More talk about "fits"
Hey everyone. Looks like Turner Gill got the memo about how "fit" is the most important thing at Auburn.
The Buffalo News has a story in today's editions about the contract extension Gill signed with U. Buffalo yesterday.
At the bottom is a quote about his dalliance with Auburn.
Best passage:
The Buffalo News has a story in today's editions about the contract extension Gill signed with U. Buffalo yesterday.
At the bottom is a quote about his dalliance with Auburn.
"Auburn gave me a great opportunity to interview for that job. Again, it wasn’t a [good] fit. And that’s OK. I’m happy to be here at the University at Buffalo, a great academic institution and now going to be a great football program, and a great athletic program, and obviously a great city to be in sports.”ZERO POINT ZERO: Sports Illustrated's Stewart Mandel, a distant HABOTN associate, writes today that Gene Chizik has a remarkably small chance to succeed at Auburn.
Best passage:
How could Jacobs and his cohorts possibly think the hiring of a 5-19 coach would be well received by their constituents? And how could they possibly expect Chizik to succeed under such divisive circumstances? How can there be such a vast disconnect between that school's powers-that-be and the people they (supposedly) serve?Photo credit: Buffalo News

Bin, but years ago PSU-Pitt was a good in-state rivalry.
Jet, You subiminal master you. Can you use those skills to get everyone on the CGC train?
I do like the fact that CGC seems to be working very hard. That's about all I can ask for right now. How's that for love?
I don't think he has a big head. Y'all just hatin like you do every time we say some man is handsome. pffft :-)
I have searched facebook for Eltoro Freeman to confirm his official status. I can't find him. I got some Elton Freemans and some Elmo Freemans, but no Eltoro. Maybe Auburn will set him up with facebook, so we can keep up with him.
Still nothing concrete on Eltoro Freeman - seems like FL is making a late push for him and he did contact Ole Miss.
Coach Dye should be fun to hear today. Must go fix a fresh cup of green tea and honey in preparation.
I think we get to discriminate against people named after bad-guys on GI Joe...after yesterday and all.
Hoopie ... the plan is less subtle. But I'm working on it.
so if i change my name to roadblock or snake-eyes i would bet booted?
He contacted Ole Miss? Is that normal?
If CGC goes out and signs some guy named Elton Freeman, while "The Bull" heads to OM or UF, I will be severely discouraged.
Hoopie ...
Step 1. An email a day from Pat Dye ...
Elmo Freeman would be even worse!
I bet elmo freeman would rather hug than tackle!
Harrison,
I don't think anyone will descriminate against the baddest man on the planet, Snake Eyes.
Also, you need to worry about Emo Freeman. He would just listen to sappy music about suicide and cry during the game.
The new Christmas toy that no kid wants ... the Tickle Me Eltoro.
You tickle Eltoro, and he forearm shivers you in the throat! And he laughs like a jackal the whole way.
I've my wild turkey ready to go waiting on CPD as we speak. This should be a hoot.
Harrison, had Elmo Freeman been blitzing JPW instead of Bynes, he would have at least hugged him until someone knocked him down, unlike Bynes who threw a shoulder in and just guessed JPW would fall down.
those are both awesome christmas toys! excellent work
Wild Turkey! That's what I should have in my green tea instead of honey.
I think that is a cop out by Joe pa personally. Pitt really gets up for the game and PSU seen it as nowhere to go from the game but down.
I'm not sure if it's normal Harrison, but reports from Ole Miss are that Freeman did contact them. I think the main reason he is looking around is because Willis is out.
Hey, don't knock on JB. He was afraid of getting a penalty.
Ya'll don't get to worked up over Eltoro one way or the other. Overrated period.
All he had to do was give him the Elmo hug and throw him to the ground.
this is the witty banter I enjoy on the HABOTN.
I really hope we keep Eltoro, and why do all our de-commits go to Ole Miss now?
ballin' we're all up in a storm up about this kid, let us have our fun! SCROOGE!
go ahead and kick us while we're down ballin'
People, a great philosopher once said "you drive us wild, we'll drive you crazy
You keep on shoutin', you keep on shoutin'".
Lets just move on to something more meaningful. So, which is better smooth or crunchy?
it kinda freaks me out how much Coach Dye sounds like my Daddy
It would stand to reason that Eltoro would be interested in Ole Miss.
"Eltoro, meet your new coach, El Loco."
Steve, I really don't care ... all I know is that choosy mothers choose Jif.
I'd prefer if our de-commits were going to Florida, USC, Texas or schools like that. At least then we know that we are going after the big time names, rather than kids who go to Ole Miss, Southern Miss, La Tech or some place like that when they decide not to come here.
Have we become Houston Nutt's beotch?
Steve, let's do a FOI on his cell phone and find out.
Harrison, I have been asking that same question, why do all of our de-commits end up at Ole Miss?
flaw-duh only has more wins than us since 81, impressive.
My answer for the past couple of years has been that we are recruiting at an Ole Miss like level. We aren't getting the top level HS guys on anywhere a near consistent basis.
Houston had some mojo workin gainst tubs, hopefully chizik can put the shutdown on him.
BinOBA,
Florida didn't become a national power until 1990. They didn't win their 1st legit SEC title until the Spurrier era.
They were decent in the late 80s, but before that they weren't anything prior to that.
The 2007 recruiting class may have been the best I have ever seen at Auburn, although we lost a lot of that class.
RK, I think Mean Gene might be able to snatch some of those kids. If gets the staff he says he'll get plus works as hard as hey says he will...I have no doubt.
Until Spurrier got to Florida they were called the "USC of the SEC: As obnoxious as Southern Cal, with the tradition of South Carolina."
By how many, BinOBA ... because I can think of 4 wins over them we left on the table that cause an 8 game swing?
82 -- hose job on the onside kick
86 -- choke job
85 -- last second TD
02 -- Duval misses FG
Of course, I guess you could argue the other way for some of our wins, but I won't because that doesn't suit my purpose.
A good football player does not = a good AD
oy vey
The good thing is, it seems that Chizik is going to work a lot harder in recruiting than Tub was doing the last couple of years.
Jet,
I think he meant overall record since 1981, not head to head.
What is Dye saying Monica?
Personally, I think Chizik has to be in panic mode in terms of recruiting. There is little time left before the dead period and we have lost a lot from what was a good recruiting class. Now it looks like we will be lucky if it is a top 20 class.
My comment was in reference to something Dye said before the break
RK,
I know, but give us 4 wins over them, and take away 4 from them is an 8 game swing.
I agree with you about Chiz's recruiting efforts ... that was my foundation for us needing a change at the top.
nobody's told me this and i don't meduhl
on Wednesday i called jay and he called me back
i'm not gonna make any recommendations
just take down information
this decision is gonna be more important to you
don't hire who i want you to hire
don't hire who lowder or ranes or mcwhoreter
nobody is more qualified than you to make the decision
you've grown up in auburn
walk on to a starter
he's perfectly capable of making the right decision
I remember gayland hall at UF, figured UT may be up there, just surprised me that Dye dropped that on Fbomb.
Any word on Willis???
my favorite so far is "I don't meddle" right into "I called Jay on Wed. night" LOL
bless his heart
Dye said it. I believe it. That settles it.
Anything else? No. Thanks for coming.
Oh god, lowder and many others wanted Nutt!?
He doesn't know what he's saying, does he, Monica?
He is fun to listen to...I need a fire going and my flannel pj's on.
I like what he said about Houston Nutt.
I may agree with him on the Sexton part.
Questioning Nutt's character....
But the BOT aren't supposed to be talking to anyone about the HC job, right?
Wonder what the view from under the bus is like for Jimmy Sexton.
Does "We" = Auburn University or the committee which I am part of.
I think Nutt is who many would have liked to see in terms of a 3 yards and a cloud of dust offense. Nutt was the thorn in Tuberville's side. I admire Nutt, although I do prefer a younger candidate.
He doesn't meddle, but he's been calling all these people...
Hence the reason why xCTT walked away with $5.1.
People couldn't call anyone, representing AU at all.
BinOBA, Sexton is too busy looking at his bank account to care whether he is under the bus or not.
Dye's wound up.
Finescum is a sissy.
There are 50 questions that could have been asked by Finebum if he wanted to really report anything.
And coward when asked about the Plantation Mentality.
Finebaum might as well not even be there. I think Dye could have a conversation in a room all by himself.
"Everything's fair in love and war" -- Pat Dye
Will someone please shut him up.
This would be known as giving him rope. He'll rip him for the rest of the show.
He probably shouldn't be on the show, but, as we know, hindsight is 50-50.
I don't think Finebaum would be welcome in the Auburn family
WOW!!
You are trying to say Patterson coach.
Dye calls Finebaum crazy!!! Chalk one up for Dye.
I'd love to have Finebaum for dinner.
Kurt Crain coach. Common.
Auburn PR Staff
Charles Barkley and Pat, I can't remember my Middle Linebacker's name, Dye.
That is a crack staff!!
until he had a few too many Wild Turkeys, Jet
Pat is an old man, he's not as sharp as he used to be. Still he's better than half the yo-yos that call in trying to give Paul a piece of their mind.
"name the trustee who has the plantation mentality"
best line so far by Dye
Of course, Fbaum wussed out.
I am beginning to get concerned about not hearing anything about staff hires. I didn't expect to hear a lot, but I expected something by now. Any coach that is a head coach or wanting to be a head coach keeps a list of people he would hire. I expected some of the hires to happen quickly.
Steve, I firmly expect to hear something about staff once the recruitng dead period starts. He needs kids to meet him and get excited more so than getting staff.
Dye denies calloway rumor
1st priority is seeing the kids...He has a strong group out there beating the bushes. It is no accident that recruiting fell off when Joe Whitt was "removed" from the staff.
The coaching staff will begin to take shape after Saturday.
Second best line "I know you talk about me when I am not here!" Cut to commercial.
Could we get coaches not represented by sexton? Dye cut off again, lol!
They couldn't even let him finish that time!
Is he getting cut off intentionally? I hear music building when he's on a roll so maybe he just outruns the lead out.
I LOVED the fact dye said folks shouldn't listen to the radio shows, couldn't make it up and make it work.
LOL @ "I know you talk about me when I get off the air" LMAO Love it.
Don't tell me Coach Dye doesn't know exactly what he's saying. The only thing he's guilty of is buying into his own legend and believing his own good press too much, but that happens to almost every person who is subject to hero worship.
That was a great shot from Dye about Finebaum talking about him after he's off the air. Wonder how Fine-bum will answer that when he gets back
I think they got a Sexton guy to keep everyone happy.
Someone sent out feelers on Tubs which was a no no. Sexton found out about it and to make amends. We pay Tubs for being bad and get a Sexton guy so he doesn't bash us anymore than we need to be.
That makes more sense than Racism.
Monica,
I just meant that he says one thing, and in the next sentence he says something that contradicts what he just said.
Now he's retracting what he said about Crain calling him. Did I hear that right?
He wrote the letter - are you kidding me?
Haha, hell no I wrote it.
Well, no dangling participles and and sentence fragments!!!!
Good article on PJG on his role in the hire. After reading it I feel more confident that although JJ is not a stellar AD he may not be full lies. He 100% believe he was shocked that Tubs resigned. He and whomever else you want to put in there with him was caught totally flat footed. That is why we did not have the "big name" hiding behind the curtain. This was a close to a true search as you are going to find. The "big names" did not see it coming and therefore they were not able to float their names out there.
No way he wrote that. He is NOT that eloquent.
Luv-
I'm sure he thought it, even if he didn't write it ;0)
Coach, I think about Auburn when I'm drivin' in my truck, too.
If you don't have a scholarship for me, Coach, I walkin' on.
Now, let's see if we can win.
He can't even think that eloquently, TarHeel! LOL
Inviting F'baum to "The Plantation" = priceless
The Internet is behind, Just Win...I just heard that invite!
Coming to major bookstores near you ...
"From Toomer's Corner to Eternity: The Love Sonnets of Patrick Fain Dye."
Guess we'll see just how much Fine-bum will talk about him in just a few.
I love Pat Dye. The old warrior comes back for one more round.
People will be standing in line for that one, Jet!
Jet, I have already pre-ordered my copy. Think I can get Dye to autograph it?
A Dye-ku for the Hotties:
Grizzled old coach wages
War against smarmy Finebaum
Hotties rejoice. Cough.
I missed what Dye said about Saban...
What did Dye say about Saban?
I'm so glad the hotties seem to be in better spirits these days!!
What did he say about Saban?
Dye talked about how Bama should be embarrassed about losing to Louisiana Monroe.
I keep hearing that Au doesn't haveany talent. Scout rated us #6 and #9 in the 2006 and 2007 recruiting classes. Those classes should be anywhere from RSSo to Jr this coming season. Is Scout that bad at grading recruiting classes? Do we really have talent and the fans don't know it? xCTT was supposedly one of the best at developing talent. I guess that didn't happen? If it didn't happen...can it now happen?
I think that we have defensive talent. The D was injured and on the field too much. The offense....it is really hard to tell...did the confusion this year hide/hinder a lot of talent? or were we so devoid of talent, we couldn't do produce? I think we didn't produce on the line and at Rb. Think we are missing talent at WR and QB.
That AU '72 alum had the Bear's cheatin' ways nailed and ol' Pf didn't want to discuss it....."next caller".
Hoopie, F'baum just did not want the '72 Alum being disrespectful to the Bahr.
Jay,
Any legs to the rumors about Garner comming in as DC? What about Greg Davis from UT as OC...seems like a perfect fit.
