All we have are the embers
We held 110-minute campfire earlier today.
If you weren't there, you missed quite a show.
We discussed Jeff Lebo, Raymond Cotton Sr. and his son, a player named Rueben, a coach named Tracy Rocker, flaws with Einstein's Theory of Relativity and reasoning behind Luxembourg's striking pacifism during World War II.
A good time was had by all.

What about Jenna Fisher's get-up for the GGs? I know you noticed.
b4 bailing, must relate bruce story. I've seen him many times, but missed my first opportunity when he came to AU in 1975. I had failed the first chemistry test of my college career and the 2nd was the day after the Bruce concert. I stayed home to study, made an A on that test and final course grade of B. I should have withdrawn from the class and gone to see Bruce. I've regretted not going to the concert ever since. Bruce rocked all 1500 people in BEMC for almost 3 hours. John Denver drew a much bigger crowd. That's messed up.
Where might one find a photo of this Kate Winslet dress (preferably with Winslet in it) that Jay tries to mention every day!
Jenna did look nice
D Miller, I didn't watch, so I'm not sure if this is it or not:

Selma Hayek....
here
Kate Winslet at Golden Globes
Dear Leader ...
I saw the stunt you pulled by commenting on the campfire thread.
Post padding is not classy.
i have no class, so i may have unwittingly previously post padded in past. what the heck is that?
She's a definite looker J-G... very classy get up.
Ah man, I missed it, and I wanted to know about Luxemburg. Crap, I am still working.
luxemburg, it ain't called the "low country" for nothin'
cool... Alli Smalley is having her jersey retired at Arab Friday night...
That was fast! She's a college sophomore.
I got on today but I am in sales and as soon as I got on someone pulled up hate I missed it.
Jay G. thank for all you do
Can I get a little Hottie hate over the recent media attacks on AU during this prime time recruiting period?
First the Ramsey story - was there something new that we didnt know like 3 months ago? Why the story now?
Then Randle-gate. Is he visiting or did AU make it up? And finally the Moseley mystery - did AU offer another QB (Cooper) while Mr. Alabama is being strung along and losing sholly offers? Sheesh!
Big Cat, I think this happens every year at this time. It's like those media guys are trying to stay in Saban's good graces. They know who butters their bread.
when did Kate Winslet get kind of hot anyway? I must have missed that
I wish I had more closely monitored the ramsey thing. That was a good story. There is no agenda behind it.
Thanks for the love, bigdaddy.
An 18-year-old Auburn University student injured during a fight in the parking lot of a fraternity house remained in intensive care in Columbus, Ga., officials said Tuesday.
Auburn police and university officials have not released the student's name, but friends say Taylor Jones of Montgomery was injured in the fight between 1 and 2:30 a.m. Sunday.
Police Capt. Tom Stofer said the victim was involved in a fight at the Sigma Phi Epsilon house and no weapon other than fists was used. ones led the protest in support of head football coach Tommy Tuberville in December after the university announced that he had resigned.
Kate winslet kinda comes and goes. She's generally not remarkable, but she'll hotten up occasionally.
Jay, there is probably more than can be done with the Ramsey story, such as the disagreement between the team physician and the trainer, although you might just get a we can't talk about that.
kind of like oprah's weight
AUBigCat-
You can get some Hottie hate from me for the Auburn bashing during recruiting, especially by Stephen A. Smith. He was so far off base it's not funny.
"But there's no way Chizik should have gotten the Auburn job over Gill. " Well, as huge a fan of Gill as I was/am, and as profoundly disappointed I was when Chizik was chosen over Gill, I can now easily understand why Chizik should have been chosen. Gill's record of 7-17 in his first 2 years at UB is not statistically better than Chizik's poor 2 yr record at ISU. Chizik has been in Auburn before. Chizik has coached at other schools in the south before. As a result, Chizik has a big head start on Gill in recruiting. I don't know if Chizik will be a better coach at AU than Gill would have been, but the reasons Chizik was hired are obvious.
What isn't obvious is why didn't Stephen A Smith bash Syracuse for not hiring Gill? Gill has recruited the Northeast for the past 3 years. Gill has an established record as a head coach. So what does 'cuse do? Hire someone with NO head coaching experience. Smith would have had a much better basis for his argument if he had used Syracuse in his story rather than inappropriately bashing Auburn. I have no idea who SASmith is, but I can promise I won't ever read any more of his garbage.
There, is that enough Hottie hatin?
I think we can all see why Chizik was hired now. It just took a bit of time. We are seeing parts of the plan that Jacobs and Chizik mentioned discussing in the interview. The fact is, nobody had the facts to make the idiotic determination that Stephen Ahole Smith made.
Buehler? Anyone?
Has anyone else heard that a current QB will be leaving the team? If so who would it be?
RPC-
i haven't heard that.
if there's any truth to it, my 1st guess would be chris todd
My first guess would be Caudle.
Leaving in what capacity? Quitting or transfering?
or Trotter or is he the "future"?
Good evening Jay GT! Sorry I missed the campfire. Not only was I overwhelmed at work, but I didn't have a clue what my chatroll login was until I got home. I went by anyway and warmed up to the glow of the embers.
HABOTN is the BEST!
My first thought was Caudle, except I figured that he would have left last year when DA CTF did not give him a chance
I don't know Neil Caudle. I do know he has 2 reconstructed knees which makes me wonder why he's out there at all. There's more to life than football.
Though there may not be more to life than HABOTN ;-)
actually, I THINK Caudle has 2 reconstructed knees.
why not Brent Poole?
one thing's for sure, i won't be exercising my 4 remaining years of eligibity as au's qb. do they have a senior league/
I don't think it is Todd, since I know he is in class at AU this semester, unless he is staying in school, but giving up football.
Will we ever have a campfire that is not during working hours? This dude with the curly hair on AI is crazy!
brent Poole hahahahahaha
have we discussed what a "grayshirt" is?
Jay my only concern was why wait til now to write the story on Ramsey? Was there something new we didnt know earlier this year?
i think so.
there's plenty of recruiting news and coaching hires going on now. the Ramsey story could have waited until late Feb when we're grasping for any football related stories we can get.
monica it mentions bryce brown on rivals, it says is he visiting or not.... You gotta scoop?
THT that's a whole lotta hatin' buddy! I'm glad you can see the obviousness of the hiring cause it's still fuzzy for me.
I've heard the 2-year comparison b/n Gill and Chiz. It's pretty funny. Gill's record didnt warrant a HC job after 2-years (see Neb)...neither did Chiz's record.
Southern experience = big advantage in recruiting...weak but ok. But if this is the standard, I'm sure I can name several coaches that make better sense including Charlie Strong with he now 2 NCs.
Syracuse not getting attacked now that is obvious to me. They're not in the south and their history of inclusion in college football is better (see Jim Brown, ernie davis etc)
SAS talks too loud for me. I'm not a fan of his or his work. Let's hope Chiz proves him and all of the detractors wrong.
The difference, BigCat, is that Key Ramsey decided to go public now.
AU1in04 - just so you know someones watching, Salma Hayak - WOW!
Oh ok Jay gotcha.
Sorry I have been missing all the fun lately. Phred is a busy boy these days. March on Hotties!
jhag - RE: Bryce Brown
I just see that he's considering an official visit and his last trip is between Auburn, TN and USC.
AUBigCat-
now stop it before you make me change my mind ;-)
The difference for me Jay, and a question for you is why did Key wait until now to go public? That staff is gone...why not do it while they were still there? If Evan's story is all true, doing so apparently wasn't going to hurt Chaz's playing chances.
wow USC...were screwed
thanks a lot though miss monica
you're welcome
Kathy,
Am I missing something? Is that a true story?
PLAYER COMPARISON: He reminds me of Ronnie Brown, the current Miami Dolphins and former Auburn Tigers star.
Rivals opinion on Bryce Brown
Did you guys see this fella from KY? He hung 54 points on Tenn. WOW!
Who names their male child Jodie?
test test, im in yo!
Someone that wants their child to be tough?
avatars are important
PeterF-
I'll take Jodie over Shirley any day, especially if my middle name was Schaub. I guess that's why they called him "Red" Wilson.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shirley_Wilson
mdaniel, yes, sadly, a true story.
Off to work Hotties. Have a great day. I'll be lurking, so keep us informed of any latest and greatest info. Until tonight, War Eagle!!!
Good morning Kathy and all the other Hotties!
WARRRRRRRRRRRRRR EAGLE!!!
Biscuit- You asked what a grayshirt was, and it is when you offer a high school kid to come and play for you and pay tuition the first semester and then try to saddle them up with a scholarship after the first semester as to not effect your scholarship signing numbers of 25 scholies per year to incoming freshman. The scholarship is found in the difference of the 85 allotted per year minus the incoming 25 for the signing class. Not sure if that helps, but I gave it a shot.
Good Morning, Hotties!
Jay G Tate, what is post padding?
I wore a gray shirt to the gym today ... now, it's sweaty!!!
Beat Gators!
Jet- Great minds think alike. I too wore a gray shirt to the gym this morning.
Also, Beat the Gators!
Good Morning Hot Ones! It's a brisk 27 degrees on this beautiful day on the Plains.
Eddie and Jet are you guys just morning people of whatt? I am struggling to find the motivation to get up early enough to work out. Whats the secret?
Has anyone seen FL play this year? Do you think AU can beat them?
AUBigCat, I'm with you. Even if I didn't have to be at work at 5 a.m., I couldn't make it to the gym that early.
Congrats on the new job steve ensminger.
Alan, did he go back to high school?
I just Googled him. I was right!
AUBigcat- I'm a morning person in general, but not typically a get up at 4:15AM type person. I have been adjusting to that, but as you may have noticed, I no longer post here at night time. Bedtime comes for me around 10PM EST. But working in Atlanta and having a 1 hour commute each way along with 2 small children mandate that this is the best time to workout.
Big Cat ... I've been on the work out at 5 a.m. program for a year ... and it just works for me ... I'm really not a morning guy, but with my schedule, it's the only time I can consistently get to the gym.
He is now qb coach under former tiger mark rose at smiths station.
Ensminger says a lot about the Tuberville reign. Hired a HS coach and the guy returns to HS after his stint at Auburn. I really like the makeup of the new staff, especially when compared to the old staff.
Morning HOTTIES!!!!
Whats up Jay G. your Cats open a Can on the Vols last night!!!!
One assistant goes back to HS, another goes into the trucking business. It does say alot about the old staff.
It's a beautiful Sunny and warm 29 here in Mobile!!!
Eddie - I wanted to recommend going to The Bavarian Inn in Shepherdstown if you like authentic German food. Have dinner in the Rathskeller pub at the Inn. It's a pub with dark paneled walls and they'll have a roaring fire. The couple who own the Inn moved to Shepherdstown from Germany and last time I was there it was great food, wine and beer.
If you have time and if you're into Civil War history you're a couple of miles from Antietam Battlefield and Harpers Ferry.
Mon- Can you get a liter of beer there?
morning hotties! sorry i missed the campfire yesterday. my furnace was in need of attention.
what about Jodi Meeks last nite? wow. a buddy was at the UK-UT game last nite and said it was pretty disappointing. ha. Go CATS!
Eddie, I agree with you 100%
Speaking of where are they now, I just got curious to see where Bowden's 98 staff currently is:
Rick Trickett (my coach while there)- FSU OL Line Coach
Jimbo Fisher- FSU HC in Waiting/ OC
Rodney Allison- Just fired as UT-Chattanooga's HC.
Pete Jenkins- Philadelphia Eagles DL Coach
Joe Kines- (Biggest joke of a coach I have ever seen, married a Bowden so you can figure out the hiring reason) Out of coaching now that Tommy Bowden got fired / resigned.
Joe Whitt- Retired
Bill Oliver- Retired
I'm missing 2 of them, the names have escaped me. The TE's coach and the WR's coach.
mon - Just because I am a Civil War buff....they just found remains of a Union Soldier at Antietam recently.
Back to your regularly scheduled program.
It makes me even more optimistic!
Monica- Thanks for the recomendations. I may just have to stop by tomorrow night and check it out. I'm dreading the drive, but hoping to see some snow.
My idea of a workout is scooping out my own bowl of ice cream in the evening rather than asking Mrs THT to do it for me. Exercise sucks. Playing football or roller hockey, now that is fun.
Eddie - When are you supposed to go back?
AU1N04- I drive up tomorrow for a Friday Morning presentation then head back right after that.
Ooof..I was going ot say if you were in town longer you may just want to check weather. Snow is around and coming supposedly.
Enjoy your ride....and bring plenty to listen to. : )
Will do AU1N04. Thanks and thank god for satelite radio.
The best ever that satellite radio when travelling.
Ok off to the office.
Satellite radio = makes my life better.
I don't have to listen to Maroon 5 over and over and over and over like on terrestrial radio.
Yay.
Mac - lol yes you can!
I do audio books for those super long drives.
AU1 - very cool Antietam news.
Eddie - Depending on what route you're taking you could see some snowy at best and icy at worst driving.
Ugh...Maroon 5.
It's Sharpsburg to us.
My daughter spent one year in school in PA. History teacher asked about other names for the "Civil War", expecting to get "War Between the States". He didn't like my daughter's answer "The War of Northern Aggression."
BTW, if it had been a civil war, Jeff Davis would have been trying to seize control of the federal gov't. He had no desire for that at all.
The Civil War was good thing because it was the beginning of the end of slavery...
Luv-
1. It was not a civil war.
2. War is not a "good thing."
England, France, and a host of other countries ended slavery without a war. We should have done likewise.
Conversely, should we go start wars in all the Asian and African countries where slavery is still practiced?
