State of the HABOTN

Hey everyone. Sorry I didn't update yesterday. News was light and I viewed a new movie at the cinema. It's called "Bruno." You may have heard of it.

Here's our first-ever State of the HABOTN address.
  • I can't believe how faithful you all have been through the offseason. June 2009 visits were up 3,000% over June 2008, which is just nutty.

  • We've had 1.7 million pageviews since Media Days 2008.

  • The biggest traffic days in HABOTN history came on 12/3/08 (Tuberville resignation) and 2/4/09 (Signing Day). Interestingly, those two events drew almost the exactly same number of visitors: 23,098 and 24,193.

  • HABOTN videos dominate. I don't track video views very closely, but those numbers easily set the Advertiser's pace. I like that.

  • We added 10 members to the Ring of Fire. Each of them are adored and loved with a vigor rarely seen since the 1820s.

So what's next?
  • Just today, I received a brand-new copy of Final Cut. That's the most powerful video-editing application created by Apple. It's one used by movie studios and television production companies. HABOTN videos are going to get more plush, but it'll take me a while to learn Final Cut's complexities.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE AND DISLIKE ABOUT BLOG VIDEOS?

I started producing videos last summer with the goal being simple: Get footage out there. I just wanted them to work. I've got that down. Are there other features/elements you'd like to see in the videos?

403 comments:

  1. the 1820s?

I can't even figure out Keynote; I am in awe of your digital media editing talents.

    ReplyDelete
  2. The 1820s were a good era for love.

    ReplyDelete
  3. sup THT... Great looking day here and am about to take the family unit out for a spin..

    ReplyDelete
  4. The Advertiser doesn't provide software or (pragmatic) training for video production.

It's a trial-and-error world for me. Your feedback last summer helped me a bunch.

    ReplyDelete
  5. From my standpoint, auto play prevents me from checking HABOTN on my BB. The page is too large for viewing.

Other than that, I love me some HABOTN.

And I hate me some UAT.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I need a dedicated mobile site. I know this.

I really need my own site, free of Blogger.com's influence. That project will have to wait a bit longer.

Auto-play is going to stay on the main site, though I have been more careful about limiting that. I switch to links after six hours or so.

  7. I read an article that Grimes thinks he has enough depth on the OL. Barring injury... I thought that was funny since only 5 OL are enough barring any injury.

    ReplyDelete
  8. anybody know when was the last time we made it through a season with the same 5 starters in the OL for every game?

    ReplyDelete
  9. I beg to differ, DL.

As opposed to the popular misconception, OL do get rotation, albiet not as much as DL. Top it off with special teams needs.

Usually 9-10 OL participate in a given game.

  10. Great work Jay, in everything to do. Please no it is appreciated.

I love the smell of freshly mown grass in the morning, ALMOST as much as I HATE BAMA!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  11. JayGT - I think you do a fantastic job editing your videos. I don't have any suggestions for additions.

    ReplyDelete
  12. maybe start off every video with the Punt Bama Punt footage, you know, to get us in the mood.

    ReplyDelete
  13. When I saw "State of the HABOTN" as the title to the blog post, I got all scared that something bad had happened, and you were gonna be like "I am laid off" or "I have been switched off the Auburn beat and am now covering the Home and Garden section." Glad to see it was good news.

    ReplyDelete
  14. The work is appreciated. There is no better place to go for credible AU news than the HABOTN.
A dedicated site would be sweet.
I wish there was a way to make the comment box float so when you scroll down the page it goes with you. It's a pain to get all the way to the bottom tobread post #180 and then have to scroll all the way back to the top to comment. It's not so bad on the laptop, but on my iPhone scrolling sucks. Are there any scolling shortcuts on the iPhone version of safari like there are in the the blackberry version of opera mini?

  16. Yes Michael, after the talk last night, the title had me worried. Always good to hear good news though.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Agree on the "floating comment box" I use an iTouch with the same problems.

I absolutely love this blog, we can passionately agree to disagree and yet all pull for the common good!

    Love Auburn!!

    Hate Bama!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Wow. Since the 1820's, huh? That's special right there.

Me too, Michael. I thought "State of the HABOTN" was prelude to a goodbye. Sniff.

I love, LOVE LOOOOOVE the videos. What I love most about the video production? The text or commentary or whatever you call it in between clips.

    ReplyDelete
  19. On iPhone, you can doubletap the time and it'll fire you back up to the top of the page. Scrolling down? No shortcut that I've found yet...

    ReplyDelete
  20. Just had two mater sammiches on wheat bread (all we had. This is an abomination, Mrs. Jet) with Duke's mayonnaise and salt and pepper.

Since Mrs. Jet left the house, I also had a spoonful of her homemade mac and cheese that she made for a friend of ours who had recent brain surgery.

Went to the EastChase market this a.m. Bought maters, peas, blueberries, peaches, and stone ground grits.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Wow, jet, you're self sufficient. MrsTHT is out most of the day. THTjr cooked himself up some hotdogs with chili, slaw, and (gag)onions.

Me? I scrounged up a bowl of cereal, some Nilla wafers, cantaloupe I found already sliced up in the fridge, and Laughing Cow cheese on Wheat Thins. Yes, I am a sad case.

I'm very much looking forward to our dinner of fresh veggies with corn bread and some chicken entree (the bird is thawing on the counter). In the meantime, I suspect I'm going to have to fix me a bowl of ice cream and chocolate syrup to help me make it through the afternoon.

p.s. Lest any of y'all have doubt, I'm busy hatin' bama all day long!

    ReplyDelete
  22. in the midst of my bama hate, I finally figured out how to turn a photo into a jigsaw puzzle with the pieces all scrambled in a pile. Yippee!
That should make for a cool party trick;-)

    ReplyDelete
  23. I never realized that Horseshoe Bend National Battlefield was only ~31 miles from Auburn. I always "pictured" it at least 60 miles north. Anybody ever visited there?

    ReplyDelete
  24. THT ...

Onions on a hot dog? A necessity.

    ReplyDelete
  25. If so, rest assured I have eaten my last hotdog.

    ReplyDelete
  26. TarHeel, I have visited Horseshoe Bend several times over the years. There is a nice walking trail with stops describing the battle that took place there, along with a visitors center with some neat attractions. IMO, not worth a trip by itself, but definitely a worthwhile stop when you are in the area.

Love me some nilla wafers straight out of the box or in Banana pudding.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Anonymous12:52 PM

Big heaps of onions... and cheese!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Anonymous12:56 PM

But right now, the last piece of apple pie with nilla icecream.

    ReplyDelete
  29. In terms of the videos, I would just prefer no autostart on the front page.
Also, giving people's names in video and adding comments in the video is pretty cool.

In terms of the format of the blog, I think it is limited by blogger.com. There are some obvious things they could change to make it easier, such as showing the posts from most recent to least recent so the scrolling issue goes away unless you want to see older posts.

The other thing would be limiting the number of posts per page. This would help the scolling issue to some degree. Instead of 200, I would say 50 would be a good number.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Jet, the mac n cheese reminds me, it was Beethoven's favorite dish.

Beethoven was the influencing factor behind the character 'Schroeder' in Charles M Schluz's comics, called peanuts. Another character, the more famous 'Snoopy' was used as the safety mascot by NASA, and NASA is about to launch a space shuttle with a Japanese porch. Dorian Porch was a back from Calhoun, GA. There's also a Calhoun County in South Carolina, from where comes OL Eric Mack, that Auburn needs.

Anyone else wants some columbian coffee?

    ReplyDelete
  31. talk about loose associations. holy cow!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I love the videos as they are. I have one idea that I think would add to the coverage during the season. Is there any way you could get a reporter that covers the opposing team to give a "scouting report" on Auburn? I don't really care to hear coach-speak from the opponent's coach, reporters are usually much more honest in their opinions, IMO. Thanks for all the great work.

    ReplyDelete
  33. depressed- thanks for that info. After 500 miles to AU, what's another 30.

    ReplyDelete
  34. JayGT - I would agree with SFC on disabling the autostart of videos. I go to HABOTN and suddenly your video sound is being broadcast all over the office at work. I don't mind the extra click. Your videos are simply outstanding.

Re: depressed's suggestion, that would be cool. But I don't care to hear any bammer reporters scouting report.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Mac and Cheese, reminds me of "Cheese," the nickname of former AU quarterback Jeff Burger, who was from Cedartown, Georgia, which is not far from my family's home of Centre, Alabama, which is the home of former AU players and brothers DB Michael Johnson and OL Brad Johnson, who chose Auburn over Notre Dame, as did Karlos Dansby, who made one of the most amazing plays in college football I've ever seen, when he flipped the ball back in bounds to Dontarrious Thomas (?) in the Peach Bowl, which amazingly looked similar to a TD scoring play executed by Auburn freshman TE Philip Lutzenkirchen, who will push for playing time from TE Tommy Trott, who is the Gump, where I had mac and cheese with my mater sammiches for lunch with Duke's mayonnaise, the favorite of mine and Ehyou, my partner in crime from HABOTN, the Hottest Auburn Blog on the Net.

    War Eagle. Hate UAT

    ReplyDelete
  36. That has to be the longest run-on sentence in HABOTN History.

    ReplyDelete
  37. i am about to head to my buddy's wedding. i played golf for the first time in a decade this morning. i shot a whopping 128. between me and my partner we lost 26 golf balls in 18 holes. it was horrible but extremely fun. i would have one fantastic shot per hole then choke it up every other shot. good times. great beer. :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. How in the world do you shoot a 128?

    You miss a putt for a 127.

I'm with ya, Scottie B. Glad you had fun.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I think I could shoot a 128, although I don't know that I could do it two holes in a row.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Untamed and Uncut is an awesome show... I have seen an idiot almost get his arm ripped off by an alligator, an idiot almost die from a cobra bite, and several other encountered (shark attacks, lion attacks, etc.)

    ReplyDelete
  41. I understand there's going to be a special "Idiot Edition" of Untamed and Uncut featuring ...

... Ben Tate running the stretch.

... Bruce Arians calling a pass on 3rd down.

... Les Miles doing all sorts of stuff.

... Jean Van De Velde playing No. 18 at Carnoustie.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Depressed: A scouting report on Auburn or on Auburn's opponent?

    ReplyDelete
  43. I really need my own site.

    That's the solution.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Hey, sorry I missed last night. Sounds like yall had fun. If Jay was to go to Bham and cover the darkside, I don't think you will find me posting on an Alabama blog. I'm no FSJ, i'm not even 40.

    ReplyDelete
  45. SteveFC- 128 two holes in a row

    That was funny!

Scottie B, I havent played golf in years, but when I do, I always break 100. You should play by THT's rules of golf. Well, there's really only one rule. Whatever is necessary to have a score <100 is legal. That could mean 1 mulligan or 7 mulligans, use of foot wedge, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Jay G- All you need is web expression and hosting. Well, a WEB guy would be nice also.

    ReplyDelete
  47. One of the things I have seen with bloggers is them having guest bloggers from other teams. For instance, you might write a blog telling LSU about Auburn and in exchange an LSU blogger would write an article about LSU for you. If you did this, I am sure you would want another reporter rather than the average blogging schmuck.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Jay, I love the videos just as they are. They're sharp, informative, witty, simple, and very enjoyable to watch. I'm sure there will be some cool features you find, and I really look forward to them and what they will add to the video blogs. Keep up the great work!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Jay, I was talking about an Auburn report from the other teams' point-of-view. We usually see reports on the opponents during game-week, I thought it would be interesting to see how the opposing teams' reporter(of your choosing)sees Auburn. Just a thought.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Ahhhhh....The HABOTN is a beautiful thing. Happy Saturday everyone.

  52. That's FANtastic news, MrDude!!! Thanks for sharing with all the Hotties!

    ReplyDelete
  53. So I had a very nice set of comments made and for some reason blogger.com didn't want me to post it.

    ReplyDelete
  54. On my previous post that didn't get posted:

Do we know that Mr Bonomolo committed our friends at AuburnUndercover.com and AUTigers.com said so?

Vids are great, like the shots of the practice and interviews with the players.

On a side note: I'd pay to have access to your site Mr JGT if thats what has to happen. As long as there is still Auburn stuff going on it. Just sayin

    ReplyDelete
  55. These sheepherders have just a wee bit too much time on their hands.

Was that Michael I saw out there?

    ReplyDelete
  56. I prefer a video that doesn't scare me to death when I'm not expecting it to start.

The other night I went to visit my parents and left the HABOTN front page up and when I came in the house it was at the time the new video was loaded and just the sound startled me.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Fantastic THT. Now how did you come across that?

    ReplyDelete
  58. Well, I guess you could say THTjr also has too much time on his hands. I have no idea where he found it. Perhaps looking for TVs (those are Samsung sheepherders)

    ReplyDelete
  59. No reporter from Scout or Auburn Undercover has confirmed the commitment ... just posters.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I think all the "official" sources are taking the weekend off, knowing they'll be busy next weekend!

    ReplyDelete
  61. some random internet site says so, so that makes it true, right?

    ReplyDelete
  62. mrdude, I had never even seen that "random" internet site before. Just the very thought of calling it Auburn Eagle is a bit disturbing. I have no reason to doubt the sincerity of their "story", but a direct quote from Mr. Bonomolo would have inspired a bit more confidence.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Or a web gal, right Eddie? ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  64. Final Cut?

    NIIIIIIIIICCCCCCCE!

I've been thinking about splurging on that myself.

Hope everyone had a great Saturday!

I spent the day cooking ribs, chicken, & pork shoulder for 35-40 folks.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Sounds great, FSU. We grilled out the last of our Omaha steaks from Christmas. Good times.

    ReplyDelete
  66. And, THT, I ate the last of my Graeter's Toffee Chip ice cream in your honor :)

Back on the diet wagon tomorrow. :(

    ReplyDelete
  67. hmmm what kind of video's are you making, Faker?

    ReplyDelete
  68. THT, that just adds to the credibility of the story. Not only does it have Auburn in the title, it also has Eagle. That's two Auburn words, thus doubling the credibility.

I'm not trying to argue that this story is legit, just noticed it and thought I would share. I also figured that if it were true that the pay sites would announce it shortly thereafter, but it turns out they didn't. I guess we'll find out soon.

    ReplyDelete
  69. A couple of LSU sites are also reporting Bonomolo's commitment to Auburn, but not sure if they just picked it up from the Auburn site.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Monica,
What kind of walking shoes did you end up getting? I have got to go and get fitted for a good pair of cross trainers. I'm getting terrible shin splints walking these Birmingham hills. You seemed pleased with yours.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Cincy - I ended up with Saucony. I LOVE them.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Did you go to a store that sells all kinds and they told you what was best for you?

    ReplyDelete
  73. Hi jhag! sup?

Cincy - you've just convinced me I need another bowl of ice cream.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I had a bowl of peaches ... then I had a little Blue Bell homemade vanilla, too.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Yes - A local guy who has his own shop. He has lots of brands in the store. He watched my walk, measured, looked at the wear on my shoes, etc. Then he pulled several pairs that I tried. After I gave him feedback on those he ordered 4 different pair and I chose the one that worked best for me.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I'm headed to Birmingham tomorrow and looks like I'll be in Prattvegas one day next week.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Monica,
Sounds awesome. I need to find something like that in B'ham. Thanks for the info.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Mon,
Are you in B'ham all week? If your schedule isn't totally packed maybe we could meet for lunch? I have a pretty flexible week except for Wed when I am playing in a Mah Jongg tourney in Gadsden.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I'd love to, Cincy! After I get there and sort of see what my sister's have planned I'll let you know.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Monica,
    Sent you an email.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Hey y'all...I just got back from a week at the beach and I got on to check out what I'd missed for a week and low and behold the "State of the Habotn" stares me in the face. Thought something bad might be happening. Way to scare the ying yang out of me. I would hate for anything to happen to my most favorite and most credible Auburn source!!!

    ReplyDelete
  82. Undercover has the commitment now.

    ReplyDelete
  83. It's a beautiful day when Bono commits to AU.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Will Bonomolo start this fall or in 2010?

    ReplyDelete
  85. I believe he will be finishing JUCO in December, so he'll be enrolled in time for spring practice

    ReplyDelete
  86. Not to seem dense, but if he is a juco transfer, why can't he come now? Hasn't he completed one year at the junior college?

    ReplyDelete
  87. I am watching UFC100. Dan Henderson just knocked out Michael Bisping. By knocked out I really do mean knocked out. He didn't move for several minutes. The ref could have counted to 1000 and he wouldn't have beat the count. Henderson hit him with a looping right and he fell like a ton of bricks and was obviously out as he fell. Henderson added one more shot as he lay prone on the grown for good measure.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Bonomolo had 10 sacks in 10 games as a freshman.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Cincy ...

Presumably he didn't qualify out of high school, which forced him to junior college, from which he must graduate, according to NCAA rules.

JUCO kids aim to graduate in December in order to transfer for the spring semester after their second football season in junior college.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Thanks, Jet. That makes sense. So many rules.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I don't see the announcement on Undercover, just that he was likely to make a decision after talking with Chizik.

    ReplyDelete
  92. PMarsh backed off his story ... it was more definitive 10 minutes ago.

    ReplyDelete
  93. anybody know how to get a malicious viral file off of a mac?

apparently my lovely wife downloaded some rogue photo from some random website and it had some kind of malicious virus attached...

    ReplyDelete
  94. PMarsh has predicted us to go 8-5, finish 3rd in the west and beat Georgia, Ole Miss, and West Virginia. He says we lose to Arkansas and Tennessee. Frankly, I find it much more likely we beat Tennessee and Arkansas than Georgia, Ole Miss, or Virginia.

    ReplyDelete
  95. JGT, other mac users... do you use ClamXAV (free virus scan software for mac)?
    Is it any good?

    ReplyDelete
  96. Bonomolo would (will be/is) a big pick up for us. His film looks pretty good. I think Chiz has asked him to hold off on announcing his commitment until next weekend (possibly why PM has backed off his earlier statement).

    ReplyDelete
  97. PMarch did tweet that Bono committed though...

    ReplyDelete
  98. and a sports site out of NO is reporing the same...
    Per Neworleans.com sports:
"JUCO DE Joel Bonomolo committed to the Auburn Tigers Saturday morning during his weekend visit.

After two year at Fullerton Community College (CA), the former All Metro and All-State Rummel Raider strongly considered Utah before deciding on Auburn.

Bonomolo is a pass rush specialist but has the capabilities of being a hybrid DE/OLB."

    ReplyDelete
  99. FYI:
If you stop on Charm School thinking it is a movie of Nelson Demille's excellent book, you are bound for disappointment.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Partner in crime....sweet.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Jhag is in Winsdor Locks, Connecticut...playing in an AAu tournament at Springfield, Mass.

    ReplyDelete
  102. You reppin' the HABOTN in ESPN's backyard?

    ReplyDelete
  103. Bonomolo's commitment will come out on ITAT and AuburnSports.com tomorrow...they do not want to report it until he meets with Chizik but he was committed this morning...

    ReplyDelete
  104. jhag the world traveler. Have you kept up on miles traveled this summer?

    ReplyDelete
  105. HAPPY BEN TAMBURELLO DAY!!!

    T-minus 55 days til kickoff.

Ben was a unanimous All-American in 1986, and made Football News All-America as a junior in 1985. In 1986 he was a finalist for both the Outland Trophy and Lombardi Award. He was also Academic All-SEC. Without a doubt, Ben Tamburello was one of Auburn's all-time great offensive linemen.

    WARRRRRR EAGLE!!!

    GO TIGERS!!!

    ReplyDelete
  106. Jhag = Jay G's agent in negotiations with ESPN?

    ReplyDelete
  107. For those of you in B'ham, Mama Goldberg's opened on Hwy 280 yesterday. Eating there after church today! Lacks the atmosphere of Auburn's Mama G's, but great food!

    ReplyDelete
  108. i hate i missed Bill Newton Day yesterday. a good friend of mine got married yesterday so all the guys played golf. it was my first 18 holes in a decade. ugly. good times, though.

and a happy BEN TAMBURELLO day to all the hotties in hottie-land. special shout out to #55 Takeo Spikes, our 1997 All-American LB. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  109. We need more players with names like Ben Tamburello. Heck, if there is a Zeke Tamburello out there, we should offer him a scholarship.

    ReplyDelete
  110. CBS 42 reported Saturday night that Lache Seastrunk was wearing USC Trojan socks at a passing camp this weekend. Seriously, it was the lead story on their sports segment and they devoted about 2 minutes to it -- it was also the highlight of all their teases throughout the evening -- "Tune in at 10, we've got exclusive footage of the nations top tailback who may have made his college decision"
This is why I dislike the flavor of extreme recruiting coverage. It's silly.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Yeah, Hornet, but Lache was wearing Auburn underoos.

That means one thing: his butt is going to Auburn.

My cousin who's best friends with his high school coach's lawn guy's babysitter told me so.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Nice call, scottie b. Tamburello vs Spikes had to be a tough call for TarHeel. I remember Robert Edwards from UGA hitting the line with a burst of power and Spikes met him head-on and just destroyed him. He was an absolute monster. Tamburello was a great player as well. This number has to be one of TarHeels' tougher choices.

    ReplyDelete
  113. At least I learned how to pronounce his name -- I thought is was pronounced "Lashay" not "Latch"

    ReplyDelete
  114. Hornet, I thought it was pronounced Lake ?

depressed - Not a tough call since extra credit goes to academic achievement, as you'll see tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  115. According to Seastrunk, his name is pronounced Lake.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Jay, I read your profile of Chizik and I find it interesting. You indicate he is more involved with the actual coaching than Tuberville was, but that he is also a CEO type. Is his involvement limited to defense, or does he try to influence the direction of the offense also?

    ReplyDelete
  117. The CBS 42 guy said "Latch"....or maybe he said "Lake"....either way it was different than the way I've said it in my mind the last few months

Like Steve Winwood sang, "Bring me an iron lung....oh-oh"

    ReplyDelete
  118. Seastrunk was also wearing an LSU shirt, but in an interview afterwards he said it didn't mean anything.

    ReplyDelete
  119. It would seem Seastrunk would know that reporters are going to make something out of any team apparel he might wear.

    ReplyDelete
  120. THT, your hint for tomorrow has me thinking LB from the early 80's who went on to bigger things than football.

    ReplyDelete
  121. depressed, get ready for a double dose.

Hotties seen this Evian skating babies commercial?

continue to learn to work with the lighting to get a clear picture...oh, and continuing to not suck like every other beat writer who thinks he's an expert videographer.

features? you know how fox does some ridiculous graphics things to hype up their segues? That would be pretty cool to see in an HABOTN production.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Kids ...

I'm about to have a BLTOC for lunch!

    Bacon!
    Lettuce!
    Tomato!
    Vidalia onion!
    Cheddar cheese!

Accompanied with Duke's mayonnaise, salt, pepper and white bread. Washed down with lemonade.

    ReplyDelete
  126. ^^ Where's the beef?

    ReplyDelete
  127. You need more meat in that sammich...

    ReplyDelete
  128. I had grilled cheese and tomato. It was sufficient.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Rummaging through the fridge I found some turkey, and it joined the fun!

Got my eye on a DQ Dip Cone for tonight.

  131. I would like to start a fund raising campaign to help out one of our long time hotties, namely depressedAUfan. Can we all pull together in a show of that warm loving Auburn family spirit and get depressedAUfan a new nick. I have been doing some research and I believe optimisticAUfan is available. I will settle for notdepressedAUfan.

    ReplyDelete
  132. Even thefanformerknownasdepressedAUfan would do, but it seems a bit lengthy.

  133. ^^ I second that motion.

  134. I don't remember if this has been posted recently or not but I talked to a source close to the Auburn program and was told that Dax Dellenbach had his scholarship pulled and is back home in Florida. In addition, I have the details of Thompson and company's departure from the team if anybody would like me to rehash the story.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Go for it, AU1892. It would give us something to talk about, on an otherwise slow day.

I have mixed feelings about pulled scholarships.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Mr Bonomolo should teach Auburn the Haka

    ReplyDelete
  137. Why would Dax have his scholarship pulled? I expected long snapper to be one of the strengths of the team and positions with the most depth. Now, if we have a rash of long snapper injuries, we are in trouble.

  138. Sandwich talk? I love it.

I had me one with fried bologna and tomato after church today. Of course, Dukes mayo, salt & pepper go without saying.

Fresh tomatoes is one of the few redeeming qualities of summer in the south.

  139. Don't know if it's happened, but if I were Dax's daddy, I think I would have prepared him for this likelihood after the coaching change.

In the economy of college football, when you won five games last year, and you've got a new coaching staff, a deep snapper on scholly is likely one of the first ones out the door.

    ReplyDelete
  140. maybe he was only snapping it 14 yards ;-)

Jet - MrsTHT loves dip cones.

I just polished off a big bowl of fresh peaches. I'm guessing it was really a peach tree, not an apple tree. How could anyone resist a sweet juicy peach?

    ReplyDelete
  141. Ehyou,

Mrs. Jet won't let me have fried bologna, but 2-3 times a year she goes outta town, and well, what Mama don't know ...

    ReplyDelete
  142. I do hope there was a better reason than that to take away a kid's education. That wouldn't be keeping with the Auburn spirit at all.

    ReplyDelete
  143. Besides, I think have scholarships available isn't our issue. Being limited to 25 commits is the big deal. Any player we have at this point, we need to keep. There is another issue. It can actually cost us scholarships by not having the players graduate. So, in effect, losing a player cost scholarships too.

  144. Steve,

My son starts school five weeks from tomorrow at Auburn. At the end of the spring semester, if his grade point isn't 3.0 or better, he loses his scholarship.

If his grade point average is 2.99 at the end of the spring semester, his Spirit of Auburn scholarship is no more.

    Life's tough.

    ReplyDelete
  145. Apparently Thompson and Co. had been acting up in class so the professor called Chizik and left him a 2 minute voicemail about how disrespectful some of his players were in the class. The phone call prompted Chizik to play the voicemail for all of the players to hear to tell them this kind of stuff better not happen again. This incident coupled with missing a few workouts caused Thompson and Co. to be kicked off the team.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Steve, thanks to you and Aeronaut for the support. Hopefully, I will one day come up with a new name, but I am very much a creature of habit. Plus, with my(lack of) computer skills, it will take me a month after I decide on a name to figure out how to change it.

    ReplyDelete
  147. Jet, there is a huge difference there. That is based upon what YOUR son did to lose HIS SCHOLARSHIP. That is different than just kicking a kid off the team to make rumor for someone else. That is very bammeresque.

    ReplyDelete
  148. I see it as one in the same Steve. To keep your academic scholarship you have to have a 3.0 and to do that you must perform well in the classroom. I believe that if you aren't pulling your weight on the football field then you should rightfully have your scholarship pulled. Keep in mind that athletic scholarships aren't 4 year scholarships, they are year to year.

  149. Back formthe mountains. Great trip. Photos go on FB later tonight.

Family wanted to stop by Mercier Orchard in Blue Ridge for a fried apple pie.

Jet-If daughter does not keep her grades up, her 'build your own scholly' will be taken away by me.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Dax comes from a decently well to do family. I have no idea what's going on behind the scenes though.

I also don't think they pulled the scholarship to make room for anyone. Auburn can't sign another guy for 09 season. They could've waited till the end of season to yank his scholarship to make room for the next recruiting class.

Some more deserving walk-on might get that scholarship. If Clinton Durst can work at subway (figuratively speaking) and play walk-on, I don't see why Dax, son of an NFL player, can't.

  151. Athletic schollies are basically 1 year contracts that can be renewed at the end of each year... you know going into things that you are not guaranteed 4 years if certain circumstances arise. I'd be willing to bet that Dax was fully aware of this prior to accepting his scholly.

    ReplyDelete
  152. Anonymous6:04 PM

DM...I knew that baseball and most schollys other than football were year to year and can even be a % of a year. Any D1 football schollys that I've been around were for 4 years provided that there wasn't a conduct, grades or effort issue. Actual productivity is not a reason scholly removal.

I'm even aware of guaranteed 4 year baseball schollys that weren't subject to withdrawal due to performance.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Hoopie, Football scholarships are renewed yearly, and are based on athletic ability. You don't perform on the field, you lose scholarship.

    Title:15.3.5.1 - Institutional Obligation.
The renewal of institutional financial aid based in any degree on athletics ability shall be made on or before July 1 prior to the academic year in which it is to be effective. The institution shall promptly notify in writing each student-athlete who received an award the previous academic year and who has eligibility remaining in the sport in which financial aid was awarded the previous academic year (under Bylaw 14.2) whether the grant has been renewed or not renewed for the ensuing academic year. Notification of financial aid renewals and non-renewals must come from the institution's regular financial aid authority and not from the institution's athletics department.

  155. I like the videos on the blog (because MA can't handle non-microsoft) however autoplay is not fun.

I think the Autoplay is MA's embedding stuff. Videos embedded from youtube etc don't have to autoplay.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Did I see a Frankenbummer sighting earlier today? How goes it, Peter?

    ReplyDelete
  157. Tuberville non-renewed a few when he came on board. It happens.

I will give Dax the benefit of the doubt and presume that he's a fine young man. But long snappers on scholarship that haven't seen the field don't keep them.

  167. Cincy ...

Saw it another site ... he's had cancer for a while ... they recently named the new student writing center in his name, which I took as a clue that he was not doing well.

  168. The Final Cut

Pink Floyd album released 1983. Only PF album to not feature keyboardist Richard Wright. Album dominated by Roger Waters and also his last as a member of PF. It turned into a Waters anti-Faulklands War concept album. It is middling at best.

    2.5/5 stars.

Thanks for the info. I hadn't seen that anywhere yet.

I see where the Article 15 requires yearly notice to the student-athlete, but I don't see that it prohibits 4 year guarantees. If it does, should I report the offending institutions for offers to recruits that are in violation of Article 15.3.5.1?..haha.

  175. There’s nothing nefarious about Dontarrious. Carr 54 where are you?

Selecting today’s co-honorees was a no-brainer. In fact, it's all brainy. Dontarrious Thomas and Gregg Carr were great linebackers for Auburn. Carr was All-American and both were All-SEC. More importantly, both men were Academic All-Americans, the only 2 non-kickers from Auburn to receive that honor in the past 25 years. But most impressively, they are the only 2 Auburn players in the past 45 years to win National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete Awards.

All hail brains over brawn! All hail Dontarrious! All hail Gregg!

T-minus 54 days til kickoff!!! War Eagle and Go Tigers!!!
