudup - Good comments on my post. I didn't mean to say that Kodi's arm is in the class with Todd. Just don't like the way that he keeps lobbing the deeper passes.

Watching the Big 12 play, you never see one of their QBs lob the ball like that - they fire it down there. The only QBs that I've seen lob so many deep passes the past few years are ours. Cox lobbed it, Tobb lobbed it, now Kodi is too. Maybe they are being coached to throw it that way? With Cox and Todd, it was probably the best they could do. I thought Kodi could beat that.

When was the last time an AU QB stood in the pocket and fired one 50 yds down the field? Only one I can remember the past 3 years was that one pass Kodi threw against NMS.

I guess I was the only AU fan that ever liked Cobb - he could launch it down there. Anybody remember the pass he threw to Aromashadu (sp?) against ARK in 2002? I'd like to see another AU pass like that before I die.

Admittedly, Cobb had a few problems in other areas of his game. ;)

If Kodi can throw it like that, I'd like to see him do it just once this season.

I find it very disturbing to hear Tuberville's comments on Slaughter. The guy just had the best game for an AU receiver since D. Aromashadu in the '05 UGA game and Tuberville criticizes him.

If Slaughter is a role guy, then we need more role guys.

8:29 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I agree that he has the arm strength. I think he is not being coached enough to develope it. Look at the passes he has thrown, flat footed that are just short of hitting the receiver in stride.

Hawthorne at the end of the ARK game. Slaughter in the Ole Miss game are two.

I have been an advocate of throwing the ball deep just to keep everyone off the line of scrimmage. Several team have lined up with NO safety daring us to throw the ball. UGA and UA wil do it and they will blitz us to death if we do not throw it 25 or more yards down the field.

8:32 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Look at how Texas threw it deep from thier own 9 and the guy caught in stride at the 50 and took in for a TD. In my 35 years of following Au I am not sure we have every done that.

No guts no glory. If you want to win in bigtime college ball, then you better call some big time plays to win a game.

wootang - End of UGA '05, Cox to Aromashadou in stride at midfield for a TD (Courtney Taylor with the assist in the endzone). Wasn't that play from behind our own 20?

9:07 AM
Blogger michael said...

Texas' third receiver is faster than most receivers we have had. Plus, that was a Texas Tech d-back on him. Not sure many SEC corners get blown by like that.

By the way, my SEC pride is pretty much shot. I am willing to admit the Big 12 is better this year. Did I really just type that?

9:10 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I think the Big 12 has several quality teams and several quality QB's that could play in the SEC. At least 4 teams would have chance at the SEC this year. They might not win it but they would be VERY competitive.

These coaches take chances to win the games, not just sit back and get a 10 point lead and pull a Pat Dye 'the hay is in the barn' defensive battle. You just can't put that much pressure on the D every game.
