Chizik LIVE BLOG
Hey everyone. Welcome to the Athletic Complex, where coach Gene Chizik will be holding his weekly press conference.
- He has arrived. Let's BLOG.
- Opening statement: "We learned a lot out our football team last week. We have room for improvement in so many ways. We did some really good things everywhere. So much room for improvement. We've gone back to work, as of yesterday, preparing for a Mississippi State team with a lot of energy ... new energy. It's a team that plays with extremely high energy."
- More advanced that expected: "I don't think so. There's just so many question marks we didn't know. We were hoping we be in this kind of area. We feel like we got a great starting point."
- Similarities between Malzahn and Mullen: ``There are some similarities. They use two quarterbacks -- two different kinds of body types. There are a lot of similarities with what they did at Florida. Defensively, that's a little bit of an advantage for us because we see that every day."
- ``We have to do what we do and do it better than we did the week before."
- On if Auburn needs more than two tailbacks: "We're always in the market for more. The more, the merrier. You need two or three tailbacks, guys who can carry the ball, to get you through the year."
- On the McCalebb/Tate combo: ``When you have two bakcs who are that different on one team ... the physicality of one back versus the guy with great speed ... the defense runs all over the place and they get tired. It puts pressure on them."
- On Eric Smith: ``You're going to see him in a uniform this week. We're going to move on."
- On McCalebb: ``Anytime you bring a guy in January, it's night and day. He needs to stay humble because he certainly hasn't arrived. He played like we expected him to play. He absolutely loves the game of football. He practices like that."
- "We're not anywhere near satisfied with the rhythm and the tempo of our offense. It's got to be faster."
- On the coaches: ``In your first game, you worry about substitutions. You worry about adjustments. That didn't happen Saturday night. Communication was almost seamless. It's as good as we could have expected for Game One."
- On Eltoro Freeman: "We're hoping there will be a couple more guys back. We're playing that by ear. We can't play a guy who's 40 or 50 percent."
(I spoke briefly with Freeman last night and he said he's feeling a lot better. He hopes to play this weekend.) - Is McCalebb durable?: ``The bigger guys can run outside and inside. The litter guys can run inside and outside, too. They can both doth both. They both will. I don't know if they'll be durable enough. We're going to try to be a very physical offense and run the football."
- On Antoine Carter: "We're playing that by ear, too."
- THAT'S A WRAP.

If you aint first you're last!
Eric Smith is back.
JGT,
Before Chiz arrives can you answer this
In the AP poll what determines the number of votes that come out of a state. Noticed some states had 1 voter, some 2, some 3, etc.????
Good. Glad Mr. Smith is back.
Today is dead here, I guess everyone is tired after the holiday weekend.
Where has this been reported about Eric Smith?
We fell a spot in the others receiving votes category. Guess we'll have to beat LSU to get any respect.
If we win the next 3 games, we will be ranked going into UT. Rankings still don't mean much at this point.
Someone close to the program told me. I don't know if this means he will be eligible to play this weekend, but he is back with the team.
Good question to ask the coach Is Eric back with the team?
From what I've heard, and I assure you I am not sure of this information's "truthiness":
Last week Eric Smith filed a harassment complaint against the pansy dude thing.
Usually that causes both parties to drop charges. However the court hearing was supposed to be in week 1 of November or somewhere.
AUbigCat with the smack
lunch with the Chiz, JGT, and the Hotties.
Life is good.
So it is confirmed that Eric Smith is back with the team.
Blogger has locked me out from updating the blog at the moment.
I'll just have to wait it out.
Like the Chiz says about Eric Smith, I must move on. Back to work.
Thanks, JGT!
Later, Hotties!
JayG.
You are FAH! Thank you for the updates. I am relieved to hear about Eric Smith.
I'm trying to resist the urge to proofread.
So with Eric back we now have FAH Speed. Ben, Power and Eric, Slasher
Good combo to have along with seep ball capabilities
i know it's not too popular with our boy JG, but i'm diggin' the full broadcasts of all the SEC games. i watched/listened to the MSU game earlier and just started the LSU-Washington game. pretty cool.
I hate field goals I wish they would put the goal post on top of the end zone seats.
In stead of worrying about faster tempo they should concentrate on scoring touchdowns in the red zone.
seep = deep WOW
JG, anyone ask about Gabe McKenzie? i don't remember him playing at all. did i miss it?
Is Eric Smith really a slasher?
Eric Smith back? Hmmm, that is certainly good news, but I must admit I didn't expect to see him this soon.
Jay, Goldberg is reporting Eric Smith back at practice too.
i didn't expect him back either. that's why i got all hung up on Aycock playing last week.
told you i didn't know anything. ;)
I thought Eric Smith was a Rudy Johnson type, a power back. I am hoping they use him late in the game. No need to keep Tate or FAH in when we are up by 3 scores late.
This group of coaches is making it very tough for me to keep the cautious part of my cautiously optimistic outlook. I'm starting to feel very good about the direction they are taking each other.
I remember Eric having a problem holding on to the ball. But I also remember having that hard running, fast speed combo like Rudi.
I remember Eric Smith as more of a small but bruising back that didn't do so hot in the dumb@$$es offense last year.
I thought he was a bit on the power side but had quick feet and could change directions pretty well
mmmmmmmmmmmmm lunch time
Later
I am optimistic that we will win 8 games. That is about as far as my optimism will carry me. Injuries will determine how well we do in the later part of the season.
We are due a season where we stay healthy.
What two media members gave Alabama #1 votes?
The smart ones? :-)
Sensi ...
Don't know, but hang out at Zeke's Marina after football season, and you'll probably get your answer.
I was actually serious with that.
Of all the top teams, Alabama was by far the most impressive.
Oh...misunderstood. One guy is in Ohio.
Here's his rationale....
Ohio Writer
Per Monica's suggestion I am watching auburn pregame thing on auburntigers.com.
Funny.. #9 Carr just ran into an assistant guy holding water in the end zone.
College Football News, which picked us to lose, must have been impressed. We're No. 28 in their rankings -- trailing Florida, UAT, LSU, Georgia and Ole Miss among SEC teams.
Chris Low has us ranked 9th in his SEC power rankings.
It's early and everyone is all over the board.
A win over West Virginia will likely give us a bit more respect, but MSU and Ball State aren't going to impress anyone. Ball State was beaten by North Texas. Who the heck is North Texas? I assume they are a school in Texas.
The North Texas Mean Green!!!
Monica, how long is the highlights? 11 minutes of video and it's still 'pregame'.
I've heard every ad of every business in Auburn, while watching every color girl thing.
I've also seen the cameraman get into the face of, and instruments of the band. At around 5:30 someone mutters "I don't know what I'm doing". If that's the cameraman, I agree.
North TX is a good 'ol Sun Belt school. yeehaw.
The guy voted Baylor number 15. Nough said.
Okay.. I'm sold. The coaches are amazing. Chizik talks to the players like family. It's such a beautiful environment.
Monica. Thank you for the suggestion.
For those that have not checked it, you can go to Official website and click on the link (Auburn football everyday: Lousiana Tech Highlights).
First 10-15 minutes of pregame thing are dull, however it gets better.
Now I wanna see the Auburn reality show thing.
I don't have a problem with voting Baylor No. 15 at this point. It's just guessing right now.
There weren't a ton of BCS vs. BCS games last week -- about a dozen. If you're a BCS team and you beat another one -- that as good of a reason as any to give them a vote.
It's like the first votes counted in an election -- they're just the first piece of jigsaw puzzle. Plus, the AP poll is just for funsies these days.
The Tiger Rags shirt from this week is an improvement over last week, but that's not saying much.
Front...
"I've Got a FEVER and the ONLY Prescription is NO MORE COWBELL"
Back..
"We'd Rather Hear the Crowd Go... Hear the Crowd Go...
BOOM"
Still horrible, but it's not "La Wreck, La Tech."
Man, now ya'll have done it. I am now pumped about the MSU game. LaTech probably has a better offense than MSU, but I bet MSU's defense is tougher. Seeing as we scored as much points in our first game as we typically scored in 3 games last season, it will be interesting to see if we can throw up some big numbers against them.
Taco Bell, Cow Bell, what's the difference. Kick butt and take names.
I'll make a guarantee, Auburn will score more this weekend than the combined score of last years game between Auburn and Miss State.
I know I'm out on a limb, but I'm confident.
i know i should be all giddy and jumping up and down over the fantastic weekend i had in auburn but let me tell you, working today has totally killed my buzz. i need to get outta this funk.
maybe this'll help:
HATE BAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yup, that helps.
I want to see Pybus and Freeman back. Then I will be happy.
Sorry FSJ, dude lost all Cred when it went all OSU on me byt saing this little snippet on OSU's win over Navy: " But as first-week opponents go, Navy was pretty good. That's a perennial bowl team, and, in the end, a quality team compared to many of the first-week opponents of other ranked teams." ahhhhh NOT!!!!
So WVU's win over Liberty was more impressive that AU's win? And did the voters who gave Oregon votes think they were filling out a boxing scorecard? Oregon was pitiful!
Re: Oregon. This program is overrated year after year after year. They always want this to be a quality team but they haven't been since the 11-1 Joey Harrington season.
Re: Navy. This is a perrenial bowl contender and runs a very unorthodox offense by today's standards. They are a tough opener for a team trying to shake the rust off.
Re: West Virginia. This squad has my respect until we beat them in 2 weeks. Until then anything they do will be non-consequential as they looked miserable and then came back and took our defense to the shed last season.
Navy is a good team with an offense that gives almost everyone fits.
However, if you are Ohio State, you are supposed to have the athletes and discipline to handle it.
You just can't compare the performance of most teams from week to week.
Of course Ohio State should be able to handle it. And handle it they did. They won. But they didn't look good doing it.
I am satisfied with where we are ranked now. If we start out 4-0, I expect us to be in the top 25, or at least close.
Steve, I couldn't care less where we are ranked. All we can do is take care of business, one week at a time. Let's get past Miss State before we start talking about 4-0.
But I'm just as excited as you are about the future of the program.
I'm not saying we should be ranked, just not sure how Oregon got 50 votes considering how pitiful they looked and that there #2 tailback is now there #1.
Just win games...the rankings will take care of themselves.
there=their
their
there

dem dar
Oregon did look bad, very bad. It wasn't even close.
I got a challenge. Someone try to find an SEC game where Tim Tebow wasn't mentioned. It is driving me insane. Get this guy to the pros quick.
Didn't want to appear too unedukated.
Vandy over LSU? Could it happen?
Have not seen Vandy play, but LSU looked very vulnerable.
Beaver is saying Eric Smith will dress Saturday.
JawJa has South Carolina this week. Things could get very heated in Athens if they get cockslapped.
Vandy won't beat LSU.
If that game wasn't in Athens, I'd be tempted to take SC over UGA.
Remember that LSU was so bad last season that we nearly beat them. I am listening to the LSU game now, and they are not impressive.
Wait...that game is in Columbia...
Or not... I have a schedule that has UGA playing at SC and one that says SC playing at UGA.
Which is it?
If UGA loses to the Cocks this weekend, they're staring at a 5 or 6 win season
South Carolina's defense looks pretty solid. It seems strange to say, but if Spurrier can get his offense going, JawJa will be in trouble.
I don't care. Vandy won't be LSU, not in Baton Rouge, not at night.
USC is @ UGA
Its in Athens
LSU was playing at 10:00 at night two time zones away against a team who was as hungry for a win as any team around.
They will be fine. Vandy isn't near their level.
Trivia question. When is the last time Vandy beat LSU in Baton Rouge. Extra credit. When was the first time Vandy beat LSU in Baton Rouge.
I'm going to guess never and never?
LSU gave up nearly 500 yards of offense to Washington. Washington isn't a PAC10 team. Washington is a bad PAC10 team. Washington is Mississippi State with a yankee accent.
LSU rolls over Vandy, mark it.
Also, take South Carolina and the Points. The bulldogs are in trouble!
1951 and 1951. It was the only year Vandy has beaten LSU at Baton Rouge. But last season was the first time Vandy actually won a bowl game since 1955. Go Commies!!!
What has happened to Gabe Mckinzsie, and when will nike mcneil play?
What has happened to Gabe Mckinzsie, and when will nike mcneil play?
Vandy won't beat LSU. No matter what happened last week, it won't happen.
Vandy rushed for a ton of yards vs The Catamounts, that's all. They might challenge LSU for a quarter or a half.
Eddie, I don't know about LSU, but UGA is in serious trouble with their schedule. This game is almost a must win for them.
Not sure about Gabe, but I think McNeil will play later in the year.
I agree that SC is a must win for UGA, otherwise the wheels start falling off.
Gabe didn't play. I am not certain why, but if you look at our depth at h-back and slot, there isn't much room for him.
South Carolina is a definite must win for UGA, and if they don't win, they will struggle to win 5 games.
Ironically, I considered LaTech a must win for us. With Chiz riding a 10 game losing streak, an upset would have been a disaster. MSU isn't a must win, but we really do need it.
MSU is a big game for us, because a lot of people in the off season started thinking of Auburn as a lower level team in the west, barely ranking us above MSU.
I think in the school of public opinion it would do us good to prove there is still a huge gap between Auburn and Miss State. Just eliminate all of those thoughts all together.
I am with you on that RK. We are not as bad as many think. More than likely depth will end up costing us, but I do think we have a shot at ending up in the top half of the SEC West.
tomorrow is 09/09/09 for those in numberology.
BOO!
Ga always has a tough time with SC no matter where it is played. They had beter tighten their chin Straps or it will be uh oh time
This UCLA/Tennessee game will be interesting too. UCLA was the first red flag that UT had troubles last season.
Note to self: AU1292 knows people who know things that turn out to be true. :-)
I hope Tenn wins it. I have no use for pac 10 teams plus if Tenn is ranked by the time we play them it would help our cause if we can beat them.
Any equations that lead to a good season for Auburn require a victory over State.
Mon he sure does. Wonder who it is?
No doubt bout that Brother Jett
I usually don't have of hate for opposing coaches but i really don't like this kifin fellow at tenn.
I know people that know things also. I know all of you. Nuff said.
Where is Cincy? She had me splitting my side last night with her bean bag toss game.
Missinit ...
You asked a question about the apportionment of votes in the AP poll.
I believe the answer is this: there is a fixed number of voters. Some -- four? -- are "national voters." The rest are allocated using the number of Division I-A teams located in that state as the basis.
I caught the end of the presser with Satan yesterday and he went off on a beat writer for no real good reason. Is their a bigger Azzhole than this guy?
paulman...don't know if this has been expressed or not, but you have the best avatar on the board.
FSJ, I don't want to insult you, but your avatar looks just like Nick Saban!!! Yikes!!!
This Japan bowl is pretty cool. Notre Dame has a legends team coached by Lou Holtz. Wouldn't it be cool to have an Legends Iron Bowl Game, maybe Pat Dye against Gene Stallings? We could call it the Rusted Iron Bowl or something and play it the day before the Iron Bowl.
A legends bowl is a recipe for disaster. I can see someone having a heart attack on the field. Surely it is 2-hand touch???
It was played in June, but is on CSHD now.
Steve- Full contact of 2-hand touch?
2 of the many things that impressed me this weekend.
1. We have coaches that can see and evaluate what other teams are doing and make moment by moment adjustments i.e. long TD throw.
See them jump a route, then go the heck after them. Haven't seen that at AU in a while.
2. FAH moving from the left across the formation and picking up a DE (#91) to allow Todd to complete a long pass. He may be fast, but he's also smart and tough.
It's amazing how we haven't been able to get any other fast, capable, games breakers to block in the last several years, or so "they" said while those game breakers sat on the bench and we sucked.
Full contact, and it is apparently not the first legends game that Notre Dame has had. They mentioned a legends game against a European team too.
In this case, the Japan team has Japan pros and college players I believe.
Faker,
You still here? How is Abbie doing?
I am IV...Abbie is doing good. She had a great time this weekend.
Thanks for asking.
Bans Dooley = nails on a chalk board
You know you love that Buhminhayum Belle, Aubie.
Obnoxious!
Faker,
So glad to hear that about her. I will be asking again and will try to keep up with how she is doing. I know that she is the apple of your eye.
Aubie please say you heard what she just said.
Monica,
What are you up to today?
HBBOTN?
Hottest Babs Blog on the Net?
Someone asked about Gabe McKenzie. Well Trott had one pass thrown at him on the sideline towards the endzone by Kodi Burns. Many fans groaned it was interference, but Trott was no where near the ball or his route. So with that lone pass I did not see McKenzie either. I can only assume the coaches know something we dont. We didnt use the TE's much. We didnt have to.
Do we even have a TE position on the depth chart?
I believe there is a TE position on the depth chart, but it is actually the h-back position if I remember correctly.
I think that the T.E. position as we know it may be a thing of the past. I saw Gabe on the sideline but not in the game. Trott was so slow that The play had almost zero chances of being successful. Anyone else with any speed would have been able to get in a position to catch Kodi's throw.
IV,
Hey, I've been at Bible study leader's training today. I've been saving these for you.
How to play Cornhole
Cornhole Song
Enjoy!
McKenzie is the third string HB, behind Fannin and Douglas.
TEs: Trott - Lutz - Wisner.
----
FSJ: Good to hear about Abbie.
Douglas got a ton of snaps Saturday.
Comment deleted
Trott got a lot of praise from the coaches for the blocking that he did. Apparently he had an excellent game.
That play to Trott was a failure from the get go.
One of the main complaints on Kodi is he doesn't have good mechanics and doesn't get set when he throws...well that play forces him to throw quickly which generally keeps the QB from getting set and using fundamentals and it looked like Trott either gave up on the play or didn't know what was going on.
I just read where Tennessee has a verbal agreement to play USC in 2021 and 2022. Amazing how far ahead they make these schedules.
THT ...
I need you to repost the secret HABOTN map of tailgate sites.
I would say there's a 100 percent chance I will be wandering on Saturday.
I can't believe they are wanting the offense to go faster. That is going to be something amazing to see.
Trott was taking a nice evening stroll in a park towards the end-zone in that flea-flicker.
Had he caught the ball it would've almost been negative yardage (by virtue of earth's rotation), and I don't think he would've made it to the end zone before Sunday morning.
So yeah, good decision by Burns.
Cincy,
Don't start on me again today, I can't take it. I don't know when I have laughed as much as I did last night reading your posts. That looks almost like the game we played in the first or second grade called bean bag toss. I think they could have come up with a better name than Corn Hole. Oh my God, I have got myself laughing now. Good that you made time for Bible study, I need to do some of that myself.
RK ...
It looked to me that Trott tipped the play and he was covered up quickly, and that the design of the play was to throw to Trott, or sling it away.
Also running the play to the short side prevents Kodi from improvising and running.
Steve,
Gus was yelling at Todd several times to run it, run it run it. It was not going at the speed he wanted.
Yeah IV my stepson caught me offguard when he wanted a cornhole board. I believe all I could get out was "Pardon?!?!" Yeah I think they could have used a different name, too.
Can't imagine this offense going faster. And when they can finally do it the real way they want without subsituting any players for a period of time, that will be fantastic. I have a feeling because of our depth though we may be a little way off for that.
MytommyD,
Man, I have no idea what I would have said if one of my younuns had come up to me and asked for a Corn Hole board. Let's just say, I would have had severe concerns about his wardrobe, even to the point that I would have been checking his underwear drawer.
Yea IV, I saw that. It actually tickled the crap out of me. Malzahn can be intense.
By the way, I can't believe Cornhole is really a game and not associated with Beavis and Butthead.
I rock at cornhole.
Just sayin'.
Hey Hotties,
Too much work today! Just popping in to say "War Eagle" and "Hate Bama!". JH was a lot of fun Saturday night. I looked around a bit for HABOTN gear, but didn't see any.
Also, alternate name/brand for "Cornhole" is "Baggo". I have a Baggo board. You can actually get them in AU colors with the logo.
More (Stuff)mydadsays: "Here's a strawberry, sorry for farting near you...Hey! Either take the strawberry and stop bitching, or no strawberry, that's the deal."
I would have had a horrible time playing for Lou Holtz. I just saw him pissed yelling at players. Somehow, I don't think I could take Elmer Fudd seriously.
Thanks for the explanation on the AP poll, Jet.
I kind of figured out the national votes but the state thing got me, such as, Georgia getting 1, Alabama getting 2, and Florida getting three. I figured it was based on something... I just didn't know what the something was. I didn't realize GA had a minimal number of Division 1-A schools.
Thanks again.
I can believe GA has fewer Division 1A schools. You go south of Macon and there is a whole lot of nothing. Go buy and onion and that is about it until you get to Savannah.
Sorry IV - I stepped away right after my last post and didn't see your question. Been busy this afternoon.
Hope you're having a good one!
Apparently Malzahn told Tate that we should have had 700 yards of offense. Man, this MSU game is going to be interesting.
OKay, I can't take Japan football seriously. One of their teams is named the "All Tokyo Gas Creators".
Mon,
I did hear Babs' comment on Finebaum.
Stay classy San Diego.
I don't even know who Babs is, much less what she said.
I assume Vince Dooley's wife, but that's just a guess.
Steve,
I don't know about 700 yards, but I do think we left a couple of touchdowns on the field with mistakes we made. (The Tate fumble and the first drive when we got a FG instead of a TD)
Did you hear the tape delayed version on the radio or the unedited version online?
Babs is Vince Dooley's wife and she is the most obnoxious woman to walk the face of this good earth.
She said "chickensh#$" live on the air while telling one of her stories.
Monnie, I was listening in the car, so I got the bleeped version.
Class with a capital K
Ok, the one play I thought was most dangerous was the handoff from behind thing we ran in the first half.
That had Tony Franklin sandlot fumblicious written all over it in my opinion.
K?
Anybody see the Auburn Football Review.
I was a little embarrassed when Mike Hubbard announced the Tiger Player of the game: Orlando McCalebb... Orlando? Sure, it's a city, but he could've at least called him Toronto.
I thought that particular handoff was a thing of beauty. The ball just slid in his hands perfectly. A tad risky though.
I think the team didn't sell fake handoffs and playaction too well. RBs timing and separation will probably improve as the season progresses.
While everyone is talking about offense, I think the defense was phenomenal.
Sensi, in general this offense is going to have more risk to it. The amount of options that are available and the speed they try to execute it at is bound to make mistakes more likely. Hopefully the gains outweight the cost. And yes, some of this offense is similar to what Franklin would have run, although I do think Franklin was a better coach than most gave him credit for being. The problem was with the individual, it was with the combination of individuals.
The defense was amazing considered the starting linebackers had to pretty much play the entire game. Herring had to play 54 snaps, if I remember correctly, which is a ton for a guy that only had one week of practice. I assume he wasn't out there when we were in nickle.
Steve, are you defending captain dumbass still? You have a really good pusher.
I need a little help from the hotties. I've been spending a lot of time in Mobile helping to care for my ill mother (which is why I haven't posted in a couple of weeks).
Where is a good place in Mobile to go to watch the games, preferably with an Auburn crowd?
Monica,
I went to feed my face and missed your post also. It's been a great day here a the home. Bingo this morning and checkers this afternoon. The house has been rocking. Just finished supper, you high falootin types call it dinner. That is what we call the noon meal, dinner. You tell somebody around here it is time for dinner late in the afternoon and they will tell, we done had that several hours ago. Anyway, I want be around on this site much tonight. We are having a chat session with my high school graduation class of 1957. Gonna be fun. We will get caught up on everybody's ailments and such. You have fun tonight and tell Cincy I am going to miss her.
Nova: With BinOBA. That's my guess.
I imagine he could put on a pretty good TV tailgate ;)
Nova.
I hope your mum gets better. You have my respect for doing that.
Thanks Aero, and you've had mine for what you do.
All we can do is make Mom's passing as easy as possible. We're spending as much time as we can with her.
Hey I have an idea.
Why don't we talk about the previous coaching staff?
So .. who's gonna start?
I'll give it a try.
Was Franklin really as big a dumba$$ as he claimed to be?
I nominate Steve.
Haven't we beat this dead horse before? I think that it's time to move on. What happened, happened. I am thankful that so far, it has not happened this year.
PF, to say that someone that likely makes a lot more money than you is a dumbass, where would that leave you?
Not to speak for Peter, but I think it was Tony Franklin who referred to himself as a dumba$$, Peter was just calling him in terms he is apparently familair with.
Beat on, but this dead horse ain't gonna get up.
There is a new sheriff in town.
Sheriff Gus is his name. He is kickin' a$$ and takin' names.
OT: I had to take my daughter back to the doctor again today for another follow up and check of her WBC count. I have never been so happy to hear that her lab results came back with a positive for Swine Flu which was the culprit for the very low WBC. He had also tested her for leukemia and other blood diseases which were all negative, so you can imagine my relief. It was a very long weekend to get those results, so I wasn't able to enjoy the game as normal. Next week, game on!!!
Speaking of old coaches anyone see Tubs on "Inside the Polls" on ESPNU?
Steve : Money does not prove your 'wisdom'.
Einstein, Tesla, Oppenheimer etc etc none of them were richer than Lil Jon, and Ludacris, and Teepain or whatever.
IV: We've Clinton Durst'ed that dead horse all over the place. I was just kidding.
IV, you are very correct. Also, blaming is pretty much pointless. There were a lot of people to blame for last years unique season.
I am curious about how CTF is doing though. MTSU lost to Clemson in their opener, 37-14. Apparently Clemson returned a punt and a kickoff for touchdowns. MTSU only had 299 yards of offense, while Clemson had 361 yards. The stats make the game look a lot closer that the score, which is what really matters.
I am more amazed at the unity of this coaching staff. There is plenty of room for egos to clash here and it apparently hasn't. Trooper Taylor is sporting a 3 year contract, just like Malzahn. All of the assistants are making over 200k. It looks like an amazing mix to me and I have to take my hat off to Chizik for putting this staff together.
I do not want to say "good to hear" upon knowing that someone has swine flu. So I'm utterly confused on what to say about Kathy's situation.
Someone say something on my behalf.
I need to hit the gym and then get to work.
By the way, I like this new sheriff's posse also.
Aero - you're a good man. Any idea when you might get home, besides coming home last May?
What up guys, just doing my evening lurk...
Regardless of whether or not he's making money doesn't make him a genius, Steve. Any guy that refers to him self as a dumb donkey most likely is.
Did anyone ready teh article in the Advertiser about our WR commit Jeremy Richardson? He earned the ASWA Offensive Player of the Week award after helping his team to a 40-39 victory.
Jeremy Richardson
"After falling behind 20-0, Richardson hauled in seven receptions for 195 yards and four touchdowns (51, 50, 9 and 49 yards). The performance earned Richardson the Alabama Sports Writers Association offensive player of the week award."
I said that last statement poorly. Just because he makes a good living doesn't mean he is any more or less intelligent than anyone else.
Glad to see Eric Smith back with the team.
I like the idea of having incentive based contracts. I never liked the idea of guaranteeing a coach so many millions of dollars for 10 years. It seemed pretty ridiculous. Tying a coaches salary into the success of the program only makes sense. While Saban has likely more than made up for his salary in what he has done for the dark side, Charlie Weis is getting payed about as much to turn Notre Dame into an afterthought.
200!
