Iron Bowl moving to ... Friday?
Hey everyone. Recently received word from the SEC office that CBS has gained exclusive rights to televise the Iron Bowl in 2009 and 2010.
So, what gives? The games will be played on Fridays.
The 2009 game, played at Jordan-Hare, will kick off at 1:30 p.m. CST on Friday, Nov. 27.
The 2010 game, played in Tuscaloosa, will be played on Friday, Nov. 26.

Boomshakalaka!
BOOM
Night game....
Nice work you two!
Friday Iron Bowls?! That's like having Easter on Wednesday! It's just not right.
Gracias!
It sucks BIG TIME!!!
DL -- it's already scheduled for 1:30 on CBS
I wish it was a night game too
if I recall its pretty cold at night in November.... need to stock up on antifreeze now..
maybe I will flush the system this weekend in preparation...
Is the governer going to declare that Friday a State Holiday??
When will the madness cease?!
Might as well shut the state down that Friday...no one will be working anyways.
y'all excuse me, I've got to get to work figuring out how to get out of work on the Friday after Thanksgiving. That's like trying to turn cow dung into gold.
In the case of both dates, that's the Friday after Thanksgiving, right in the middle of a 4 day weekend. What's wrong with that? No one will be working and everyone will be able to travel and imbibe with fewer worries.
Besides, it's cheaper to drag your wife to the game than let her go shopping that day.
Cow dung into gold! lol...pretty good, THT. Let me know if you ever figure that out...you could be freakin' rich!
You've got a good point, 61. Thanks for giving us a rational perspective.
my wife is going to be SOOOOOOO happy leaving her family after Thanksgiving lunch to head to Auburn. suck it up woman!!!!!!
Is this the Friday right after Thanksgiving?
61,
Lots of people work on the Friday after Thanksgiving, me included. But if I have to quit my job, I am going to be in Jordan-Hare that day. AU doesn't give a gosh darn about my schedule, but I still love AU with every cell and mitochondria in my aging body.
Wow I'm really hating CBS right now. 1:30 PM day after T'giving? Yea that's not gonna cause any problems at all...
Makes no difference to me. Sorry to the people who are screwed by it, though.
Good..
Gives either team an extra day to prepare for the Championship game.
Michael, love the post on your page about getting up to pee in the morning...couldn't agree more.
61north- Tell my boss no one will be working that day, see what theey tell you
I am not very happy on this one! Although, it gives another day to recover!

Is that the day after Thanksgiving?
YUP.

Some boards are going crazy with Bammer getting more letters related to NCAA Violations. Does The HABOTN have an official stance on this other than the rumor stuff...
let's just move xmas to new year's eve and get it all outta the way at once.
Sweet! Another reason to avoid the shopping madness!
Does anyone know how many times the game has not been played on a Saturday?
we choose our vacation weeks in January. Thanksgiving week goes real quick and since the game was scheduled for SATURDAY, I passed on that week and chose the week leading into the game at Baton Rouge. I WILL be in Auburn for the Iron Bowl, hopefully still employed, but unemployed if necessary.
Isn't the Egg Bowl played on that Friday? Are you telling me that Mississippi V Mississippi St. isn't a compelling national matchup? And someone explain me this, how does CBS own a game this far out? What if Bammer is 5-6 and Auburn is 5-6 rolling in to the game, are they going to put it on eBay then?
it'll be 'Black Friday'......for the Tide. ;)
JD,
HABOTN's official stance, with one ROF dissenter, is that we HATE bama!!!
This probably does affect 25% of the working folks outside of the state of Alabama. In the state of Alabama.....most employers would be foolish to force the issue.
I remember as a kid my mother went to KMart during the game and the radio broadcast was being played instead of the normal elevator music.
sorry THT. guess it's time to start looking for another job, eh?
Hoopie, what Kind of K-mart has an elevator?
Harrison,
I do not know the answer, but I do know the Iron Bowl was on Friday in '88. THTsr, me, and THTjr flew to B'ham T'giving morning and had T'giving dinner in Pizza Hut (it was the only place we found open). It was an AUsome game!
JD, I don't follow Alabama very closely. You all may know more than me about any PLOIs received in Tuscaloosa.
Biscuit...
If by other boards you mean a few posters on ITAT or the Bunker then I guess u are correct.
Some guy on ITAT is saying they are getting a letter with 144 violations. LOL....
Good luck with that.
Can I make a request, Can we please replace the 6 picture on the front of the blog. I do not want to think about the streak, because lord knows you win one game and the world spins on a different axis.
My recent foray into the world of unemployment (and being a tax burden to the rest of you) has caused me to stoop to a new personal low. I was forced to check the REC website for employment opportunities, however, I think I am a bit overqualified as I can spell my own name correctly and pick my nose efficiently. I fear AU is falling behind Bama again…they may eventually take the lead for most number of years on NCAA probation by an SEC school.
These positions have all been approved by the University of Alabama legal council, University of Alabama Athletic Dept. and Compliance Office, Head Coach Nick Saban, and with enthusiastic support from Athletic Department Boosters. Eligibility and qualifications will be determined by Coach Saban based on strength, speed, and agility drills conducted in off-season workouts or summer recruiting camps. NCAA knowledge and approval of these positions is still pending but expected.
Some jobs w/ descriptions for players and recruits posted on the REC website include:
Senior Vegetation Regeneration Analyst.
Monitors the regenerative properties of local vegetation (such as grass) and determines at what time mechanical intervention is necessary to remove excess growth. Removal of excess growth will be performed by contracted landscaping company. Benefits include: Company Car: Cadillac, BMW, Mercedes, Hummer & Lexus available, meal expenses, and retention bonus. Cost del Mar sunglasses and lawn chair provided. Attendance is optional.
Pigmentation Moisture Retention Analyst.
Continuously monitors the level of moisture retained in interior and/or exterior paint that has been applied to a structure (such as the upscale house your parents/guardian/mentor will receive free of rent/mortgage). Benefits include: Company Car (available in the usual models), meal expenses and retention bonus. Wii, X-box, and PS3 + games provided. Attendance is optional unless you live there too.
Automotive Coating Reflectivity and Sanitation Specialist.
Sit in a shady or air conditioned observation post and monitor the progress of automobile detail work performed by hourly staff at local auto dealer or car wash. Benefits include: Company Cars for you and family provided by dealer, meal expenses and retention bonus. Attendance is optional.
Senior Package Contents Inspector.
Inspect various packages such as briefcases, cardboard boxes and brown paper bags for items such as jewelry, Rolex watches, car keys, and $100 bills. This is a work from home opportunity. All expenses incurred will be reimbursed (numerous times if necessary).
Positions are/will be immediately available in any city where a current star football player or highly sought football recruit lives or relocates to. Family members and high school coaches are also eligible. Contact your University of Alabama position and/or recruiting coach for further details.
FSJ, do you know if the NCAA has to pay postage on all of those letters? If so I wonder if they send 144 letters individually or send it on one packet?
1987 IB was also Friday. Our early morning flight was canceled and we arrived in B'ham near kickoff. The cabbie was going airborne at every intersection getting us to the game. We only missed the first 6 minutes of another GREAT AU win!
1992 IB was on Turkey day, I think.
Tar Heel Tiger
Who in the RoF doesn't hate Bama?
92 was on thanksgiving
Well they have enough money to send them individually :-)
JD...those rumors have surfacing every few weeks. Spongeworthy has on several occasions, tried to incite the HABOTN conversation without a lot of participation.
There is a lot of smoke....mostly coming from the AU folks. Is it really a serious fire or mostly a smoke machine? Bama will probably get at least some form of probation. I imagine only a few Bammer insiders really know if it will be bad. Notice that the national sports media isn't saying much?
Uh..Gnome..
That would be me....
LOL @ The Gnome
What do you expect? The guy's (gnome) head is on fire.
What a load of crap. CBS blows goats.
FSJ prediction:
Bama will get some sort of probation from textbookgate (primarily due to what happened with Harvey Glance's track team while the AD was in the repeat violator window) and the football team will lose few, if any scholarships over it.....
And that will be that.
And that is lousy, FSJ. Alabama promptly punished those involved and it took a toll on the season (except the UT game). They reported it quickly.
N - Never
C - Consistent
A - About
A - Anything
I knew I still liked Harvey!
"CBS blows goats" ??? Never heard that saying.
I sorta agree Sensi..
but I sorta don't...
The subsequent investigation found that the same thing happened with the track team and swimming team back until late 2005/early 2006.. (which was in the repeat violator window)
To me that means we didn't have enough oversight on the process from a University perspective. We should have been very diligent. Even though to you and me it seems like a small deal (getting books for your girlfriends/boyfriends/friends) we should have been more aware. I bet it caused every school around to examine their process though. :-)
All we did was take over the time spot that used to be for Arkansas/LSU.
Yep RK..my thoughts exactly
Good point, FSJ.
Another chalk on the wrong side of the board for Mal I suppose.
That Arky/LSU game is going to be something this year.
Heck, it was fun last year.
I sent an email to Mrs THT informing her of the Friday game. Her reply:
I will miss you. I will be there with [THTjr].
SP
I love that woman!
This comment has been removed by the author.
Hold on to that one, THT.
They don't make them like that anymore.
This is a dream come true. No more arguments with the lady about me wanting to go to the Iron Bowl instead of the stupid UGA/GaTech game. Now, I get to be happy on Friday, and she gets to be happy on Saturday.
FSJ,
I am leaning towards the traditional Houston Nutt/Tommy Tuberville "unable to manage success" properly mode as well. When Houston has the hype, he usually flattens out.
1:30 kick?...booooo
FSJ said...
IMO,
I'm not buying that Ole Miss will be the best in the West this year as some think..
I can see them going 8-4 yet beating either Alabama, Auburn, or LSU...or even two of the three.
Is that crazy?
Crap....guess this means everyone is at my house for Thanksgiving...
Crap..
Didn't say it right the first time..
Deleted..yet screwed it up again.
LOL
So what u are saying zookeeper is that the HOTTIE Thanksgiving tailgate will be at your house?
Sure, faker...
You gonna wear your HABOTN t-shirt?
Thanks for the invite, Kristina. Put us down for 3 attendees.
Yeah me too zookeeper..
Three.
I'll bring the chips and dip.
Two for: Mrs. Sensi will fo sho come along.
Will do, THT...
Well that is bogus that I have been on the other thread waiting for comments picking my nose.
And Sensi and Faker....
Better bring sleeping bags...
Hope everything came out ok AU1N04
No problem Kristina..
I already have a room for the weekend.
Yes all is well.
Kristina I will bring the Firefly Vodka
I'll bring the Makers Mark, fried turkeys, and smoked ham.
AU1...yay!! Sounds like a party now ;-)
Faker, quit teasing...
I'll bring the Jim Beam and Smirnoff. Get ready for rounds of Russian Rednecks.
Russian Redneck:
A shot of Smirnoff topped with a shot of Jim Beam.
Serve cold or room temp.
Yum, food talk. Anyone ever had a bbq sandwich made on cornbread instead of a bun? That's what I'm trying tomorrow at, oddly enough, Bunn's Barbecue in Windsor, NC.
THT - Interesting, let us know the results.
I've had that, THT.
Wonderful...
That actually sounds good THT. Although I am really hungry right now...
Thanks, sensi. When I heard about it, I was a bit leary. I'll dive into it now without hesitation.
That actually sounds good to me for some reason...
And I am not a huge cornbread fan.
leery?
Sam loves cornbread. Sam loves BBQ. Combined into a sandwich, that sounds lovely.
I'll let y'all know this weekend. We're going to visit Hope Plantation www.hopeplantation.org mainly to see the old maps and globes they have there. Whenever we road trip in NC, I always try to find a good bbq place.
I think both are right, THT, but EE is more widely used.
Sam is correct...
THT - If I were to go to the Mtns in the summer. Maybe on a lake with kids? Where would I go, or should go?
I can't believe Sam didn't say Sammich
yes, i was quite certain it was ee. I must have been subconsciously thinking about Timothy O when I typed the first post. Now I'm really concerned.
or George, heaven forbid.
A Sammich is a very sacred act. It would have to be a very special sandwich to be compared to that.
Snowy Range, WY, my favorite place on earth, outside of Auburn.
Or did you mean just the NC mountains?
NC Mtns.
how old are the kiddies?
Can't stay 'cause I have housecleaning to do (UGH), but I wanted to say hi to TarHeel!! Are you back to stay or just making a cameo?
I may get to go this year.
As for the Friday Iron Bowls, I remember them. One year my employer announced a week ahead of time that we must work that day. I told them a week ahead of time that I will be sick that day. I didn't show and I never heard anything about it.
As for not hating Bama, I am a RoF member that doesn't hate Bama, although I do favor kicking the crap out of the in the most kind, understanding, and thoughtful manner. A football team just can't make me hate.
I am a RoF and I do hate bama.
Range goes from 16-3
As a matter of fact I have been trained by the Master of bama Hate, Jet. I'll wait for him to give me my credentials. I don't know what I'll be called, but I know it comes with a tiara.
scottie, heads up. There's some strong storms heading your way!
Monica, you'll have to come tailgate with us, if you do!
Without a doubt!
Gentlemen, stand and bow. We have Hottie ladies in the room!
Did you see my 1:22 post, TarHeel?
oh how we've missed you, THT
sigh...
Hi Luv,
Cameo, I suppose. Already run my mouth too much.
thanks Luv. we're looking forward to the madness.
:-( No, you don't. I've missed you.
I haven't been gone. I've just tried to stay quiet. Not sure what was in my lunch today. Could have been the 2 cupcakes I ate afterwards.
Well, the HABOTN just isn't the same without your posts.
Sam does not bow before women.
Now, I really must go or I'll never get my housecleanin (UGH) done. Have a great weekend, Hotties, and War Eagle!
so..I was planning on practicing tonight for the upcoming Q contest...
but the weather looks like its gonna be interesting.
Might be a good chance to practice in less than ideal conditions though
There's not much you do for women.
Luv - you are undoubtedly my most favorite technologist and you are far too kind. My posts should always be first, they have no substance.
Luv
He hasn't got the memo that women have all the power.
TarHeel, they do for me. I wish you'd start running your mouth more. Ok, outta here!
A temporary change for this post ...
Brethren, let us our justifiable hate spew forth, cascading waves of righteous anger directed foresquare at the heathens of UAT.
Sister Monica, your righteousity is confirmed.
"Kneel before Zod.......ZOD!!!!"
Mon- tiara, that was funny. I don't mean funny as in "you are so undeserving of a tiara funny"... au contraire your worshipfulness, it was just funny.
LOL Jet..
You have a warped mind..
WARPED...
In a good way.
Back in the sunshine of my Auburn love ...
Dinner on the grounds at Kristina's, Iron Bowl Game Day.
Our thanks to Sister Kristina for her generosity of spirit and space.
Of course, Brother Jet. Anything for family...
Remember that Shug Jordan and Bear Bryant use to go on a fishing trip together every year before the Iron Bowl. There wasn't hate between them. Then their teams would beat the crap out of each other in a kind, understanding, thoughtful manner.
I was once at an Iron Bowl at Legion Field in the very early 90s. There was a UAT student throwing bottles of the top of Legion Field. Naturally, the police showed up and he had to miss the game. Hate is bad. A good ole fashion butt kicking is good.
i love to hate. it takes balls to hate. I have huge balls
LOL Harrison..
truth be told, i know longer hate bammers, just bama. it's hard to hate folks that treated me as nice as they did in Tuscaloser at the '04 IB. It was almost like I was in Auburn (This is the point in the conversation where the following 3 things happen:
1. THTjr starts yelling, "Traitor, traitor, traitor".
2. MrsTHT reminds me she has POA.
3. Rev. JET excommunicates me.)
Steve-o ...
I will not speak evil of Shug, but our greatest successes as a football program have been when those in charge had absolutely no use whatsoever for the infidels (despite any previous associations).
The only exception was 1957 when we won the national championship. Of course, after that season they decided that we were worth hating and did something about it.
or if Harrison is right, maybe my nuggets have just shriveled.
THT ...
I am praying to attribute your apostasy to low blood sugar.
Go have a bowl of ice cream, and see if that gets you straighened out. Otherwise, repent.
Rev-
I just ate a bunch of Keebler fudge sticks. I'm feeling better, and hatin more!
Apologies to those non-haters, but until you've had liquor bottles thrown at you trying to dislodge your head from your hat, you may not understand how the hate can last so long. Still hatin on bama, gators, dawgs and trojans in pretty much that order, although because of personal relationships bama hate is different from the others.
apostasy... I'll look that one up later.
Amen, Brother THT.
Let's all stand and sing, "Wash Me and I Shall Be Whiter Than Snow."
Brother Jet- speaking of white..
to quote Murderous (played by Snoop Dogg in Monk),
"You're the whitest boy I know, and I know Kevin Costner"
I'm not much of a fan of coaches being all friendly off the field. What fun is a rivalry if you can't hate the other team's coach? A rivalry has to have hate to make it a real rivalry. Otherwise, it's just another game. Also, I think it is easier to not hate Bama if you live out-of-state. The constant Saban love-fest and Tide detergent-box holders in Alabama keep my Bama-Hate at a healthy level.
I hate the Auburn football/basketball/baseball programs..
but not Auburn fans (for the most part) or Auburn University.
Weird.
PTL Brother Jet! I am confirmed.
THT if someone told you you talk too much THEY LIED! We miss you on the HABOTN.
Faker - Love the new avatar. Best yet! Very sweet.
depressed- good point.
I grew up a big fan of UNC basketball, but pulled for any ACC teams. Now that I live midway between Puke and UNC, I have a hard time pulling for Puke no matter who they play (unless it's UA-T, of course).
Watch that Serpent FSJ, brethren ... he's posting a cute photo of him and his so-called daughter to lure you into his web with his flowery posts ... that's just a child he grabbed at the park and had one of his infidels cronies take a quick photo before the cops came.
Remember we are forbidden to take from the fruit of Bear and Saban.
Mon- no one told me I was overly loquacious (When the future Mrs THT met my mom for the first time circa 1977, my mom privately told her "he was a quiet child"). It's just a lot easier to not piss someone off if my mouth is shut.
You piss me off when it is shut! You're just fun, THT. Hope to see evidence that you're around more often.
Thank you Brother Jet! Help me be strawng!
Words NEVAH ascribed to Jet:
"He was a quiet child."
Nor Sistah Monica.
When I was at AU the IB was always the Friday after T'giving and I was happy when I moved back here that it was the week before
I was told by my seventh grade science teacher that you could power the whole city of Gadsden off of the energy provided by my mouth.
I never did like that woman. She was an Auburn fan too...
FSJ ...
She was just speaking truth to (non-hydroelectric) power.
The 92 game was on Thanksgiving as some recalled above. I think that took a little away from the game. Perhaps it was just because it was at Legion Field.
Outside of the 88 game I don't remember any other Friday games.
Maybe she was just calling you Green. :-)
I can find it in my soul to dislike people that throw bottles, whether they are Auburn or Alabama fans.
I must admit, it is easier to dislike Bama now that Saban is the coach. Beating Shula was like kicking a puppy.
I now go to the beach at Charleston, the week of T'giving and it is hard to leave! Had to come back early once when my daughter was on the flag line. They should make it more convenient for us that are addicted!
y'all excuse me; i must get 4 hours of work done in the next 90 minutes. Then it's a well deserved VACATION!!!
Where you going, THT?
I never trust bammers who talk like Faker!
WEG ...
As your creative writing teacher, I advise that you could have put a period after the word "Bammers" and would have had a more effective sentence.
"I never trust Bammers."
See, isn't that more effective?
Friday in 87, 88, 74
Thanksgiving also in 64
per quick perusal of the ever handy AU media guide.
FSJ, what really took away from the '92 game wasn't that it was played on T'giving, but that Auburn DIDN'T SCORE A SINGLE POINT. Oh the heartache and misery.
Faker gets a pass. As Bamers go, I consider him gifted:)
Mon
- first part of the week, UNC library for old map research
- 2nd part of the week, the Loveliest Village for A-Day. Haven't been to one of those boring games in 30+ years.
Confession time...
I hated Nick Saban when he was at LSU...It was an envious hate..but hate nonetheless.
Another confession. I liked Tuberville at Ole Miss and wanted him to replace Stallings.
Two steps down the aisle, FSJ.
Won't you finish the walk, and step into the light?
Jet- you are too funny. But I'm glad to see you offering encouragement to the lost souls.
brother jet, as usual, you are correct!
Harrison,
we had a lot of fun when our kids were about 12-14ish at the ruby mines near Franklin. It can get expensive, though, if you decide to turn your finds into jewelry. Sliding Rock can be a lot of fun with the right water level:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sliding_Rock
We aren't lake people, so I can't offer much help there.
FSJ- have you always lived in Gadsden. I grew up there also
THT- I'm not sure what you're talking about, but it sounds cool.
Is it puppet hour yet?! I'm getting restless.
Let the infidels go Jet. They are just sinners in the hads of an angry God.
Has Michael made an appearance today? Can we seek permission to launch Puppet Hour an hour earlier just this one time?
Pretty please.
He was here earlier, around lunch time.
BigCat ...
I am a mere minister of His vengeance with a flaming sword.
But I'm going to transfer some of my energy because it's almost PUPPET HOUR!!!
Excellent vacation, THT!!
FAKER!!! That was impressive stuff right there. You're on you way...
That made me a little misty.
Harrison, thanks for pointing that out to me. I meant to direct that comment to AU1N04.
My mind is feeble.
it's cool THT. i'm not bright. I went back and looked at my comments to make sure i didn't just forget what we were talking about.
Puppet hour can be whenever we want it to be
Pretty much Harrison....
I lived in Nashville for a few years.
Split time between Gadsden and Atlanta for a year or so..
and obviously my time in Tuscaloosa.
Went to Emma Sansom for High School.
Puppet Hour is commencing...NOW!
Something tells me that James Spann is about to be in rare form.
i'm all twitterpated
Does anyone else want to shave that poof off of his head??
i went to glencoe. county schoolin'.
Hallelujah! One less day to wait.
Me n armcandy will be driving down from Winnipeg. I guess we'll have to come a day early and stay an extra day.
Harrison...
My wife went to Glencoe.
Does that bring on the wit of the hotties?
YES
GO
twitterpated? That sounds either painful or erotic, I can't figure out which.
Prowler - If his woman loved him she'd shave that off his head.
weird FSJ, when did she graduate?
