who thinks the LSU-Bama Fan will be all the talk on talk radio today? mainly state radio...I know that area and I wouldnt doubt it. They could have been more civil and slapped each other with white gloves or at least a fair duel. My buddy who lives up there says the 2 guys involved had quite the records and reputations that fit the scene, basically saying they werent deacons at the church.

Going back a few comments to the basketball / chris porter stuff..

Those WERE awesome times for basketball, one of the few times I've ever stormed a court was Jay Heard hitting a 3 from nearly half court to beat Alabama. I also went crazy many times watching Porter throw down some thunderous dunks. Porter was dominant his junior year, he used his atheletic abiblities to his advantage, and had a pretty good jump shot and turnaround too. Porter just wasn't big enough for the NBA to play forward. he didn't have the shooting range either. and he had a week problem.

Lebo has had a tough go of it - basically building a program from scratch - but the signs of progress are there and I think this season may be the start of a good upward progression for men's bball. We basically played last season with 6 players. Anyone who's played basketball (I have) knows how tough that is. We are much deeper this year and if everyone can stay healthy hopefully we'll see some better results. Ideally you'd like to see the JUCO guys have a Chris Porter-like impact, and they may, collectively - but Porter was sort of the glue that brought that team together - the missing puzzle piece so to speak.

They have adopted the HOTTIES as their own, which is awesome. You guys are going regional.

to answer your earlier question....Auburn will play Alabama tougher than Miss. State will.

I don't think either will win, but anything is possible I suppose.

I have no doubt that Auburn can beat Georgia or Alabama. That has been one of the fun parts about Tuberville. He finds ways to win games we probably shouln't. Of course, we also find ways to loose games we shouldn't, but that just adds to the excitement.

2:14 PM
Blogger KJtiger said...

On a typical year I would agree with that statement. But this is not a typical year. There is nothing that I have seen from this team that would lead me to believe that we can win. We have lost to the worst in the SEC and I see no way we can beat the best. It is sad but maybe I am wrong.

IF Bama is going to win a nc they better do it this year.

2:59 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

Bama and UGA have huge edges over us in that they both have very experienced QBs. That will be tough to overcome.

Also, we have a serious lack of play makers on offense. Rod Smith is certainly a solid contributor. Maybe Sargent Slaughter will be also, but it is a huge question mark. Ben Tate is a very solid runningback, but I wouldn't consider him the type of back that could take a game over. Even Tre Smith seemed to have more of an ability to do that.

For this team to be successful in the last two games, we will have to play outstanding defense and hope to have a change late.

I think we have a chance with UGA. With UGA having problems with the UK QB Cobb on Saturday, that bodes well for AU. If Kodi can produce like that on Saturday, we will have a chance. A big Chance.

Other than that, I have no idea how we plan to stop Stafford. I am sticking my head in the sand on that one.

3:20 PM

Monica, Bama will probably have some early losses next year, but, with their defense returning, much like ours in years past, they will be in every game.

Hey FSJ,

What was Wimp's favorite sport?

Sock-her! Get it?

Bada-Bing!

All kidding aside, I like to deflect heavily to basketball conversations, b/c it pains me so deeply to discuss anything football related.

Back to bball: Gottfried always seems to bring in the talent, but always seems to squander it somehow. I think you will see Lebo bringing in bigger and bigger recruits now that we have begun to seriously upgrade our facilities. The lack of a true practice facility and having to share BEMC was a SERIOUS detriment to the basketball programs. Lebo has brought some stability to the program and has done something his predecessor's couldn't: convince the admin to upgrade the facilities.

P.S. I will only speak of football items in pig latin...eway illway inway gainstay amabay. arway agleeway.

Blogger Quitstina said...

What gets me about the deaths is how several media outlets and other conferences' fans are portraying this as an SEC thing. Like we are all killing each other over football games. Yes, we care about our teams, but like I said before, I doubt that happened soley because of the game.

Hi Jet. I'm from Escambia County - Brewton to be exact.

Faker - That was back when high schools had to actually be good to get into the playoffs. That year Atmore (Esc. Co. High) beat T.R. Miller. It was our only loss and kept us from the playoffs. The next year the moved to the current playoff system and TRM has been to the playoffs every year since and been state champs 5 years since then.

4:10 PM

Escambia County had a heckuva team that year. I believe they had a few players to play Division I football as well.
