He landed on his feet ...

Say this about Steve Ensminger: He knows how to network.

Just six weeks after losing his assistant job at Auburn, Ensminger is back in business. He will coach quarterbacks at Smiths Station High School.

Big ups to O-A News ace Andrew "Gribs" Gribble for a brilliant lead.
Steve Ensminger has landed on his feet.

I agree Tommy Tuberville won't get a Good Job like AU at his age and want to put in the time to rebuild.

He's only gonna get a rebuilding job and that takes years to do and I don't think Tommy has the patience and time to put into the job.

Plus Bar-B-Que don't last that long in the sun!!!!

For those who don't know Phil Gargis is one of Auburn's great recruiting stories. He was going to play for Bama, but his gf (now Ms. Gargis) told him she was going to Auburn. She was the gorgeous majorette with the waist length blond hair we men endured the first half of football waiting for. (One of a plethora of gorgeous majorettes Auburn has fielded BTW). Phil made a wise decision.

What an indictment on Tubs offensive staff!

Former OC - Franklin - back to HS consulting
Former OL (co-OC for a time) - Nall - trucking company COO
Former TE/QB (co/interim-OC for a time) - Ensminger - QB coach at a small HS
Former RB/ST - Gran - unemployed, interviewed at UT (note* I think Gran was a good RB coach)
Former WR - Knox - rumored to USM but never confirmed? Unemployed?

Compare to defensive staff:
Former DC - Rhodes - HC @ ISU
Former DL - Dunn - joined staff @ Syracuse (confirmed?)
Former DE - Price - joined staff at ISU
Former LB - Williz - retained at AU

No wonder the D always had to carry the O. Is there really any question as to which side was better coached?

The only way this could be less of an example of landing on his feet is if he were coaching JV or managing a trucking company.

I think Tubs has his eye on a few jobs around the country, namely the SE. Until he gets an opportunity at one of these places, I thnk he'll stay on the sideline.

By the way, a funny side note. My wife's Bio-Chem prof told his class this morning that he didn't expect them to show up Friday morning because it was going to be so cold that "their skin might freeze within 10 minutes". (It's expected to be about 12 Friday morning). This guy is from Montana where they occasionally see temps of -50 c. I just thought this was extremely funny. It's the play where the QB runs 4 yards in the backfield to hand off to the running back who is running parallel to the line of scrimmage trying to get to the corner before everyone else. It is slower developing than The Remains of the Day.

Well eventually Luv, the other team wouldn't be prepared for it, and it would break away for a touchdown, or something like that.

Oh Luv this season we couldn't do anything. And when we did, there was always an infraction to make sure it didn't count. It seemed like those lines way back when, were able to impose their will, and it didn't matter that the defense knew what was coming, they STILL couldn't stop. One thing I do remember is that there was an honest to goodness fullback leading the play, which I'm sure helped.

Sorry, but I'm addicted, I don't think I could force myself not to check in for a whole week. But, if I had to.... I guess... I could try...
However, I for one, would not expect Jay to do anything other than play GH and lounge around his house all week. I doubt I'd ever change out of my pj's and maybe not even shower if it was me.
I say we get Doug and Moon to hook up the HABOTN with free lunch at Salsaritas and we all get together. (That would probably force Jay to get a shower and change out of his pj's for the first time that week, so I dunno if he'd show).

I'm sure Ensminger will fit in better at the HS level. Smiths has been down recently and have struggled since moving from 5A to 6A, but Rose had some success this year and made it to the playoffs.

The thought of JetZ going all Boo Radley amuses me.

No ... it's J-Z ... going Boo Radley, not me.

"Miz Jean Louise ... may I present to you Mr. Arthur 'J-Z' Radley?"

At bookstores across the nation... the most awaited sequel in American literary history ...

To Kill a Hottie by Harper Lee with Coach Pat Dye

My apologies for mixing my "J's" and "Z's", either way, I get a chuckle out of the thought. I don't care if it's everyone's favorite Mr. Pulley, it's funny.

I like the book idea too. They are buddies or so we've been led to believe.

Gatiger ... it just works better with that lanky ol' J-Z standin' like a statue in the corner.

Omnica can be Scout in the ham costume.

we kicked it around previously- -but wasn't there some sentiment that folks would be willing to convert this to a pay site- (if that's what it took)

4:55 PM
Blogger Norm said...

That works for Omnica. If memory serves me correctly, I believe she's actually from just down the road a piece from the author's house.

WDEwg ... I pay for 2 other sites, and I'd be glad to pay to HABOTNize ... but I would imagine the Advertiser would want the revenue and that would likely prevent Jay G from seeing anything substantive, or even anything at all ... and I ain't for that.

Blogger WDEwg said...

Yeah, Jet- he'd have to leave and go completely on his own- -which I don't know if there is enough of us to support him, wifey and soccer child- -or at least not at a price that I'd be able to do.

Jay G., Sorry to hear about your furlough. As for the HABOTN, you do what you got to do. We will follow your lead. The state of the economy is only matched by the state of the 2008 Auburn football season. Hopefully both will get A LOT better this year.

There is actually more to do in Brewton than in Monroeville...

Jay G - Any news on Steve Campbell coming to coach OL?....will that be the last hire for the team?

For some reason, landed on butt or head seems more appropriate.

6:24 PM
Blogger Miller said...

Has anyone other than Campbell and Grimes interviewed for the OL job?
Campbell I could take, I'm not sure Grimes would do the trick...

What do you think the cut in pay was for Ensminger? Actually surprised that a HS quarterback coach gets paid.

Talk of Brewton got me to thinking about Glenwood (it's 7 miles SE of Luverne). Took a nostalgic tour and, to my amazement, that ghost town has STREET view! Saw the houses where my dad was born and grew up.
