Hey everyone. It's National Signing Day. You know what that means? It's ON.
THE LATEST
(11:30) DE Terrance Coleman, WR LaVoyd James and DL Nick Fairley -- all of Williamson High fame -- have signed with Auburn. That bumps the Tigers' 2009 class to 28 players.
OTHER THINGS OF INTEREST
- (11:18 a.m.) DT Jamar Travis of W.S. Neal High in (East) Brewton has signed with Auburn.
- (10:40 a.m.) LB Harris Gaston of Bessemer Academy has signed with Auburn. He'll emerge as an outside guy with power.
- (10:25 a.m.) ATH Robert Cooper of Daphne High has signed with Auburn. He is expected to "gray shirt" this season and join the team in January.
- (10:10 a.m.) TB Dontae Aycock and DB Taikwon Paige have signed with the Tigers.
- (9:55 a.m.) DE/DT Nosa Eguae of suburban Ft. Worth, Texas, has signed. Read about him here: Truth sets Texas DE free - to sign with Auburn
- (9:30 a.m.) WR Anthony Gulley of Brantley High has signed.
- (9:25 a.m.) WR DeAngelo Benton of Bastrop, La. (also of Hargrave Military Academy) has signed with the Tigers. I consider that a completely crazy development. He's supposed to be a big-time wideout, but he hasn't played organized ball since November 2007. Either way, this is a significant NSD coup.
- (9:15 a.m.) WR Emory Blake of Austin, Texas, has signed with Auburn. That is a major development because Blake was the most important "bubble" prospect on the Tigers' list.
With Blake and now DeAngelo Benton signing on with Auburn today, it's clear that offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn and his offense has captured the imagination of offensive prospects. - Here is your up-to-the-minute list of signees:
- LB Eltoro Freeman (already enrolled)
- TB Onterio McCalebb (already enrolled)
- TE Philip Lutzenkirchen
- LB Donald "Dee" Ford
- DB Daren Bates
- OL Andre Harris
- WR Travante Stallworth
- QB Clint Moseley
- DB Reggie Taylor
- RB Brandon Jacobs
- DB Izauea Lanier
- LB Jonathan Evans
- QB Tyrik Rollison
- OL John Sullen
- DT Josh Jackson (of Gainesville, Ga. -- new to the scene)
- WR Emory Blake
- DB Demond Washington
- WR Anthony Gulley
- WR DeAngelo Benton
- DE/DT Nosa Eguae
- DB Taikwon Paige
- TB Dontae Aycock
- ATH Robert Cooper
- LB Harris Gaston
- DT Jamar Travis
- DE Terrance Coleman
- WR LaVoyd James
- DT Nick Fairley
- LB Eltoro Freeman (already enrolled)

Whoops, I made it sound like there was a new thread....sorry folks!
any word on the phillips, kid?
Fairley was an assignment for Willis. He is thought of highly. I also talked with HS coaches here in Mobile and they tell me Willis was not anything special. I guess him not getting Fairley shows why we have struggled in the MOB. Remember Saban/Thompson cleaned our plow when Coach Whitt vacated the area. Before we had a good run here in Mobile.
Chiz just made a big batch ,,,, koolaid anyone?
Here here
I think there's a strong regional bias in recruit rankings. I believe the SEC is the strongest conference, and the PAC 10 is a close second. In the conference rankings for incoming classes the SEC has almost 50% more points than the PAC-10, which is virtually tied with the ACC, Big 12 and Big 10. I don't believe it. The ACC finishing third is a joke, and further shows the bias (unusually) toward southern recruits.
I am really impressed with this recruiting class. If Malzahn comes even close to my expectation on offense, we will be a very solid football team next season.
I am not sure whether the Pac 10 or the Big 12 is the second best conference. Ole Miss makes me believe the Big 12 isn't all that. I do no one thing. The Big 10 is no longer one of the top conferences, at least not in the top 3.
Almost RR time?
** Rueben Randle, WR, Bastrop, LA (announced he is signing with LSU!)
not sure if this link on Oku has already been posted earlier...
http://www.govolsxtra.com/news/2009/feb/04/source-oku-phillips-likely-sign-auburn/
Ah, okay. So its done. LSU is getting quite the class
Wasn't Kelly and Dre supposed to announce at 2 cent? Any news on them?
Agree, LSU is loading up.
Steve, I agree the Big 10 isn't strong. My concern with Scout's rankings is they lead one to expect the SEC to be at least 50% better than any other conference. We're good, but that's a stretch by any measure.
Everyone should read the link Jay provided on Eguae. He seems like a very smart kid and Rocker seems to have done a great job. This is opposed to coaches that blow smoke up kids butts about the see them going to the NFL before they even stepped onto a college field.
AJC is running the Oku story as well.
Report: Tenn. commit Oku to sign with Auburn
http://www.ajc.com/sports/content/shared-blogs/ajc/cfbrecruit/entries/2009/02/04/tennessee_commi_1.html
Every time I refresh the page, I get a screen that says "this page has secure and nonsecure items. Do you want to show unsecure items? Yes No"
Anyone know a way to turn that OFF????? It's maddeningly irritating.
Thanks.
hey guys & gals - i've been out of pocket in planning meetings and have to go back in 25 minutes so i haven't been able to keep up. what are the biggest surprises of the day?
Holy smokes!!! I didn't expect Oku to sign. If that is true, it is huge. From what I have read of him, he seems ideal for Malzahn's offense, a do it all type back.
My concern with Oku is his stated desire to see what kind of line he'd be running behind. My fear is he waited until after signing day to see who signed the best offensive line prospects for his class.
I almost don't want Oku... it seems like it guarantees at least one highly touted running back whining about lack of touches a couple of years from now.
Of course, if Oku wins the Heisman then I will be quick to come back and erase this post.
gatiger, the biggest surprise has to have been us getting Benton, the big name receiver that was headed to LSU.
Second biggest is getting Blake Emory.
If we get Oku, that will definitely top both of these.
Benton, blake , and aycock are the big signs to me, gatiger.
Raymond Cotton to Ole Miss

On The Wire, Oku said he is taking his time and won't make a decision until late Feb. He said TN, Auburn and Syracuse are still on his list and he did not eliminate the idea of opening up to others.

Flesh Wounds, switch to firefox or chrome is the only ideas I have for you. Whenever I use a computer with IE I get that message.
Aycock is big, but it is one I thought we had a very good chance at. I thought we were out of the running with Benton and that Emory was possible, but not likely.
I honestly didn't want Cotton. His dad annoys me. We would have to pony up a scholarship and a dorm room for ray jr and ray sr.
Toney Douglas Cotton
Cotton to Ole Miss: You knew that when Moseley was offered a scholarship.
Flesh Wounds...
Get a Mac...
Sincerely,
Fake Steve Jobs
How many players is Ole Miss gonna sign today...50?
Do What-
I saw the link on AJC-- that would be HUGE
I think Ole Miss is going to have an "Varsity" and "JV" team!
Nutt is working it.
"You'll love my nuts" -
Slap Chop Guy
The 35 OM recruits need to consider that only 25 can sign.
I forgot about Dre... What's the word on him and KK
I am sorry, but I really love Nutt:)
FSJ,
Why is Alabama ranked #7 on ESPNU?
That's low in my opinion.
Jox reporting KK to Bama. Dre 99% Bama with 1% Texas.
Jay G, What time for Chizik's comments?
Hoopie,
Something tells me Ole Miss' class is gonna look much different in August..
Ole Miss will have to reduce that list.
There seems to be the distinct possibility that we lose our reputation of having the most talented crappy receivers in the nation.
Wow they signed KK and dre?? I lost my buzz
Houston Nutt is all like, "Well, good recruits have never said 'Yes' to me before. I wasn't exactly prepared for this!"
I just heard that a JUCO kid out of Cali named Kevin Hart had a press conf and committed to AU.
Just kidding, do you guys remember this kid from last yr who committed to Cal in a big presser and turns out he had never even talked with Cal.
I see many of the Ole Miss recruits seeing grey soon.
Doug and Josh (Roundtable) are saying Kendall Kelly reportedly has an unknown hat underneath the Bama hat on his table.
Clemson?
Kevin Hart was a very sad story. He really embarrassed himself and a lot of other people. Check out this video. He really didn't lie. He said he has decided he is playing at the University of California. Apparently it was just a problem with California agreeing with the concept.
Chizik live blog begins at 2 p.m. CST.
re: KK- just another bammer hat
I think Dabo was pushing for KK wasn't he? Clemson might have him.
How stupid was that! KK to Bama, surprise, surprise, surprise
KK did look very nice in his suit.
KKelley just announced. I know this only because I read the banner below. As unintelligible as he is, he might as well have been ordering more pizzas to Brad Bradshaw's house.
Dre's up next. Maybe he'll let his son pick the hat for him.
New thread up with the press conference blog.
In the tackiest announcement of the day, Dre Kirkpatrick is signing with ... the Atlanta Braves.
