Days to kickoff: 30
Our THT's Auburn Minute is brought to you by the number:
30
Mr. Agee probably grew up eating Chilton County peaches -YUM!!!-if not, he missed out on a golden opportunity. The Maplesville native is the youngest of 4 brothers. He arrived in Auburn in the fall of 1982.
After a redshirt year, he was Auburn's fullback during the 1983-86 seasons. His primary responsibility was clearing holes for the likes of Bo Jackson and Brent Fullwood, but he was also pretty darn good at toting the pigskin. Although tailbacks got most of the carries, Mr. Agee averaged a healthy 4.9 yards/carry and accumulated 1,735 yds rushing in his Auburn career. That's good enough for 17th on Auburn's career rushing list. He also led Auburn in kickoff returns in 1986.
Two games in particular stand out in my memory, both of which were during his redshirt freshman year. Late in the 1983 season, Auburn faced and defeated top 10 teams in 3 consecutive games. The second of those games was against the Maryland Terrapins, led by Boomer Esiason. Mr. Agee gutted the turtle defense for 219 yards and 2 TDs in a 35-23 Auburn win.
In the Sugar Bowl against Michigan, a team with one of the nation's top defenses, Mr. Agee piled up 93 yards on 16 carries, accounting for half the real estate on Auburn's 63 yd game-winning drive late in the 4th quarter.
In 1987, Mr. Agee graduated from Auburn with a degree in Criminal Justice and Youth Services, and was drafted in the 5th round by the Seattle Seahawks. Before he retired from the NFL, he had won two Super Bowl Rings as a member of the Dallas Cowboys.
For the past decade he and his lovely wife and 3 children have lived in Opelika. He is a life member of the Auburn Alumni Association (are you?). He is Director of the Covington Recreation Center and Ass't Director of Opelika Parks & Recreation Department. In 2010 he will assume the prestigious post of President of the Alabama Recreation & Parks Association. He has also served as a Deacon of the Greater Peace Missionary Baptist Church where he has been Director of the Youth Connection Ministry.
How about some shout outs for other #30s? The floor is open ...

THT, where are you????????
Well done scottie.
That's what I get for reading an article. Good one too.
ratcheer, Scottie B!
Does anyone have a word about Albert?
Justin Albert is GONZO. Buh-bye.
JGT - I read that. It is interesting to me that he performed so well in the Spring and fans were excited. Then poof!
So I am curious as to what had people heard since there is no official comment.
Nice work by THT and Agee.
Justin Alberts will not be asked back. Look for him to show up at another institute of higher learning. Maybe UNA.
Kody Bliss was #30 in 2004. Just sayin'
He ran into some off the field issues.
Darn that college life.
ah, Kody Bliss!!!! i can't believe he slipped my mind.
i've heard really good things about Tommie Agee. he sent me a signed Dallas Cowboys card last year. he's real high on my list. ;)
thanks AU1 - 3 cheers definitely deserved for Kodi Bliss!
Just being a loyal fan.
that emory blake sounds like a smart kid on the vid's.
Tommie Agee, one of my favorite players. From a small 1-A school in Maplesville to 2 Super Bowls, a very long way.
A good guy.
So I guess I've relegated my very sunshine pumper-esque thoughts on this season, to let's just survive long enough to make it Nashville for the bowl game. Nashville because I hold season tix to the Titans and I get dibs on my seats for the bowl game.
I went to Nashville when we played Wisconsin. It was fun.
Justin Albert, coming to a fast food restaurant near you. I can't believe the kid was so much wanting to be at Auburn, but apparently couldn't keep himself out of trouble. Next!!!
Good job THT on a great guy who played football. One of the best human beings to take part in the real America's game.
If we keep losing players we may have to go to 6 man football and skip this years SEC race. Only 71 scholarship players now that ain't good.
I don't think we should make light of anyone's situation, considering we do not know what happened and what were the circumstances behind it.
Justin Albert is a good kid, and he liked Auburn. I wish him a good future, wherever he ends up pursuing it.
If you love Auburn, you represent it well. Apparently Mr. Albert had issues. Chizik corrected them. Next!!!
I don't know what happened with Albert but in this day and time with all the communication and hullabaloo about these kids who do stupid things one would think they would wise up. Do they think at all? I just don't understand why.
Justin Albert was always a nice guy when I met him, however, he might have gotten into trouble since he hung out with Dunn Dunn City sometimes.
Except for bammers that are kicked off the team.
Those, you can always make fun of.
I remember Agee in the '84 GA game. 9 rushes for 117 yds.
JayGTs MA article today - good reading!
I think Aero posted a link to some photos on al.com.
Random observations:
Benton catches the ball away from his body with arms extended and eyes on the ball, nice. Glad Knox isn't there to mess him up, Ihope he is the real deal.
Kodi is shown throwing the ball with his fingers nowhere near the laces. Does he always do that?
Mosely needs a year or two with Yox.
Kody Bliss was the first one that came to my mind. Somehow #30 hasn't been too big at Auburn, even with all the running backs. I can think of a 21, 22, several 23's, 24, 27, a bunch of 32s, 33, 34 (duh), even 44 and 48.
I'm even drawing a blank on DBs wearing #30. Let's see what John Douglas does with it.
Hi jonesy - do you know if "Chuckie" Ellis still professoring in EE?
Big Bird...I immediately noticed Benton's proper had position also. It would gripe me to no end to watch Knox warming the WRs up before a game....allowing them to cradle the catch off their pads with elbows firmly glued to their ribs. He would chew his gum and chit-chat with them.
Coach Trooper don't play that game.
Hopefully TT will be able to unlock a lot of hidden talent in our existing WR's that Knox hid and burried within themselves.
I agree that TT won't tolerate bad fundamentals but considering it was his first practice I think Benton is just naturally skilled and/or has had proper coaching. Maybe it will rub off on everyone else.....
agee rocked! my mom was born just up the road from maplesville (little hamlet called isabella) and agee was always kind enough to come hang out with her students at wrights mill elementary. i was fortunate enough to be at both the games tht referenced. boomer had huge numbers but auburn's d never broke. our o dominated the scoreboard. we left the michigan game knowing that we went in #3 and #1 and #2 had lost. so we were national champs for a few hours until the polls came out.
I was also at the Maryland game. Sitting behind me were two 50ish women who were AU fans. They had clearly enjoyed themselves prior to the game and I presume were continuing to enjoy their favorite liquid refreshment during the game. At one point when AU had the ball, one of the old women was cheering "Defense, Defense" the other old women smacked the fool out of her and said "It's Offense you dumb b****!"
Classic.
Keep Hate Alive.
I don't think I'm making this up. I seem to remember Mr. Agee having a 200+ game, including a 70ish yard TD, in a 56-20 (or so) beat down of the FSU Seminoles. Can somebody look this up?

"Also, please pick up the Advertiser's print edition if you live around here! Our fine Auburn coverage is only one element of our award-winning product."
JayGT - I don't suppose Gannett print/distribute the MA like they do USA TOday? If they would drop a MA in my driveway every morning I'd subscribe, even if I had to pay extra. But I don't really want to get a 4 day old newspaper in the mail
A thread without HABOTN Ladies is like a day without sunshine. And it's cloudy outside.
Great article, JGT.
Thanks, THT for linking it. This is DAY 111 of the kitchen renovation. I dropped by for a quick peek while syncing podcasts for my iPod.
Keep up the good work. Hate Bama.
It was 1985. AU 59 - FSU 27.
Can't find his yardage but I know it was alot because I was watching him run all over the place. It was significant because Bo was supposed to be getting the yards. But not that day. It was Tommie's day.
Lord ... I'm starting to remind myself of David Housel.
Is there some limit on the number of QBs you can have on roster? I guess only 85 QB scholarships at most. Auburn By Beaver is saying we have offered 3 QBs for the 2011 class. I hope they aren't planning on signing more than one.
Sunshine! Hi AUMom.
Watch out Norm...you're stepping on toes! Of course back in '83 I thought 50 was old too!!!!
==========================>
Things that give you hope!
50 is old. Of course, 45 is young. I am convinced that youth depends upon how old you are relative to me.
missinit - back then I thought my current age was old, I'll be 45 next month. So now, 50ish is nothing.
Norm, you're still just a kid. MrsTHT and I were also at the MD game, sitting in the East stands up high. There were no suites or upper deck on the East side back then.
The guys Somewhere in Section 25 have a wonderful open letter to Kirk Herbstreet. It also addresses the ignorant drunk heckler that shouted at Jacobs at the airport. It also includes a clip of the Chiz's arrival in Auburn. War Eagle!!!
Norm, I'm just kidding... It actually made me laugh. I could see myself! Fast forward it to today and it could be me and my best friend from college. She didn't know squat about football and depended on me for info. I grew up in a macho infested family so sports was a given......might haved added to one of the many reasons I married a football coach!!!!
Missinit - no worries, I certainly took no offense. If my wife and I went to a game with another couple, I can assure you that my wife wouldn't know anything about what was going on during the game. For two reasons; one, she's not a sports fan and two, she and the other wife would spend the entire game chatting it up. So, my wife could very well be the one who got slapped in a similar scenario.
In some ways, I like how we have a relatively small team. After last season, they have to have the us against the world mentality. In these situations, every player has to know that not only does he need to get better, but he needs to encourage his teammates. There is no room for someone to skate by. Believe in yourself and your teammates and the numbers thing will work itself out. Currently, depth at linebacker seems to be the only glaring problem, especially if Eguahoweveryyouspellit will be a good DE option.
So what's better than being at work on Thursday and coming back from lunch and discovering a Marble Slab sundae bar at the office?
Awww...less than a month to kick-off.
Something good needs to happen this fall...
JGT...
Don't know if you've noticed (or care), but links to your articles have been appearing frequently in Chris Low's blog. Getting recognized by ESPN personnel....yet another step toward the inevitable (wink).
sean...
My Marble Slab experience:
I walked into one once, saw the prices, put my jaw back in place and walked back out. I would assume it's very good.
Jay T's got something going on with ESPN?!? :)
Well THE MAN is paying for it today, so I'm eating it with a smile on my face...
Anyone see Jet latey or has he crashed and burned?
I used to go to cold stone creamery, right across the Aerospace building. Miss that stuff.
Jet might be reading the healthcare reform bull. I mean bill.
1200 pages.
Ahhhhhhhhh my pic is back. I feel like a hottie again.
Check it, I just figured out I can reform my own healthcare. I made a call and had my ish adjusted to better suit my needs. And guess what, that didn't take an act of congress.
Our friend Jet is at a "conference" in Panama City.
Jet is flying Miss Daisy.
Any chance Jay replaces Herbstreet on Game Day?
We can only hope Steve
Seanzie, what's an ish?
If I recall correctly, Jet is participating in an "18 part environmental study". Very important stuff.
Luv ish=stuff
Hi Luv! I was wondering the same thing.
I've never heard that before. The only time I've ever heard "ish" is in reference to time. I.E.: I'll meet you there around 5-ish."
Hi, TarHeel!
Health Care Plan?
Luv & THT...
I recommend the Urban Dictionary. Helps to keep up with what those crazy kids are saying nowadays.
What Auburn QB is on the cover of sports illustrated? I got this from The War Eagle Reader.
I just googled "ish" and, mrtommyd, you actually used a nicer definition than the Urban Dictionary.
SteveFC - Jason Campbell? Pat Sullivan?
Yeah, you can some edumacation in the Urban Dictionary. LOTS of new definitions and interpretations.
surely you didn't mean current QB
It is a family blog Luv :)
There was definitely a reason I didn't include the word current:)
What would be just as satisfying as an Iron Bowl victory this season?
an Iron Bowl victory next season
Hmmm, how about Tracy Rocker bitch slapping James Willis?
I have no comment on ESPN or any dealings I may have had with the network.
rats, this time I wasn't going to miss an opportunity to be the Beasley poster...work got in the way. Congrats JGT!
Jay G. Tate doesn't deny ESPN Game Day job!!!

speaking of AU QB's in SI covers, Jimmy Sidle was on the cover of the 1964 college football preview magazine and J.Campbell was on the cover of the SI Special Edition for the 2004 team.

Afternoon, everybody. I just heard from what's probably a non-credible source that there is talk of moving the AU-WVU game to Thursday night. Anybody else heard anything like that? I seriously doubt that it's true, but thought I'd ask.
Also, starting Monday I will be offering AU chocolates for 1/2 price until the start of the season. I'm announcing it first here, so any HOTTIES who are interested will be at the front of the line.
Sitting on my balcony enjoying the awesome weather in Orange Beach! Just finished catching up on everything from yesterday morning - y'all have been busy.
Scott Chocolate, my kids loved the Auburn chocolate. Thought it was very original and want me to get more for a tailgate. Thanks!
And, Scottie B, they were most impressed with my HABOTN t-shirt. Although they still laugh that their almost 50 year old mom posts to a sports blog. They just don't realize how cool I am!
There are entirely too many LSU fans down here. The place is crawling with them.
Check in with you later. Can't wait to hear more about Auburn now that practice has actually started!
DL:
Forgive my insolence but you may be thinking of Harry Adams who has moved around a bit. Darvin has always been a WR.
Jay G has learned wisely from the Tuberville School of Job Raises. Don't comment about anything of that sort.
Steve- I've got my Jason Campbell SI Cover Issue right here. Nice short piece on him and having the most pressure of any player in the NFL as camp opens.
Great - glad they liked them, Cincy.
THT, thanks for the Agee write-up. Another of my favorites! I loved that MD game.
BIG BIRD...
DOH!! You are 100% correct.. I am losing it...
Scott Choco...
Just went out to the web site... pretty cool choco..
keep rockin' the HABOTN tee Cincy! you're cool to us!
Scottie B- You have an L or XL's tee's left?
Thanks, DL. I would have sent you some samples over with Clinton, but thought your failing health might restrict your sweets intake. Maybe next time!
1 or 2 Larges Eddie. that's it!
If you have one left for Fan Day, bring it down with you and i'll trade you cash money for it.
nothing better than straight cash money homey!
DL: It happens to all of us in all of the excitement of the start of fall practice.

Scouting report from folk who've seen Mississippi State practice: they look horrible. They are really not built to run that scheme yet and seem either disorganized or very very basic. They have hopes for the future but are not expecting much this year. (This information is primarily from the Spring and some team activities this summer.)
They hate Saban too, by the way.
Great, google still doesn't translate Michael language for me. Google needs to get on the stick. I think he just called us a bunch of losers.
I love gibberish.
Well, if you look carefully, Michael obviously said "Fannin Todd sad Donkey Goatfarms".
This is 100% off topic but I noticed it and thought I'd point it out to you fine folks. Since I'm in California every other week for the next several months, I'm working from home a lot during the weeks when I'm in Georgia. So now I'm working in the basement with the big screen going on Fox News. Shepherd Smith just closed his interview with Jeff Sessions with "hotty toddy".
There you go. Now we all share that useless bit of information.
More useless information to follow when Queen Michael arrives.
I just did Salary Crunch on ESPN. This is how long it will take Eli to earn my salary.
.08 Games
1.32 Completions
14.81 Passing Yards
.1 TD Passes
You will need to work 218.57 years in order to make Eli Manning's annual salary.
That makes me feel swell.
Well, I see the Queen is already here.
You never know when the Queen might pop up. YOU NEVER KNOW!!! I don't know why I yelled that.
So, the moral there is, we should always be on our best behavior in case the Queen may be around.
you guys make me laugh.
I really dislike fox news.
Yeah, and the other moral I was trying to relay is to change your underwear at least bi-daily. I don't know if I communicated that well.
What an idiot! Look at #1 and #4. Be sure to read #4 closely.
Franklin Borges
#4 .. Al Borges .. LSU?
Stuff I'm told from people in AU:
Albert was one of the kids caught up in the mess with the others that were dismissed. PPL was also. As was Henderson. One has done what he needed to do to get back in the graces.
May lose one more player when summer semester grades are posted. (non-contributor)
Yep, Borges did a hell of job at LSU. I'll bet they were also sorry to lose his wife as an employee of their athletic department.
I hate CNN MichaelJanTerry.
You too aeronaut
Good for you, Sensi!
I find CNN more tolerable, personally. They all have an agenda, but Fox doesn't even try to hide it.
Fox has Hotties....they report, I decide.
I actually don't watch any TV news in general, when I say CNN, I am talking of CNN.com.
That is, of course, when I am not checking the MA's website for all my news needs... of course I check there first.
Everyone, stop wasting your hate on anything but bama. Come on people, we are in season now. Time to get the hate focused and directed squarely at bama!!!!!!
For the record, I hate bama!!!!!
CNN is for commie socialist pigs. FOX is for evil big business types. The only reliable news comes from the Cobert Report.
Let me see if this works.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpmCnhGIfec&feature=channel_page
I laughed my a__ off
I got plenty of hate to around, Eddie$.
Part of me feels sorry for Bammer. Their world is a month away from crashing down hard. Then the other part of me feels warm inside.
Does that make me less of a person that I hope all other SEC teams epic fail?
you cannot feel sorry for the bammer. it reduces your volume of hatred exponentially. once you attribute to the bammer human features, almost all hatred is lost.
digger...
It worked fine and it was hilarious.
Pretty funny, Digger. I had to watch a few of the other episodes while I was there. Did you see the one where Layla asked Lane to wear a Tim Tebow uniform in the bedroom?
FYI: Sunny day in Auburn and practice will begin as scheduled.
That's 4:50 p.m. CDT.
Heaven help them... the first 10 minutes will take place during Puppet Hour.
Sunny days
Moving the clouds away
Can you tell me how to get how to get to HABOTN street?
I hate myself for that...
so, we're just one hour away from AU practice #2. i see a new thread in our future.
Glad you guys liked it.
And yes Scott Chocolate there are some other funny ones on ther.
Michael, can you arrange for an evil army of puppets (or goats) to attack the AL Dept of Revenue and get my income tax refund? Is anybody else dealing with this ish? (thanks for the new word, Sean!) If no puppets or goats are available, perhaps I can get up a posse of Coach Rocker, AC, Ziemba, Eltoro, Coach Yox, and Mr. Crabs to help me get me money.
Crabs = Krabs
