Recruiting syllabus
FRIDAY NOONISH
Post No. 1,017
Hey everyone. Thanks for visiting the HABOTN so frequently last night and this morning. I knew Thursday night would give us plenty to discuss. Gene Chizik certainly didn't disappoint.
One of the things he addressed was how these next few days will be exciting for him. This weekend ought to put a few gray hairs on his head.
That's because Auburn is playing host to some pretty significant prospects. Let's take a gander:

Hey everyone. Thanks for visiting the HABOTN so frequently last night and this morning. I knew Thursday night would give us plenty to discuss. Gene Chizik certainly didn't disappoint.
One of the things he addressed was how these next few days will be exciting for him. This weekend ought to put a few gray hairs on his head.
That's because Auburn is playing host to some pretty significant prospects. Let's take a gander:
- WR Rueben Randle (Bastrop, La.): Star wideout. Everybody wants him. Auburn probably won't get him, but simply coaxing a visit from a 5-star recruit doesn't hurt the Tigers' cause.
- S Daren Bates (Olive Branch, Miss.): Lightly recruited until recently. Committed to Auburn with an Alabama offer in hand. He's teammates with OL Aubrey Phillips, who is a Tennessee commit who may be wavering. Speaking of him ...
- OL Aubrey Phillips (Olive Branch, Miss.): He has offers from everyone. He's a 6-foot-6 tackle. He told AuburnSports.com that he'll head to Auburn with an open mind. Phillips is one to watch.
- TB David Oku (suburban Oklahoma City): Elusive, compact back. Listed at 5-10. I watched him play a couple times on TV (I went to HS in Oklahoma and like keeping up with those teams) and he was willing to brawl between the tackles. Looks like a good one to me. He's a Tennessee commitment who is being recruited by Eddie Gran.
- CB Taikwon Paige (originally of Aiken, S.C.): He's a junior-college guy who was committed to Minnesota when Ted Roof was there. Paige doesn't currently have an offer from Auburn. Rivals.com lists Paige as a 4-star recruit, but he hasn't received offers from many (any?) BCS schools.
- DT Corey Gaines (Tallahassee, Fla.): Active, spark-plug kind of inside lineman. He has offers from a variety of SEC schools. He seemed to enjoy his visit to Ole Miss last weekend and says the Rebels are his leader. Auburn has several Tallahassee guys on the roster, so perhaps that can help the Tigers' chances this weekend.
- Other visitors include: LB Greg King (Memphis), DT Jamontay Pilson (Greenville) and QB Clint Moseley (Leroy).

And then the guy said to me, "401K??? More like 401NotOK!!!! Have you seen this economy?? Yowza!"
yall done blawg'd late tonight.
Yeah, the Spurrier quote is just funny but probably not a reality.
But hey, WTF anyway.
Ok, I've just watched the VH1 Classic's "Classic Albums" about The Band.
If Levoin Helm wasn't bore to play Loretta's daddy in Coal Miner's Daughter I don't know what he was bore fer.
Jay G,
I would like to give you a solution for the limited access to the staff under the Chiz...Please just make up wild and random stories and post them under a "ghost writer" because I used to love that TV show...
Just saw on Al.com that CB Gerald West now says he will sign with Southern Miss instead of Bama. Wish AU could have got him in for a visit.
Sponge, just saw your post on Tracy Rocker. I know this statement begs for argument, but for my money he is the most dominant defensive player I have seen play at AU. Guy was unblockable without a double-team.
Michael,
I know you are finally in bed asleep. I thoroughly enjoy your unusual posts. Are you always on drugs or was your brain just wired better than the rest of ours were?
Ever since you shaved your head, I cannot look at your avatar without thinking of the kidnapped handicap with the clap. Ok, that's not true. I only think of that 93% of the time I look at your avatar.
Good Morning Hotties...
Looks like Auburn had a good turnout this weekend. I wouldn't sweat Randle skipping the trip...He is LSU bound all the way, IMO.
Yeah after McKnight left for USC a couple of years ago those people (the fans and the coaches) aren't letting another top 3 overall prospect get away that easy.
Exactly Ron..
People say that in Alabama there is alot of pressure on a kid to go to UA or AU...
but something tells me it is nothing like the pressure on a Louisiana kid to go to LSU.
Seems almost monopolistic for LSU to have a state with that much talent all to themselves.
Not that Auburn has been making it a competitive market for the instate Alabama kids the last two years.
Wait a minute ... there are players in Alabama we could have been recruiting?
ron..
I bet that changes quickly with next year's class. Chizik is going to make Saban work for each one.
I don't know what Tuberville was thinking last year and for the majority of this year....
Yeah, I'm thinking next year might be a more even split, but Saban will get his... he always does.
What are the odds we keep all of our current recruits and finish strong and have a top 25 class?
I hate to hear that about Pilson, the Greenville, AL DL, we need som guys on the line. Its amazing how these kids make in high school, I hope he makes it from JUCO, but the odds are always against kids that dont get in their first year. It takes alot of patience and work.
and yes Jet, there were some decent players in the state of Alabama last year, specifically in the mobile area. Unfortunately we had a "mole" recruiting that area who had apparently already been compromised by all things evil.
Jay,
Have you seen any of the players around campus? any new news? What about last years signing class? any of them gotten bigger? Have you seen the ghost of Raven Gray?
It looks highly likely we will have a top 25 class. It will be outstanding if we make it into the top 15.
Being in Mobile, the mole was parents and coaches. Mobile is a big bama town, the parents and coaches do everything under the stars to sway them there. There is a kid at the gym I work out at, he is abig recruit for next year, Soloman Patton, bamers tell him all the time to go to bama,I wear my auburn shirt to work out there, and i am usually quiet. One day he asked in front of the other bamers, where do I think you should go, I smiled and said go where you want to go, dont trust your h.s. coach, friends, family or recruiters, then I said well you know Coach Willis recruits for bama now, so know you cant trust him, but I said go where u will be happy and can get an education, most players never see the pros.
It would be awesome if we could land farms, phillips, kight, and one more WR.
I personally want George "black smoke" Bamfo due to the awesomeness of his name.
Has Barrett Trotter gotten a haircut yet? or does he still look like a Jonas brother.
How is Tommy Trott's knee?
Will Gabe McKenzie stay at TE? His dad told me he plans on staying at TE, if he has a choice, said Trott wont be ready by fall yet.
What about Lee Ziemba or Chris Todd's surgeries?
One of my best friends coaches at Murphy and told me four months ago (during the tubs era) Patton wanted to go to Auburn, but Alabama was the only people paying any attention to him. Hopefully that changes, not that i know anything about the kid.
Ron,
He is a very quite nice kid, he works at the gym i go to in Mobile, Sportsplex. Small guy, but supposed to be pretty fast
Jay how is the equestrian team doing?
Totally OT:
Anybody else having issue with Google this morning?
Every website I search for on Google has a page displayed saying that files may harm your computer.
FSJ,
Yea same thing, i had to go to the montgomery advertiser site then click jays web pages
affirmative FSJ. I usually use Yahoo and now i bet millions of other people are doing the same.
www.habotn.com is the way to go
Google down... problems here too. Alabamarunners has Pattons 100 meter @ 10.67. Great speed. Not much height.
Personally, I kind of find it distasteful when fans try to sway a kid to their school. These kids really do need to choose the school that offers the degree that is best for them.
I am sooooooooooo ready for signing day to be over with, I was reading our signing list from last years athlons in my office(bathroom) this a.m., and i was laughing how it all turned out and how not all but most recruiting is overated. Pybus, Neiko and Dantone Hood, out of all those recruits saw the field, of yea, chris todd.:)
Last years signing day debacle was one of the first HABOTN meltdowns only preceded by Muschamp's departure.... seems like along time ago
Yea, at Auburn we always have drama, seems par for the course.
I had the problem with google for about 10 minutes. It seems to be working now.
Yea, I wonder if any of the kids have bulked up, I am glad we kept Coach Yox....Those DL needed some meat on them...
Is the Auburn basketball game on tv today?
Just heard the Phillips kid will commit either today or tommorow
where did u hear that?
Bball gme is not on TV.
I will be there on row one behind the visitirs bench. Good scholly seats.
sorry for the typo's. Fingers too fat.
WTC, my friend, you have my proxy to accomplish anything necessary to advance the cause of our recruiting efforts.
Hey, peops.
I posted an update from the Montgomery Indoor Soccer Complex. I wonder where that post went. Which one of you all is deleting my stuff?
I'm working on a new thread, but the real begins at tipoff of Auburn v. Vanderbilt at one hour past high noon.
Loser leaves town.
Jay, not I...I am thirsting for so new info as I am putting off cleaning the house...
Nothing like marimba music to create a soothing environment for some morning HABOTNy
