The crew returns from Ft. Worth
Hey everyone. Here's why I couldn't do the campfire today:
Jay Jacobs and several of his athletic department associates landed at AUO around 5:45 p.m. after a day-long trip to Ft. Worth, Texas. That just happens to be where Texas Christian University is located.
ESPN.com, citing anonymous sources, reported earlier today that TCU coach Gary Patterson was expected to be interviewed.
I think it's fair to say that was a credible report.
Jacobs' party included two people I'd consider part of the department's inner circle: Mark Richard and Tim Jackson. Quentin Riggins, the former Auburn player and sideline reporter for the Auburn ISP Sports Network, also was part of the party. He's not someone I expected to see. Jacobs said other people would be part of the search process, though, and Riggins is a credible guy in my book.
Riggins said he couldn't comment when approached just off the tarmac. This was a paparazzi-style rush.
They departed this morning at 5:44, so they spent approximately eight hours in Ft. Worth.
PLANE TRICKY: Auburn's jets were quietly in the hangar for this trip. Jacobs & Co. flew on an 8-passenger jet registered to Warren Manufacturing. That's a Birmingham-based company that sells agricultural vehicles and trailers. The connection isn't clear to me.
IS THE PRESIDENT AROUND?: Rather than walk away from the plane like normal civilians, Jacobs & Co. decided to get all secretive. An assistant ferried an SUV from the parking lot, pulled the truck alongside the airplane on the tarmac and the passengers all but dived into the vehicle. You'd think this was President Bush in a Somalian hot zone.

"Jay,
Just curious here. Do we actually know for a fact that they met with Patterson, or do we just know that they landed at Dallas/Fort Worth?
You said,
"ESPN.com, citing anonymous sources, reported earlier today that TCU coach Gary Patterson was expected to be interviewed.
I think it's fair to say that was a credible report."
But we don't actually have a statement from TCU or Patterson, do we?"
Jay can you please resond. Do we know if a meeting took place?
Cory, is that coming from one of the writers or posters?
good post autiger3 didn't mean to steal it just want it answered.
that is what this whole thread is based on..i havent been on here all day like you...I just came in here..i been working all day and most of the time i just read it..but you had to make your dumass comments..I bet you play World of Warcraft..dude im ending this..i gotta go work hard tommorow to pay your welfare check..later
Patterson turned down a
$3.3 million contract at Washington because the money wasn't coming from the school. Apparently, he said he didn't want to have to owe anyone anything, he doesn't like that much outside support.
If this is the case, he would want nothing to do with Auburn.
Cletus,
I've been here off and on late this evening, not all day. i have my own business and again have no idea what you are rambling about. good luck to you and whatever it is a "cletus" does.
if there was a statement regarding the Auburn job from TCU or patterson i'm sure it would have been posted.
So no we don't know who exactly they were meeting with.
COACH BOOM IS COMING BACK TO AUBURN!!! I LOVE IT!!! WAR DAMN EAGLE!!! Press Conference Tomorrow Morning!!!
If it's muschamp, which it seems like it might be. Three things are for sure...
1. We are going to get our hat thrown in there on the big time recruits once again (maybe not this year, but the coming years)
2. We will have a hell of a defense
3. If he fails as a head coach it won't be because of lack of effort.
so i'm down with all that.
http://www.fox10tv.com/dpp/sports/MuschampCouldBeGoingToAuburn
Who knows though.
On another note, Charles Barkley just endorsed Turner Gill on TNT
Amen on all that Ron
This search just keeps getting crazier by the day. Come on back to Auburn BOOM. Let's give Texas a chance to see how it feels to take your coach.
3. If he fails as a head coach it won't be because of lack of effort.
Exactly. At least we know he will be working just as hard as the other SEC coaches.
The players love this guy.
We need this guy to bring in some 5star talent. I think he could put a staff together that could compete with Saban.
Say my name!
I really don't know if I believe the Muschamp news or not. But every time I start to believe it I get excited.
Heres hoping when I wake up in the morning, theres an announcement waiting for me on the habotn that Auburn's football program will be booming the next few years.
Let's just hope Fox10 tv has more accurate sources then WSFA...
rivals update says sources tell them they met with patterson in the morning and another candidate later in the day.
I'm sure an announcement will be made sometime between tomorrow morning and sunday afternoon since I'll be gone all weekend.
Will you not have internet access?
I think after hearing that it may be Patterson, people would be ecstatic if it was Muschamp.
Maybe that was all part of the plan.
So I get back in and it looks like BOOM!!! is going to be the new coach. That doesn't surprise me one bit. They had to "officially interview" him sometime, and I'm sure they used Patterson as a smokescreen for the interview. I'm now just wondering when the announcement will be.
Probably not, going to be up in Asheville and not bringing the laptop with me, so I'll only have access if the Holliday Inn has it in the lobby.
I'll just have to check out ESPN when we are at the hotel.
"HABOTN Radio on WMSP 740 ... from 12-2"
Was this by design as Jay knows something will be going on tomorrow thus needing HABOTN radio?
I hope so, nothing like an early Christmas present.
So now Phillip Marshall said he talked to Muschamp and that Mushchamp said that all that stuff was false. My question to Muschamp would be, Can you make a definitive statement saying you are not going to be the head coach at Auburn?
I say it's Muschamp at this point, but what do I know, I'm drawing at needles in the hay at this point.
I will give Auburn PTB credit for this, they know how to have a vague search.
If Muschamp is hired, there are a lot of credible reporters (PMarsh) said this was something that wasn't going to happen and that people shouldn't speculate about it.
Anybody think that PMarsh is getting played? I think he is getting played like a fiddle.
Phillip has always maintained Muschamp isn't coming.
He also said it would be Houston Nutt or Jimbo Fisher.
PMarsh is a good guy and a good writer, but he eats what the Auburn media people feed him. He rarely writes anything that disagrees with what they tell him.
So they may be feeding him these names and telling him Muschamp isn't an option knowing he'll get that info out there.
I agree eddie i'm thinking Pmarsh is getting played... he might be right in saying muschamp isn't coming, but whoever gave him his list is definitely playing him.
That's the only problem I have with his website.
I used to subscribe to AUC, but anytime Phillip was asked questions he just stated the company line.
I wouldn't discredit PMarsh. He can't control what someone says. There is not such thing as an ironclad statement from a coach about an open position. That is unless he said these words:
"Well I guess I am going to have to say it, I will not be the coach of Auburn University".
We all know how strong of a denial that is,
I never paid for the website, because I figured that is what would happen + it's pretty easy to get the info without paying.
PMarsh doesn't seem to state his opinion or his opinions almost always match up with what Auburn media relations releases.
now rivals is saying the same thing
Anyway, goodnight everyone...tomorrow could be an eventful day.
what is rivals saying?
William the Crudup ... Please show yourself!
Ron Mexico ... I haven't had the pleasure of reading your fight with someone in a while. You lost that hatin' feelin'?
that they talked to muschamp and he said he hasn't been offered or accepted the job
Rivals just stated that it talked to Muschamp and he said that he has not accepted or been offered the position. Got to love the vagueness. I expect an announcement tomorrow.
Muschamp is probably wondering why people are calling him at midnight.
no phred i had a dispute with someone yesterday, i think it was... so many people on here these days though, it's hard to keep them all straight
barkley... i think he knows why they're calling him
Yeah, I should have said he is probably annoyed by the fact that they're calling him. Why not just ignore it?
Jay J: We are not offering you this job.
Will: I am not accepting the job you are not offering me.
Jay J: Okay, so we'll see you at the press conference tomorrow then?
Will: See you in AU.
yeah barkley, i think the fact that he answered it is somewhat telling... especially answering PMarsh and Bryan Matthews calls... he obviously wanted to tell them something
Biggest question is where has JGT been tonight. He is usually more active on here, I mean 447 post.
I was getting pretty excited about it being Muschamp.
Exactly Phred, until the complete details can be worked out or Auburn announces it, deny deny deny, but never state that you are not interested in the position. Welcome BOOM!
muschamp comes and a better chance of sen'derrick and coleman staying arund next year.
Phillip is reporting Jim Grobe and Gene Chizik will be interviewed tomorrow. More of nothing.
Give me a break. Gene Chizik????
I do know that he personally wants the job, but he was forced to fire staff this year in order to save his butt.
This is getting ridiculous, why don't we interview Charles Barkley?
This comment has been removed by the author.
chizik... great coordinator (maybe better than muschamp)... not head coaching material in my book
I bet we interview Pete Carrol next. I'm sure he wants to prove he can coach big boy ball.
This is starting to get stupid. You can't interview ever coach in division 1 football. Just think how leach feels, he is the only coach that offered intrest publicly and we shot him down.
Sportscenter just reported Muschamp will be announced tomorrow. I'm confused.
I heard the same thing from Sportcenter.
BOOOOOOOM!!!!!! UP LATE SORRY
According to Marshall, Muschamp made the following statement.
“Where does that stuff come from?” Muschamp said when contacted by AuburnUndercover.com. “It’s not true. I’m staying at Texas.”
Jim Grobe is a name that has come up now. I think he is one of the legitimate candidates.
As for Chizik, I seriously doubt he will be given any consideration.
Citing sources at gunpoint, the C.O.B.R.A. news network states that Auburn officials are in talks to interview Tommy Tuberville about coming back to Auburn.
Details of the deal stipulate that Tuberville be paid his $5.08 million buyout from his previous resignation, a $4.25 million per year salary, he receives ice cream every Tuesday at noon and that March 24 be officially declared Tommy Tuberville day in Auburn with a parade.
Good morning HOTTIES. It's Patterson when I go to bed and Muschamp when I wake up. Or GROBE?!?! I knew I should have pulled an all-nighter. I woke up wondering what TCUs bowl practice schedule was, i.e. a day off here or there where GP might make a quick trip to Auburn. I guess that is irrelevant now.
Reliable sources (the voices in my head) tell me JJ was actually in DFW to interview SMU coach June Jones. Or maybe it was June Cleaver. These voices mumble.
Turner Gill said Thursday night:
"Maybe my work is done here, I don't know that," Gill said Thursday at a news conference to promote the International Bowl in Toronto. "There's some things that are probably going to happen, but I don't know when."
http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2008/12/12/sports/FBC-Buffalo-Gill.php
Regardless of where Gill ends up somebody is going to be very lucky to get him. #1 Class Act
yea, my wife came running in saying the local tv station in mobile said muschamp will be named coach today. If this isnt true Jay cant they get in trouble for this. I am like you until I see it I wont believe any name called out.
Agree 100% McLovin.
PatDye - I'm back to I won't believe it until I see them walking down the sidelines.
monica,
Its very frustrating, these searches take over your life, people know i am obsessed and get on these blogs, so i always get asked etc about what i have heard, etc. Which is funny b/c on these blogs we get misdirected alot. Who knows right?
Exactly right! It's driving me nuts. I'm getting on my own dang nerves!
Please dear God,let the rest of the world wake up, hold a presser, and let this be over! My personal fav-BOOM, but just let it be over!
All I have been hearing is the BOOM is coming back to Auburn. WOOHOO!!!
He will need a staff... could explain some of the prior Jacob's interviewies... i.e. Nix and Gardner... also could explain Tubs hanging around as the Assistant to the President and some of the assistant coaches still out recruiting (Willis and Gran) ... AH HAH!!! Could things FINALLY be starting to make a little sense in this search??? I sure hope so...
I know I am here in Mobile, we have the Alabama-Mississippi HS allstar game here tommorow. They ask the recruits everyday in the paper about the coaching search its driving me crazy?
Who does Olive Tubbervile believe we should hire?
Monica and PDWT are right. I hate myself for caring enough to watch this so closely. I'm going to give myself 20 lashes for being such a mark.
Agreed Monica and Mclovin! The one good thing that came out of the internet attention for Gill is that a good man got some much deserved attention. I dont know how many people have told me that they had never heard of him until they saw it on my facebook page and read about him. Now they are fans of his. Let's hire who we're gonna hire and get on with the business of Auburn football.
Any work where JJ and crew are heading today
Breaking News**
Auburns coaching search has been in included in the new bailout plan.
Can we include the entire program in the bailout plan?
Get back off the firetrucks, put up the dalmation....false fire alarm, no muschamp. I can go back to my breakfast. I will check back later.
In other news...how about Auburn putting 3 Tigers on the SEC All-Freshman team? War Damn Pybus, Thorpe and Durst!
looks like Jay was right....AU knew who they wanted at the start....Cant wait to see how much they paid to get him out of Texas
Mclovin said....
"Let's give Texas a chance to see how it feels to take your coach." I think that mentality is the reason for all the Man-Crushes on Muschamp.
That's what I was thinking too, ddragon. Like the rest of you, I won't believe it until Auburn makes the offical announcement. If it is true, I must say I'm surprised. I thought there was a good reason he left and it wasn't because he loved Texas.
OK, WSFA still has Steve Spurrier coming. This Fox station has Muschamp coming. I just looked at the ESPN video and they say their source is the Fox station, so that means nothing.
I am now exhausted and going to take a nap. Someone call me when they make an announcement ;-)
I for one will be shocked if there is any kind of announcement today - especially one involving CWM.....
I'm ready for it to be over. Just make a decision and get on with it!
Dont call me an insider but I know that certain recruits have been contacted and they said will is the man.....If this is so and he is not AU has bigger problems
If we are interviewing Grobe and Chizik, then we probably won't be doing an announcement today.
