Rocker on the way?

1/12/09, MORNING

Hey everyone. A website a few of you turned me to, Footballscoop.com, reports this morning that Ole Miss assistant Tracy Rocker has accepted a job at Auburn. He has been offered the defensive line gig.

UPDATE @ 3:30 p.m.: I expect official confirmation to roll out within the next 90 minutes.

Rocker, 42, won the 1988 Outland Trophy as an Auburn defensive tackle. He has been coaching college ball since taking his first job at West Alabama in 1994. He also has made stops at Troy State, Cincinnati and Arkansas -- where he coached with Auburn offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn in 2006.

very nice move again by Chiz.

And a belated great win to the women's team. For selfish reasons, I hope they get sent to the East Lansing site for the first two rounds that I can see them in person during the tourney.

That was taken at the West Virginia game. My girlfriend and I have a running thing by taking Capt. Morgan poses at different places. I have accomplished this feat at Wrigley Field, Auburn games, and other sporting events. Good times.

I was in the Auburn RV lot by the Coliseum. WVU actually gave Auburn fans there own lot, and I had a connection to friends with an RV, grill, and booze. It was a long walk to the stadium, but a solid place to party.

In other news, Kate Winslet (the real one; not Becky B. from the Cotton Bowl) is receiving official HABOTN adulation for her swell Golden Globes get-up.

If true this hire will be well received by the AU family. Chiz has done a really nice job of assembling this staff so far.

My biggest remaining concern is offensive line coach. Is there any chance Searels is still in the picture?

My favorite Rocker story ... an agent was messing with Kevin Porter and wanting him to lure Rocker along too.

Agent pays Porter to bring Rocker to Atlanta for a fun weekend ... and both get hooked up financially and likely otherwise. Auburn finds out and declares both ineligible before a bowl game -- the Syracuse game, I believe.

One problem: the large human that Porter called "Big Tracy: all weekend wasn't really Rocker. Tracy, who was known as "Rock," proved his innocence with witnesses and had his eligibility restored. Porter, of course, did not.

I live in Mobile and have never heard of the kid and I follow sports in detail. No other sites have reported such. Why would we offer this kid over Cotton or Moseley? Cooper's other offers are from USA(south alabama) 1st year prograM.

Just a week ago, Robert Cooper seemed bound for UAB. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound quarterback was widely considered a sleeper after starting just one season at the position for Daphne High.

Now, Cooper has multiple offers, including one from Auburn.

New Tigers offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn likes what he's seen of Cooper and head coach Gene Chizik offered Cooper a scholarship just before the prospect left for an official visit to UAB.

"Coach Chizik told me that he and Coach Malzahn watched my film and were really impressed with what I can do throwing the ball and running the ball," Cooper said. "I watched the GMAC Bowl on television and I really like (Malzahn's Tulsa) offense. Right now, it's between UAB and Auburn for me."

AU1N04- Thanks, I couldn't recall where he played, knew he was being recruited as safety.

Barkley- That has to be some sort of record for the lowest ACT score. Did he take it with his eyes closed?

From watching the Army All-American game, Bryce Brown could definitely work in Malz's offense.

What about Cencade Pennington or Eric Hines-Tucker? Would they be good fits Harrison?

will-those guys could be on "special teams"

He is a beast but I have not seen anything lately about him coming to Auburn on an official visit. Rivals and Scout don't even have AU listed as one of his options.

Bryce Brown could work in Tony Franklin's offense. I watched a few of his interviews and got the impression he would go to Miami to play with his brother, but who knows. He's good in my book either way, because he kept his brother from going to bama.

Harrison,
I think anyone who makes a 13 on the ACT should automatically be on "special" teams. In fact they should ride on a "special" bus to the games and take "special" classes as well.

Cencade Pennington, remember seeing that guy in High School run up and down the field against my Alma Mater (Andalusia High School). He was a bust at Auburn though.

DoWhat? has spurred an idea ... best player you competed against ... any sport. Name the player and sport.

That way we are not limited to football as not to discriminate against the female ladies of the girl Hotties.

Turbo Prop, son of Jet, is considering a side business of taking the ACT for anyone who needs it, and may be willing sell a few points off his two tries for the right price. Anything to help the cause, right?

Just sayin'.

Colenzo Hubbard (Minor HS 73) Alabama DT. Played against him my junior year in HS. Beat me to a pulp.

I won't say I competed against him b/c I didn't see the court much. But I was on a basketball team that played against former AU player Mack McGadney.

On a side note, my wife and a friend once double dated with Jake Peavy. Peavy was with the other girl.

Time for an early version "Things I learned today on HABOTN."

Mr. Jay G. Tate needs his own radio show. He used those two buffoons today like a Kleenex with some of his witty banter.

Scottie B. is the man!

Gene Chizik is putting together the most awesomest staff in college football.

I can count on Monica to have my Facebook back.

I'm up here at Auburn now for a bit.

Looks like I'll have some comments from Auburn's newest defensive line coach by 6 p.m. CST.

One minor issue: The Daughter has a soccer game in Montgomery before then and I'm her chauffeur. Not good.

And I also bowled against some guy named Munson...had a great hook.

Best opponent ever faced ...

Tommie Agee, Maplesville High School, Auburn University, Dallas Cowboys.

I whiffed at him on the opening kickoff of the first game of my senior year ... intentionally. Well, maybe not intentionally, but I wasn't too disappointed. And he got a touchdown out of it. So, he scored, and I didn't end up in the hospital. A win-win, if you ask me.

Thanks for asking j-z, yes I did. It appears our group is so small that we can't be downsized further, but there are 500+ that won't make the end of the week. Although my boss has "the meeting" Wednesday. But I made it through Monday!!

I first met Tracy Rocker when i was about 13 yrs old. Auburn was playing FSU in the sugar bowl and my folks took me to see them play. My mom knew i was a huge TR fan and actually got him and pat sullivan to come and meet me, give me autographs, all that. TR gave me an auburn sugar bowl shirt they only gave the teams and pat sullivan gave me an autograph and some other stuff as well. From that point on i was a solid AU tiger. Glad to know that someone that takes that kind of time out is at AU making impressions on other young folks. CTR has my full support as DL coach. WAR DAMN ROCKER!!

3:41 PM
Blogger Jet said...

He was much a man ... as was his brother or cousin, Arthur Lee, who was a year ahead of him in school.

Tommie returned the kickoff and had like 195 on nine carries against us. I remember one play where almost all 11 of us were on him at one point or another.

It was like watch a dad shed his boys off him playing in the yard. Every yard or so, you'd see another body fly off.

They beat us something like 37-0 ... and he didn't play but one series in the second half.
