I am disappointed in that we seemed more worried about scoring 50 and getting style points rather than intelligently managing a game.

The sloppiness I expected. Some of the goofy decisions I did not.

We got a long way to go yet. But we're 4-0, and that's a good thing.

Gang, I just don't know. Our special teams suck, our backup defense sucks and we are about to be in some real trouble IMHO if we get many more injuries. Good news, Bad news, 2009 vs 2008 edition:

Good news first. After four games in 2008, we had scored 7 offensive TDs - 5 rushing and 2 passing.

After four games in 2009, we have scored 21 TDs - 9 rushing and 12 passing.

Now the bad news. After four games in 2008, our defense had allowed only 5 TDs, all through the air.

Thus far in 2009, we have allowed our opponents to score 10 offensive TDs - 6 on the ground and 4 through the air.

10:05 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

wes, i can tell you, that you can coach all day to stay in your lanes, but when you have kids trying to impress coaches and wanting to make a tackle/big hit, and getting blocked on the way downfield, it is a bit harder than it would seem...still, it was BALL STATE. unexcusable for them to get over 10 points and 150 yards

10:06 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

When did the first team D come out? I missed most of the game.

10:07 PM
Blogger Miller said...

I don't think our offense played very well. We were slow lining up, slow getting the play off, no consistent pace... Our o-line was not opening holes or getting a push in the running game, backs seemed tentative running.

Our defense was putrid. The DL got pushed off the ball all night, the DB's played way too soft, and the LB's got sucked into the line and had trouble shedding blocks. Again we tried to arm tackle or stick...not both at the same time.

Our ST is special all right... e-special-ly bad! Poor punting, poor coverage, kickoffs out of bounds, not staying lanes on coverages... just plain bad.

I feel a dejavu moment typing this... like maybe I have said it all before.

10:07 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

I don't mind Ball State getting the points at all. I hope some of our backups learned something.

10:07 PM
Blogger IV said...

I am glad also that some of the backups on defense got some playing time but was disappointed that they had to put the first D back in because the backups just didn't play that well.

10:07 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

I really liked the way our defensive line played, including the second string.

10:08 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I am glad that people are complaining and we won 54-30.

We went into the 4th quarter 47-17.

Sloppy or not 4-0. Last yr we were wondering what was beginning to happen.

10:09 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

That Caudle interception was my biggest disappointment. Those kind of plays are what scared me about Kodi and it is what scares me about Caudle. A QB can't win the game by himself, but he sure as heck can lose one.

10:10 PM
Blogger IV said...

The Bull also did not impress me with his play. He looked confused again tonight. Did he make any tackles?

10:10 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

I wonder if Jay was bored, ill, unhappy with covering a horrid game or what; meaning looking at his coverage of the game on the frontpage of the blog; unlike other games. hope all is ok..

10:10 PM
Blogger Kathy said...

Iowa is going to beat Penn St!

10:10 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

IV, the bull has been very disappointing. Herring was making more plays when he was the starter and should likely be the starter now.

I did see the Bull get pressure on the QB once, but that is about it.

10:11 PM
Blogger IV said...

I thought that Ben Tate looked as good as anyone that we have tried on KO returns. He seemed to set up and use his blocks well on his one return. To bad we had a holding call on that one.

10:12 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

The offensive line was concerning early. I expected them to push Ball State back early. It didn't happen.

10:12 PM
