Alabama is up
- There is much anticipation. The crowd was hushed when told of Saban's proximity.
- Saban has arrived with his posse.
- He just pulled the mic down.
- "It's great to be back to work."
- "We did have a great vacation. I hope you had a great vacation."
- "It's very difficult to predict what a bunch of adolescents are going to do. We have 100 of them."
- We have a winner in the Who Can Say Less With More award.
- "When I worked with Bill Belichick, we only had one sign in the building. It said: `Do Your Job.' We don't have one individual who can make our team great."
- He just dissed Andre Smith (indirectly) for being a "blinking light" and undermining the Tide prior to the Sugar Bowl.
- On quarterback Greg McElroy: "The players like him."
- On replacing Andre Smith and Antoine Caldwell: "I don't think you can really replace guys like those guys." (He later referred to Smith as "Smitty".)
- On opening against Va Tech in a neutral site ... and doing the same thing last season (against Clemson): "Playing that game over there -- win, lose or draw -- helped our team play on the road. It helps your offseason. The players are more intense about what they're doing because they're preparing for a huge game."
- Coach, how you doin'?: "Great."
- You look good: "Thanks." (This was hilarious to hear.)
- He's discussing Marquis Maze and Rolando McClain.
- On the SEC West: "There are a lot of good teams and a lot of good returning players. There are some great coaches. Every team in our league, on our side of it, has a chance to win the championship."
- "Auburn has good players coming back."
- Urban Meyer vs. Bill Belichick: "Urban is a great coach. They work as hard as anybody we know. We're a blue-collar program, so we have a tremendous amount of respect for that. Urban was like that before he met Belichick. I know I coached for four years with Bill Belichick. I probably learned as much from him ... as anybody I've ever been around. His success proves that what he does, the process he uses, is very effective."
- He claims to have for Tebow as the first-team SEC quarterback. "Everybody should have a right to vote for whoever they want."
- Saban made the unusual link between people giving their lives for freedom and being able to vote freely for the All-SEC team.
- On Tebow in the NFL: "It's a difficult evaluation when you play a little different kind of offense. I'm not being critical (of Florida's offense), but it's different. They have a defined prototype that they evaluate for. Nobody is disrespecting him. It's just more difficult to evaluate."
- "I didn't expect anything from Julio Jones last year."
- Does the celebrity ever get old?: "My daddy said: `You only have a problem when nobody asks for your autograph.' If there's not a stir downstairs, I know I'm in trouble."
- Saban spoke about playing a small role in the upcoming movie, "The Blind Side," about former Ole Miss tackle Michael Oher. "It's not the lines that get you, it's the camera angles. You think they get that in one shot. It doesn't work like that."
- "The concept of a spread offense is great. It's the multiple (formations) that make it difficult."
- On Mike Slive's asssertion for teams to stop sniping at each other: "What other people do doesn't affect (what he does at Alabama). I've never been critical of anything anybody else does or says."
- On Alabama's attrition: "We have a demanding program. I'm not talking about football. We have a personal-development aspect of our program. We create the right kinds of habits. We spend a lot of time and money and effort trying to create ... personal characteristics from the players on our team. We have demands. We have players who don't meet those demands. We have a demanding academic system. There are playing who don't meet that. None of these players are leaving because of the football player they are. I tell the players: `I don't want you to leave, but you have to be satisfied with your role on the team.'" I don't know how these things get out. I only address these things when we start fall camp. We have some players who will be grayshirted and know they will be grayshirted. We have some who will be suspended."
- "I'm not a big statistical guy."
- On wearing an LSU shirt for the movie: "I hope our fans understand that it's a movie based on a historical event. It's no disrespect to LSU or anybody at LSU. We have a tremendous amount of respect for our fans at University of Alabama. We wanted to do that in the right way for LSU and the fans at University of Alabama."
- On Alabama's loss in the SEC championship game: "Florida didn't win the game (because) of our lack of execution. They made the plays they needed to make. That's the way you want to win a game."
- "You are the conduit to all the fans to the players and the program. We thank you for that."
THAT'S A WRAP. Next up is Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt at 11:15ish.

Shake N Bake!
Can't wait to read this...
I hate UAT but love Substance!
Good work Sean
first you shake it....then you bake it!
doesn't that just blow your mind?
Love the crimson helmet with the numbers at the top of HABOTN..
Enjoy it while it lasts, Steve. It's not going to stay up there long.
I know..Just took a screenshot.
Old school Adam Sandler movies were awesome, Jay G! Don't hate!
damn damn damn, i hate posting on this thread
Finally...I couldn't get this page to load all morning.
So what enlightening tidbits will Dr. Saban share with us this morning?
Morning all Hotties!!!! Big recruiting day. I have a feeling that there will be big news today, but not from O-town. Sorry.
The crowd was hushed when told of Saban's proximity.
Hee hee
The crowd was hushed...
Give me a break!
BigEZ posting while the sun is up! It's a big day, indeed!
Did they have a booster seat set up so he could speak at the podium?
Jay G. don't throw your tie up on stage. Simma...
is the secret service there?
And as Saban entered the room, his feet rose from the ground and he ascended to the podium.
Hey MonDiesel, my favorite Hawtie. Yes, thank you, off work today and like I said big news today!!!
Did Saban just try and make a joke?
Ask Saban what his strength coach has done to cut down on the amount of man boobs acquired by his lineman, like Andre Smith from last year.
Is the Darth Vadar theme playing while he walks
.....and all of the diet coke was turned into wine and Dreamland ribs fell from the heavens....
Are they gonna announce he has left the building when it is over?
BigEZ,
Big news for Auburn?
Ask Saban, did Jimmy Johns get a job at a Splenda plant?
Mon being called out by Karen.
AU1- No, but I heard the Spaceballs theme playing.
R U guys watchin this on ESPNU?
If they played Elvis's CC Rider and put a cape on him while he was on one knee that would be the shizzznit.
stop fantasizing, wtc
I DON'T HAVE ESPNU YET!! I will have it by the fall I have been told.
We have a winner in the Who Can Say Less With More award.
Exactly...
Jay, ask Saban why Kenny Stabler looks like Doc Brown from Back to the Future.
Saban is great at saying exactly what he wants to say..
which is nothing.
AU,
I just found ESPNU on Directv 614
Yeah Cincy, unfortunately Corey Grant is going to announce his intent to play for UA today but I think we may get a gift to. Just sayin.
Name dropper!
Fingers crossed EZ
"When I worked with Bill Belichick, we only had one sign in the building. It said: `Do Your Job"
I'd be willing to bet there was another sign somewhere in the building. Probably a restroom sign, and exit sign, and maybe a diversity motivational poster.
Let your hands do the talkin coach.
I am hoping it pops up on ESPNEWS
BigEZ- You must be hinting at Goodwin
Can't believe I just heard Saban blame the Sugar Bowl loss on Andre Smith
Good one Michael, also a sign that said we are filmin everything..
Who is going to be our gift, EZ?
I like how Saban refers to the program as the "orginization" like in pro sports. I guess he must believe since Alabama is already paying the players that they need to get the lingo down also. Leaving Miami to head to bama was like a lateral move without any salary cap restrictions.
Manny Ramirez didn't take PP before grand slam....FYI.
Manny being Manny. Love it!
On quarterback Greg McElroy: "The players like him."
When someone asks me how I liked a movie, and I answer, "Well, my wife liked it," that is another way of saying I didn't like the movie.
Im so nervous I don't want to ask a question and make a fool of myself. I just don't get all the worship of anyone human not just Saban.
Eddie, Im not sayin, Im just sayin...
Jay Ask Saban did put a donation on his taxes to the Church of Latter Days Saints after he was whipped By Utah in the bowl game.
WEll BigEZ, I hope we are both right in our assumptions.
I dare you to ask him about the depth chart...
Ask if he took a pee pee unlike Manny.
Hey Saban, i bet no one thought that Tenn, Lsu, Ga, AU, Clemson were all going to drop 4 or 5 games a piece last year either.
Agree with him about the neutral site game.
who was that who just complimented Saban on his weight?
Ok, I am done with that.
I'll bet Saban was a big fan of the game show "Win, Lose, or Draw" a few years back.
BigEZ...
You play the games as they are scheduled. Can't worry about whether a team on your schedule doesn't live up to the hype.
We are Eddie, at around 11 am. sayin...
Jay, who said he looked good?
BIG - You holding out?
Just askin'
michael,
It was Finebaum..
Just kidding.
EZ, to be fair, the intimidation of having played or looking ahead to play against Saban was probably worth at least 2 or 3 losses for those teams you mentioned.
Did Saban touch anyone on the head and make them walk again? That's about all I can see left for him to accomplish.
You are right FSJ, but in 04 the SEC was down or at least that is what I heard on several occasions. Just funny to me, the teams that get the benefit of the doubt. Yeah, I brought up 04, but overall I think it's Au's fault that they have not been consistent year in and year out.
On the SEC West: "There are a lot of good teams and a lot of good returning players. There are some great coaches. Every team in our league, on our side of it, has a chance to win the championship. Auburn has good players coming back."
Oh yeah Saban!?? Well, you know.... oh wait, he complimented us. Never mind. (but does he really think Miss St has a shot at the league? Liar)
ha, ha, Michael. I do believe your right.
Michael, you know you are a great coach when you can account for more than one loss on a teams record.
Did he really just say that?
Michael ... I don't know who asked that question. I'll try to find out more later.
Michael- Don't bite, don't give into it. He's trying to work his charm on you.
I believe he did Jay...
OC he always compliments upcoming opponents.
Saban made the unusual link between people giving their lives for freedom and being able to vote freely for the All-SEC team.
Yes and losing to LaMonroe is like 9/11. Dude...
He just pulled the mic down.
Now that was funny, Jay G.
Bottom line is that the best two teams that UA played last year, they lost to them. Great year though, I'd take it right now.
What did he say?
Jay,
I think he did just say that people have fought for coaches to have the freedom to vote for the quarterback of their choosing.
Poor Saban does seem to struggle with appropriate analogies.
FREEDOM!!!! i picture Saban riding off into the sunset, sword in hand with his Mel Gibson face paint on.
Saban needs to stop trying using news and history cliches.
and George Michael music playing
Aero- thanks for doing what you do so Little Nicky can vote for All-Sec team.
"you gotta have faith, faith, faith...ahhhh."
Egomania is an obsessive preoccupation with one's self and applies to someone who follows their own ungoverned impulses and is possessed by delusions of personal greatness and feels a lack of appreciation
Hmmm......
Is this why we are in Iraq and Afghanistan?
Now it makes a bit more sense.
That's why our soldiers are overseas right now, so that Steve Spurrier can not vote for Tebow if he wants to.
New bammer fight song
uh, Kristina, now you have me worried. if you were referring to $atan i think i have a lot in common with him. yikes!
Burn Nicky burn
i need a Peach Nehi. gotta run.
No you dont Nick, there would be a stir down stairs for the Bama coach if Hanky the Christmas Poo was the coach.
Saban made the unusual link between people giving their lives for freedom and being able to vote freely for the All-SEC team.
hahahahaha!
Next he is going to compare losing the SEC championship last year to being raped by Hitler.
Scottie, maybe you should be our coach. ;-)
Miss. State always has a chance with a little more cow bell.
hey Mon, Eddie said it earlier, Goodwin Atl. WR
HA HA Andre. I got to have me some more of that Cow Bell.
" If there's not a stir downstairs, I know I'm in trouble."
That's what she said.
Maybe......
EZ,
Are we going to hear that today? Please??
I guess that is what Cranks his Tractor.
should be soon today Cincy...
Well done, Monica.
Nicky makes me itch worse than these chiggers
ha ha AU1
Personally, I think his concern about having a stirring downstairs is Freudian. I told y'all he was scared to death of failure and that's what drives him.
The only stirrin goin on in my downstairs better be for CAKE BATTER!!!
Cincy, there is another great setup, but I'll refrain.
Thanks, Sean. My fellow gutter dweller. ;-)
I like the way Saban says that every team is great, just before Bama beats the snot out of them.
Did he say that about the Utes?
I do too Andre.
Uh....what exactly are we talking about now?
Sean, the gentleman
Did he just said that players leave because they don't think they are good enough to play for UA?
Can someone please give me the Cliff Notes for that last comment?
Cincy, they leave because when they are recruited they are told one thing and then tah-dah, you can't play there kid sorry. Then they leave or he recruits someone at the same position that he thinks is better and then, you gotta go kid sorry.
Wish Corey Grant would hear that.
Corey Grant knows he can play at UA.
Who just called him Nick? Was that Ian?
Ian always calls him Nick.
New Auburn Sideline Polo's seem to finally be out:
Blue Polo
Orange Polo
If by play you mean sit in the tape room watching all the RBs and WRs make plays...then yes...he will.
Nice, Eddie
I'll take one of each Eddie.
are you ordering the navy or orange, Eddie?
Where's you HABOTN t-shirt now, faker?
Yeah. I need to invest in Under Armour. They keep jacking up the price every year. $75 for a polo is getting just a little steep.
Uh oh...the Capstone Report is serving notice.
Click if you dare or just need a laugh
Good one, Sean. Point for you.
This may be a stupid question, but what movie is he talking about?
zoo keeper..
My HABOTN t-shirt is stored properly.
Monica- Both. I'm a sucker and now that i've gone down from a XXXL to a L, I need new AU gear.
I noted the movie earlier in the blog, K.
It's "The Blind Side" ... about former Ole Miss OT Michael Oher. Saban recruited him to LSU back in the day.
Yeah..Tubs is in that movie too..right?
ESPNU commentators saying Saban wasn't asked any tough questions - almost none about his current team, all in the past and about other teams...interesting
WOOT @ new AU gear!
Go Eddie, Go Eddie
Sensi, to be fair, Slive was talking directly to Auburn and Tennessee. We know this.
Thanks, Jay
Tuberville is in the movie as well, yep.
Is the Capstone Report written by that Shane dude that always calls into Finebaum and disgraces himself as a journalist?
I bet ESPNU is as surprised as I am.
Also to be fair about secondary violations, the NCAA wrote the "Saban" rule and was talking to Alabama. Now no HC visits during the evaluations period.
Sean- You can use the capstone report to wipe after you take your shane.
Question.
TX is undefeated after the season. PSU is undefeated. UF has 1 loss.
Who plays TX in the championship?
Word, Eddie. That's an answer!
I wasn't aware those comments were that direct.
Ok.
Slive says stop that as he passes out millions of dollars in checks to each school.
Got it.
Somebody listens to Finebaum.
AU1- As much you might not believ it, PSU would probably play.
I'll be so disappointed if Kiffin contains himself.
Has Auburn reported any secondary violations? I know South Carolina reported multiple as did Florida and Tennessee.
AU1
Notre Dame
Don't think I can handle listening to Nutt on the hills of Nicky - I'm off to get a manicure and pedicure.
ND will be 10-2.
I was listening to Beano Cook on Cowherd.
They said UF due to schedule.
Sean, I don't believe they have yet. Not that they won't, but at this point I don't think so.
Yeah..don't know if I can stomach Houston either.
think that should have been "heels" :)
so cincy, do y'all talk football there, too?
AU1- I would hope Florida, and maybe now that ESPN has the huge SEC deal, they will be more pro-SEC than in recent years, but I can already hear Herbstreet crying foul if PSU is not in the game. Trust me, it would happen.
Nutts go better with coca-cola's
wow you're leaving before the real entertainment???
Hmmm....Coca-Cola. Think I will break a rule and go get one now.
Eddie ate his low cal Wheaties this mornin'!
Eddie - The comment was that PSU refuses to play Pitt. That has been a knock. I agree about the SEC and TV. Many more people will see the games up here in the North.
Is he going to wear sunglasses like on SI?
I'm done with the low cal, I actually need more cals so that I don't lose anymore weight. I don't want to look terminal.
I don't know the PSU schedule strength, but UF has one of the weakest schedules of any team in the SEC. UGA has the tuffest again this year.
Jet hates Bama relentlessly. Eddie hates Bama and relentlessly verbally pounds on them. I like all of that.
Where can we buy Bama-hatin', low cal Wheaties?
