Happy New Year from the HABOTN

Hey everyone. Welcome to 2009!

I plan to share our silly-crazy December numbers with you all in a bit. We broke every record available in terms of traffic. I never thought we would gauge pageviews by the 100,000s, but that's where we are.

Lots of football on the tube today. What are you watching?

574 comments:

  1. USC looks awful against Iowa. Waiting for the Georgia game. I'm watching football all day! Keep safe Jay. Can't imagine anything more dangerous than New Orleans and an invasion of Bama fans!

    ReplyDelete
  2. I am not a fan of players on same team with same #.

    ReplyDelete
  3. I hear rumors that Coach Knox is going to Southern Miss.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Anonymous10:45 AM

Currently watching what has to be the worst offensive team Steve Spurrier has ever put on the field.

    ReplyDelete
  5. 3rd turnover of the game

    ReplyDelete
  6. I just had a fellow hack mention the Knox/USM thing.

Glad to see he landed on his feet.

    ReplyDelete
  7. still watching Leave it to Beaver and Monk; SCarolina to disappointing to watch. I sure hope GA can make the SEC look good.

    ReplyDelete
  8. this is embarrassing. I hate losing to big 10. plus no more leave it to beaver. I think I'll double up on the cough syrup and go to sleep

    ReplyDelete
  9. Happy 2009 Hotties! I just woke up :-/ Time for some breakfast and football!

    ReplyDelete
  10. I am off to the gym. Stick a fork in South Carolina. They are done.

Georgia will get the SEC back on track later today.

    ReplyDelete
  11. This game is pitiful. Do you think Spurrier will change QBs?

    ReplyDelete
  12. yes he will. More than once?

    ReplyDelete
  13. live video feed of Bowden on waff.com

    ReplyDelete
  14. Has anyone heard anything about Ellis Johnson being our next DC?? He was at MSU, Alabama and is currently part of this SC beating.

    ReplyDelete
  15. watching this game is pure torture

    ReplyDelete
  16. Is Knox getting a grad assistant deal at USM?

    ReplyDelete
  17. I just found Paula Deen. Yea!!! So much better than outback bowl.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Ellis Johnson at least has nothing to do with the 3 interceptions and one fumble by SC's QB.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Spurrier sucks now!

The FBS offense ranks ... mostly in the 70s during his days in Columbia. I had no idea they were so ordinary.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Anonymous11:23 AM

I'm not surprised that SC hasn't pulled the rug on SS yet because they are not ready to take the steps to the next level.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I never knew "ham" had two syllables. Gotta love Paula Deen :-)

I'm getting hungry. That must mean I'm also getting well. Yippee!

    ReplyDelete
  22. The SEC is pretty overmatched in all of its games... I am (happy) surprised that LSU beat GT....

Never thought USC could match up with iowa, reminds me of the Beating AU took against Penn State in the mid 90's.

    I hope Georgia shows up.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I've been conned into seeing a movie right now.

I'll return with the HABOTN monthly numbers after the film. We're seeing "Doubt."

    Hint: Pageviews over 200,000!

    ReplyDelete
  24. If USC cannot Recruit with SS I am not sure anyone can help them..

    ReplyDelete
  25. Anonymous11:28 AM

Dear Leader, that's because SS doesn't do "active" recruiting. At Florida, he let the school/town recruit itself. Columbia is a different story.

It's like what Colin Cowherd says: Sometimes the problem isn't the coach, it's the powers above the coach. You have to change both to move forward sometimes.

    ReplyDelete
  26. No one has ever won at SC and it's likely no one ever will. The loyalty of their fans is remarkable.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Anonymous11:32 AM

That loyalty is something to behold. That's why there is no pressure to win. The fans are there one way or another.

    ReplyDelete
  28. jay

i want one of those hoodies!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Yes, BigCat, I heard 3 days ago that Elliz was the choice ... wasn't sure what to make of it.

Now, I'm thinking it's the deal.

Just hope we can get Rodney, too. Not sure if that's doable ... my guess he wants to be a coordinator.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Happy New Year!! sorry i havent been around, i was in the hell hole of Gainesville for a basketball tourney...
SS recruiting wise USC is ranked top 10 this year and a few years ago i believe

    ReplyDelete
  31. Jet, what happened to Garner? I thought you had him convinced.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Anonymous11:39 AM

SC is stuck with Spurrier. Where do you go when neither Holtz or Spurrier can get you to the next level. If they can't turn it around with the big names, then what? Spurrier has gotten some decent recruiting teams (on paper). I don't know what goes on at their campus, but regardless of the coach, USC always seems to be inconsistent and lacking focus.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Happy New Year all. Jet, you really think Johnson is the guy? Where did he graduate college? Might be a good choice since he should be very familiar w/ recruiting the whole southeast. I think he's a pretty good coordinator, but not great.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I'm still working on Rodney ... until Chiz names someone else ... I don't care if Rodney is the DC, Rec. Coord. or WR coach ... I want him on the staff.

Elliz is an old hand ... spent time at UAT, State, Clemson and So. Carolina. Was head coach at Citadel, think he went there.

He's got 7 years in the Alabama retirement system, so I think he's motivated to get back here to get his 10 ... clearly defense has been solid where he's coached.

I'm wondering if this means Rodney's not coming, but Tracy Rocker is.

If I had to guess, that would be the guess.

    ReplyDelete
  35. actually SS has gotten SC to the next level; an all-time winning record.... briefly during the 07 and 08 seasons. They are .500 right now all-time after losing the last two games of this season. Not sure when, if ever, SC had an all-time record above .500.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Do we really want to give a guy his first shot at being DC. (garner) Maybe a co-coordinator would be the best thing to do in that situation. Maybe we could find an older coach to help him at coordinating a defense.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Jet. Yes, solid defenses, but not dominant. Maybe the one two punch of Johnson and Chizik would be the hammer. I keep hearing Rocker. Just have not heard anything that would lead me to believe Garner is coming. I sure don't want Garner as DC. Doesn't have experience as a DC and I've heard he isn't a really good x's and O's kind of guy. Wouldn't mind having on the staff though.

    ReplyDelete
  38. my perfect world would be Rodney as AHC/RC and a solid DC, which Elliz Johnson certainly is ... so it's a matter of whether we can make Rodney an offer he can't refuse to make the lateral move to come home.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Unrelated, but did you guys hear that Spurrier was in Auburn the week before Chizik was hired. Played golf and I know someone that saw him come out of the Athletic dept. More and more I'm glad he wasn't hired. He's really lost his touch on offense. Of course, as we speak, SC just gave up the ball for the 5th time. Nobody wins w/ 5 to's.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Anonymous11:58 AM

    Fumbull......USC = no focus

    ReplyDelete
  41. hallelujah! 1 EST has finally arrived. Go Dawgs!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Anonymous12:00 PM

CSS is 60+ years old with a sandbagged 8 handicap......that is too much time on the links to be a successful CFBHC.

    ReplyDelete
  43. We will see this staff come together quickly after the end of the bowl games.

What are the odds of Kevin Steel leaving bama to go to Clemson? I think that would be a blow to the Saban nation. It would bring back up the trouble Saban has keeping coaches.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Anonymous12:04 PM

Dang....I just realized that the Cap 1 bowl is on ABC. ABC and ESPN have spent so much time advertising the Rose Bowl, that I assumed he Cap 1 was on another network. In fact.....they are talking about the Rose Bowl....NOW. Shut up Flutie, you are a football nerd.

    ReplyDelete
  45. 44, my thought has always been that Chizik could take Garner under his wing on the defense. Chizik is one of the best DC's around and RG knows football period. They should be able to make it work. If jet is correct and E Johnson is the choice, I have serious doubts that Garner will return in a lateral move from UGA. If AU ends up with neither Searels or Garner, I will be bitterly disappointed. Garner is a must-have to compete with Saban. Look at what UT is paying the big-O. A top-flight recruiter is worth the investment. Hope that AU can make it work. Much rather have Garner than Johnson.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Happy New Year and War Eagle! Wow..if you don't get on every few hours then the news is old! What did we do before HABOTN? Can't wait to see what the new year brings! Wish I was in New Orleans, too.....

    ReplyDelete
  47. Another unrelated comment. I've noticed how much bigger the skill players on Georgia, LSU, and others are than those on Auburns team? I know AU went small and fast, but those guys on the other teams don't lack speed.

    ReplyDelete
  48. the camera work for the Cap 1 bowl is terrible

    ReplyDelete
  49. What is up with the SEC and turnovers today?

    ReplyDelete
  50. Who coaches Georgia's defensive line?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Kathy,
I was thinking the same thing.
Georgia's Defense is pi$$ed off now!

    ReplyDelete
  52. We need Garner!!!

    ReplyDelete
  53. yeah Kathy, I think it's some fellow named Garner.

off topic- I really like the Blackhawks unis today (on NBC)... and still got a whole lot of hate for the red wings.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I know Richt said he hadn't heard from Auburn about talking to Garner, but I thought they had gotten permission to talk to him when they interviewed him. Wouldn't think they would have to ask again!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Spartans going left on my tv- how bout them silver britches. Go Dawgs. Big 3rd down play..... crap. still short

    ReplyDelete
  56. I can kick it that ugly.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Wide Left.....
    waaaaaaa what was that?

    ReplyDelete
  58. I'm fine with RG on staff just not as DC. I'd prefer a more established coach. Chiz is a great DC but he was also under some great HCs. I dont think he has time to mentor an inexperienced DC and be HC of a program the size of AU. We need to put him in the best position to succeed.

    ReplyDelete
  59. What gives with the SEC and turnovers today??? Too much eggnog last nite or what?

    ReplyDelete
  60. The announcer just said "Georgia keeps pulling a Plexico, they keep shooting themselves" LMAO!!!

    ReplyDelete
  61. AUBigCat, I think the thing to help Chizik the most is more talent on the roster. No matter the coach, AU cannot continue to be dominated in in-state recruiting. Garner has some risk for sure as a DC, but I think it is a risk worth taking. He is the game-changer AU needs recruiting against the evil empire.

    ReplyDelete
  62. still poor camera work

    ReplyDelete
  63. I'm thinking the camera crew at the Cap One Bowl didn't make the Krystal stop last night, and they're struggling.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Depressed I am one of those people who believe that we have alot of talent on the roster especially on defense. I dont think we've had the coaching to maximize it at some positions, mostly on offense. Malzahn should significantly improve that.

    ReplyDelete
  65. happy new year hotties

    ReplyDelete
  66. My thoughts are that we are badly deficient at safety ... and need some major help at LB ... up front we're a little better off and can always use an extra CB.

OL ... need more ... need more ... WRs ... I guess we'll find out, I just believe we've got several ... just haven't been coached ... WE should be fine at RB. QB remains to be seen.

    ReplyDelete
  67. jet- those thoughts are about what I see also. The talent is good in some areas, weak in others but overall just OK. Better than 5 wins for sure, but nowhere near the top teams in the conference. We are in dire need of a talent infusion and RG can deliver it. I happen to think he can also be a very good DC.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Jet, Some good Qb play will do wonders for receivers and overall offense.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Apparently CTT was on Georgia Radio Tailgate show and said he will take a year off and go back into coaching. He is just like an old car, sometimes things need a tune up. He said that he was going to take this year and possibly next (unless an interesting job becomes available) to tune up his coaching skills. He said the one thing he misses most about Auburn is the players.

    ReplyDelete
  70. On a safety note, I hate to single players out, but was Michael McNeil overrated coming out of high school, or has the scheme just not fit him well?

    ReplyDelete
  71. Jet...good assessment of our talent and gaps.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Depressed...I'm just as puzzled about McNeil. Maybe Chiz can light a fire under him and help him get to some of that potential.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Anonymous2:04 PM

    Kathy or any others,

Are there any details about Bowden's pay and length of contract at tUNA?

    I'm curious...

    ReplyDelete
  74. Bowden doesn't have a contract yet. He signed a letter of agreement. I didn't hear anything about salary, but he expects a 3-year contract. All coaches that are there now will stay in place. That was a condition from the administration. He made a few comments about Auburn and the shape of the program when he got there and how he thought he did a good job there.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Anonymous2:10 PM

    Thanks, Kathy.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Anonymous2:11 PM

I think our WRs are the single greatest performance problem. terrible fundamentals, can't get eperation and don't come back to the ball. In other words...they don't do anytihing good, except block.

On paper, we have better talent than the performances see on the field. The coaching was poor, was the WR recruiting equally poor. I think the performance of our other offensive positions would be better if the opposing D's weren't able to crowd the line.

    Outnumbered is outmaned.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Bowden's problems on the Plains had more to do with coeds than coaching. Good luck UNA.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Happy New Year, Hotties!

D.Miller - Maybe Kristi will see the HABOTN stuff on my Facebook and wonder over. If I were a coaches wife I wouldn't read blogs and such.

Aubie - Who is that in your avatar?

TB - Malzahn offered Glaser to come to Auburn. Glaser said he was going to stick with Missouri. If Glaser had accepted it would have counted as a 2008 recruit and not against our 2009 recruiting. He graduated early and is starting college this month.

Jet said, "I want Rodney ... in any capacity." hmmm...easy trigger

Tar - I've been cleaning and watching Monk today too while Greg gave me football updates. I love Monk!

    ReplyDelete
  79. Zhoopie, following your thought, does anyone stretch the field less than AU? I am by no means suggesting we would complete many of them, but the other team had NO fear of getting beat on the deep ball playing AU. I hope Malzahn corrects this issue above all others.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Anonymous2:22 PM

I like that Malzahn wants to pass vertical. Putting this into practice is going to be a lot tuffer just saying it. Contrary to most AU fan's beliefs, we tried to go vertical 4-8 times each game this past season and the WRs were so well covered, that deep passes weren't even thrown.

I guess we'll know this time next year if was coaching or talent.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Monica ...

At least I didn't say "position."

    ReplyDelete
  82. WR-Good but not great. Badly need some coaching and a cohesive offensive plan.
OL-Again, a good QB and offensive plan and these guys will be one of the better lines in the league
QB-Definitely need help here. Hope Trotter is up to the task. One of the most poorly coached positions on our team.
RB-Servicable. No big time threat to go the distance. Fannin should be good, but again, not great.
Offensive talent just average at best compared to SEC. No game breakers in the group. No big time players.

DL-Good, but not great. Good enough to win plenty of games
DE-Same as DL, especially if Coleman goes pro.
LB-a couple of really good ones. Need quality depth. Need size.
Safety-Etheridge good, but lacks size. McNeil underacheiver. Need talent and depth here.
CB-Powers good, lacks size. Neiko has a chance to be really good. Wonder if Williams will be back this year. No real shutdown corners, but Powers comes close.

Special teams, average w/o Davis. Who knows what we will get w/ place kicker.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Excellent point, Jet.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Sponge, I think that is the point. The stronger positions on the team are still just ok compared to other SEC teams. I think the argument could be made that Marks, Coleman and Powers were the 3 best players on defense. Now all three could possibly be gone. Recruiting and player development are going to have to improve under the new staff. I am firmly in the "it ain't the x's and o's, it's the jimmies and the joes" camp. Good coaches can only coach average talent up so much. It takes both coaching AND talent.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Thanks Monica.

We got slammed on CBS again. Barnhart and friends making us look bad.

    ReplyDelete
  86. What on CBS? I didn't see.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Todd Blackledge says earlier in game ... "Matthew Stafford would benefit from another year at Georgia."

Just a few seconds ago ... "some people have him rated behind Sam Bradford as the best quarterback. I actually have him rated better than Bradford."

So you're the best QB but shouldn't come out ... I realize that they aren't entirely mutually exclusive thoughts, but they are dang sure close.

    I hope Stafford comes out.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Anonymous2:41 PM

Sponge....btw, my 3 fav Seinfeld episodes: Spongeworthy, Soup Nazi and Marine Biologist.

A global question: If we are missing talent at the Plains, while at the same time we have the Scout #6 and #9 rated recruiting classes returning as RSFr--Soph--RSSoph--Jr classes........was Scout that wrong, or did we forget how to develop talent? The attrition rate from those classes is low, so many of the players are still on campus.

    ReplyDelete
  89. depressed. exactly. A good offense and coaching will make us look much better, but we clearly don't have the top notch skill players that GA, UF, LSU have. Powers will return. No way he even gets drafted. Hate losing Marks and probably Coleman. Saban recruits by position w/ specific size, speed, physical requirements. His players look like football players.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Anonymous2:44 PM

    Kathy,

How much was Huds making at tUNA?

    ReplyDelete
  91. Zhoopie ... to answer your question ... yes.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Zhoop. Good question. I think those classes were a little overrated. Last year, several of our best players didn't get to campus. I do think we have some talented redshirts that were injured or just not ready. We are just missing game breakers in key positions. We may also have good talent in key positions, but lack size. That's just my opinion. Compare our team the last two years to the 2004 team, position by position.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Anonymous2:49 PM

Jet....I love it. Sports announcers are great examples of "Saying something stoopid if you talk enough."

Mrs. Hoopie busts golf announcers: One hole the guy is washed up..then on the next hole, the guy is incredible.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Started talking about coaching hires, and Tim Brando, Spencer Tillman, Barnhart starting discussing minority hires. We got slammed for picking CGC. I know we all have discussed it but I am tired of these people. They need to move on.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Mr. Sensi,
Hudspeth's contract at UNA ran through February of 2010, with an base annual salary of $100,250, not including money from his coaching show and camps.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Anonymous2:52 PM

There ain't no Karlos Dansbys on that team.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Barnhardt was a big Tubby fan and friend. He's not going to cut us any slack. It will all go away, AU will still be here, just like always. WAR DAMN EAGLE

    ReplyDelete
  98. Anonymous2:53 PM

    Good deal. Thanks, Kathy.

Got any thoughts on what TB will make?

    ReplyDelete
  99. Spurrier took some real but wippins this year.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Sensi, I can't imagine UNA being able to pay him too much more than what Huds was making, can you? But he is in it for the love of coaching. After his press conference, he was flying to Texas for the Cotton Bowl. He was flying home for a day and returning to Florence on the 5th ready to recruit. He has a 10-year old son that he wants to share the coaching experience with like he had with his dad.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Anonymous2:58 PM

About 2 days prior to us announcing CGC, Barnhart put out an article outlining why we should hire CTG. I respect Barnhart, Tillman is a tool.

    ReplyDelete
  102. The only real problem I have had with alot of these players we have is their size. When I first came to AU in the early 90s, players walking around campus looked like giants. That said, AU has to specialize in scouting and player development. I doubt we will ever out 'jimmy and joe' Alabama, UGA, and UF. It just wont happen on a consistent basis. But we cant let the Demarcus Wares and Osi Umenyioras right under our nose get away either.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Anonymous3:00 PM

Yeah I can't think of any way UNA pays much more. He may get some bigger sponsor deals with his name and all, but he has to be in it for the love of it in D2.

Good thing is the staff is staying in place.

I wonder what he knows about the spread option they run up there? That was barely even around last time he was a coach.

    ReplyDelete
  104. I have no problem with Barnhart really, but Tillman & Brando are just jerks. Just hacks me off thats all.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Hey TB at least they arent still talking about us chop blocking Glenn Dorsey and ruining his NFL career.

    ReplyDelete
  106. True but Chaz is gone so there was no reason.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Big Cat, they are talking about it on the LSU boards. There was a thread titled Chop Blocks vs Fake Field Goal this morning. They brought up the "dirty" play of Chaz. What a bunch of whiners. Didn't hear any of the announcers going on and on about the chop blocks that were called against Ga Tech and LSU last night.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Anonymous3:05 PM

Sensi and Kathy.....I hope CTB will keep UNA winning and wish him well. It is indeed weird to see him the the State of Alabama again.

    If UGA scores here...game over.

Jet...now they want Stafford to come back next season, but aren't surprised of he goes pro.

    TD...UGA....game over

    ReplyDelete
  109. I hope CGC has a armor truck sitting outside the Citrus Bowl waiting on CRG and maybe even going after CSS one more time.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Anonymous3:08 PM

Yeah, that'll pretty much be it for Michigan State.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Wonder who Malzahn has in mind for offensive assistants.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Anonymous3:10 PM

ABC is unabashed with their promotion of the Rose Bowl.....they are doing the typical ABC brainwashing thing.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Yea Kathy they really need to move on. I am not sure why the media hates Auburn so much. I think it's because we mess up their perfect world of State school domination.

    ReplyDelete
  114. If I hear that the Rose Bowl is the "Ganddaddy of them all" one more time...

    ReplyDelete
  115. Anonymous3:14 PM

As I said on the last GIBD show, I hate the Rose Bowl because it insists upon itself.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Its about agendas, ABC ESPN want their favorites. We saw it in 04 so I'm not surprised it continues.

    ReplyDelete
  117. AUBigCat, I doubt AU can out-recruit LSU, Bama etc, but we have got to come closer to them in recruiting. The gap seems to be getting greater and AU needs to stop the bleeding. This year and last year in Alabama, the top ten players in the state(by most accounts), AU has not even been in the running for. That has got to be improved on.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Thats what I like about CGC. Hes going into those sites that have been bamer strong holds and stating our cause.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Anonymous3:25 PM

UGA has shut down AU in the state of Georgia and gets whomever they want.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Depressed I'm 100% in agremment with that! I think Chiz made it clear that AU would challange for every top recruit when he set up the visit with Kirkpatrick.

    ReplyDelete
  121. That's why Garner is important. Gets us back into Ga.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Plus I think that CGC & CM contacts out west will help. I think we might get some players out of Texas.

    ReplyDelete
  123. I think it would go a long way if AU started making more savy moves like playing teams in ATL the way bama did with Clemson. Or even playing FSU or Miami in Florida. Recruits need to know more about us than what the slanted media has to say.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Anyone see the article on PM's site about out interest in Ellis Johnson?

    ReplyDelete
  125. Anonymous3:34 PM

BigCat, I have said for years that Auburn needs to step out on a limb and play the other big schools in Florida and at least one more big one around the country (and WVU doesn't count). The AU-Florida State games I saw growing up were awesome.

Auburn could use some exposure in the west as well. I'd like to see a home and home with Oregon or something like that.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Anonymous3:34 PM

Absolutely TB.....If Jet can just "will" it too happen.

I say ban Gatorade baths...it's really getting old.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Zhoopie, that is another good argument for going after RG. Not only does it improve AU it would be a blow to UGA. Of course there will always be an advantage for them in their own state, but I believe he can pull some of their top players our way. I am encouraged to see Chizik compete for these players in Alabama, but the results from his efforts are not yet known. Garner is a sure thing with a proven track record everywhere he has been.

    ReplyDelete
  128. I agree Cat. The media is slanted.Listening to Jox over the net this week and on the opening drive they had on there talking heads that cover during the holidays. The Allison guy said Auburn would always be a second tier school and would never reach the level of the Alabamas, Texas, USCs. I just laughed thinking weren't u just coming off serious years of being down.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Any flights from Florida to AU today? If Johnson is our guy, I would imagine the announcement would be made pretty quickly with their season just ending.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Has anyone heard that Eddie Gran is close to going to work for Tennessee?
    Happy New Year!

    ReplyDelete
  131. Depressed; I would suspect that things will move rather quickly possibly starting tomorrow. With visitations starting back up we need boots on the ground.

  132. The Gran to Tenn thing has been in the works for a while now. I havent heard anything new lately though. I wonder what the hold up has been

    ReplyDelete
  133. Jet was talking about the Ellis Johnson rumor earlier today. Sounds like that one is gaining momentum.

Kathy posted at 10:41am on this thread that she heard Gran was going to So Miss.

  137. Ellis Johnson is a good coach..

My only concern with him if I were an Auburn fan is that he is widely rumored to have been Finebaum's source on the Dubose staff at Alabama.

    ReplyDelete
  138. AUBC,
I just heard that he had interviewed and wondered if anyone else knew anything. Didn't he have a good relationship w/ the Miami crowd. If so we've signed some pretty good players from there.

    ReplyDelete
  139. FSJ thats a very good reason to not hire him.

    Garner Garner Garner

  140. "Kathy posted at 10:41am on this thread that she heard Gran was going to So Miss."

Not Gran... I was talking about Knox.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Depressed. I'm with you on recruiting. We aren't even mentioned as a shool of interest for most of the top top guys. Alabama has replaced us in that list. I'm not saying we are going to out recruit UF, UGA an UA in their respective states when they are good, but we should get our share. If we get 4 of the top 12 in Alabama, 3 of the top 15 in Georgia, one of the top 12 in Mississippi, Florida, others. Then we can evaluate talent and fill in on the rest. We will win a lot of games. TT just got lazy and recruited only out of our camps the last three years.

    ReplyDelete
  142. Kathy,
Are you Kathy and Zoopie? Ha!

    ReplyDelete
  143. Did y'all get that email from Auburn Undercover that Chizik has strong interest in South Carolina's Johnson as DC?

    ReplyDelete
  144. Anonymous3:55 PM

My fault Kathy, good catch.....I'm watching the Clem-Neb game too closely.

    ReplyDelete
  145. By the way, Finebuam can stick it. I never listen to the guy. I wish he would get that old fashioned country A wuppin he deserves.

    ReplyDelete
  146. No, I'm just Kathy! I didn't want any misinformation regarding Gran. My earlier post was regarding Coach Knox and Southern Miss, which Jay has also heard. I haven't heard anything on Gran.

    ReplyDelete
  147. And I'm also watching the Neb/Clemson game Zhoopie!

    ReplyDelete
  148. Saw that teaser on the front of Phillip's website Mon. Don't know how I feel about Ellis.

    ReplyDelete
  149. Depressed, Mon. I was told that our pres, Jay G strongly recommended to CGC that he honor the current commitments we have. I understand that CGC is less than enthralled with half the guys we have committed.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Spongeworthy, if you don't listen how do you know about the country boy a**whoopin?

    ReplyDelete
  151. Get ready for Elliz ... a very, very good football coach.

Now, let's pass the hat for Rodney to lure him home as AHC/Recruiting Coordinator

    ReplyDelete
  152. That's nice for the pres to say but he dont coach football. If CGC doesnt want these guys then why hold on to them? If he can improve our situation then I say let him do what hes got to do.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Mon. I do check in occasionally to see if he has any decent guests. Guess I didn't go cold turkey. I listen to JOX690 the vast majority of the time. It' only take about a minute to figure out PF is putting someone down again, so it's easy to change the dial.

    ReplyDelete
  154. Mon,
After watching that game today I'm not sure we want him. SC got a good-ole boy___ whoppin today!
    Spongeworthy,
I haven't heard anything like that!! What or who are your sources?

    ReplyDelete
  155. Jet strongly recommends Gogue go back to the President's Mansion and shut his yap.

    ReplyDelete
  156. I can live w/ Ellis. Well spoken guy, knows the turf, good enough coach. Hope he knows a good secondary coach.

    ReplyDelete
  157. Spongeworthy, two of the last three years we had top 10 recruiting classes.

    ReplyDelete
  158. Whoa any potential AU coach with a connection to finebum is red flag IMO. Maybe Chizz can add a no-contact clause in his contract.

    ReplyDelete
  159. Jet,
My Buddy!! yOU'VE GONE TO FAR!! yOU ARE NOW REFERING to yourself in the 3rd Person!!!

    ReplyDelete
  160. I agree PF is a cancer in the state of Alabama. His phone callers represent the worst in our state. He does have good guests but most of the time its creampuff stuff. He only gets hard when he is talking to CPD.

    ReplyDelete
  161. What are you folks worryin' about F-Bomb for?

How about a clause in the next DC's contract that says that our defense will knock the dog snot out of everybody we play.

We'll do what we need to do and everybody else can take a leap.

    ReplyDelete
  162. MDaniel. Got a few close contacts. Not everything I get turns out to be true, but an awful lot does. Can't confirm JG request to CGC, but based on how he made JJ conduct this coaching search, what a cluster, it sure makes sense. Not sayin CGC will listen. There are still quite a few guys heavily involved that trump our University prez.

    ReplyDelete
  163. Jet was a freshman with Bo ... sorry ... happens from time to time.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Good Lord - You people give PF way too much credit. Sheesh. Get over it already.

    ReplyDelete
  165. Jetz,
I'm PUMPED!! Screw PF & Shane w/ his 23 IQ

    ReplyDelete
  166. I am not sure why anyone cares about Finebaum. Admittedly, his callers give ignorant rednecks a bad name, but it apparently works for him.

    ReplyDelete
  167. SW,

That makes sense but surely, the powers that be would not start his tenure this way!!
That worries me more than anything.

    ReplyDelete
  168. ZSteve. Won't argue with that, but how many made it to AU. We are just now getting two from a class two years ago. (JC signee;s) Two or three of last years best are in JC now. DeRon Furr was by all account a great athlete (maybe w/ a bad attitude) and he's gone. Ryan Williams looked to be an up and coming corner, sat out this year (anyone know his status). Top 15 classes or not, as I said earlier, compare our team now to the 2004 players. Just sayin!

    ReplyDelete
  169. See u guys later. Evening trip tonight to the magic kingdom to visit the mouse. Later.

    ReplyDelete
  170. jet, I don't know what to think. Unless he is unhappy at UGA, I don't see him coming back in a lateral move. Maybe AU will throw an OBSCENE amount of money his way, and he won't be able to refuse. AU cannot let him get away.

    ReplyDelete
  171. As far as Ellis Johnson, he is probably a step down from Rhoads, Muschamp, or Chizik, but his defenses have always been pretty tough. He might be a better choice than Rhoads in terms of recruiting.

    ReplyDelete
  172. On Finebaum and football ...

Words and phrases may lead to emotional bruises.

But a forearm to the throat will make Julio think twice the next time he crosses the middle.

    ReplyDelete
  173. Spongeworthy, if you compare our teams against 2004, we will likely never be on that level again. We no longer have the coaches or the players.

    ReplyDelete
  174. Depressed ... it's time for obscenity.

    So to speak.

    ReplyDelete
  175. Jetz,

MD was a freshman w/ Bo also. He was the most gifted athlete I have ever seen or probably ever will. He did have have that SMALL problem w/ the stttuuuteering and talking about himself inthe same venacular as the New Year Jetz!!!!Ha

    ReplyDelete
  176. Steve, you may be right, but I'll take one of the 2004 players per position and it would be an upgrade to what we have now. One RB, one wideout, one corner, one safety, one linebacker, one defensive end, one DL. We just need three or four bigtime players. We don't have them now.

    ReplyDelete
  177. Anonymous4:29 PM

PF is only about increasing listenership. I have only recently listened. I was in Alabama over Xmas fishing w/ my Bammer brother. When the Andre Smith suspension was announced, PF turned the discussion into an agent bashing session. The Bammers lit up the phones.

    ReplyDelete
  178. SW was there with Cribbs and Brooks. (there's that third person again) Got to see Bo as well. That was a good run of tailbacks, huh. Andrews, Cribbs, Brooks, Jackson, Fullwood. What I'd give today....

    ReplyDelete
  179. Penn St got called for a Ziemba and saved Musburger from crying.

    ReplyDelete
  180. Monica ...

that's an awesome line ... pardnah! (a Musburgerism)

    ReplyDelete
  181. SW,

I think we can still get quality guys like that!! 1 maybe 2 years out.

    ReplyDelete
  182. Monica thanks you, Jet.

    ReplyDelete
  183. Sponge, we may have more receiving talent on our current team than we had on the 2004 team. The issue isn't talent. It has to be coaching.

    ReplyDelete
  184. mon w/ her cynisism!!

    ReplyDelete
  185. MDan. I think we should expect to get a few quality guys like that. We can't get em all, but we should expect some of em. After all, we ARE running back U.

    ReplyDelete
  186. Malzahn Product Scores TD!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  187. How about JG and the 200,000 hits, did I miss something? That is unreal!!

    ReplyDelete
  188. I don't think it's that unreal. I mean I probably hit refresh about 50,000 times myself!

What I would like to know is how many UNIQUE hits the site gets.

    ReplyDelete
  189. ZSteve, i keep hearing that. Coaching is abysmal now doubt, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Did you guys see that strike for a TD by USC. Man, I miss seeing that at Jordan Hare. (Sorry, Pat Dye field)

    ReplyDelete
  190. Mon,

You make me laugh!! I thought I was the only one who had to hit the refresh button!!!
I was too embarassed to ask anyone else.

    ReplyDelete
  191. ZSteve. Coaching does mean an awful lot. Consider that Boise State, Utah, others do an great job w/ their talent. Our talent has to be at least that good, huh?

    ReplyDelete
  192. MD. I do the same. Just thought I didn't know what I was doing. Thought maybe I wasn't Blogworthy.

    ReplyDelete
  193. Anonymous4:43 PM

Does USC have any WRs under 6'-3"?

    ReplyDelete
  194. If you don't hit refresh how would you see new comments?

Sponge - That USC TD strike was by Damian Williams. Damian Williams high school coach was OUR DC Malzahn. Damian was headed to Florida to play until he found out Arky had hired Malzahn. (then the soap opera started at Arky)
