2nd half: Auburn @ LSU

Hey everyone. We're watching -- and commenting on -- the second half of Auburn's game at Louisiana State University.

  • LSU POSSESSION ONE: TOUCHDOWN. Brandon LaFell 17 pass from Jordan Jefferson. PAT kick good. Drive covered 45 yards in four plays.
      LSU 24, AUBURN 0

  • AUBURN POSSESSION ONE: FIELD GOAL. Wes Byrum 24 yards. Drive covered 53 yards in nine plays.
      LSU 24, AUBURN 3

  • LSU POSSESSION TWO: PUNT.

  • AUBURN POSSESSION TWO: PUNT. Auburn burrowed into LSU territory, but the drive faded fast once it crossed mid-field.

  • LSU POSSESSION THREE: TOUCHDOWN. Russell Shepard 70 run. PAT kick good. That's a wrap, kids.
      LSU 31, AUBURN 3

I'm no longer updating this in real-time because, well, I have to write and I know how this one is going to end.

  1. I was going to post first, but I held up and didn't hit the enter key, got sacked and fumbled.

  2. It seems offensive coordinators love picking on a certain DB.

  3. WE SUCK!!! I'm A FAIR WEATHER FAN ACCORDING TO STEVE!!!!!

    Well, that didn't take long.

Here's a positive thought - plenty of room for recruits to come in and contribute.

    ReplyDelete
  5. RK ... looks like they got both of 'em on this drive.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Well the good news is we get to see quickly if AU's offense is going to do anything in the 2nd half, or if we can all just go to bed.

    ReplyDelete
  7. It could be worse, that's positive, right?

    ReplyDelete
  8. are we going to score?

    ReplyDelete
  9. Jet,

I had just typed that right as the TD pass was thrown.

    ReplyDelete
  10. They're only down 24.

Malzahn's offense averaged more than that at one time.

    ReplyDelete
  11. thanks for the positive influence Jay

    ReplyDelete
  12. Anonymous8:39 PM

    Jay G. for the win

    ReplyDelete
  13. Why the F is Todd still in the game? It's over. Let's see something else. I hope the media rips him.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Ben Tate is averaging 53 yards per carry, according to the graphic.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Anonymous8:40 PM

yeah, Jay, but that was for a game, not a half. thanks for the positivity, though!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Jet,

You think we'd run him more at that pace.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Bob Davie: "trickeration."

Am I a fair weather fan to point out he's the worst ESPN announcer on their rotation? Steve?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Hey Jay, why dont you do a Mitch Albom and finish your article now with the score as is. Its not unethical. wink.

    ReplyDelete
  19. More good news- Ben Tate is still a badass

    ReplyDelete
  20. At least we know Ben Tate won't quit.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Well, FSU played as badly as we did against UNC the other night and was down 18 points at this point in the game, but turned it around and won.

    I can dream, can't I?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Anonymous8:42 PM

Ben Tate is a bad man.

Will be doing that on Sundays.

    Good for him.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Freep- That's definitely dreaming.

    ReplyDelete
  24. todd pitches the ball as soon as he gets it, is it just me, or is that not the purpose of the option, where are any playmakers

    ReplyDelete
  25. Can't the crowd see the no-huddle and not just sense it?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Eric Smith is money on that route.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Todd is just "fine." See????

    ReplyDelete
  28. Anonymous8:44 PM

Nice catch and throw to ESmith.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Anonymous8:44 PM

i wonder if sacred as he** is on the bench for this half? keep running tate.. improve your draft status

    ReplyDelete
  30. Anonymous8:44 PM

Though, technically, the wheel route has been around Auburn for many recent years.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Dem crazy cajuns are blind drunk.

    ReplyDelete
  32. freep, fed-ex me what u are drinking, we may keep it close like Ut did against us, its called garbage points, eric smith catches like he hits people in the back of the head.....wait for it....lights out..lol

    ReplyDelete
  33. All Kodi does is tell them that we're not passing.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Burns at QB = D knows it's a run play.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Doubled our offensive output from the first half already.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Why not just give Tate the ball 4 times and see if he can't get it done?

    ReplyDelete
  37. I hate the wildcat.... Bust up the rythem

    ReplyDelete
  38. Anonymous8:45 PM

yes, i refuse to call him fast as he** until he proves it again

    ReplyDelete
  39. we cant force it...ughhhh

    ReplyDelete
  40. Well that started out promising.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Just attempting to find some reason for positivity, PDWT.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Anonymous8:46 PM

    WAY TO GO BYRUM!

    ReplyDelete
  43. No shut out..... That's a positive.....

    ReplyDelete
  44. no shut out here... we can move the ball...

d 3 and out lets get to 10 in the next 3 minutes...

    ReplyDelete
  45. I don't hate the wildcat, I hate the personnel they have running it. Not the player individually, but the fact that they have the wrong one running it.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Byrum is still money this year, so there's that.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Am I the only person born and raised in Alabama who hates "Sweet Home Alabama?"

    ReplyDelete
  48. wareagle rk, god i know, the whole friggin conference knows when he is in he is running the inside run...its soooo predictable, what about that trick play with travante stallworth

    ReplyDelete
  49. No doubt about Tate. I will take him over Ingram any day.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Not watching the game right now, just following along on the internets. . .did LSU still have their 1st string defense in on that drive?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Scottcoats ...

    nope, I'[m with you.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Well, this ensures we won't see Erin Andrews again this year. Irrelevancy blows in so many ways.

    ReplyDelete
  53. not to sound stupid but we can win this game.... LSU's o is stoppable if we show up... O needs to show up..

Next time,,, keep running ben and stop getting cute with the wildcat...

    ReplyDelete
  54. Anonymous8:48 PM

Todd looked good on that drive. Bringing in Kodi killed the momentum. Why not run Tate there instead?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Anonymous8:48 PM

I hate it as well from years of having to play it in cover bands.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Anonymous8:49 PM

Because Kodi is a leader. He's an Auburn man. He deserves it.

At least, that's what we're told.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Anonymous8:49 PM

The D needs to force a 3 and out.

    ReplyDelete
  58. yeah, I don't think Kodi is the answer at Wildcat. Seems to me we'd be better with a speed option or a punishing runner option.

If I'm on defense, I don't fear Kodi throwing--he's not good.

    ReplyDelete
  59. What are we hoping to accomplish there?

    ReplyDelete
  60. maybe one of these upbacks will fumble

    ReplyDelete
  61. JUST KICK THE DAMN BALL OUT OF BOUNDS IF YOU ARE GOING TO DO THAT CRAP~

    ReplyDelete
  62. when Sweet Home Alabama come out, they played it at all the parties in Auburn and back then it still belonged to the whole state

Now it is a sick bama song

    ReplyDelete
  63. Anonymous8:49 PM

Kodi is a leader. He's an Auburn man. He deserves it.

    Don't forget that. It's important.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Anonymous8:49 PM

stop the pooch kick . lsu almost in fg position already

    ReplyDelete
  65. At the very least The Bull has come to play tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  66. stan white agrees, pooch kick equals dumb ass, hey lets give them the ball at mid-field, wtf, boulware...mmmmm

    ReplyDelete
  67. So why hasn't El Toro been playing again?

    ReplyDelete
  68. fannin is the perfect wildcat..

    he can throw

    ReplyDelete
  69. What was the play that killed the drive? That's right. The wildcat. IT DOESN'T work on the goal line. TATE works on the goal line. C'mon Gus. Wake up man!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Scott, right now I'm thinking "That Smell" is more appropriate.

Hey, just remembered - you know where Skynrd was scheduled to play the night their plane went down? ?

    Louisiana State University.

    Coincidence? I think not.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Kodi is a leader. He is an Auburn man. He deserves it.

    Got it.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Our coverage sucks.. the upbacks cannot run one back

    ReplyDelete
  73. war eagle girl, i agree, wife and i still yell war damn eagle,

    ReplyDelete
  74. what a throw and catch.

    ReplyDelete
  75. anyone surprised we gave that up?

    ReplyDelete
  76. Almost perfect coverage.... Almost

    ReplyDelete
  77. when exactly did TV commentators decide they needed to be funny and part of the "story."

Please just describe the game to me.

    ReplyDelete
  78. that was a hail mary, pooch kick, pooch kick, pooch kick, pooch kick, pooch kick, pooch kick, pooch kick

    ReplyDelete
  79. Anonymous8:52 PM

please tell walt its ok to put your arms up in the air to knock down a pass- THAT is not illegal

    ReplyDelete
  80. D is playing well considering

    ReplyDelete
  81. Anonymous8:52 PM

Ahh, well. We still got Furman, right?

    It'll get better. It must.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Bear ... that was just a great throw and catch ... Walt had him buttoned up.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Gus gets an F- for game plan tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  84. That was just a nice catch by Randle.

Carter is playing well. The Bull is playing well. Defense is not playing poorly. Just NO assistance from O and consistently bad field position

    ReplyDelete
  85. If I had a choice - I would take 3rd & 8

    ReplyDelete
  86. F.U Alabama
    War Damn Eagle
    Go to hell LSU

    F.U Alabama
    War Damn Eagle
    Ole Miss sucks too

Is that the song ya'll are referring to?

    ReplyDelete
  87. Look for the ball Thorpe!

    ReplyDelete
  88. Oops, I suppose comparing AU's performance tonight to a tragic fatal plane crash is a little on the negative side.

More positivity: I think Roof & Co. listened to our advice about loading up to stop the run and forcing Jefferson to beat us.

    Unfortunately, he is.

    Damn! Did it again!!!

    ReplyDelete
  89. Thorpe LOOK FOR THE BALL!!!

Who was that blazing on the QB? El Toro (again)????

    ReplyDelete
  90. Did Will Muschamp sneak back in as DC? Why will teh DBs not turn around?

    ReplyDelete
  91. That was good coverage by Thorpe, just needs to go for the ball next time.

    ReplyDelete
  92. That was lucky, Walt.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Anonymous8:54 PM

bro- yeah, great throw and catch; but DBs should be taught to raise the arms when the ball approaches and/or when the WR puts his hands up. other than that, he was on his hip. now that poke-out was a GREAT play on the ball

    ReplyDelete
  94. Nice play by McFadden to knock the ball out.

    ReplyDelete
  95. We caught a break there with Tolliver not holding on.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Anonymous8:55 PM

Time keeps on slippin, slippin, slippin
    Into the future

    ReplyDelete
  97. boy, he got beat, but that was a helluva play by Walt.

    ReplyDelete
  98. They tried to make that out as a good play - it wasn't

    ReplyDelete
  99. Anonymous8:56 PM

PLEASE do not hit the punter

    ReplyDelete
  100. Anonymous8:56 PM

Well, be safe everybody. Time to ice the knee.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Slippin, slippin, slippin.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Anyone else get a kick out of watching a lost Pizza guy drive by 13 times?

    ReplyDelete
  103. PPL was headed for the 50 yard line he wasn't going to be near that punt

    ReplyDelete
  104. Norm was the smart one ... he detached his retina so he wouldn't be able to watch this one.

    ReplyDelete
  105. ok, next weekend, i have to go see my brother n law play his last regular season football game at 7 pm in Friday, that ends, drive to Montgomery, check in to hotel by mmmm. 1 am, get up by 7 am, head to auburn, park, tailgate, chug beers, watch that gem of a game, ole miss vs auburn at 11:30 am, then drive back to mobile, the 24 hours from hell, i cant wait....whooooeee....

    ReplyDelete
  106. Anonymous8:57 PM

MSU tried a fake punt on their own 20 and their runner falls down without being hit. wow

    ReplyDelete
  107. WR's have one catch all game.

    ReplyDelete
  108. oh by the way my next door neighbor at the game, is selling his bama tickets for $350.00 a piece, omg, but some bamer will but it, i will never sell my tickets to non-auburns fans, to hell with that

    ReplyDelete
  109. What is the purpose of Kodi being in on that last play?

    ReplyDelete
  110. Make that 14 times plus a 5 point turn in front of the house.

    ReplyDelete
  111. McCalleb must be pretty hurt, havent seen him. eric smith has great hands

    ReplyDelete
  112. what the heck is that spot...

last week with Ken they spotted the ball..

    now its the knee

    ReplyDelete
  113. Anonymous9:01 PM

    smith hobbling off the field

    ReplyDelete
  114. why do I get the feeling that Jay is enjoying this? Please don't become PF

    ReplyDelete
  115. OO OO, RK. I know.

Kodi is an Auburn man. He is a leader. He deserves it.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Mario so nice to meet you...

    ReplyDelete
  117. I sold my SEC championship tickets to a 'Bama fan last year for a $1,000 profit - didn't bother me in the least.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Trott really needs to hold his blocks on swing passes.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Tommy Trott couldn't block my grandmother.

She's been dead for 20 yrs.

    ReplyDelete
  120. trott is the guy in wrestling that takes it off the top rope, they set him up alot...

    ReplyDelete
  121. 1st down..

i am 1.5 bottles into some 2 buck chuck

    ReplyDelete
  122. we need to score quick ... we do nto have time for 18 play 14 min drives

    ReplyDelete
  123. I don't think FAH has played since he ran straight to the sidelines on a play he could have cut back inside for more yards.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Is that Up Chuck after the 2nd bottle goes down?

    ReplyDelete
  125. Anonymous9:04 PM

we will not throw. LSU knows this. i wont be surprised to see 8 or 9 in the box

    ReplyDelete
  126. roll the pocket and run

    ReplyDelete
  127. Anonymous9:04 PM

i was wrong. we will throw. we will throw it 15 yards out of bounds.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Complaints about the lack of Fanin involvement are reminiscent of last year. Why do our off coord not understand how productive the guy is and not get him the ball more?

    ReplyDelete
  129. Positivity: Todd has completed 8 of his 12 pass attempts.

Negativity: Half of them have been for 1 yard or less.

    ReplyDelete
  130. That pump fake shook off the camera man with the coverage down the sideline. Once Todd pumped that camera guy wasn't making the play.

    ReplyDelete
  131. help me out, does FAH=Fannin?

    If so, can someone explain?

    ReplyDelete
  132. Quack quack. Todd is just awful

    ReplyDelete
  133. I liked the Durst who didn't have a scholarship far better than the guy who has one.

    ReplyDelete
  134. mccaleb = FAH = Fast as Hell

    ReplyDelete
  135. Just another ...

FAH = McCalebb ... when he was "fast as hell."

Now, he's the RB Formerly Known as FAH.

    ReplyDelete
  136. If FAH were Fanin (and not McCalebb) it would stand for Fumbles After Hits.

    ReplyDelete
  137. ok, write it down:

Durst is the Bernie Madoff of our team. He got a scholarship and now he couldnt punt it out of a Cub Scout tent, he has been terrible. Great investment by his parents though.

    ReplyDelete
  138. todd threw it away..

if they have that much coverage down feild the QB draw should work every play..

We are 3 scores down. we do not have time to give LSU the ball

    ReplyDelete
  139. again why did we punt>>

    ReplyDelete
  140. Anonymous9:08 PM

    flood gates open

    ReplyDelete
  141. I have officially lost hope now........

    ReplyDelete
  142. I have seen enough.

    Good night

    ReplyDelete
  143. anybody want to buy some bama ticket?

    ReplyDelete
  144. i love stan white, he wants to put the auburn isp network, he is a true fan and steve, an auburn man

    ReplyDelete
  145. Look good, this does not.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Anonymous9:09 PM

LSU clearly doesn't see using their hot shot FR QB as a "waste of redshirt."

    Just saying...

    ReplyDelete
  147. even bramblett says the game is over on the radio! Way to keep the fan base on a positive note

    ReplyDelete
  148. I'll check everyone a little later, I'm going to go hang with the wife.

    ReplyDelete
  149. If they put Todd back in now then we have ever reason to question Malz's sanity/competency

    ReplyDelete
  150. Anonymous9:10 PM

    g'nite and war eagle.

    ReplyDelete
  151. It's 2003 again alright.

    ReplyDelete
  152. eddie, the fun in wearing my mr. t outfit next week is dimming...

    ReplyDelete
  153. Your never as good as you hope or as bad as you think...... We are a 7 - 5 team at best.

    ReplyDelete
  154. Freep- 2003 team was much better.

    ReplyDelete
  155. Seeing that last Ali add reminds me of the time Cassius Clay came to Auburn in the early 70's and spoke through the Symposium or at least that's what I think it was called. He was AWFUL. Ted Kennedy came that year too.... he was just as AWFUL!!!

    Kinda like tonight......awful!

    ReplyDelete
  156. I wouldn't blame you if you turned out now.

Thanks for spending a large portion of your night here at the HABOTN. I'll turn out the lights in a bit.

    ReplyDelete
  157. OK, this is silly.

    ReplyDelete
  158. That play has never worked for us...ever.

    ReplyDelete
  159. tate needs 100 yds to beat ingram thats all i care about now, todd can go work in the coal mines for all i care...

    ReplyDelete
  160. OMG....Todd is still in
Glad I wasn't on the GUS BUS

    ReplyDelete
  161. Dude. Gus stinks. Apparently a base defense is all you need to do to beat him. Pathetic game by him and every coach. They deserve much blame.

    ReplyDelete
  162. What's even more embarrasing is our players holding up the 4 fingers when they've packed it in.

    ReplyDelete
  163. I'm not saying they should start next week, but let some of the young guys play.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Thanks Jay for the positive influence...again

    ReplyDelete
  165. That was perhaps the most dumbass play call I've seen Malzahn make so far. Just completely effin stupid. And what did that lead to? TD LSU!!!

Our coaches are the ones who are sucking. They should be embarrassed. They should be ashamed. For the third week in a row we are COMPLETELY NOT READY to play football. Boo Chizick. Boo Malzahn. Boo Roof. Boo Taylor. Boo Luper. Boo every coach and misc. staff. I'm absolutely appalled at how poorly coached we seem right now. Disgusting.

    ReplyDelete
  166. I do not get our o line... they are 3 year starters and should be crushing people...

    ReplyDelete
  167. Steve can take his "True Auburn Man" routine and shove it. If I hear it again, i'll blow a gasket.

    ReplyDelete
  168. Please tell me why Todd is still playing. A reward for fine play? Is it for next year? We're proving some point (beyond that we suck)? Why??

    ReplyDelete
  169. I disagree about the anti-Malzahn sentiment.

It's obvious that when we have the players we can score a ton of points.

Todd's effectiveness disappeared after the first 4 games or so, just like last season. McCalebb losing a step hurt some more.

Better days are ahead, just probably not in a year ending in '9'.

    ReplyDelete
  170. Phred- Well said. We are not a good team, but we shouldn't be this bad.

    ReplyDelete
  171. Sadly, I predicted we would win or lose big...

I was 50% right... the 50% I did not want.

    ReplyDelete
  172. Eddie ...

The 4 Fingers is ridiculous. Once it was 24-0, it was obvious even to me that it was time to let Caudle get some snaps. There is nothing to be gained by Todd playing the rest of the night. Unless the goal is to get him a season ending injury. I'd rather lose 52-3 then expose the starters any further.

    ReplyDelete
  173. thank you eddie for feeling my pain..im delirous we have a 4th qtr...cant believe we have one qter left...feel like wilt chamberlin is gonna give me a months worth of proctology exams

    ReplyDelete
  174. Isn't it time to look to the future and let Caudle or Trotter or someone get some meaningful PT?

    ReplyDelete
  175. A Little Over The Top Don't You Think Eddie?

    ReplyDelete
  176. Freep- Is it not Malzahn's job to put players out there that have a chance to perform. Todd sucks and he keeps putting him out there. Caudle may not be great, but can he really be worse than the 10 points we have put up on the board the last 7 quarters. Malzahn is sucking it up big time right now and Nutt is laughing his ass off.

    ReplyDelete
  177. Anonymous9:18 PM

after the ARK loss, i thought we would "get it together" at night in JHS. we then come out and stink it up big time. and tonight, I am seeing what I did last year... no passion and no fire. it is contagious also, especially on offense. one guy stops trying, then another, and then another. the defense seems to be trying a bit more

    ReplyDelete
  178. This is the exact same staff who brought the team back from a 14-point early deficit against a good West Virginia team, and took a squad loaded with inexperience on the road and beat UT in Neyland.

They didn't just go stupid over the past 3 weeks. They've just run out of the gris-gris they used for the first 5.

    ReplyDelete
  179. Loganville- Definietly, but so is Steve. Just trying to match him.

    ReplyDelete
  180. We have a great running game .. right up to the poit we tryu to get cute.....

    ReplyDelete
