Tuesday schedule, 11/18
Hey everyone. Thanks for another enthusiastic day/night of comments. For reasons that aren't even clear to me, I think (and have thought) it's important to cover women's basketball. Thanks for showing some token interest.
FOOTBALL SITUATION: Practice starts at 9 a.m. and will run until approximately two hours. We're getting Montez Billings, Jason Bosley, Antonio Coleman, Tez Doolittle, Chris Evans, Mario Fannin, Walt McFadden and Jerraud Powers afterward.
We'll also get reaction from Tuberville.
I'm planning to get a video up during the early afternoon. I'll be blogging as I come across interesting things said. Notable comments are an endangered species this time of year for a 5-6 ballclub.
T-SHIRT REMINDER: If you haven't already, please relay your t-shirt size in the post below. We're trying to make an accurate assessment of which sizes we'll need. I haven't yet been able to get the order form posted to the blog, but I'm working on that. Your webmaster doesn't know how to do that just yet.

How many of the walking wounded will be back to 100% by game day?
Jay---What do you think about the Men's basketball team this year? NCAA tourney birth too or NIT more like it?
Women's basketball? Keep it coming.
Winners are always welcome (as well as other members of the Auburn family)
if it wasn't for the HABOTN i probably wouldn't have a clue what was going on with the women's team. i hope they do well this year.
I haven't see the men play yet.
I'll pass along my thoughts later this week. They're playing Mercer (Wendnesday) and GW (Saturday) in the coming days ...
Jay G what is a email address you can be reached at?
Thanks
Mercer beat Alabama so they are clearly good enough to hang with an SEC team with talent.
I have been at both mens games. I am pretty excited. There is depth and it will only get better Wednesday night when Frankie gets his first action.
All,
Apparently my Brother pointed out to me that I was being negative about the Tubs situation, and I guess I did not realize it.
Let me make my point clear that I am for Tubs and I want him to continue to be the coach. I have stated that previously, but I guess I was just playing devils advocate on here sometimes. It definitely appears taht Tubs will be our coach next year. I hope that everyone will get behind him and support the program, even if you disagree with this. You can make arguements for both sides of this equation. I just hope that Tubs is able to go out and hire the best possible
The talk is that TPTB are going to restrict the money that Tubs is allowed to spend on the new OC since we already have two on the payroll, so I would expect a Borges type hire.
We play Alabama in less than two weeks, so I hope we can all get behind our Auburn Tigers (This includes FSJ) and support the kids, no matter who the coach is.
WAR EAGLE!
On a football note, it looks like the BCS is close to a deal with ESPN to run through 2014. ARTICLE
That would be interesting taking the big time bowls and NCAA FBS championship to cable only.
Jay..I don't follow any BBall and accordingly won't comment, but I'm sure others will. AU has a great women's program history. Kudos to you for raising the cognizance of the current program.
If the PTB restrict Tub on how much he can pay a new staff then they are either dumber than I thought they were or they are giving TT enough ropw to hang himself with.
Eh, Mercer's not that good really. The locals tell me they got lucky vs. Bama.
I'd say it'd be pretty amazing if the men's team made it to the NCAA tourney this year. I don't see them getting an at-large bid, but maybe (a la Georgia last year) pulling the upset in the SEC tourney. NIT is more likely in our future.
The women's team is loaded this year. They could be a very good team this year and will challenge Tenn. and LSU for league dominance.
Er, that should read "rope".
Jay G email address?
Michael Hogan,
I think the alleged limit is smart form a fiscal point of view. The recession it on and Auburn is looking at a 20% budget cut in the next two years and probably increasing student costs as well. Throwing $6 mil doesn't make a lot of sense and neither does several hundred thousand on another experiment. I've thought that the next OC would be somewhat of an unknown any way for obvious reasons.
mr./mrs. anonymous, you could go to one of the articles Mr. Jay G Tate has written and it will display his e-mail address. pretty easy yo.
I assumed it would be a somewhat unknown because Tub doesn't want to go hire his replacement like he almost did with Petrino.
Any chance y'all would be willing to take Mark Gottfried off our hands? Heck, I'll even throw in Jim Wells
Jay - There may be easier ways, but you can go to http://www.sendspace.com/ and upload your order form. That will you give you a link you can share/post on the blog. Then hotties can click that link to download the order form. I would upload it as a .pdf, but you could do almost any format.
I know we don't discuss much recruiting but I just wanted to post this to show that it ain't all bleak.
Here is stats from Cotton's last game in HS.
On Friday, Cotton went 24-for-43 passing for 439 yards and four touchdowns in the Mustangs' 40-6 victory over Northeast in both Anne Arundel County teams' season finale.
He also carried the ball 14 times for 123 yards and rushed for two second-half touchdowns.
thanks, monica.
Jay on iphone - you wearing your hat?
not cold here in the complex.
This is getting interesting. Are you wearing pants, Jay?
XXL with the HABOTN. NO campfire
I support all Auburn athletics (both varsity and club) all the time. I like hearing about everything from the Football team to the Triathlon Club. In short, I appreciate all the student athletes who take time out of their lives to represent Auburn.
No offense, but you all should have seen my stats when I played against Upward Bound students the last summer I was in Kentucky. I had 24 points and 12 rebounds. The guy I was playing with was Jordan-esque, with over 30 points, many of them from 3 point range. Then when I played against some high school varsity players, I was only able to play as a role type player and manage some rebounds and a few baskets. Finally, when I was able to play with some guys, some of whom were former college players, I was just glad to hit a basket or two and pass for a few assists.
Not doubt that Cotton is some kind of athlete, but HS numbers are just that. Let's see what he does when everyone is his equal or better. I seem to recall that Kodi Burns put up some gaudy numbers in HS.
I would rather us get a Brian Brohm or Chris Redmon type QB, those type of HS numbers seem to translate better in the College game.
What fiscal sense does it make to tighten the purse strings now? Do we want to continue to wallow in mediocrity? The best way to make that happen os to limit ourselves on who we can hire? Let me get this straight, we don't want to continue to suck on offense so let's make sure we don't pony up enough to hire the best staff we can? The point has been made here before that winning is always going to generate more revenue than losing. If we cough up say 2 or 3 hundred thousand extra for a new offensive staff, does anyone think we won'te get it back in tickets? As much as it pains me to say that bunch in West Vance does anything right, they at least grasp the concept that you get what you pay for.
Oh Michael - there was a line....and I think you leaped over it.
Jay's e-mail addess is on the front page of HABOTN for those of you looking.
Eddie, I am glad to see you getting behind Tuberville. I don't think the speculation on who a new coach might be is positive at this point. I do believe CTT will be the coach next year.
As for money for a new OC, I bet CTT has a virtual blank check in terms of OC salaries. They were willing to pay Muschamp 400K to stay. Numbers like that are cheap in comparison to how much more money a winning football team brings in.
Jay, on a normal week, we practice on Sunday and have Monday off. Are we abbreviating things this week with the off day, or just charging ahead?

Haha, West Vance.
I didn't think many people knew where Vance was...
Any of you read this today?
Jay G., can you provide some insight into a Tuberville week in comparison to this? I'm not saying he doesn't work; I'm just curious to how it compares.

Yes, I read it Mr. Sensible.
I think that Tuberville and his staff probably put in similar hours.
It's amazing to me how detail oriented the great coaches are.

AU1, sorry if I crossed a line. I guess I just get a little worked up when I think about how we've thrown away a golden opportunity to take our program to the next level. I just like a little lively debate, too. Please don't wield the mighty banhammer JG!
I, for one, am glad we've made the investment in hoops. I think we've got two outstanding coaches ... I've just wondered if Lebo can win at a place where basketball is unimportant. I think you parachute him into 50 programs in the U.S., and he's a championship coach. At Auburn, I don't if he's dynamic enough to attract talent. Hopefully, he can stick it out to the new arena to see how it goes.
Internet has been down at Auburn ... again. We lost internet at the stadium Saturday as well.
I'll get a quick post up right now. I have to get home first before I create anything of substance ...
We still field a men's basketball team? I thought part of the Cliff Ellis divorce was he got the team, we got his RIAA Gold Record for "People Get Ready."
