All we have are the embers

We held 110-minute campfire earlier today.

If you weren't there, you missed quite a show.

We discussed Jeff Lebo, Raymond Cotton Sr. and his son, a player named Rueben, a coach named Tracy Rocker, flaws with Einstein's Theory of Relativity and reasoning behind Luxembourg's striking pacifism during World War II.

A good time was had by all.

b4 bailing, must relate bruce story. I've seen him many times, but missed my first opportunity when he came to AU in 1975. I had failed the first chemistry test of my college career and the 2nd was the day after the Bruce concert. I stayed home to study, made an A on that test and final course grade of B. I should have withdrawn from the class and gone to see Bruce. I've regretted not going to the concert ever since. Bruce rocked all 1500 people in BEMC for almost 3 hours. John Denver drew a much bigger crowd. That's messed up.

Can I get a little Hottie hate over the recent media attacks on AU during this prime time recruiting period?

First the Ramsey story - was there something new that we didnt know like 3 months ago? Why the story now?

Then Randle-gate. Is he visiting or did AU make it up? And finally the Moseley mystery - did AU offer another QB (Cooper) while Mr. Alabama is being strung along and losing sholly offers? Sheesh!

An 18-year-old Auburn University student injured during a fight in the parking lot of a fraternity house remained in intensive care in Columbus, Ga., officials said Tuesday.

Auburn police and university officials have not released the student's name, but friends say Taylor Jones of Montgomery was injured in the fight between 1 and 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

Police Capt. Tom Stofer said the victim was involved in a fight at the Sigma Phi Epsilon house and no weapon other than fists was used. ones led the protest in support of head football coach Tommy Tuberville in December after the university announced that he had resigned.

AUBigCat-
You can get some Hottie hate from me for the Auburn bashing during recruiting, especially by Stephen A. Smith. He was so far off base it's not funny.
"But there's no way Chizik should have gotten the Auburn job over Gill. " Well, as huge a fan of Gill as I was/am, and as profoundly disappointed I was when Chizik was chosen over Gill, I can now easily understand why Chizik should have been chosen. Gill's record of 7-17 in his first 2 years at UB is not statistically better than Chizik's poor 2 yr record at ISU. Chizik has been in Auburn before. Chizik has coached at other schools in the south before. As a result, Chizik has a big head start on Gill in recruiting. I don't know if Chizik will be a better coach at AU than Gill would have been, but the reasons Chizik was hired are obvious.
What isn't obvious is why didn't Stephen A Smith bash Syracuse for not hiring Gill? Gill has recruited the Northeast for the past 3 years. Gill has an established record as a head coach. So what does 'cuse do? Hire someone with NO head coaching experience. Smith would have had a much better basis for his argument if he had used Syracuse in his story rather than inappropriately bashing Auburn. I have no idea who SASmith is, but I can promise I won't ever read any more of his garbage.

There, is that enough Hottie hatin?

6:50 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

I think we can all see why Chizik was hired now. It just took a bit of time. We are seeing parts of the plan that Jacobs and Chizik mentioned discussing in the interview. The fact is, nobody had the facts to make the idiotic determination that Stephen Ahole Smith made.

8:34 PM
Blogger AUBigCat said...

THT that's a whole lotta hatin' buddy! I'm glad you can see the obviousness of the hiring cause it's still fuzzy for me.

I've heard the 2-year comparison b/n Gill and Chiz. It's pretty funny. Gill's record didnt warrant a HC job after 2-years (see Neb)...neither did Chiz's record.

Southern experience = big advantage in recruiting...weak but ok. But if this is the standard, I'm sure I can name several coaches that make better sense including Charlie Strong with he now 2 NCs.

Syracuse not getting attacked now that is obvious to me. They're not in the south and their history of inclusion in college football is better (see Jim Brown, ernie davis etc)

SAS talks too loud for me. I'm not a fan of his or his work. Let's hope Chiz proves him and all of the detractors wrong.

Biscuit- You asked what a grayshirt was, and it is when you offer a high school kid to come and play for you and pay tuition the first semester and then try to saddle them up with a scholarship after the first semester as to not effect your scholarship signing numbers of 25 scholies per year to incoming freshman. The scholarship is found in the difference of the 85 allotted per year minus the incoming 25 for the signing class. Not sure if that helps, but I gave it a shot.

It's a pub with dark paneled walls and they'll have a roaring fire. The couple who own the Inn moved to Shepherdstown from Germany and last time I was there it was great food, wine and beer.

If you have time and if you're into Civil War history you're a couple of miles from Antietam Battlefield and Harpers Ferry.

Jimbo Fisher- FSU HC in Waiting/ OC
Rodney Allison- Just fired as UT-Chattanooga's HC.
Pete Jenkins- Philadelphia Eagles DL Coach
Joe Kines- (Biggest joke of a coach I have ever seen, married a Bowden so you can figure out the hiring reason) Out of coaching now that Tommy Bowden got fired / resigned.

1. It was not a civil war.
2. War is not a "good thing."

England, France, and a host of other countries ended slavery without a war. We should have done likewise.

Conversely, should we go start wars in all the Asian and African countries where slavery is still practiced?
