Tuesday chatter
1/13/09, NOONISH
Hey everyone. As Eddie noted in yesterday's thread, things have slowed a tad. It's January and The Football Hubbub has simmered to some degree -- though ESPN's Stephen A. Smith likes to keep it going.
(I think Smith would have better luck not including Charles Barkley in his argument, which is a good one. Then he goes with Barkley and it goes askew.)
Here are some other things we're discussing:
*Chaz Ramsey's medical situation -- and Auburn's awkward decision to cower from the criticism.
*Tracy Rocker is bringing a tough-guy attitude to the defensive front.
*To Griff's delight, Auburn appears to be making progress on its search for an OL coach.
*We'll have more as the day progresses.

dos good job brad
3 hi Dear Leader
Will with the quick fingers today.
Brad's football career depended upon the Arena league staying afloat. His chance lies with Canada now. Maybe the Blackmon's need a roommate.
#6 Horace Willis
7- Pat Sullivan
8 - Stanford Simmons
Top 10!What is Roof Going to Coach?
#9 Jeff Klein
10-Carlos Cheatum
#12 Jacob Allen
Don't cross the barrier. The soil is sour. The soul of a man's heart is stony...
Looks like Roof is going to oversee the defense ... and another assistant will handle secondary.
Jacob Allen brings back some memories. He had quite a following in Texas ...
So Roof will not directly coach a position?
Is John Thompson the guy to coach DB's?
crap! I missed 15- Mickey Zofko
That is interesting about Roof. Can he just not do the secondary. Wouldnt he be able to learn it from Chizik i would think...
Wasn't it Jacob Allen who flipped the ball over his shoulder to Duval for the TD at LSU in 99?
In my opinion, the secondary is going to need some serious coaching next year to overcome youth/inexperience/lack of quality depth.
Carlos Cheatum my favorite player for Auburn of all time. The hit that he layed on Reggie Cobb...Bone Crushing.
WERK
I'm also a lazy linker today. AU says he played in 4 home games in '99; doesn't mention LSU.
http://auburntigers.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/stats/1999-2000/plyr0000.html
Cobb-Webb of Tennessee- My all time favorite RB combo name.
Ok had to change my pic back..too disturbing.
What's disturbing, AU1, is that the Arizona Cardinals are one win from being in the "Super" Bowl.
All the better for Bmore!!
Woo Hoo!!
But yes that is a bit odd.
WERK--
found player participation list for '99 LSU game. Jacob Allen not there. Now you've left me to wonder who that was that flipped the ball to Duval
I could have sworn it was Jacob Allen.
the only reason I'll be watching the SB is to see Bruce
Baltimore won't make it past this weekend...
Sup Tarheeltiger...
I actually have to work a little today so I am off on my timing...
I was looking forward to an Early Aday game but to no avail.... pushed back....
Anyone have any update on our longshots at rec and running back...
C'Mon Eagles!
When is the A-Day game going to be held?
A-day = April 18
It was Jacob Allen.
http://www.trackemtigers.com/2008/12/9/688048/the-cigar-game
Agreed Rk- It was Jacob Allen.
ok, all this Raven/Eagles chatter has forced my hand. I don't care, but IF I did, I'd prefer to see the Steelers vs the Cardinals. We are HUGE Pens fans; Steelers not so much, but I've hated anything to do with Baltimore since my hero (and yes, he's a bammer) Bart Starr dueled it out with that U guy. I dislike ALL Philly teams (the lone exception being the 76ers with Dr. JAY, Bobby Jones, Mo Cheeks, Dawkins then Moses, Toney and was it Joe Caldwell? Can't remember).
And of course, Dansby & Hood are Cardinals.
Dear Leader- Byrce, the RB, is down to Auburn, Tennessee and USC for his final visit. We need to get it to have a 10% chance.
I prefer Eagles / Steelers. If the cardinals make it, they will fall flat on their face at the Super Bowl.
Eddie, what would keep Bryce from going to USC (if that's So. Cal and not So.Carolina)?
Nice work, WERK.
You might suggest to the OFFICIAL Auburn athletics web site that they correct their player participation list here:
http://auburntigers.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/stats/1999-2000/au03.html#GAME.PLY
Being from PA, I'd like to see a Steelers/Eagles matchup.
Re: Bryce
There's no doubt in my mind that I won't be eating any shoe.
Luv- Fight on Trojans would be the USC i'm talking about. It is going to be interesting to see what happens.
Also, according to Doug Segrest's blog, Randle did not and will not schedule a visit to Auburn. Oh well. Really wish we could have got him on campus.
Like I said, what would keep him from going to USC? As much as I hate USC, right now it seems to be the better program.
Eddie-
OUCH! Randle was one I hoped we had a slim shot at. Now we apparently have no shot at Randle, i.e. just like Brown.
Agreed Luv- USC is the one school that can also be called Running Back U, except with multiple national championships and consistantly in the Top 5 lately. Playing time would be my guess at this point...but of course with Ben Tate expected to go in the 2nd to 4th round if he went pro this year, I suppose we are loaded at the position :).
Tarheel- Bryan Mathews of rivals still gives Auburn a decent chance at landing a visit. Wait and see on that one also.
Yeah, I think we're good at RB. But, I sure hope Trooper can get us at least ONE good WR. We need one!
We need multiple good WR's.
I'd be happy with one good one at this point. Did we ever find out why Slaughter left?
Luv, Eddie, et al-
Please go get us a few 5* recruits.
I simply must close my HABOTN window if I want any chance to get home in time for supper. I'll check back when I get home. WAR EAGLE!!!
what is everyones feeling on Cotton?
Dustin,
I find pure cotton a tad irritating and prefer a blend with synthetics personally.
Oh, you mean the football player with the Dad who won't shut up!?! My bad...
I like the feel of cotton, it's soft and comfortable.... especially brushed cotton.
I have heard the higher the thread count the softer the cotton is. Is this true?
Cotton McKnight combined with Pepper Brooks = the greatest broadcast team ESPN 8 (The Ocho) has ever known and is known for the immortal quote "It's time to separate the wheat from the chaff, the men from the boys, the awkwardly feminine from the possibly Canadian".
Cotton McKnight: Looks like it's gonna be a two-on-one, a manage ? trois of pain.
Pepper Brooks: Usually you pay double for that kind of action, Cotton.
Oh the Ocho i cant get enough.
Cotton McKnight: "Ladies and gentlemen, I have been to the Great Wall of China, I have seen the Pyramids of Egypt, I've even witnessed a grown man satisfy a camel. But never in all my years as a sportscaster have I witnessed something as improbable, as impossible, as what we've witnessed here today!"
Don't forget Cotton Weary who made a major comeback in life. After being wrongfully accused, convicted, and incarcerated for the death of Maureen Prescott, Cotton was released from prison after "new" circumstances arose and a jury overturned his verdict. He went on to host a popular L.A. talk show but was murdered in his apartment a short time later.
I know you not supposed to do this but I am bringing this post forward because I would like to hear everyone opinion.
I just finishing reading the article written in the Mobile paper concerning Chaz Ramsey written by Evan Woodberry. I must say that i am appalled at the discription of what went on between the training/coaching staff and the instruction set for by Ramseys surgeon. It was completely irresponsible of this people to alter any of the instructions as set for by his doctor. Who is in fact part of the Auburn medical team. To not have complete understanding of how to proceed and treat just leave me with my mouth open. It only makes me feel more comfortable with the fact5 that this people are now gone from the program. Nall’s excuses are unacceptable. He needed to completely understand what was happening rather than just making suspension decisions. I can only hope that if Chaz is cleared to play again that he will come back to our program. He should have a clean slate with coach Chiz. It would be good for him to have a fresh start with our program.
Woo HOO!
TB,
You did only get one side of the story. It may be true, but it may be greatly exaggerated as well. It's hard to say since one group is pretty bound by HIPAA laws.
Griff, did you post that Cracker comment on blogcritics?
I would like to hear more on the Ramsey story before i point the blame at anyone. That being said, i never really liked Coach Nall so it isnt hard for me to believe that he did what he is being accused of.
Parade with hey bails?
Dang Hippie laws get us every time!!!
I am way behind on the threads because I am working, but is there an 8 line rule? If so, I have problems. I can knock out 8 lines in my introductory paragraph on occasion.
As for Cotton, or any other specific player, I don't get too excited. I look more at the overall signing class than a specific player.
Ohio State has more talent than SEC schools? Well, that is facinating. They should get some of that talent to join their football team. The beat downs might not be as regular.
Mr. Sensible: Negative. Not familiar w/ blogcritics. Is there a "Griff" posting there or something?
There is no 8 line rule.
grrr
Any takers on what Bruce Springsteen & the E-Street Band play at the Super Bowl halftime show?
TB- Goodlett did not perform the surgery, it was Either Lemack or Andrews. The story leads you to believe that Goodlett was the Doctor who performed, but he doesn't perform surgery, especially on backs. That is just an interesting tidbit that was omitted from the story.
Sensi,
Since they have just 12 mins, I'll assume one song from the new album coming out later this month, and I'll guess Born To Run & The Promised Land.
perhaps its a mininum 8 lines. i personally dont know i am new to this little soiree and have not been mailed a copy of the by-laws.
1 line
2 line
3 line
4 line
5 line
6 line
7 line
8 line
9 line
Oh well- I'm a rebel and law breaker.
Sensi,
I bet Born in the USA is one since he is releasing it and one of his new songs free on Guitar Hero WT end of this month.
RK,
I can see the open with Born to Run.
I doubt U.S.A. makes it and that's probably a good thing. Maybe something from the new album and close with Glory Days?
Dustin,
I'd be real surprised if he plays that considering he hates it.
Plus, if you read and listen to the verse lyrics of that song, it's not exactly pump up the crowd material.
Then again, neither is Atlantic City, but the full band version rocks with Roy on the keys.
I'm 99% sure that Born In The USA will not be played. He hardly plays it live at all.
My reason behind the Promise Land being played is he's a big Obama supporter and that seemed like a good song to relate to that.
I'm also 99% sure something from the new album will be played and Born To Run is always a good guess as it shows up in every show at some point.
Nall is not bound by HIPPA now and it reads like he was interviewed. I just cannot believe regarldless of who the surgeon was that there was no more conversations going on with the training staff and the primary care surgeon. It gives the appearance that no communications took place between any of the and it definitely leaves CTT in the cold.
If Chaz was one of our top lineman coming back in 2008 and he is injured I would want to know all aspects of what was happening. Nall leaves you with the impression he was clue less.
al.com reported
Emmit Randle, Rueben Randle's father, told The News this morning that Randle never scheduled a visit to Auburn.
SO we are to belive a coach made this up for the heck of it?
Born in the USA is definately a misunderstood song. It has nothing pro-USA in it.
Welcome to the HABOTN, Dustin.
They are just giving me a hard time about the 8 line thing. :-)
Well i was wrong go figure.
The tracks are the 1975 classic 'Born to Run' and new song 'My Lucky Day'. The bad news is that they won't be out until the 27th January. The songs will celebrate the launch of Bruce's new album called Working on a Dream.
RK, as long as he doesn't play "Mary's Place" I'll be okay.
TB,
Your original post was mostly down on the trainers for how they handled it, when I responded that you have only one side of the story due to HIPAA laws, you follow up with Nall's comments.
Nall's side has nothing to do with the doctors and trainers.
Sensi,
I didn't like "Mary's Place" either, until I heard it live. It's a much better song live.
Let's shoot for a campfire at 3 p.m. CST.
That'll let you EST people participate before you get into evening mode.
RK,
I haven't heard much of the new stuff. What's it like?
Why thank you Mon, so glad to be here. Where is our infamous leader at?
Why is it only Auburn being criticized??? Tennessee didn't hire a black coach! Clemson didn't! I am sick of it. Just because we are in the state of Alabama. Turner Gill would have been great, but at this point, I am much happier with the hiring of Chizik. Chizik has a lot of experience at big time programs in the SEC and Big12. Its a totally different ball game then where Buffalo plays.
How about this?
Born to Run
My Lucky Day
Promise Land
Glory Days
Thanks for the submissions all.
Campfire. Alright!!!!
Born to Run- love it
Born in USA- it's tolerable
Land of Hope & Dreams is a great "live" song but would eat up all the time
Please none of that pop crap with Courteney Cox
I'm guessing we won't hear American Skin
Dag nab it. I can't do the campfire. Maybe it will still be going when I get home.
Jay G. Tate,
Your thoughts on the Bruce Springsteen & E-Street Band halftime show?
Great live version of Atlantic City.
OK call me stupid but what is a campfire and who is in charge of the marshmallows today?
Sensi,
Did you get "Magic" that came out in 2007? That was a really good album and flashed back more to his late 70's sound.
I haven't heard anything other than the two songs that have been released off the new album and the awesome song he did for the move The Wrestler.
TarHeel,
I was at the show he debuted "American Skin". It was at Phillips Arena in 2000.
I do like the Magic record, RK.
"Better Days" is another song I would think is possible for the halftime show.
I just figure one of the songs will be an upbeat tune that can reflect his thoughts on the new president.
Dustin,
Campfire is a fast-paced live chat.
Go to Chatroll and sign up (it's free) and then either search for HABOTN Campfire or wait until Jay G. posts it on the front of the blog.
Springsteen: Respected by me. I do not listen to his music.
Thanks Sensi
RK,
I won't be surprised if the new Pres. doesn't make a visit himself.
Dustin,
Welcome on Board.
Please send a check for $19.95 to:
Jay G. Tate Lunch Fund

Jay,
Do i get the super secret decoder card with my payment?
I would like to Campfire ... but sadly I will be at a meeting.
Enjoy, you kids.
And remember the words of Lance Armstrong.
"Well, I guess if a person never quit when the going got tough, they wouldn't have anything to regret for the rest of their life. But good luck to you. I'm sure this decision won't haunt you forever."
WERK- Magic never grew on me. I love most of his other stuff even though Bruce and I are political polar opposites.
ok, I'm bailing again. I simply must do some work and not converse with Hotties all day, though the latter is MUCH preferred.
I believe Springsteen will turn 60 later this year.
Just got out of a meeting and will unfortunately miss the campfire. Flipping security....
Regarding the Ravens...please keep saying they have no shot....it has been working very well so far. Thank you!!
What's with the has-beens they've been getting for the Super Bowl halftime shows lately? Not that I keep up with Top 40 music, I was just wondering.
Has beens?
We must have a difference of opinion on what that definition should be.
However to answer your question, the SuperBowl has decided to go with "safer" acts since the Janet Jackson/Justin Timberlake incident back in 2002 or so.
I wouldn't consider Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen and the Rolling Stones "has beens" though.
Luv,
Two words: Janet Jackson.
Dustin, a campfire is, as Mr. Sensible said, a fast-paced real time chat - like chatrooms. It's extremely difficult to keep up (for me anyway). I watched one for about a minute. That's all I could handle.
Mr. Sensible - that's what I figured.
Well, I was discussing this with a friend, who from contemporary music can you get who will be "safe" as a choice?
Dave Matthews Band was all we could come up with.
New thread is up, by the way.
sorry, WarEagleRK, I didn't scroll up to see your answer. And, yes, we do have a differing opionion.
Since over the air rock radio is dead, it's hard to know who currently is safe, because there is a severe lack of mainstream rock bands.
How about the Fresh Michael and DJ Jazzy Mobile?
And what would be wrong with DMB? They appeal to a wide audience - much more so than Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen.
Luv,
So has been = older?
Because the artists I mentioned are still successful and not leaning on their past glory by releasing and performing new music. (The Stones might be the exception to that, but they still release new music, but mostly play the older stuff live.)
I would clasify a has been artist as someone like the current versions of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Van Halen and others who go out there, play their hits and go home without ever changing anything up or adding something different to the show...and most of the time not using anywhere close to an original line up.
I have no problem with DMB, I'm going to see them in Nashville in April.
However to say they have a much wider appeal than a Springsteen is an overstatement.
Dave has a huge and loyal audience, but I think you underesitmate the power of the Boss.
WERK- I Agree with you 200%
case closed here; everyone migrate to the new thread
War EagleRK, I've never liked Bruce Springsteen, so he never had any power over me.
I stand corrected on the definition of has-been. I don't keep up with music like I did when I was younger, so I don't know what older artists are doing these days.
Oh god...talk about a has been. DMB hasn't put out anything relevant or enjoyable since Listener Supported. Even some of the live albums have gotten predictable and boring. And before you call me an old fuddy duddy, I can remember paying $8 to see them in Auburn at the indoor arena.
My vote would be for somebody like Ben Harper or the Foo Fighters.
Just check the annual touring rankings from last year.
The Boss was # 3, DMB was # 11, Tom Petty was # 13.
Ben Harper is awesome, I saw him and his new band in December.
OK, guys, I have no business commenting on music. I don't follow it at all anymore. I never heard of Listener Supported. So, please accept my apologies for being ignorant.
I have heard of Ben Harper, though! LOL
I say we stay on Bryce Brown till he says no!
