Chillin' on a Sunday

Hey everyone. I'm basically out of circulation today, trying to rest up for this week we have ahead. It should be a doozy.

  • We have men's NIT on Tuesday.

  • We have first day of spring football on Tuesday.

  • We have more spring football on Thursday.

  • We have more spring football on Saturday.

  • We have women's NCAAs (if Auburn beats Rutgers tomorrow) on Sunday.

Feel free to comment below on the men's NCAA games in progress. I did my best for Oklahoma State this afternoon ... to no avail.

Informal poll....
Should we buy GE appliances or Whirlpool appliances?
Lowe's the best place to get them?

Also, has anyone here laid ceramic tile in their kitchen (floor)? Really hard to do, or not too bad?

Just got around to going through the mail and saw the new sports illustrated. Cool to see Dewanna so prominately on the cover.

Also, what's the deal with Coach K. He looks like he's dropping a deuce.

I don't think I saw AU one time in the promotional spot for WNCAA on ESPN. I bet they showed 10 different teams. I was looking for the AU score on the crawl last night after I got in and AU was the very last one w/ no stats. At least SI will give AU some modest respect.

5:30 PM
Blogger ehyou said...

DMiller - There's not an ounce of difference between the two. As to where to buy, check Newegg. If they're not better than Lowe's, then go for it.

Ceramic tile is do-able. I won't say that it's easy, buy worth the cost savings to do it yourself.

Wow, crappy finish to the weekend by Auburn's baseball team. They were definitely competitive for the first two games, but were out of sorts today. 4 errors, and pitching was as bad as it could get. Still, hope this young team can use it as a learning experience and turn it around next weekend vs Vandy. Hopefully, a couple of out of conference mid-week games(at Samford and Troy) will help get the confidence back up.

Howdy... DMiller, Don't know about the appliances, but laying tile, I do. Be careful if your kitchen on 2nd floor, but if you're on a slab, go for it. If you're young, no big deal. Over 40, your back and knees will hurt. Will save a bunch of cash however.

9:06 PM
Blogger wtc said...

dmiller- I have only replaced some ceramic tile. not nearly as hard to because the lines are already set for the layout. I paid someone to do a bathroom. With the economy the way it is, some guys may do it to just keep active.

If the tile is going on a slab, be sure to glue down some felt paper and then tile over it.

9:09 PM
Blogger ADP said...

Laying tile on the floor is easy if you know how to start and a few other tricks. I can answer questions via email if you need help. Now laying it up the wall, not so easy.

I was proud of the fact that I'm 39-9 with my bracket, until I found out that my friend's 8 year old is also 39-9. Punch to the gut.

Steve, Monica, the finale of Big Love was off of the charts in my eyes. Did Joey really kill Roman? I can't believe he would go out in that fashion, but on this show the unexpected has to be expected. I now feel like I do when football season is over. What do I watch now?

9:19 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

Women are like tile. Once you laid one, you want to lay them all.

PF, you are right there, Nitro circus is always good for a laugh and a little amazement.

the tile will be going on slab, first floor... and floor only...

WTC... what is the purpose of the felt paper? why not directly on concrete?

9:37 PM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

having never laid tile, I am not an expert, but I suspect the felt is so that, when you decide you hate the tile in 5 years and want to remodel, it reduced the chances of chiseling away peices of the slab.

11:02 PM

The felt paper serves as a bond breaker, so that if the slab cracks one day, it won't continue into the tile. The tile will be "floating" on the slab via the bond breaker, or in this case the felt paper. It is a quick version of a setting bed, which was a common thing to do years ago. In that case, the slab was depressed in the tile area and a setting bed was used. Again, the idea is to prevent foundation cracks from tranferring into the flooring.

Have a good week and safe travels Jay!

My bracket looks terrible folks. Last year I had 16/16 in the sweet 16. This year 12/16...and I barely got that. Final 4 is in tact, but with the top heaviness of the tourney, who's isn't?!? It will be a great final 15 games. Hate I won't be getting that Size L HABOTN shirt that I NEED, but it's been fun keeping up with the contest nonetheless!

War Damn Eagle everybody!!

12:31 AM
Blogger Jet said...

Personally, I believe in economic stimulation -- hiring flooring guys to lay tile, painting guys to paint, and so forth.

It gives them a job, and gives me time to spend on HABOTN.

A true win-win.

4:37 AM
Blogger Norm said...

Morning Hotties - As is often the case, and has been for years, I agree with Jet. Though, my position isn't truly about economice stimulation. It's more selfishness or stubborness at this point. Sure, I'd like to be more handy than I am, but I recognize where to draw the line and know that my time is pretty valuable to me and I don't want to frustrate myself and my family. So, I'll hire out jobs such as that to someone who knows what they're doing. They can be in and out in easily half the time it would take me to finish it and they'll have done a better job.

But, that's just me.

Anyway, have a good day doing whatever it is that each of you do.
