Mississippi State fills its vacancy

Kyle Veasey, a top blogger and an MSU beat hack, reports that Florida offensive coordinator Dan Mullen has been named the Bulldogs' new head coach.

I think this is a very sharp move by the Bulldogs. Mullen has been with Meyer for a long time, understands those schemes and that recruiting philosophy very well. MSU fans should be geeked about this.

Auburn fans? Keep waiting.

  1. Good hire. Knows how to run an offese and has ties to FL recruiting.

  2. Recruitng is the KEY to AU's hire.

Jay, what's you feel for the assistants who will be asked to return?

James Willis, E. Gran, T. Price?

Willis seems to have a shot. Coach Gran has done a great job not only coaching RBs but also recruitng So. Fla.

  3. I think Willis is a really important element. He'll have a good shot.

    Not sure about anyone else.

  5. cars won't sell at all. Sorry Chris. Just kidding. Kids are still turning 16, so there's still that.

  6. Great Hire, what has MSU lacked the past 5 years, an offense, that and a QB who is over 6 ft tall and weighed more than 160 lbs.

  7. Jay,

The All-SEc roster the other day spoke volumes about our season.

I think AJ Greene should have been freshman of the year, his stats doubled Julio's in every category. I guess the love fest was too much to overcome for AJ.

Auburn finished statistically last in almost every offense category.

  8. I also was watching 1986 cotton bowl and I have question. Why and when did players quit wearing elbow pads.

I posted this but new thread started so my first repost.

  9. Great move for Mullen and MSU. May hurt Auburn with a couple recruits.

This is a very exciting hire for MSU. I wonder how the team and the fans will adapt to that spread attack? It will be something to watch for certain.

  11. Some where ex MSU QB is happy throwing interceptions.

  12. Why was Mullen not even considered for the head coaching job? His offense has been much better than Jimbo's.

Something from yesterday's post about the Heisman Trophy.

If you believe the projection at Stiff Arm Trophy, Tim Tebow is going to get a ton of FIRST place votes but not enough 2nd and 3rd place to win.

    What?

  14. Someone please explain to me PMarsh's insistence that Muschamp isn't coming to AU. I know PMarsh has great sources, but I haven't heard a single denial from the Muschamp camp. Seems to me that he is still very much in the mix, but then again what do I know.
Also, Scottie B., sent my check on Monday. Sorry for the delay but real life has really gotten in the way. Thanks for your help.

  15. JJ better have a huge suprise for us at HC. Croom left them with alot of good players and MSU's recruiting class was shaping up to be one of their best IMO. I bet that 4* WR (Pat Patterson) that decommitted and was looking at us will be back with them.

MSU will need to address the QB issues as PatDyesWT already posted.

On the Heisman voting - why can't 1st place votes count 1 point
    2nd place votes count - .5
    3rd place votes count- .25
    ?

  18. It helps if you've coached a Heisman winner, you'd be surprised who would get in line to play for ya.

  19. Willis is perfectly performing the act of how to stay on an Auburn staff 101 taught by Joe Whitt.

I mean Whitt recruited for Auburn after Dye and Bowden and James Willis even actually looks like him.

  20. Joshua ... talked to a friend who talks frequently with PMarsh ... and I think the old boy is as confused as ever.

Here's the thing ... if they don't want him to know, then he ain't gonna know, until they want him to know. Right now, they don't want him to know.

It will be interesting to see who gets the scoop when it comes down ... money's on Goldberg because he can unnamed source it, and I think he's tight with the folks who know.

  21. As much as I like PMarsh's writing, he pretty much sticks to the company line. Whatever the athletic department releases he goes with, rarely have I seen him go outside of that.

  22. Not sure I understand all the Gran love ... remember, this is the guy who chose Tre Smith over Kenny Irons ... everyone over Mario Fannin and has been responsible for a crack special teams (or is it special teams on crack?) of recent years.

Please spare me the Ronnie, Rudi, Carnell business. I believe the Great Running Back Coach in the Sky had more to do with their development.

Sure he's a nice guy, but I'm not sure about the love.

  24. So Jet - are you saying you are taking all his praises with a "gran" of salt?

    oh yeah!

  25. PMARSH was Tub's mouthpiece for the last 10 years. This may signal a changing of the guard.

That said, maybe the HABOTN should break all the news now.

  26. Michael ... no a "gran-ular"

    High 5!

  27. Jet, I just conducted an Auburn Head Coaching Interview with Goofy. He said that he appreciated the chance to interview, but withdrew his name due to lack of job security if he were to take the position.

Well, I guess we will keep on looking.

Seriously though, if they have their guy already in place, which I believe they do, shouldn't they announce it before the week is out to allow the new coach to talk to recruits before the dead period.

    Talk at ya later.

  28. Eddie ... I also understand that Goofy has problems with that noted booster, Scrooge McDuck.

  29. Some basic looks at my interview with Hugh Nall are up. You'll enjoy it.

  30. Mr.S if we're not careful they will address their QB issue with our Raymond Cotton. I read that he is definately going to play in the SEC and his father plans on returning the family to MS in a few years.

  31. Jet, spot on re Gran. He gets/has gotten way too much credit. I chalk Carnell, Ronnie, Rudi up to the Good Lord as well.
I'm up for the HABOTN breaking all recent news. This is my only source for truthful info.
