Powerful stuff from Chris Evans. YOu can tell that Virgil left an impact in this kids life and it will be difficult for him to deal with over the next few day and onward.
Good Work as always Jay.
The excitement about UGA seems positive. I just hope that we have the horses to keep up, unfortunately I fear not.
You can tell that Chris has really has taken the passing of Starks to heart.
You guys were very considerate to end the interview with Chris when he started getting emotional. Big props.
In other news..
How will we stop Mareno?
Sorry, repost from last thread:
Guys / Gals- IT'S GEORGIA WEEK.
I live in Georgia just outside Atlanta, and I cannot stand Georgia. My hate of Georgia is just under that of Alabama. Not only do I want to beat them every time we play, I want to pound them into submission. It has been a long couple of years since our football team decided not to show up the last two games.
I know this year has not been a good year up to this point. But I still believe that this team has the ability to pull off the unexpected. We have a lot of players on our roster that hail from Georgia. There should be plenty of motivation from within to get our team fired up for this game. Believe it or not folks, we are still playing to not have a loosing season and a bowl game. I know it would not be a great bowl game, but any bowl game gives us a chance to have extra practices and get better as a football team, and these players deserve for something good to happen for them.
I believe in Auburn and I believe that we can pull off the upset. We can still beat the dead horse that is Tubs coaching future, but lets all try to remain focused on beating Georgia.
All Auburn Fans with tickets. PLEASE SHOW UP AND SUPPORT YOUR TIGERS. They need you most now. I know the game time sucks, but suck it up. It will probably be the last time that most get to see the tigers play till next fall.
With all that said, WAR DAMN EAGLE.
That's a fine legacy to leave. Hopefully, some of the players he mentored will pay it forward.
Something to keep in mind as we try to figure out how in the world AU will beat UGA.
The Chris Evans segment ... That's what it is all about. Life changing relationships.
And now ... back to football.
I've got a question. I just saw the Philadelphia Eagles run the "Wildcat" formation with one of their WRs for a TD. Ricky Williams did this earlier with the Dolphins. A plethora of college teams use this thing.
How has the old spinning single wing become so popular so fast?
Just wanted your thoughts...
I give credit to Malzahn. He was about the first one to start running the "wildcat". Other college teams started copying it and I believe that the NFL decided to to do after the success of what was happening at the college level.
Thats my opinion on the matter.
Is anyone else like me when ever they watch the NY Giants play they wish Brandon Jacobs had been born about 2 years later so that we could have had the tandem of of Kenny Irons and Brandon Jacobs in the backfield.
"...we could have had the tandem of of Kenny Irons and Brandon Jacobs in the backfield."
You're kidding, right? No way would the Tuberville staff have left a kid the size and speed of Jacobs on the offense if he had been here later or otherwise stuck around. In fact, did they not try to move him to defense while he was here?
What a shame that the players must prepare for one of the biggest games of the year after losing someone close to them. I am sure that he would want them to continue and I hope that how they behave will be an honor to the man they respected. Winning of losing isn't everything, the growth of these young men are paramount.
jacobs is good. wish he good have been here even a year later.
I don't know if they tried to move him to defense while here I do know that he did run the ball a few times why he was here.
Also, Jay and anyone else who is out there. I haven't seen much run about Phillip Marshall's statement that Tuberville will be here next year. What thoughts are there on this? Why would P. Marshall make this statement? Who is to gain by Marshall making this statement? Could Marshall be used as a front to make this statement by someone in power who wants Tuberville to feel safe where someone will have to pay us rather than we pay them? I really think this is an interesting topic to really dwell down on.
For all of those showing extreme hope for UGA, let me ask, what did our tie with 6 minutes left in the third quarter show you that we might have a chance to defeat Georgia. Somehow, I think that in a couple of years, Kodi may actually be Vince Young, I just doubt that it is this year.
not wanting to be negative, but, I just think we would have put that crappy team away a lot sooner if we were going to beat uga. I still have hopes; but, yesterday was disappointing, except for the view of the future that is kodi
PM's piece was just a commentary. Just opinion. His point in writing it? It's what he does. People pay to read and hear his reporting and his opinions.
That was a wonderful video Jay. Thanks!
mark, with so many players held out and the offense limited, yesterday wasn't a good indicator.
You have the Michael Guarantee that we will shock the world and beat both Georgia and Bama. I can feel it. I can feeeeeeeeel it!!!!
Huge enormous props to whoever stepped up and said, "Appreciate it Chris." Was that you, Jay?
I agree about the thoughts about the optimistic look at our chances against UGA. Keep in mind that many players who were on the sideline against UT Martin may be back and ready to go against UGA. The only glimmers of hope that I share about UGA is their tendency (minus the LSU game)to play close games with their opposition. The thought that the preseason #1 team in America went down to the wire w/Kentucky and in all reality easly may have been beat gives me the hope that we may catch them in a "hurt" state. They have had equally as many injuries as AU has and have struggled due to that. My other hope is that the toll of playing on the road in games aginst LSU, UF, Kentucky, and now us will have taken a toll on them like our month on the road did on us. I really share that hope as a tiny tiny shimmer in a abundant sea of pessimism
Mon, I agree that is what PM is paid to do. However, he wouldn't make a statement like that if he didn't have some belief it would happen. So why does he believe Tuberville will be back? Could it be say someone in power told him that Tuberville would be back so that a school that maybe interested in him either hires someone else or pays us to hire him. In other words to avoid us looking like Arkansas with Houston Nutt.
That was me, yes.
It's not like the other hacks are rude. I just happened to be the guy sitting right there...
yes, they jumped right in and that was very cool
but please hush while we thank you for being the coolest and kindest.
As far as PM's column:
I know his sources. He has great sources. PMarsh knows stuff. I detect a different vibe from the people I trust most, but that how the world works.
Five people watch Weezer play a perfect concert: Two think it was awesome, two think it sucked and one guy was so high he thought it was Duran Duran.
You've gotta be cool to be kind.
RE: GA Victory
Jan Terri has spoken.
And so it shall be.
P.S. Phred is right once again.
"To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;" Excerpt from the poem Success by Bessie Stanley
Biscuit -I don't know if you've had a chance to read the full commentary. Here's just a couple of sentences that address WHY he's saying what he's saying.
"That’s an opinion, but an educated one. I base it on what President Jay Gogue said Friday, how he said it and on conversations with others in positions to know the lay of the land."
This comment has been removed by the author.
do this before what you want italicized
Do this at the end
Great Analogy Jay. I just don't want to be the dude who thinks it's Duran Duran. Or better yet is PM the guy thinking it's Duran Duran? This is what I am saying Mon I haven't had a chance to read it as I don't suscribe to PM's site. The statement by Gouge IMHO is just College President speak and really didn't seem strong enough to me for anyone to take a stance like PM did. My question is from the statement, "and on conversations with others in positions to know the lay of the land" who are those people and why are they telling PM that when pretty much everything else gives people in the know (like Jay) a totally different vibe.
***also how do you do Italics***
what do you do to make it do that ano?

Which is more likely? Auburn upsetting Georgia or Auburn upsetting Alabama
GA - Bama is better than us AND has six years of pissed off on their side.
georgia is more likely. i do not think we can control the line of scrimmage on bama. especially at their house
Ah, so I can be bold?
Thanks Monica.
We haven't beat a ranked team all year. We always have a chance but we won't beat GA or AL.
Best chance=GA only because this game is always interesting. AL with all that is at stake will not let it happen.
Mr S.
Neither, both are horrendous matchups. UGA's weakness is their D but we have no O. Bama doesn’t have any galring weaknesses, so if i had to pick it would be UGA, but i say a 10% chance of winning.
I disagree everyone. I think our best shot will be against Bama. Here are the reasons that I feel the way that I do.
1) Auburn has the ability to hit Alabama where the most damage can be done. That is with short pass routes. Bama likes to stop the run and Auburn can run but the offense is more cohesive to short passes which although haven't been a thing of beauty to this point could serve beneficial against a team like Alabama.
2) Alabama will have to win 12 games that day and Auburn only has to win 1. Alabama is in the thick of the NC game and any slip up along the way will likely cost them a shot at this goal. Therefore Alabama will be playing with the pressure. If they win so what, everyone expected them to. If we win their season as exceeding expectations as it is, will still be considered a failure because their thoughts have now shifted to a NC and SEC-C.
3) Alabama will be playing Florida a week out from us. There is not likely a trap but a potential look ahead, especially coming off of the open week, Bama will have to utilize some of that time preparing for their competition in Atlanta the week following the Iron Bowl.
4) Auburn's defense although has been subject to get killed on the run most of those teams that beat Auburn so badly by the run ran a version of the spread. The teams like LSU, WVU, Ole Miss, Vandy (to a point), and Arky have all run some version of the spread which in particular hurt Auburn in stopping the run. Alabama runs a traditional offense which if the "power" backs can be stopped and the pressure can be put on JPW to beat you behind an offensive line that is way better of a run blocking team than a pass blocking team.
5) Auburn should be it's healthiest against Bama. There will be an off week between the UGA game and the Iron Bowl. Every week we don't play does us well to this point because it allows us to heal.
6) This is Auburn's season, Bama's season has life way beyond the Iron Bowl this year.
I really don't like our shots in either game but I do think that if a gun was to my head and I had to pick one game that I felt a little less bad of it would deffinately be the Iron Bowl.
JGT ... trust yourself
This was decided a long time ago.
Damnit Uga game is 11:30, i hate raycom ahhh
Biscuit
Plus, anything has/will/can happen in the Iron Bowl. I remember us beating them was Tre Smith as our starting RB. The 2004 game, I was as puckered as frog's you know what that entire game. To lose that game would have been earth shattering.
Plus- -Bama tried to give the game away to LSU Sat night. I've said it before. They are sound, but they are NOT the No. 1 team in the nation. UF is going to mop the GA Dome with them the week after we play.
I say we win them both. I'm with Michael.
UGA. bama game has some horrible matchups-1)their O-line vs our D-line 2)their WR's vs our secondary esp. with Powers health 3)their D-line vs our O-line 4)overall team confidence of Bama vs AU 5)a coaching staff with purpose and a real plan vs one that seems to meke up a "plan" as they go along. As much as it hurts me to say I see no chance vs Bama against slim to none vs UGA. I want to be hopeful but I honestly have seen nothing this season to be optomistic about. UGA and Bama both have weaknesses(esp UGA) but it takes a real offense to exploit them which we have yet to show. I hope to be proven wrong.
Auburn matches up much better with Georgia. That's my opinion.
Great quote Monica! Obviously I agree.
"GA - Bama is better than us AND has six years of pissed off on their side."
Auburn is closer to LSU than to UF ----- LSU played Bammer off its feet.
Now, being on the Turd Town is another matter.
Georgia has got to be the better matchup. They have a patchwork offensive and defensive line. Their defense is bound to make our offense look adequate compared to miserable. Georgia makes a lot of mistakes and commmits alot of penalties. I believe we can make a game out of this.
Saw the obit today in the Agonizer for Tommy Trott's grandfather, who played at UA. Says he will be a pallbearer at the funeral.
Sad news all around.
We are going to beat both of them and then win the Pizza Bowl at historic Legion Field.
Then Bammer gets clobbered by FL and then loses to a Big 10 team in the Capital One Bowl.
Coosa- IF we win out, you can say hello to Nashville.
There will be no SEC team in the BHam bowl and more than likely no SEC team in Shreveport this year. Not enough SEC to meet the bowl quota.
We are going to beat both of them and then win the Pizza Bowl at historic Legion Field.
Then Bammer gets clobbered by FL and then loses to a Big 10 team in the Capital One Bowl.
with apologies to jgt for bringing it up, i thought that the approach that kentucky took on offense against georgia showed some success and we know our offense loves the qb draw. we might have a shot.
I love the optimism, but I honestly don't think we match up well in either game. If we have a chance it may be against UGA because they will turn it over and give up some yards.
Congrats Monica on the front page quote.
>>>IF we win out, you can say hello to Nashville.<<<
Rats.I kinda thought it was that way, but didn't bother to do any research. Nice thing about the anonymity of the internet is that you can make any outrageous prediction and there are no consequences when you are wrong. :)
But in all honesty, I think we will have a chance against bama no matter what happens Sat. Let me tell you - all the pressure you can imagine will be on bama and AU has nothing to lose. And I don't think there is that much difference in the talent level of the teams.
Sorry about the double post; trying to post from a laptop that isn't cooperating.
How is it that Gogue is pronounced "gooj"? I still don't get that. But that's how it was pronounced at the game Saturday over the loudspeaker, so I guess that would be the correct way.
Working in ATL surrounded by dawg fans, it'd be great to beat UGA. I also hate Bama, so that goes without saying. If we don't have to work from behind in these games I think we may have a chance.
We definitely have a chance. Is it likely, absolutely not. We need our walking wounded back in the lineup.
So Jay, what is the latest on the injury front for this week? I know its early, but I believe that tells the story of this game.
It's definitely "gooj". We share a first name, so he's cool by me.
Injuries: Nobody aside from Tray Blackmon and Aairon Savage (ie: The Usuals) are out for Georgia. Those DL injuries weren't that bad. They'll all be 95%+ ...
Yes...Congrats Monica on the front page quote.
You can thank me for campaigning for you above!
I cannot believe people get this upset over football. Just terrible.
Tide Fan Kills Two People over LSU Game
Congrats M-O-N-I-C-A- I promise that this will be the last time I spell your name like that.
It takes powerful stuff to make front page. My zinger will be comming someday just like Auburn's offense is bound to show up someday.
Investigators said alcohol was believed to have been a
factor in the killings ...
Really?
Alchohol may have been involved... Wow, just wow. Over a football game.
11;30 AM RAYCOM game, uggh. Well I guess the wife and I will head to the Capital City to check into our one star hotel, where the continental breakfast consists of 3 day old bannanas and a muffin that could break a window. Then we will crash and eat at the Mikata Japanese Steakhouse,Tradition. Nothing better than hearing them beat the drums to the 14th birthday of the night. Then wake up make the drive up, park, not much time for tailgating or waking up. Go to the Blue Bagel, have that early morning beer and slumber to the stadium to cheer on the tigers and pray to god we at least make it compettive. If not, I will personally hurl my funnel cake at one of the three Daves from Raycom.
That is so sad.
Congrats to MonD!
I've been awfully mad over a football game before, but never violent.
For some reason when I read that article, I hear dueling banjos in my head.
patdyeswildturkey, you must stay at the same hotel I always do. I never make it to Mikato's on Friday evening. By the time I get up there, I don't want to venture too far from the room. This Friday will be the last time this season. For a Monday before the UGA game, I'm still extremely jacked to suit up and yell myself hoarse.
Good one FSJ. I can hear the dueling banjos now.
I can't believe alcohol was involved. Who would have thunk it?
I've never really heard of many happy endings with the words pistol, shotgun, and alchohol all in the same story.
something tells me Escambia county will be better off with all three being off the streets. REally, Really sad. Wow.
I am guessing that guy might post at al.com
Did he not realize bama had won? Why so angry?
And did the LSU fan not realize LSU had lost? Why travel to a tide fan's house to talk trash? You lost.
Michael- My guess is that the LSU fan traveled there shortly after LSU tied it up and it was heading to OT.
The worst thing I've ever done after a loss is when I kicked my wife's little wicker foot rest type contraption after the 4th & 19 game against Tennessee during Shula's first year. I launched that mofo...
3 subsequent years of Shula ball calmed me down significantly.
Fake Steve - I have gone a little crazier than you. I told my wife once, ONCE, that every time she came down to talk Auburn started playing poorly. That's the point I realized I was taking this game a little too seriously.
I threw a pillow into the overhead fan after the LSU missed field goals game. My wife was like "GET A GRIP! IT'S FOOTBALL!"
Wait...wait...wait..... Let me BACK UP....
During Shula's first year we were beating the $hat out of Arkansas at home into the fourth quarter. My wife said "This game is OVER!!!" At that point it was like a light switch came on for Arkansas. Matt Jones led them back and they ended up beating us in overtime. Naturally, with my crazy logic, I blamed it on my wife. To this day, if we get up big on someone, I look at her and say don't say it......
This little exercise has been therapeutic for me.
I have never done anything violent after or during a game but I have been witness to a cowboy boot hurled and stuck in the side of a couch, a shattered remote control, and a diploma being taken off the wall and put in the closet. It's just funny to think about now but it was not even close at the time.
Everyone, click back on that link about the drunken murderer and below below it with the comments from the lovely people who post at al.com.
That way you can be thankful that you can come here and discuss things without having to deal with that kind of dialog.
FSJ- Did your wife utter those words at halftime of this year's Georgia game?
FSJ, those poor little wickers that gave their life for your comfort, and that is how you treat them. LOL!
Don't worry, I have done worse.
eddie:
If she did, she did it away from me.
I should have quizzed her about it during that 2nd half....
Hello, my name is Tom, and I overreact to Auburn football losses. BUT NEVER TO THE POINT OF SHOOTING ANYONE. Although I will say I've wanted to a couple times.
Ok...this is going to get really scary here...
Does anybody have any superstitions on game day?
I'll start with one of mine...
I have worn the same exact outfit for each game this year, right down to the shoes. There are others, but I will wait to see what everybody else offers....
Steve, I used to do the same thing. Same clothes, same parking lot, walk the same path to the stadium, same pregame food, everything. That ended with the 2006 Arkansas game where we were # 2 and should have ran all over them and end up getting ran off the field.
Since then I have given up on superstition.
The comments are far scarier than the story. The person in the story is in jail.
Those with the comments roam free.
There is a particular spot on the couch I have to sit to watch a game. Correct clothes, and certain things I can and can't do during a game. For instance. Grilling during the game=bad, grilling before the game=good. Sometimes.
Ok...I'll tell one more. Each season, I buy one of the coaches shirts. For the last six years or so, I have bought a Crimson one. This year I went with the white one. Had absolutely nothing to do with the fact that the last six years have sucked...
Just had to go take a look at all the comments about the UA LSU incident. I'm SOOOO glad this blog exists.
I agree mr.sensible....There are some whack jobs commenting on that story.
After this year, all superstitions are dead to me. I have nothing left to try. Even dusted off the old 2004 shirt with no luck. I give up. It doesn't have a darn thing to do with winning.
Thank you, Mr. S. I didn't even see it until you pointed it out. Yes, I owe my everything to Faker.
Thank you, Faker.
Thanks, Eddie
Thanks, Phred
LOL @ y'all superstitions. Now, I want to hear the ones you AREN'T telling us.
I read those comments after the al.com story and had the same reaction as all of you. Thank goodness for Jay G blog.
Well Mon...you asked for it.
I've eaten the same breakfast each Saturday this season.
I have been sitting in the same exact seat when watching the games at home this year. I must admit during the LSU game, I switched things up and sat in a different seat for most of the 2nd half. But by OT I was back in my usual seat.
I like to eat at Niffers before a big game. Usually win when doing so.
Faker - LOL too, too funny. I still wish I could have seen how you managed to post on this blog during the game with guests at your house. That just cracks me up.
Ok, I'm originally from Brewton/Escambia County. So, I emailed that al.com story to Greg at work. His reply:
"Note to self : keep true feelings to self after big games in South Alabama....:)"
Very easy Monica...
I have my music collection on my iMac. It is tied into my stereo system. I was DJ'ing for the rest of my guests...
Some songs on the play list....
Celebration - Kool and the Gang.
Jump Around- House of Pain
1999- Prince (It has been that long since we made it to Atlanta)
Another one Bites the Dust-Queen
Can't touch this---Hammer
Shut Up- Trick Daddy
Mo Money Mo Problems --(For Logan Young)
So, does the basketball team have a shot of going to at least the NIT this year?
ahhhh...now I have the picture
I like some of those selections. I miss Prince. I'm coming to your next party.
The Vid makes me feel like I am watching A&E - Its like the AU Offense is on Intervention
Auburn's basketball team should be improved this year.
I'm not quite certain why Mark Gottfiried is so confident in the team he has this year. Perhaps it is because he is a goofball.
FSJ, it's because he knows no one will care what he does as long as he doesn't bottom out this season.
Winning in football at Alabama affords this luxury to all other sports (except maybe gymnastics).
I don't know mr. sensible. I really think this is a make or break year for him. I don't think that Mal Moore had the stomach to fire him last year. Dave Hart (who is the de facto AD) won't have that problem.
Fake Steve,
What happened to Johnny Williams? When he left Troy we were all certain he'd be the next AD.
They had pics of the new BBall Arena groundbreaking in the Commons this month. I can't wait for that place to be done...It will be a major help with recruits.
Johnny retired after last season from what I understand.
Williams is retired...works for a consulting firm
Emmett, do you think Lebo is the guy?
emmett:
Alabama was stupid to pour 30+ Million into the airplane hangar that is our basketball arena.
We should have shown a little more vision and built a new one with about 14,000 seats.
With that said, our facility moves recently have been strong, notwithstanding the arena.
We need to upgrade the track and field stadium and pool next. However, I think the Bryant Denny expansion will go first.
Okay, thanks for the info on Johnny Williams.
Wonder what Roger Shultz is doing these days after being canned at Jacksonville St. for the Biggest Loser thing?
MR S - I do, I think he has made some not so talented kids look better than they are. My major concern is that he cannot get big men that work out...which was a suprise, Auburn has always had a few decent big men down low. Even Pat Burke was ok.
I am still lost if he just cannot get them to come to AU, or if he cannot evaluate them out of HS
That BCS check should help with the expansion, FSJ.
Shultz does a Radio show with Stan White on Sundays....ITs here in Mont. on 740am and was in Bham on 690am
Emmett, good Bigs are hard to get in college basketball period. If they are elite, they are only going to stay for a year or so. If they aren't, I bet it's hard to convince them to come to AU - a football school by tradition.
I've heard the In the Trenches show.
I wondered if he had anything else going on these days. I think he'd be an interesting replacement for Kenny Stabler at Alabama vs. the rolling cavalcade of former "stars" they've propped up next to Eli this season.
Yeah, but we cannot get anything close for the post. A 6'6 Center is not going to work in the SEC. I am not asking for Greg Oden...just Kyle Davis or Mamadou N'diaye...just someone to play solid D and keep their D honest
Shesaid, if its one of the 2 infamous La Qunita's, then yes, we stay at the same place. Yea, its sad how bad Montgomery has gotten. Its like kudzu the crime there, it creeps closer and closer out. That part of town wasnt bad. But wife said even with the cheap room rates this our last year there. Next year we will make the move to the newer hotels on near East Chase, etc.
We park at the same place every game. This guys front yard across from the chancelors house. He charges us decent rates and charges visiting fans extra. His hippie kids take the money, he makes bank off of it every year.
Yea then wife likes to shop, blue bagel, tiger walk, tail gate then the game. Also we are upgrading seats next year, we have the most obnoxious drunks yankee auburn fans near us. They run everyone else off. These guys that sit near us make me embarressed for auburn.
Also,
Every few weeks I check the NFL Draft boards to see names, etc. I would say 95% of them have Sen Derrick Marks going in the 1st round. I know he has been hurt the past 2 games. But they said his speed, size and weak class of DE's makes him the 1st or 2nd top DE. I say if by spring he is still up there he has to go with !st round money.

P.D.W.T - did you look at the Hilton off of Perry Hill. They tend to have cheap weekend rates and its a nice place. No Free B'fast though.
Yeah all the Draft Guys love Marks, some say he can play DE or DT...which makes him a big value
My 2 cents on Auburn Basketball:
I believe that Lebo is a good coach but not a great recruiter in the fact that he can't seem to get people to stay at Auburn which leads me to believe in the character of the players he is recruiting. It seems like every year we have players that leave or get hurt. It's always one or the other.
With all that said, I'm also a UTC basketball fan, and I saw that Lebo can coach before he came to Auburn. I believe he needs to improve this year's record and be competitive in order to keep on coaching here, and I believe that he can do that.
That's my ramblings from a mad man segment for today.
This comment has been removed by the author.
The Hilton is good, just stay away from the Marriots on the north side of the Bypass on Carmichael. East Chase is your best bet hotel wise. Just watch yourself at Target, well, anywhere really in Montgomery now.
And that is why we left..
Congrats Monica!
I agree, I want to give Lebo some time.
It is always funny how many people defend our basketball coach, who is getting killed on the court...but many of the same people want Tubbs head on a spike.
Whats really sad is that there are TV spots running all over TV for Auburn Womens BBall, but nothing for the men.
Yeah its crazy how montgomery has gotten, but as I thinkback on it....it was just as bad when I left 12 Years ago. Thats one of the reasons we went outside of town when we came back.
I get the whole "If we build it, they will come" thing with the new BBall arena. I'm sure recruiting will be helped.
But, will fans respond also in this football crazed environment? Will more people go and not just the first few games to check it out. I mean will the bb team actually see some support from the fanbase at large?
Kristina- Winning cures all. If we put a winning team out there, people will come. I was a student during the 98-99 season and we had really good crowds for those games. Crowds are dependent on the product on the field. The Atlanta Falcons are prime example of that this year. They are selling out the dome right now for every home game, and it is all to do with winning.
It wont be long and the hotel in Shorter will be done. They have the Base set, and they have that Huge parking Deck out there.
I think they will have it built before the 2010 deadline.
Then they are building a new hotel (prob. Marriott)and Cabela's on the other side on Opelika.
Auburn Basketball lives and dies off the bandwagon. Win, and you will fill seats.
It also cant we wins from a slowdown O. No Ivy league systems.
Look back at the Chris Porter days. He was an exciting, coked up, dunking machine. Add that to a winning team and you had butts in seats.
I just got through reading the article about killings over the Bama/LSU football game. Simply incredible. It is people like this that give ignorant rednecks a bad name.
I've got a plantar fasciitis, eddie. Will winning cure that? Because I've had it since January and it is really annoying me.
I guess a lot more is riding on these next two football games than i thought.
Steve, the comments made about the article give humans a bad name.
Kristina, I do believe a large portion of the people commenting on al.com are kids. That is why I tend to avoid those forums. Yes, I am certain some are adults too. But I live my life by a simple philosophy. There are stupid people in this world. I try not to be one of them.
Michael- Why do I feel that I always have to google your comments in order to put the puzzle together. With that being said, winning would sure cure that. The sense of euphoria would overtake any sense of pain caused by planter fasciitis.
By the way, I really do enjoy your posts.
emmett,
Porter was not just coked up all the time.....he was also high out of his mind 95% of his time at auburn. This might have been why he missed his plane ride with the Golden State Warriors and they cut him.
The breakfast at the Montgomery LaQuinta is laughable. You can have a bagel or a bagel. Wash it down with your choice of orange juice or OJ. I think I saw a Faygo machine in the back parking lot so I may start saving my nickels today for a grape drink to wash down my bagel Saturday morning.
Steve:
I really enjoy this blog much more than the other true message boards that I watch.
Very rational discussion. I don't believe that there is one idiot among the regulars, from what i can tell.
With that said, could somebody go to CVS and get me some theraflu and drive it up here to Gadsden? :-(
Poor faker. Sorry I can't make it to Gadsden today. But here's some virtual chicken soup for you.
From what I've heard - I think I'm glad I got out of Montgomery when I did. Spent a great 18 years there growing up. Been moving up I85 since. It's a shame you have to be concerned with a crime problem there.
PDWT,
Let's not spread these lies about Chris Porter. He was with the Charlotte Hornets when he missed his flight. The Warriors had gotten rid of him after the drug/gun arrest.
The rest is pretty much true.
TN's top choices:
Butch Davis
Mike Leach
and who was the third one?
Kelly?
Isn't there some rule about not talking about basketball until football season is over?
Monica- Brian Kelly of Cincinatti was the 3rd candidate.
Thanks, Eddie. You listening to Cowherd too?
Yepp, here and there.
Cowherd? ughh.
FSJ- Don't worry, the his ex-Auburn producer is no longer there. So no more ripping on Bama.
oh you hush and go blow your nose
Monica, are those top choices your opinion? It would be interesting to see Mike Leach in the SEC. I think it could very well happen. I think he "only" makes $1.75 Million a year at Texas Tech. A school like UT will able to easily more than double that.
As for Davis, somehow I don't see him leaving North Carolina so quickly. I could be wrong, but Chapel Hill is a wonderful place. I use to work there and after the Bunting years, they have to be tickled to have a decent team. I do think North Carolina would fight to keep Davis.
It's not just Cowherd...I'm not a big fan of alot of the national guys. Rome works my nerves. I think it is his voice.
Steve- That is what Cowherd was reporting today on his show.
Tennessee is going to make Davis turn them down. I question whether he wants to leave UNC though.
I agree with you FSJ. The worst show is the Tricco show. I can handle van pelt a little bit, but the tricco show is terrible.
It's time for the Monicatable, I mean Roundtable.
Is there a link for the roundtable?
I grew up in Montgomery and went to Jeff Davis. At the time, we were pre-Hoover in terms of sports. Largest school in the state and absolutely loved it.
It kills me to see how the PTB have let the public schools disintegrate. kills me.
I feel like Mr. S- Here you go.
740 AM Roundtable
It was a moral victory.
Thanks eddie...
I just jumped off of the Saban presser to see if anybody will throw a member on this blog under the bus.
doug is homering it up today
eddie and faker you have email
Is this guy (Doug) repeating himself?
He's said the same thing like four times.
Mark - I graduated Lanier. Went by my school for the 25th reunion. Talk about your heart dropping. Couldn't believe they still have AC window units. And it may have been the day, but the area seems desolate.
Hey peeps.
Quick update on my schedule. I have a meeting with my publisher at 3 and I'm pretty into that (considering our financial situation), so I won't be blogging until later in the day.
I gotta prep.
Also, the new Call of Duty game comes out tomorrow. I pre-ordered it a month ago, of course, which means I'll be picking up the game today because I'm a nerd.
Sorry for the delay. Talking to the publisher isn't an opportunity I'm afforded very often ...
Oh, it'll be Ode To St. Saban on every radio station today.
I think it should be Ode To Jarrett Lee myself, but whatever.
Good luck Jay.
Monica- That was encouraging. I will keep it up to see what's next.
This guy on right now is an idiot.
I'm too much of a coward to call in...
Good luck Jay. You can bring up how popular this site is and how this is the future to help your cause!
Good luck in the meeting, Jay. I hope she recognizes the value of the blog.
FSJ- Not too hard to call in, when you panic, hit the "Monica" button.
I really wish we could have played the Jarrett Lee of every game but the 2nd half of Auburn.
LMAO Eddie
Dear Josh - It wasn't in Evergreen. It was on Appleton Road about 3 miles outside of Brewton.
wooooo hooooooooo Roundtable is fun today!
Trying to get through on their 800 #...It's busy...
I seem to be firewalled from the roundtable using eddie's link. If there's any other way to listen through the computer someone let me know. TIA
eddie4au said...
"I really wish we could have played the Jarrett Lee of every game but the 2nd half of Auburn."
You bring up a good point eddie. We have done an excellent job this season of developing inexperienced quarterbacks. We did the same thing for that Vandy QB. Hmmm, we just need to figure out how to switch the mojo to develop our own.
Mr. Tommy http://www.sportsradio740.com/ is the only way I know.
here comes the pain
Steve- The problem is that they only seem to develop against our D. They have regressed against pretty much everybody else.
Look at poor Vandy, they are depending on a showdown with UT to go to a bowl game.
BTW - With Jay gone to meet the publisher, does that mean there will be no overflow?
So who has a better chance to beat bama...MSU or us?
get to the calls!!!!!
No overflow- It looks like the damn is loose, but all I see is a small creek today.
Kristina- Us by a 3 to 2 margin.
Eddie, I am jealous of your new avatar...
tick tock
So I guess we can add Jarrett Lee to the list of QBs who had abnormally good games against Auburn. Let's see, Reggie Ball, Josh Freeman, Casey Dick, Mitch Mustain, I'm sure there are others.
Completing a couple of passes against Auburn means nothing for your career.
He is just making my case as to why Bama can be beat.
Kristina- Thanks. I will be there in a month. Can't wait as always. I'm kinda of a Disney nut. It falls right behind Auburn football.
Michael- You left out Andrew Zow in 2001.
AHHH! Me too! We aren't going till next December though :-(
good grief...another break.
Bama has looked vulnerable at times. Stopping Bama means stopping their running game. MSU is probably better against the run than us, but without an offense, it really is hard to see them winning.
Did he say Fake Steve????
Cool Kristina, I will more than likely be there again around that same time next year. We are staying at the Wilderness Lodge this time and we are stoked about that.
:-)
Fake Steve going to lay the Monica down?
OH NO YOU DIDN'T FAKE STEVE!!
