Taylor is a go

1/5/08, AFTERNOON

Hey everyone. I just received 100% firm confirmation that Trooper Taylor has been added to the Auburn staff.

Morning reports indicated that Taylor had taken the job, though speculation grew during the afternoon when Auburn didn't confirm the hire. The delay wasn't really a delay -- Taylor was discussing his plans with OSU brass.

Taylor's primary function will be to coach receivers. He also is an assistant head coach.

Rivals.com assessed Taylor as one of the nation's top 10 recruiters in both 2005 and 2007. He was at University of Tennessee during those years.

``This is a great opportunity to join Coach Chizik at Auburn and be a part of a dynamic offensive staff that he has put together,” Taylor said. ``I’m excited to be coaching at a program like Auburn and return to the Southeastern Conference."

TROOPER TAYLOR CURRICULUM VITAE
Oklahoma State, 2008 (co-coordinator of offense, WRs)
Tennessee, 2004-07 (WRs, RBs, dir. of player development) -- in separate stints
Tulane, 1999-2003 (WRs)
New Mexico, 1998 (RBs)
Baylor, 1992-97 (WRs, DBs, grad. assistant) -- in separate stints

Playing career: Baylor '92 (defensive back)

ALSO: Jay Boulware, hired yesterday, has added TEs as part of his coaching responsibilities.

  1. So you mean you can't just look at an athletic department's website and judge whether or not a coach has left by the presence/absence of his picture?

I guess I better stop refreshing the whitehouse.gov staff page to see who the next president is. I will try to figure it out by other means.

  2. Jay,

Has he been hiding in the plane the entire time....?????

    ReplyDelete
  3. This is wonderful news. I don't expect a problem getting a decent offensive line coach. Now, as long as the defense doesn't go to pot, we should be much improved. I must remind myself of the Franklin Experience and not get too excited.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Auburn wasn't fazed by the "delay" ... he was talking to people at Okla. State.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Now they are just playing with our emotions

    ReplyDelete
  6. He may have wanted to say his goodbyes, which is cool.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Playing with my money is like playing with my emotions, Smokey!

    ReplyDelete
  8. Jay,

I wish we were all as cool, calm and collected as you.

We still get the Kicker on a Stick, right?

    ReplyDelete
  9. Will he have to wear one of those Hot Dog on a Stick uniforms from the 1980s?

    ReplyDelete
  10. It is ridiculous how much worry I have put into whether we hired Trooper Taylor. I never even heard of him until yesterday and today I've been thinking Auburn football was doomed if we didn't get him. I gotta get a life!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Now, if Chizik will just get Garner to come back home, I might just soil myself.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I'm down with that. No Journey though. Journey + 8th grade dance = good. Journey + AU football = Prairie View A&M.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Yes Cincy, you do. And that life is Auburn Tiger Football. War Eagle! Now go hit somebody.

    ReplyDelete
  14. J-Z
Chiz the Impaler will be hold tryouts real soon for "Kicker on a Stick"!!!!! fo sho!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  15. So we are now back to being....SUPER DUPER with LUPER and TROOPER....Boy how I miss 3rd grade sometimes.

    ReplyDelete
  16. HAHAHA yeah, Cincy, go hit somebody...

    ReplyDelete
  17. Terrific News! That was a long ride home from work anxious to get home to my computer for Jay's latest update.

    ReplyDelete
  18. The JCCW seems to be lagging a bit. While Jay was saying wait, the JCCW was holding the welcome Troop party. Now JCCW has caught up and is saying wait. How about Roller Coaster as a them. Who was it sang that, the Ohio Players?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Shall we go for the trifecta and go after the line coach at OSU...You remember how bad you hated Texas when they took CGC and then when they took CWM. Well my friends we are that hate today at OSU.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Hotties,
It was really interesting how PF put a spin on the "Mormons beat down of the Morons" in Nola!

They are basking in the Glow of Satan!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  21. My kids (a 2007 AU grad and a current AU student) think it hilarious that their 49 year old mom posts to AU sport blogs! I catch a bit of good natured grief from them.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Okay, here is our off season theme song.

    Link

    ReplyDelete
  23. My kids feel the same way cincy, at least my youngest does. My oldest hooked me up to facebook!

    ReplyDelete
  24. They just don't appreciate just how cool you are, Cincy!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Cindy,
Tell them this is GROWN Folk talk and that kids are not allowed..

and that they should "Go get a life!!!!"

    ReplyDelete
  26. Kathy,
My son just calls me the Facebook stalker.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Phew!! I was getting worried with the print, retract, print, back-track way of the other sites...

    Thanks Jay!

    War Damn Trooper!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Another good reason I don't have kids. I'd hate to think what they'd be calling me right about now...

    ReplyDelete
  29. AUntheMob,

How did he spin it. Hopefully it was how Saban being the masterminded defensive coach that he is, couldn't figure out that uh I think they are going to throw it to #88 (Brown). Simply outcoached by a staff that combined does not make as much as he does alone.

    ReplyDelete
  30. that he is still a GREAT Coach and that the Turd is turned!!!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I saw some crazy numbers the greatest coach ever today and to be frank, they were not that great.

Although when he was down on a knee screaming like a nut in Jackson ear hole the other night, that was great.

    ReplyDelete
  32. tigercowboy is was pathetic all the "it was still a great season" crap spewing out!!!!

I think all the bammers were trying to convince themselves not others!!!!

They also know that CGC is making staff hires that will combat Satan's perceived recruiting greatness!!!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I guess we have no room for Pat Nix? I didn't want him as our OC, but I think he would be a great position coach. No one loves Auburn more.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Staff Meeting last Night:

"Guys, Dinky just thinks he hates Auburn today. This is why I have chosen you to join me in my quest to bring down the Legion of Doom. It is my goal as Captain Auburn to restore Bama in its rightful place.....under my foot. It want be easy but Dinky is going down...are you with me?!?!?!?"

And they started throwing chairs around and ran out calling cruits.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Great news on Trooper! Cincy you weren't the only one sweating bullets over a WR coach that you had never heard of before yesterday.

I heard that Luper said when he arrived that we was going to get his 1st recruit for AU...that being Trooper. I like how he delivers. Now if he could get us about 3 WRs 6'2+ with great hands and 4.5+ speed I'd appreciate it.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I think we are going to have to wait until the right team loses in the pros to find out who we are getting for a DC and D line coach.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Dear Leader I may agree with you.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Any guesses as to who that "right team" is?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Monica,

    I am honored...

    ReplyDelete
  40. Cincy,

It is killin me not knowing....

    ReplyDelete
  41. Too funny. Trooper's bio has be removed from the Oklahoma State staff site!

    http://www.okstate.com/SportSelect.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=200&KEY=&SPID=143&SPSID=1419

    ReplyDelete
  42. I think Coach Herring is still on the table..has ties to the SEC and his son is on the team.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Cincy,

off topic but make sure your Kids know that Facebook is FOREVER!!!.... and post wisely...

I would hate to have to defend some of the stupid stuff I did in school... hell its hard enough defending the stupid stuff I do now...

    ReplyDelete
  44. AUBigCat, we already have receivers that match your wants: Zachary, Slaughter, and Hawthorne all fit the bill. We just need a coach that can get them headed in the right direction, and we may have just found one.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Watchin BOOM get fired up on the sidelines tonight is really gona make me fall for him again.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Hello to everyone!
I've been out of town for several days so this is the first HOTTIES fix i've had in a while. Hope all are well.
Who is going to be the DC???

    ReplyDelete
  47. jhag,
Please for the Love of God.....

    Let it GO!!!!!

    BOOM is nevermore!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  48. It's official. Auburn has released a statement.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I think we are going to be surprised at the talent we have at Rec, O line and QB that has never been coached up.....

    WDE...

    ReplyDelete
  50. Dear Leader,
I think my son knowing I stalk his facebook keeps him very careful. Plus the engineering firm he works for as a student told him they check facebook sites before hiring.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Boulware also gets TEs added to his responsibilities.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Zteve I'm greedy!! I want to be able to go 4-5 wide and know there is a match-up problem for the other team bc all or our WRs are 6'2+ with wheels and hands!

    ReplyDelete
  53. We have the talent to be very good offensively. My biggest concern is depth on the offensive line and runningback. Hopefully Eric Smith will be the third runningback, but we could use Chaz Ramsey back on the offensive line.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Taylor named assistant head coach and wide receivers coach at Auburn.

    ReplyDelete
  55. HEck it should be a great recruiting tool to have instant playing ability for a strong 6'7" 350lb o lineman...

    ReplyDelete
  56. Troop Shakalaka!

    ReplyDelete
  57. 3 more bald people and maybe we can get Malz and Chiz to shave thier heads...

    ReplyDelete
  58. The SEC West is going to be incredibly tough next season if Auburn turns out the way I think they might. We could be very good and still fight to be in the top half of the west. Ole Miss, Bama, and LSU will all be tough. I expect Arkansas to be much improved. MSU is a wildcard.

It is possible that Bama has a drop off or that LSU continues to slide, but my guess it both will be pretty solid, especially LSU now that they have a QB.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Yea OL is a concern. Although 2 of our OL commits have the size to play pretty quickly if they can develop fast enough.

    ReplyDelete
  60. DL,
I down with the War Bald Eagle!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  61. I agree Zteve. West will be tough. TN is really putting together a tough staff. I'm glad Garner stayed in GA. The East could see a downturn if a few key players go Pro early. Next year should be fun, but I'm leary to get too optimistic!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Kathy it's ok to go CRAZY!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  63. Greg and I are being entertained by listening to Fbaum talk about Saban's behavior as "tiresome".

    ReplyDelete
  64. As of right now, I would say that us and MSU are battling for last in the West. But our staff and current talent could make this interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I think this staff is going to energize the players.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I have never been entertained by PF, that's why I quit listening 3 years ago.

    ReplyDelete
  67. sorry, someone did that earlier for #4 (Chris Shelling). i love me some McNeill. go bolts!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Monica,
Last week FB couldn't blow enough smoke about how great Saban was and what a remarkable job he had done in such a short time.

    ReplyDelete
  69. So now we need all these new coaches to go get us some recruits! And we need an O-line coach. I'm not too concerned with the defense. I think we had one of our best defenses under Chizik.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Scottie, that one went right over my head. Thanks for explaining.

    ReplyDelete
  71. with the huge amount of coaching talent coming into the SEC I am glad our new coaches can open up the areas in which we recruit....

we are going to have to pull players from all over to keep/get a high talent level....

    ReplyDelete
  72. Anonymous6:07 PM

Steve..we have a lot more potential problems at QB and WR than RB and OL.

Troop can teach WR fundamentals and that will help, but those guys still don't have even 4.5 speed and don't know how to seperate.

We have no proven QB. Our only chance is for someone to step up and improve greatly in the off season AND THEN improve further during the season.

The RBs are good SEC quality..not great. The OL can reload and have good starters with no depth. We will need an offense and WRs good enuogh to back up the defense and give the OL a chance to block. Outnumbered is outmanned

    ReplyDelete
  73. So are you pulling for Texas and BOOM tonight? Kickoff in an hour.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Cincy - I know! That's part of what makes it so entertaining. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  75. okay, I'm back on board as a fan of 2009.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Chizik, to me, has been the best defensive coordinator that we have had since Wayne Hall and Brother Oliver. Muschamp and Rhoads were both good ones, but Chizik seemed to be more of a balance between Muschamp and Rhoads styles. Chizik's defense didn't tend to give up the big plays that Muschamp did, but it definitely was more attacking than what we saw from Rhoads.

    ReplyDelete
  77. did anyone see they named Trooper 'Assistant Head Coach'? that's what Goldberg is reporting. isn't that what he was at OSU? dunno.

    ReplyDelete
  78. glad you're back PF. 90% or are you all in?

    ReplyDelete
  79. I will pretty much pull for whoever Ohio State is playing. For years the Big Ten thought they were the conference in college football. Teams like Ohio State and Michigan were suppose to be the schools. Now the Big 10 has to look up to the Pac 10, and the Pac 10 isn't at the SEC or Big 12 level.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Scottie, the assistant head coach title wouldn't surprise me. Troop is good enough to have been the selection for OC, so I would be glad to see him get an extra title to spice up his resume.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Anonymous6:13 PM

Ben Grubbs and Willie Anderson....GO RAVENS!!

    ReplyDelete
  82. We lived in Cincinnati for 10 years and I grew to hate OSU. All I heard was what a huge rivalry OSU-Michigan was. But they only talked about it for about 6 days a year! OSU fans are only slightly less obnoxious than Bama fans.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Thanks for being patient with me today. I just want to make 100% sure that the things I report are accurate.

    That's the HABOTN way.

    ReplyDelete
  84. I agree that Chiz was a great DC but that was also under the guidance of a great HC. The big question will be how well he can manage a DC. I have some concerns about our defense until that is settled.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Taylor is assistant head coach, yes.

    Main thread has been updated.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I appreciate that, Jay.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Anonymous6:17 PM

Mon, I heard the last 20 min of Fbomb also. Typical Fbomb...that caller was making very good points slammin' $abans awful sideline demeanor and PF brushes it off as "tiresome"? How about...saying "the camera shouldn't show closeups of his foul mouth". PF then closes the show early rather than address the annual $aban asst coach desertions comment.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Cincy - I'm in Huntington, WV - 2 hours east of Cincy and right on the Ohio River. I couldn't agree more. In case I haven't said it lately, WVU fans are more obnoxious than OSU and Bama fans combined. Yes, I know what I just said.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Zteve, if he's good enough for ChiZik then heZ good enough for meZ.

i hate ohio state. from eddie george to maurice clarett to ted ginn. every one of them. especially kirk herbstriet. the 'shoe' irks my soul. does that make sense?

    go cincy!

    ReplyDelete
  90. the year. not the school. that allegiance will never wane. I just wasn't sure if I was happy with the 5 days that 2009 had fed me.

I'm part of the 50% that Jay G speaks of.

Mon - I agree 100%. I was berated when we were there this past season.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Scottie B ... Go Bolts! San Diego Super Chargers!!!

    ReplyDelete
  93. What exactly does it mean to be an assistant HC? If the HC is sick or cant fulfill his responsibilities then the assist-HC is in charge?

    ReplyDelete
  94. the HABOTN will not be influenced by 'other sources'. you've got to do things the right way. thanks JGT.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Anonymous6:20 PM

Bolts are Dolts...I need Pitt to win so we can get our revenge.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Hoopie - I didn't hear him say the camera shouldn't show close up's of his mouth. While he didn't "go off" on Saban, he certainly registered his disapproval and said his behavior could cause problems or something like that. At least that's how I heard it. I thought it was a big concession considering Fbaums HUGE boy crush on Saban.

    ReplyDelete
  97. afternoon or early evening?

    ReplyDelete
  98. Was it Cam Cameron that made his assistant head coach head coach for a preseason game, just to make sure an emergency plan was in place?

    ReplyDelete
  99. he really is atleast attempting to created an offensive machine before anything else...i like, JJ must have also liked this good plan

    ReplyDelete
  100. Sik - Shouldn't that avatar be a bow tie?

    ReplyDelete
  101. AHC, to me, means more prestige and salary.

    Function? Probably none.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Anonymous6:24 PM

Jay..no problem. The Hotties enjoy filtering through rumor, etc. from other sites just to discuss it and get excited, but we totally respect and appreciate your accuracy. That's one reason we're here.

    ReplyDelete
  103. TIMEOUT. okie state is what 37th in recruiting...why are we freaking out if they are behind us in recruiting? ah yie yie

    ReplyDelete
  104. Anonymous6:32 PM

Mon...My fault, I didn't word that clearly. My point was that PF should have made a strong condemnation like "cameras not showing his foul mouth, etc", instead of brushing the behavior off as "tiresome".

I was really busy today and allocated any spare time to the Trooper watch. Only hooked up the PF link @ 6:30 EST after Mobilz mentioned it.

    ReplyDelete
  105. 114! (or is it 116 by now?) I think this bodes well for au. wde...

    ReplyDelete
  106. ahhh I understand now, Whoopie. Yes, you're right, but no way would I expect that of Fbaum. You're also right when you said earlier that the caller was making some excellent points. Especially when he said (and I paraphrase) 'what parent would want a coach getting in their kids face like Saban did that night'. Fbaum kept saying "yeah, Saban had a bad day" lol ya think

    ReplyDelete
  107. i do both kinds. don't think v.v. makes this one in a bowtie.

    ReplyDelete
  108. re: saban. if the worst thing i ever got from a coach was a cussing, my life would have been good.

    ReplyDelete
  109. wonder if Auburn could raid USC's defensive staff.

    ReplyDelete
  110. I think every new assistant is Assistant Head Coach. It reminds me of Monty Python's Life of Brian... "I'm Brian" "no, I'm Brian", "I'm Brian... and so's my wife"

At the end of the day...PF only has a mancrush for his own ratings. His real agenda is all about controlling emo and # of listeners.

Just turned on the Fiesta bowl pre-game. I can't believe FOX didn't make those 2 goobers get rid of the gangster pin stripe suits.

    ReplyDelete
  114. wow scottie what did you get other than a cussing?

    ReplyDelete
  115. aubie, one day i had to run sprints til a lineman beat me. 'nuff said?

    ReplyDelete
  116. why didn't you just slow down?

    ReplyDelete
  117. Anonymous6:45 PM

Coach cussing at practice.....happens every day.

Incessantly dog-cussing them during the game....embarassing and de-motivational.

    ReplyDelete
  118. i was new in town and didn't think i was getting the proper respect there in prattville. after a couple of guys fell out, i slowed down.

    ReplyDelete
  119. I'm so glad other Hotties share my total dislike of thuh ohio state university. My hate for that school is getting pretty close to the max.
    Go 'horns!

    ReplyDelete
  120. Why didn't you just run real slow and let him beat you on the first sprint?
If you got in a fight at practice, our coach would make the players run laps while holding hands.

    ReplyDelete
  131. You can make a 2nd FB page. You can call it Paranoid from Tucson.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete

Scott...I played at Prattville many years before you. Coaches caught a guy smoking a cigarette. He chose to run the "gauntlet" rather than quit the team. Coaches lined up 2 tacklers on every 5 yds in a line the length of the field. Gave the guy the ball and he got tackled every 5 yds for 200 yds. He couldn't make it.

OK...game prediction. Texas will score early without a lot of problems. If OSU can keep it close enough early, OSU will finally slow the UT offense and score some itself. If Boom makes good halftime adjustments, he can keep the freshman QB confused and limit OSU scoring. A lot has to happen for OSU to have a chance to win. UT 38...OSU 17

    ReplyDelete
  141. Of course I am! I have learned alot of different things these last couple of months just reading!

    ReplyDelete
  142. It must be a burden, Aubie.

    ReplyDelete

  147. Any news on some d coaches?

    ReplyDelete
  148. I've read some comments today calling for hesitancy toward the new staff based on the CTF experience. HOGWASH!!!! I know understand The Chizzle's plan and have zero complaints so far. Assemble the most phenomenal staff possible and produce a phenomenal football team. The difference between these guys and Franklin is the same as the difference between 1,000,000 and 10; the same as the difference between the whole phreaking universe and Tuscaloosa; day and night. These guys didn't sell their offense out of the back of their SUV, they sold it out on the field in the big boy leagues. And the thing is ... I don't think we are done yet.
