Eddie, when they sold off the old lockers during the renovation a couple years ago i snagged one. it looks pimp in the corner.

I really didn't want to mention the Pat Sullivan being 7 thang, but while we are at it, there are 3 numbers that are retired at Auburn: 7-Sullivan, 88-Beasley, 34-some dude named Jackson. In my opinion 74 should also be retired because of probably the best linemen to every play at Auburn, Rocker.

Fan - There is some confusion as to the origin of the word fan. Paul Dickson, in his Dickson Baseball Dictionary, cites William Henry Nugent's work that traces it to fancy, a 19th century term from England that referred mainly to followers of boxing. It was originally shortened to fance then just to the homonym fans. The word emerged as an Americanism around 1889. Many assume that it's a shortened version of the word fanatic, and the word did first become popular in reference to an enthusiastic follower of a baseball team. (Fanatic itself, introduced into English around 1525, means "insane person". It comes from the Modern Latin fanaticus, meaning "insanely but divinely inspired". The word originally pertained to a temple or sacred place [Latin fanum, poetic English fane]. The modern sense of "extremely zealous" dates from around 1647; the use of fanatic as a noun dates from 1650.) However, the term "fancy" for an intense liking of something, while being of a different etymology, coincidentally carries somewhat the same connotation as "fanatic".

OKay, off on weird subject. I just got a call from my dog's animal clinic. They were reminding me of his appointment monday. They asked that I also bring a fecal sample so they can test it. Has anyone ever had a vet ask for that?

My response? I will bring a fecal sample. It will be in the dog.

The herd is good. I have not had to buy feed all summer, as I re-routed a nearby creek to irrigate the fields they live in. Probably illegal, but it saved me a ton of money. Gotta work on my trash talk for the coming season. So far I will go with "my defensive line coach can kick your defensive line coach's butt".

1:08 PM
Blogger AUNugget said...

i would maybe agree with that about the offense, but i think the defense just broke. you can't have your defense on the field for 45 min a game and expect them to be too productive. i thought they did well considering....except the second half of the wva game. and the iron bowl.

1:09 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

Last years defense was one of the better ones we have had and I would be happy with a defense like that any season.

As for the offense, discipline isn't a word that would immediately come to mind to describe it.

Agreed Steve, I think you can make a case against all three teams that year, but most especially OU. My only problem with SC was that when they struggled to beat a mediocre (at best) UCLA team by five points, their effort that day was hailed as Championship material while we were dissed a couple of weeks earlier from only beating Bama by 8 (and that after they scored a late TD). Not to mention that our ten point victory over UT (a ten win team that season) was treated like a letdown on the same day that USC pulled a rabbit out of the hat to beat the Bruins.

USC plays mostly PAC 10 teams, not quite the powerhouse of the SEC.

Two of those Top 10 teams were Ohio State ranked #1 (that was certainly impressive).

I don't like them. They beat us soundly in 2003, I understand that but that doesn't mean I think they are worthy of the rankings they get now.

Here is a MA article on Todzilla. Jay, did you right this? I don't see the author listed.

USC had a very good team in 2004. I don't know if we would have beat them, but we would have done much better than that train wreck which was Oklahoma.

I agree with Steve. We would have played USC far closer than Oklahoma did...however I don't think we would have beaten them.

No doubt that the PAC-10 is weaker than the SEC. If you put SC in the SEC, their dominance becomes a lot more fragile and Florida is definitely the program of that past three or four years. That said, Carroll is 4-0 against SEC teams with a combined score of 167-48.

Compare and contrast Auburn's recruiting area versus USC's.

USC is surrounded by UCLA, Stanford, Cal, San Diego State.

Auburn is surrounded by Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee.

So, lets lay some money down. I would take the 4 teams surrounding Auburn over the teams surrounding USC pretty much any season.

jhag - that's right.

I just looked at 2 years ago during middle of fall practice
8/24 and 8/25... Only 1 blog each day. 8/24 got 4 posts (half of which were by JGT) and the following day got a 50% boost to 6 total posts. I hate to think of all I've missed!

So I've been getting this message all afternoon:

"We're sorry...

Apparently there is an engineer somewhere on my network spamming blogger.com. Who knew?

Looking at the past convo... USC's praise is deserved. They would have multiple championships if they didn't screw up against incredibly inferior opponents at least once a year. I'd say they are above Florida right now as the top program in the country.

I mean seriously, check out their nonconference schedule + results the last few years. It's unbelievable.

nanoseconds aren't real, THT. I don't believe in a time unit that I can't count in.

I also don't believe in number I haven't counted to. Thus, I deem all numbers above 1,689 to be fake.

Another discontinuity is this: do I own a sheep farm or a goat farm? If you had asked me a few months ago, I would have said, "Wel..... ehhh... let me go check." But now I will just say I have always owned both. So never mind, no goof to see here. I have always owned both a sheep farm and a goat farm!

Feeling quite conferred ... have I missed anything?

My computer had no signal in my room, so I was, amazingly, with tech-blocked for close to 72 hours.

The much beloved HABOTN videos made it impossible for me to check in on the Dingleberry.

So I'm further out of the loop than I've ever been. Has Justin Albert looking?

I had a dream last night. A bunch of Hotties were in a board room. Mon was there, so was FSJ. Jay G was at the front of the table. I was toward the back. Then across from me I realized Jet had shown up! He didn't usually come to the HABOTN board meeting! So we were all excited about that. It seems like Jet had a lot to say, but I don't really remember what.

So Jay G was talking, going over business items or something, and then it was his wife's turn to talk. It was the first time for me to see his wife (who I have never seen a picture of in real life), and she was really quite attractive in my dream. I wondered if Jay G would appreciate it if I mentioned it to him that his wife was attractive or if he would be really offended. I sat there wondering that for awhile, I must have been distracted, because then something horrible happened...

It was apparently a lunch meeting, and I had a hot dog. I looked down, and someone had taken the hot dog out of my bun and eaten some of it, and then they put it back in my bun. I was livid. FSJ started laughing at me (I have no idea what FSJ looks like, but I knew it was him in my dream). I was like, "Haha, very funny!"

And then I woke up and was like, "I hope I remember this dream tomorrow so I can post it." And then I remembered it and posted it. The end.
