HABOTN FAQ (first edition)

Feel free to make additions.

HABOTN FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why is this the "HABOTN"?
It's the Hottest Auburn Blog on The Net®. I was searching for a name that would distinguish our community from others that aspire to be this awesome. Dubbing it the hottest seemed interesting -- and the assertion can't be debunked. Try it.

When was the launch date?

March 1, 2006. Nobody attended.

Where are you located?
I live in Montgomery, Ala., and I cover Auburn for the Montgomery Advertiser. It's a newspaper.

Who pays you to blog?
I can't answer that.

Why is this free?
Because there is no payment involved.

What is "The Ring of Fire"?
Only the best and most veteran commenters qualify for the RoF, which is the highest level of the HABOTN hall of fame. We also recognize up-and-coming posters with "Feeling The Heat" and "Notable Newcomers" categories.

How do I get into the hall of fame?

One must be a frequent HABOTN visitor and somehow add to the site.

What about Michael? He makes no sense.
He doesn't make sense to you. He makes perfect sense to me.

Why is Dear Leader so good at making the first post to each thread?

It's one of life's great mysteries.

What is a "campfire"?
That's our term for live chats. We hold them at least once per week during the football season; every few weeks during other times of the year.

What is "puppet hour"?

It's the time of the day where a few of the more nonsensical HOTTIES gather and talk any number of off-topic subjects, such as puppets or cheerleading or any other non-sports related subject. Though the official time frame is 4-5 pm every weekday, a Puppet Hour can naturally occur at any point. Puppet Hour received its name due to the hatred and fear of puppets shared by the participants in the early days of these gatherings. Michael and Harrison often mitigate/fuel these discussions.

What is a "BANHAMMER"?
It's a large, golden sledgehammer use to punish annoying campfire particpants. I generally drop the BANHAMMER, though a few selected HOTTIES have been entrusted with the mighty weapon.

Why have you disabled anonymous posting?
We like our little enclave. We don't like the nastiness that has troubled many other sites in the Blogosphere. Anonymous posting is a conduit for much of that nastiness. Therefore, Einstein was right.

Why do people make references to Jay going to ESPN?
Jay has no comment on that matter. If a deal has been offered, he has not seen it. He communicates with his financial adviser periodically and promises swift dissemination of any information regarding his job status.

Where is the HABOTN swag?
It's in my drawer. And lots of other drawers. We sold HABOTN t-shirts during the 2008 football season, more than 100 of them, and they're now off the market. We expect to see them in the National Blog Hall of Fame one day. We may make more someday. Or not. Only one HABOTN hoodie exists.

    Since no one saw,

Wikipedia also cites that Sydney Lanier was from Macon. If this is true I would put him #3 on the list behind Otis Redding and ahead of #4 ehyoutiger and #5 Little Richard.

    From the previous thread:
Hoopie said..Luv..good point about 90 deg in September. I never considered that recruits from up north would dodge the heat. Wonder how big a factor that is?

Well, I'm from up north and the heat is big factor for me. I sweat and complain until Nov. that "this isn't football weather."

What about Michael? He makes no sense.
He doesn't make sense to you. He makes perfect sense to me.

Michael makes sense to me too (well, most of the time). I love his sense of humor. Sometimes, though, I really have to think, "Is he being serious or just being Michael?"

  20. One October day in 1998, Dear leader climbed Mt. Paektu, the highest mountain in Korea called the ancestral place of the nation.

Standing on its summit, he saw spectacular and magnificent sunrise tinging the sky with crimson, and said excitedly: “I feel the glowing sunrise is indicative of the victory of the socialist cause, and fresh courage and strength is surging up in me.” Then he continued that he further strengthened his resolve and readiness to accomplish without fail the revolutionary cause pioneered by President Kim Il Sung, father of socialist Korea, whenever he looked at the sunrise over the Mt. Paektu, I saw that was Auburn will soon see a great win streak over Alabama (crimson) only to be halted by an offensive experiment and Dear Leader will post first and lead all HOTTIEs in revolution.

Where are NuWay hotdogs on the list? Surely better than the now defunct Whoopie. Although I stil have a Whoopie puck on my desk as a paperweight.

    ReplyDelete
  51. NuWay is good, however there are certain....byproducts of eating there. I don't have the fortitude to do it more than once a month.

    ReplyDelete
  52. It's 5 here in GA. Let the weekend carousal begin. Later all.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I am proud to say that I am a proud owner of the limited edition HABOTN shirt...also I assume Jay is posting FAQ due to all the new members..seeing as how I have been blogging here since the start of last years football season and have never welcomed any new HOTTIES allow me to remedy that now...

Welcome to the HABOTN from wartiger..I am not as frequent a poster as some but I do lurk quite a bit...I would suggest respecting the RoF members due to there never ending whit and knowledge...Mon is probably my favorite Hottie tho Sensi seems to have the most knowledge and Micheal is well...Micheal..he cracks me up and I always have to reread his comments to understand..I love the challenge...As for our leader..he works tirelessly for us..he's not an AU fan but I don't hold that against you Jay...Jay answers my questions no matter how stupid or ridiculous they may be...Jay is the man and the best a reporting AU sports..I mean THE BEST...my last piece of advice new HOTTIES..stay respectful..I have been fortunate to avoid the BANHAMMER thus far but I have heard terrible things happen to the poor sap on which it is laid...WAR EAGLE!!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Billy G. is gone from UK?

    ReplyDelete
  55. I have been refreshing the last thread periodically for the last hour thinking, "Wow, convo died real fast." We still need a name for that phenomenon. Since it has happened to me twice now, I still recommend calling it, "Getting Jan Terried."

    ReplyDelete
  56. I am so incredibly proud to be mentioned twice in the FAQ. I knew this whole nonsense act (or lifestyle) would pay off one day.

    ReplyDelete
  57. LOVE LOVE LOVE the your post today, Jay G. You just get better and better at this every single day. You rock it like a monster.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Quick question - what exactly is it that Buck said when he first posted? Anyone tracked down that info yet?

    ReplyDelete
  59. Peace out - I have to go be a backup pickup basketball player now. Wish me popularity.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Dang I didn't realize I was so disconnected today I'm the only one who didn't know BG was gone for sure.

    Calipari of Memphis to UK?

    ReplyDelete
  61. How could you not be popular, Michael?

    ReplyDelete

  63. hey Mon-One month to the day til I move to Massachusetts..any advice?

    ReplyDelete
  64. Go to Fenway to see the Red Sox!

    ReplyDelete
  65. I see now just how much attention is paid to my posts. I was active in the Macon convo earlier and apparently no one knew.

Nu-Way has to be top 5. But, you must be aware of certain side-effects.

Ehyou, is the Bear's Den still kickin? I miss that place. I used to each lunch there all the time.

    ReplyDelete
  66. travel light - there's very little "stuff" you actually need - start now giving it away or tossing it

    ReplyDelete
  67. will do that for sure...I'm not a sox fan but I think that's a must..good advice prowler...I am driving up there...figure I will definitely check out D.C.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I'm taking my Mother to DC in about a month. I never get tired of visiting.

    ReplyDelete
  69. light is how I will travel..don't have much stuff anyway..yes..very excited..kinda starting to look at the plp here a little different..it's like maybe I didn't spend enough time with some of them..I know I will be leaning heavily on the HABOTN for my AU knowledge...

    ReplyDelete
  70. Are you a Braves fan?

    ReplyDelete
  71. think I will be able to get the AU games via ppv?

    ReplyDelete
  72. if I had to chose a baseball team to be a fan of yeah..I guess the Braves..tho I see myself becoming either a sox or mets fan..hate the yankees...

    ReplyDelete
  73. We have DirecTV and ESPN Gameplan and we saw nearly all the games last year (not that it was a good experience, but I digress).

    ReplyDelete
  74. The Braves play the Sox in Boston June 19-21. I hate the yanks too. Love Fenway!

    ReplyDelete
  75. I hear DC isn't the place to be at night tho...I hope to make the trip in about 2 days or so..about 1100 miles..19 hrs...everyone here says I'll start to hate snow..but I doubt that...we'll see..

    ReplyDelete
  76. big baseball fan prowler? braves or what?

    ReplyDelete
  77. wartiger, i'm in NH so I get to deal with the massholes. If you want to blend in, just misplace your R's; if a word has the letter R in it, drop it. If it doesn't, add it. Example: Harvard= Havad. alabama=Alabamer.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I'll sacrifice quality if I have too but it relives much stress to find that at least I will be able to see the games..when I make it big up there I'll start flying down every Saturday to sit in my designated seat on the 50!!

    ReplyDelete
  79. The two main sports that I follow are Auburn Football and the Boston Red Sox. Couldn't care less about other teams really. You can bet I will be going to see the Sox when they come to ATL. I really want to make my way back to visit Boston soon.

    ReplyDelete
  80. mrdude-I am moving to Townsend are you an AL native?

    ReplyDelete
  81. wartiger - just like any place there are parts of DC to avoid, but there are many more parts of DC that are fan freakin tastic day or night.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Pahk yuh cah in Havad yahd.

    ReplyDelete
  83. I was born and raised here in AL..I am being told Massachusetts is a different world..I don't think that's a bad thing...am I wrong?

    ReplyDelete
  84. It's going to be great, Wartiger. Big adventure for you.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Of course it's different! And that's not a bad thing. It's just a different thing. I think everyone should have to live outside of the region in which they were born. That's just me.

    ReplyDelete
  86. thanks Mon..I really am excited...things haven't gone perfectly leading up to me moving but I don't plan on letting anything stop this from happening...it really feel right...

    ReplyDelete
  87. Anonymous4:38 PM

    mrdude said...alabama=Alabamer

That isn't just a northern thing. I have heard several people down here do that and they have lived in AL all their lives. I actually never heard it until I moved down here.

    ReplyDelete
  90. BTW mon- My bracket bit the big one with the Memphis loss..how you doing?

    ReplyDelete
  91. Where's the pupper master?! I thought this was puppet hour.

    ReplyDelete

wartiger said...Mon is probably my favorite Hottie

Monica, do you feel the love?

    ReplyDelete
  93. she already knew that LUV...Mon is my personal advisor and yoda...

    ReplyDelete
  94. Hope Shesaid didn't get any damage from those tornadoes in Baldwin Co.

    ReplyDelete
  95. wartiger, I'm an alabama native and auburn alum.
What part of mass are you moving to?

I would say it's moderately different up here. People are much more private, so don't feel weird if people aren't overly outgoing and open up to you. People are typically very polite, or at least in NH they are; can't say for certain if Mass is the same.
You'll like the snow until late Feb and March. It's fun, but after a while you just get tired of it and look forward to spring.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Dang I didn't even see that, Wartiger! That is so sweet of you. Yes, I do feel the love, Luv. Wartiger is good guy for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I am moving to Townsend MA...I really can't wait...the plp that have never been to MA here that give me their opinions of the north tend to be very negative..of course this is AL..the south will rise again...kinda stuff...

    ReplyDelete
  98. I totally agree with what Mr. Dude said. One thing I like about living up here was the anonymity. Being able to go to the grocery or mall and not seeing someone you know is liberating! HA

    ReplyDelete
  99. Anonymous4:51 PM

wartiger, as a PA native transplanted to AL, I can say that people are the same wherever you go. Some are friendly. Some are not. BTW, not that it's any of my business, but what is taking you to MA?

    ReplyDelete
  100. See, you already know not to listen to people who have never even been there or lived outside of Alabama! I mean what kind of opinion could they offer? I'm telling ya. You're going to love it. There will be an adjustment period, but just know to expect that, get involved in what's going on around you and ENJOY IT!

    ReplyDelete
  101. Luv - I was wondering what was taking you so long to ask!!! HAHAHA

    ReplyDelete
  102. Mon, I love it too. I work in a big office, and I like that I don't have to smile and say hi to everyone that I walk past without seeming like an ass. I can look straight forward or read email on my blackberry and no one thinks anything of it.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Anonymous4:55 PM

Monica, I literally laughed out loud!!! I'm sure people down the street heard me!! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  104. Luv-My mom lives up there...a chance to get to know her and get out of AL..like mon said..live away from where I grew up...take a chance..get out of my comfort zone..besides I am young and nothing holding me back..why not?...it's an opportunity that I think I will regret if I don't do it...

    ReplyDelete
  105. Anonymous4:57 PM

I work in a hospital and as I'm walking down the hall and see someone coming from the other direction, I make a point to look at that person and at least smile. Most of the people are already either looking away or at the floor.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Anonymous4:59 PM

wartiger, good for you! I applaud that. I moved away from my hometown in my mid-20's because I simply needed a change. I had a friend from college who lived in OK with her husband, so that's where I went. It was difficult at first, but I don't regret it.

    ReplyDelete
  107. I heard you, Luv. ;-)

Wartiger - no matter where you go you'll always know where to find the Hotties. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  108. wartiger, just think of it as extended the reach of the HABOTN Nation. You can be the northeast recruiter.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Anonymous5:03 PM

That's right. The Hotties will always be a mouse click away!

    ReplyDelete
  110. Thanks for the support..I haven't been able to get a solid feel on what it's like up there until I started talk to ya'll..even now I know it's a transition..the biggest adjustment for me I think will be the lack of passion for college football..I'll teach'em tho...I'll teach'em...

    ReplyDelete
  111. Anonymous5:04 PM

    I prefer HABOTN Family. :-)

I saw a bumper sticker the other day that said SABAN NATION. UGH. I almost threw up.

    ReplyDelete
  112. I don't know what the talent is like in Mass but if there is any I will be sure to report it to the HABOTN so it can go to the right places...

    ReplyDelete
  113. HABOTN Family it is.

Adios, Hotties! Have a great night!

    ReplyDelete
  114. I am looking forward to not having to look at the bama flags..trucks...old trucks..older trucks..S the coach stickers...and all the other crap the silly Bammers so love to spend there money on...

    ReplyDelete
  115. c-ya prowler- thanks for the advice..

    ReplyDelete
  116. Anonymous5:08 PM

Yes, the majority of northerners prefer professional football. I was a huge Steelers fan since I was in 5th grade. But, moving to AL and becoming an Auburn fan changed all that! I couldN'T care less about the NFL now.

    ReplyDelete
  117. I will jump on the Pats band wagon for sure..I was rooting for them to go undefeated..but was let down..

    ReplyDelete
  118. Anytime, wartiger.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Hello All, Been away for a short period of time. What's the latest news on the Plains? One of these days I hope to make it as a "Notable Newcomer". Put in a good word for me Mon!!! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  120. Anonymous5:16 PM

Well, I'm off to Boot Camp to run stadium stairs! UGH.

    ReplyDelete
  121. I have seized first place in the HABOTN Bracket Tournament. Just thought I would let all you fine people know. And Syracuse better win.

    ReplyDelete
  122. bye Luv- don't be surprised if I question you more on the north before I leave..need all the help I can get..have fun at Boot Camp..if that's possible...

    ReplyDelete
  123. nice Cotton..my bracket got busted last night...did you get a HABOTN tee when they were available? I really wanted that bracket winner one but it's not looking good...

    ReplyDelete
  124. Billy Gillispie is an idiot for saying being an ambassador for KY basketball wasn't in his job description. Well, that and lots of other reasons too.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Nice work on the "N'T" Luv!

Ant - I don't know about you. You had some Campfire comments that made me raise an eyebrow. You've got work to do, studly. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  126. UNC will win it all.

    ReplyDelete
  127. A "furcation"

    Furlough + Vacation = Furcation

    ReplyDelete
  128. Unfortunately, I do not currently own a HABOTN T-Shirt. Hopefully that will soon change.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Mon, did Gillispie really say that?

If you're being paid a couple mil to be a coach, i thought being an ambassador for the program was a given...

    ReplyDelete
  130. especially since it will be a one of a kind...one Hoodie..one HABOTN bracket champ shirt..

    ReplyDelete
  131. Anonymous5:41 PM

Wartiger..I grew up in Al, graduated from AU and moved to Atl. In the past 29 years I lived 3 years in So Fla, 2 years In Cleveland, Oh and 4 years in Arizona. Back in the day, I travelled and developed Real Estate all over the Northeast. Folks are generally great everywhere. It's up to you.

You will be kidded as a stereotypical southerner b/c of your accent. This is most true in the NE US. My experience is that good manners are excepted everywhere.

Arizona---had a great time. Everyone was from somewhere else, active and open.

    Cleveland---Midwesterners with hearts of gold.

So Fla---Folks from all over and active. It took longer to meet/make friends. I was young.

Lived in Atl/Ga before, in between and after those adventures and wouldn't change any of it.

    Embrace the adventure and Godspeed.

    ReplyDelete
  132. "furcation": excellent verbiage

    ReplyDelete
  133. only thing bad i've ever heard about mass. is that boston driving will raise your bp. people are salt of the earth, according to a friend of mine (from north alabama) who lived there a couple of years, unless they are behind the wheel of a car.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Hoppie- thanks! I am now totally convinced that this is the right move for me...

    ReplyDelete
  135. I'm headed out Hotties..have fun..and good posting...I'll likely check back later..

    ReplyDelete
  137. Hello all. Happy Friday!

    ReplyDelete
  138. Thankin' about hittin' up Good Ole Boys. Yes or No? Mon, you work out today?

    ReplyDelete
  139. That's what was reported on local news, Miller. So, I guess he said it.

EZ - I didn't make it to the HIT Center, but I worked out at home. Not the same, but better than nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  140. What is Good Ole Boys?

    ReplyDelete
  141. It's a country steak house off of 29. It's where they have tht alpha psi rodeo now. It's a privately owned restaurant.

    ReplyDelete
  142. That sounds like your kind of place, EZ.

    ReplyDelete
  143. Yeah, I went to the gym today and now I feel like something hardy. Guess it's a go then.

    ReplyDelete
  144. What do you have goin' on tonight there Mon?

    ReplyDelete
  145. I'm holding down my end of the sofa, playing poker, buying tickets to see Buddy Guy. It's raining like crazy.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Very interesting blog and something like this should probably be posted early in the football season when people rapidly pile upon the air Chizik bandwagon. I am looking forward to it.

As for any criticism of Michael, he shall be defended. As a matter of fact I would like to nominate Michael as official judge of humor. He should distinguish between something being funny, cruel, or the ironic cruel yet funny. Long live Michael.

I am out of town dealing with a family emergency, but I do have the HABOTN in my heart.

An explanation of the kicker on a stick concept might should probably be added to this blog. I think it is an innovation in sports that was originally proposed here.

    ReplyDelete
  147. JAYG, what has happened to your love of LOST? Ben was killed last episode!

    ReplyDelete
  148. Oh man. Syracuse is flat flat flat. Bye bye hoodie.

I'm glad I've gotten all my bragging in already.
