Auburn def. Tennessee, 78-77 (men)
Welcome to Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum, where Auburn is playing host to Tennessee.
- FINAL
Auburn 78, Tennessee 77. Barber hit a lay-in with five seconds left. Auburn botched an in-bound pass, but Waller grabbed the ball amid a major scramble. Tennessee was caught in transition, so to speak, because it thought a fast break was starting. Waller found Barber under the basket. Tennessee's final heave, from Prince's hand, was off to the right as the buzzer sounded. - TO @:16, 2nd half (media timeout)
Tennessee leads, 77-76. Lucas Hargrove is at the line; two shots. - FOURTH TO @ 3:32, 2nd half (media timeout)
Tennessee leads, 73-69. J.P. Prince has kept UT moving by rolling into the lane and creating opportunities. He drew fouls on back-to-back trips. Barrett is at the line for two shots right now. - THIRD TO @ 6:05, 2nd half (media timeout)
Auburn leads, 67-66. We have a ballgame here. As they've been doing since the first minutes, the two teams match each other at every turn. It's basically Barrett against Tyler Smith. I hope you can watch it. The game is entertaining for sure. - SECOND TO @ 11:34, 2nd half (media timeout)
Tennessee leads, 62-61. The Vols built a six-point lead, but Auburn has climbed back in it. Barrett has been the savior so far. He has hit several big shots. Also, Tennessee has no way to guard Barber on the backside ... so Auburn keeps lobbing passes over the front-side defender and Barber lays it in. - FIRST TO @ 15:08, 2nd half (media timeout)
Auburn leads, 54-53. Tennessee took its first lead at 15:25, but Barrett just gave Auburn another lead. The Tigers' zone defense is not working. It's man-to-man or bust at this point. - Thanks to Kristina and "Earl" for rolling by to say hello at halftime.
- HALFTIME
Auburn leads, 43-41. Good game. One thing -- Johnnie Lett is on crutches (after injuring his ankle earlier this week) and doesn't look healthy at all. I don't think he'll be back anytime soon.
Quick Change is the halftime entertainment today. I'm staying for this one. - FOURTH TO @ 3:36, 1st half (media timeout)
Auburn leads, 40-32. These two teams play along with each other. If one is hot, the other gets hot. When that passion tails off, the other team follows along. Interesting to watch. - THIRD TO @ 7:56, 1st half (media timeout)
Auburn leads, 29-24. Yes, they just played nearly three minutes without a basket. The rims are back to their usual circumference. - SECOND TO @ 10:40, 1st half (media timeout)
Auburn leads, 29-24. The Tigers scored on its first six consecutive possessions since the last stoppage. So did Tennessee. I wouldn't say it's poor defense per se; both teams are hitting challenged/difficult shots. - FIRST TO @ 15:11, 1st half (media timeout)
Auburn leads, 15-6. Great start for the Tigers. Barrett already has six points. - Your Auburn starters
PG -- DeWayne Reed
SG -- Tay Waller
SF -- Rasheem Barrett
F -- Lucas Hargrove
F/C -- Vot Barber
This is the first game Tez Robertson hasn't started since the spring of 2005.

What is One Alex?
How's the Crowd?
Crowd: 6,000 or so.
I'm disappointed... Pearl doesn't have on that Sherbert Orange sport coat today.
Tez out of the starting lineup for the first time in his career. Not sure why.
I heard he was late showing up today...
there is no excuse for that.... and 1 one a 3? c'mon
Barrett is on fire....
Did Reed really just take a 3 from the center court Logo?
wow
Signed in to tell Dr. HABOTN that the deadline was March 1 but see someone already beat me to it! We usually wait to the last minute too because it is a lot of money going out the door. Always think about changing my mind but don't have the guts!!
Did someone install oversized rims at BEMC before this game? So far it's been like throwing tennis balls in a swimming pool for both teams.
Au leads 29-24, 10:40 remaining in first half.
we've been buying tickets for 30 years and probably been in the same seats for 20. Lost my seniority when they changed over to pay per seat so I won't be changing seats anytime soon.
Pearl wears the Orange sherbet coat for UK and Vandy.
Against Auburn, he wears the I'm With Stupid T-shirt, pointing toward the Auburn bench.
Boy, it's fun being off the Lebo bandwagon. I can be a lot snarkier.
yo yo yo
with hands like that... Hargrove should think about playing WR
Reed just looks out of control on the court....
I don't like this waiting till after signing day stuff. Really takes a toll on me waiting on Oku.
D. Reed is always out of control.
Not necessarily every minute, but he's one step away.
Just dropping in to say hello and War Eagle!!! Go Tigers, beat those Vols. Trying to catch up on chores and errands since Signing Day. It is 63 degrees in Hsv right now, so we are heading out to enjoy this warm weather. I'll check in for updates via the iPhone, so thanks for all the updates Jay GT.
Hello hotties. War Eagle. I'm sick today, so I've got nothing else to do. What's you guys excuse? LOL
Y'all watching this on TV?
South Alabama is on TV up here but no Auburn :-(
RayCom game here... you should be able to get video online NoVa
Yes,
Racom sports. CW21 in Birmingham
Apparently AU basketball has met pre-season expectations of 26% of fans...
Thanks, found it on Yahoo
If nominate Auburn - Ya think Gordon Ramsay will do "Basketball Program Nightmares"
That was a stupid move...
Interesting game at least.
Grabbing that shirt was funny.
Todays Games sponsored by Palm Beach Tan....
Lebo VS Pearl - Who can out "Man Tan" the other???
Yes it is...
Good back and forth...
Is that what Lebo does with his time instead of dealing with Media and out on speaking engagements and selling the program?
Quick Change was a so-so movie, with great performances by Bill Murray and Randy Quaid.
CPF!!!
Big shot by Tay Waller right there.
Auburn leads, 76-75. One minute remaining.
Smith scores on a reverse layup.
UT leads 77-76 with 39 seconds remaining.
First time I've been able to see a b-ball game this year. It's been entertaining.
We really need this one. Please. Something.
C'mon Hargrove... we need you to hit these 2 FT's!!
entertaining game
Free throw, I don't like the odds.
ok.... just hit this one
BRICK x 2!!!!
sheesh....
We should change the name of those to Expensive Throws
Enough entertainment - Just WIN!!
How do you miss both down by one? AHHHH!
Auburn Wins!!!
GREAT!!! GREAT look inside to Barbour!!!
Very entertaining game! It was sloppy on both sides... but, a much needed win for this team.
Congrats to the players!
REALLY lucky on that pass. But a good win.
Exciting game!
wow, good win. We haven't had that good of a win in a long time. Like since last year's Bama game.
Wow Jay looks like it was a great game! And to think I was going to suggest that you live blog the equestrian event today instead. You know Auburn is #1 in the country!
JGT - Great job, and Thanks for the 'cruit updates!
Just think, if we could shoot free throws ... we would not have had such an exiting finish...

Is that one of those blessing in disguise type things, DL?
AUMom gets the featured quote.
Timely and funny.
Wow! Perhaps I should take naps for all of AU's remaining games. I rarely nap, but was overcome by profound narcolepsy.
WEG- we've had our seats for 25 years or so, despite the fact I threw the renewals away twice. Mrs THT found them in the trash and sent the money in to AU.
D.Miller - the wii on Valentine's is STILL for Christmas. So you should get her something for Valentine's also.
(This advice from someone who doesn't do anything for that silly Feb. "hallmark holiday")
And with this game Oku should be able to make his decision haha only if it were that easy
D.Miller
and you're right, not the Vacuum cleaner.
Save that for Feb.17.
Whooo Hoooo...War Eagle everyone! That was a fun game!
I forgot to look at what our free throw percentage was before I left but it seemed like it was much better. At least in the first half.
Hope we didnt make you miss too much of Quick Change, Jay G.
WAR EAGLE!! HAHAHA!!
Doc... you're NOT helping the cause here man... I can't afford a wii AND something else... I'm a state employee...
How did we get the ball back after missing those free throws with 16 seconds left?
AUMom's advice works 90% of the time. It's the irrational 10% I worry about.
If you have an irrational one, I sincerely hope you know that already.
You should know how to avoid disaster.
I'm in the 90% group ... all the way to the other end of the spectrum.
Short set of rules for women's presents
1. No electrical plugs
2. Good chocolate gets you the moon.
3. Roses are lovely; flowers are always appreciated.
4. NOT your mother's perfume or Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, et all
5. Beautiful lingerie is one thing; Ho-ware is something else.
6. If you screwed up in a major way, one present (minus abject apologies) is not getting you anywhere.
7. Sweet words and smiles get you more than you know.
"Ho-ware"....hee hee!
Nice to see the guys win one. I am not a bball fan, but I still like to see Auburn win, no matter the sport.
JG It's more like rational 90% of the time than 90% of the women. I've yet to see a woman that didn't have something of an irrational streak. You're very lucky if you have one.
i had to tivo the game b/c of wifey obligations. just finished watching.
nice win by the Tigers. now if the baseball team can take 2 of 3 next month from the Vols this would be the perfect year to live here in knoxville. well....you know what i mean.
two random observations:
1. it sure didn't look like 6,000 peeps on tv. sad excuse for a crowd. it's freakin' tennessee!
2. quantez not starting for 1st time in 3 years catches my attention. not sure why, though. i have a soft spot in my heart for the guy.
I've known Wifey since 1992 and I've never once seen her irrational. She's highly valued.
6k may have been high. Official attendance was 6,321 ... but I suspect it was closer to 5k.
I can't imagine being David Oku. Imagine how many coaches have time to irritate the crap out of him.
Valentine's Day for guys is like playing Duke at Cameron Indoor.
You can't win.
You're up by 3 with 10 seconds to go and have the ball.
You're still gonna lose.
JayG
Sorry you couldn't make the event today at the stadium ... nice deal ... lot of great stories.
I like your list, AUMom. I guess I need to return the electrically lighted ho-ware.
Don't return that, astatguy. Just give it to her for Halloween.
Stat... that is a perfect gift for a random Saturday night!
Gov Jet - unless of course the opponent is UNC.
Then it's pretty close to 50/50 at Cameron.
fsj, best opening remark ever...great win by au. still holding out for the nit.
wowzerzz
sometimes, it's all you got.
Clemson hasn't heard about Duke being special. They turned them around 74-47.
Who wants enchiladas?
I'll take an enchilada - extra jalapenos.
A couple of days ago I repeated a rumor I heard that Ziemba was beefing back up and was over 300 pounds (he played last year at about 285). The rumor was confirmed today. I think we're getting back to Auburn football.
I was speaking to someone today that said Bryce was toyinbg with going directly to the CFL..
Someone please tell me this is NOT TRUE and this kid is smarter than that...
Bryce's agent, I mean his adviser, has been blabbering that CFL nonsense.
that is nuts...
Now if he is going to get $3 million... all the power too him...
BUT
Who would pay money for unproven results... wait never mind,,, the stimulus package did pass congress...
BTW, DL, about your clothing line. Is it Bounty, Brawny, or Wal-Mart? In this economy, I'm looking to save some money next time I purchase some new clothes.
Just a little perspective... the stimulus package is about 900 billion. we have about 300 million Americans... so every American now owes $3000.00... So I have 4 in my house, which is $12,000.00 in additional debt just for my house. What is your share? starts to get scary when you think about it in those terms...
Rice Paper...
It’s editable...
Sorry,, you took me there...
Dear Leader-
Bryce's agent was blabbering from a stance of ignorance. As an intelligent Hottie informed us the other day, CFL teams, yes entire TEAMS, have a salary cap of $4.2 million. So chances of Mr. Brown becoming an instant millionaire above the 49th parallel are about the same as a Korean's chances above the 38th.
ahhh,,, some reason. Maybe our teams need that kind of cap....
stat,
so Ziemba is back up over 300? Sweet! How's his knee rehab coming along?
I wonder if we could impose that kind of cap on $pUAT?
forget his knee, are ziemba's hearing aids working? "the snap was on second sound , dammit!"
Pain can blow your concentration, not to mention a screwed up offense. A healthy Ziemba will be AUsome.
true 'nuff, nova.
WOW! Anyone watching the Memphis/Gonzaga game? That would be an awesome atmosphere to play a game in...
those rims sound loose...
Is that game in Spokane D. Miller? I don't see any Gonzaga logos on the floor.
yes... in Spokane
This has nothing to do with Auburn, or anything about sports, but it's too funny not to share.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txqiwrbYGrs
Barkely - Greg and I just died laughing over this. Too funny. I'm posting it to my Facebook.
AUMom - Love the front page quote.
Is this real life?
Haha
I know! That is just too funny. He could win money with that video on one of those goofy vid shows.
Omnica, I expect your sister and my daughter will each be getting beads from the same parade.
Oh yeah??? I'm hoping getting beads at that parade is different than getting in them nawlins. :-)
I once recalled a trip to the dentist when I was very young. Suddenly I recalled a strange feeling that I had when I was very young. It was then I realized how tragic it was that I couldn't appreciate a good buz when I was young. I suppose you have to mature a bit to appreciate it.
Given the locale and that it's my daughter, I certainly hope so.
G'night folks. Waking up before 6a and running quite a few miles makes a gatiger right tired.
Good evening to the Hotties. I am punishing myself by watching Memphis and Gonzaga.
Either Memphis is really good, or Gonzaga is really bad.
Tennessee fans are saying today's loss was the worst of the Pearl era.
Ok, Gonzaga is really bad.
Guess Lebo saved his job for one more game as he was actually able to grab victory from the jaws of defeat.
Gonzaga = not good
Memphis = UNLVesque defense
Memphis is definitely playing D tonight. Tyrik Evans is diaper dandy.
A question: if Lebo is late to the game, what happens?
he gets an extension....
Hair extensions?
nail
D-Miller ... I think you'll get your wish ... need to make a wish list for successors.
I've wished for a lot of things lately... you gotta be more pacific
New coach ...
gotcha... I'm workin' on a list... Taking JGT's list in mind as well. I like the Sutton mention he made on the radio the other day.
1 - Anthony Grant (VCU)
2 - Brad Stephens (Butler)
3 - Sean Miller (Xavier)
4 - Brian Gregory (Dayton)
5 - Travis Ford (UMass)
6 - Scott Sutton (Oral Roberts) [although may be a year too early]
7 - Brad Brownell (Wright St)
8 - Keno Davis (Drake) [may need a year or two more seasoning]
8 - Gib Arnold (asst @ USC)
9 - Jim O'Brien
O'Brien's the best coach on that list ... T. Ford is now at Ok. STate, which would be funny since we looted them for football
Miller is not gettable.
I don't think Grant is, either.
The others, I don't know if they are or not.
I doubt Grant would consider it... probably not Stephens or Miller either...
I forgot Ford was at OkSU, scratch...
So, in reality start the list with Gregory and Sutton...
O'Brien is the best coach, but has been out of coaching for a while due to the coaching restrictions he was placed under after the indiscretions at tOSU... I believe the restrictions were lifted this year or this past year (he may be coaching at some small school now)...
Keno is interesting, he's done well at Drake... but he's only been a head coach for 1 or 2 years period...may be too soon.
I was in Knoxville the night o'brien coached cliff out of his pants.
i was impressed.
Found this little quote... quite humorous!
"How much more patience does Auburn (11-7, 1-3) extend Jeff Lebo? He runs through players like Kelvin Sampson runs through phone calls, but so far the results are mediocre."
Hopefully, we'll get a good one.
Good night.
No doubt O'Brien can coach...
But, would AU take the gamble considering recent pasts (O'Brien's and AU's)??
Hey guys
Good Sunday morning to all! Great win for the men yesterday. So now what are the odds of Lebo's return next season?
I'd say 33.3 percent.
Got some losses ahead: LSU (twice), State (twice), probably Arkansas and at Alabama. Plus one in the SEC tournament. Of course, I may forgetten that we've already played these teams.
Jim O'Brien didn't leave OSU under the best of circumstances.
Yes, he's a good coach, but not sure how quickly the NCAA would set up shop at Auburn if he were hired.
Unfortunately I'm afraid it won't matter and we'll be stuck with Lebo.
Jet,
Unfortunately I was also in Knoxville when we failed to show up vs Ohio State.
New thread up, though it's not exactly groundbreaking.
See you all around 1:45 p.m. live from Coleman Coliseum.
