After Jetgate, Mr. Lowder employed the CEO art of stealthy disinformation, all in an effort to avoid the appearance of interference. The interference after Jetgate was real and all aimed at turning the fans against CTT. Such efforts were successful.

As far as the future...JGT has already stated that he is a powerful man and will continure to wield influence. JGT must have some inside info in order to make that statement...so I'll accept it.

8:44 PM
Blogger michael said...

Hoopie - you're earlier description of Lowder wielding power makes me laugh. I was a huge Tubs supporter, but I thought he needed to make changes to the staff or else. That was the offer the board gave to Tubs. Make changes and you can stay. Lowder wanted him gone unconditionally. Lowder's position did not win out in that situation.

Also, according to some sources, Lowder's pick was Houston Nutt for coach, not Chizik.

So two huge decisions were made last year, and Lowder got his way on neither. His backdoor finagling influenced the university the same way the internal SGA politicking does - minimal influence on real world results. But noy, politicking sure makes us feel special and it's fun, isn't it!

However, the money he donated had a very good real world effect on the university.

8:47 PM
Blogger Scott M. Brannan said...

aw Eddie, now that's just plain mean. Norm, they will be making an appearance this weekend...that is if JGT doesn't track me down & steal them from me.

Kristina, i'll be at Fan Day sunday. Eddie & Norm will be there too if you wanna check 'em out. again, that is IF JG doesn't take 'em. he's the boss, so....

PF, i'll get ya the style numbers.

8:48 PM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Yeah, of course I was just kidding. Though, a nice Habotn Straw Hat would be nice if I had a front porch, a rocking chair and a glass of iced tea.

8:49 PM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Michael- I don't think you are correct on the Lowder and Houston Nutt deal. That was pure Jimmy Rane from all i've heard. Lowder listened to Dye and went with Chizik based on Dye's opinion, sorry, but Lowder still is the leader, but he has learned since Jetgate to not be so out in front of things and have them tied directly to him, SACS and all.

9:27 PM
Blogger Quitstina said...

I have, Eddie, but I just don't know. Throws me that your ownership actually expires. Where are you looking at buying?

9:29 PM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

I agree with the expiring ownership. We got our DVC info pack and I'm probably looking to buy into Bay Lake Towers if I proceed with it if I buy directly thru Disney. It and Kidani Village at Animal Lodge have the longest time before expiration period because they are the newest. I'm more concerened about expiration than home lodge, but DVC comes more appealing the older my family gets with the 1 room villa to the 2 room villa. I do like everything I have seen of Bay Lake Towers the most as the new resort, but I would be all about the beach Club or Boardwalk DVC's as well. I love the idea of being able to walk to Epcot.

and the answer is....

12:08 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

T-minus 21 days til kickoff!!!

Athletic and academic achievement always trump athletic achievement and incarceration.

HAPPY KARIBE DEDE DAY!!!

A native of Woodbridge, VA, Karibe Dede began his Auburn career at safety before becoming an outstanding linebacker for the Tigers. In addition to his superb defensive play, Mr. Dede achieved Academic All-SEC honors 4 consecutive years. He was named to the inaugural class of the National Football Foundation's National Honor Society. And if that wasn't enough to impress you, he was a finalist for the Draddy Trophy, the "academic Heisman Trophy". He obviously took Dr. George Petrie's Auburn Creed to heart. I'm not sure of the current whereabouts of Karibe Dede. I found a reference to a signing with the Montreal Alouettes in early 2008; the CFL web site does not currently show him listed on a roster. I also found a reference to him as a 2008 assistant coach at Freedom High School in his hometown; he is not listed on their coaching staff at this time. Anyone know what Mr. Dede is up to now? Whatever it is, I'm sure he's successful doing it.

Honorable mention:
James Brooks, one of the greatest running backs in the history of Auburn football and still, by a large margin, Auburn's career leader in all-purpose yardage. He also had an All-Pro NFL career. Had he not spent time incarcerated for being a deadbeat dad, he would have been today's honoree.

Ed Graham - his most famous moment, at least in my recollection, was the 2nd half kickoff return for a TD vs Florida State in 1984. Brent Fullwood had a great return going before coughing up the football near the 40. Ed quickly plucked the oblate spheroid out of the air and dashed the rest of the way for 6 points. In one of Auburn's most exciting games, AU nipped the 'Noles, 42-41.

Shout outs welcomed! Who's your favorite 21?
