- He has arrived.
- ``This going to be a very exciting and very challenging week for us."
- On Arkansas' offense being like Auburn's 2002 version: ``A lot of the same concepts. They're really, really good. It's reminiscent of the ones he had at Louisville and what he has here. A lot of similarities to the things he's always done."
- On Ryan Mallett: ``I was in Texas when he was in high school and we knew all about him. He has a cannon for an arm. He's what makes it go in the passing game. He makes a world of difference in that offense. Very efficient, very good."
- On Nosa Eguae: ``Day by day. I know know exactly where he is right now."
- On if he could play: ``You get into that area where, as the season goes on, you ask if it's worth it. We're still in that window where if he can play, we'd love for him to play."
- More on Petrino: ``He's been this way everywhere he's been. He's always had an explosive, high-power offense and he hasn't changed."
- On this being a shootout game: ``I don't think it changes your approach. You have to execute better than they execute. He's not going to re-invent the wheel. He's going to do what they do."
- On morning games: ``This is uncharted waters for us. That shouldn't have an effect one way or the other. They're playing at 11, too. Those things shouldn't matter."
- On Wes Byrum's effect on the offense: ``If he continues to kick like he's been kicking, it's a lot of pressure off. You feel like if you get anywhere near the 30 or 35 yard line, you have a chance to score point. It's big to have that in your back pocket and feel good about it. We have felt good about it."
- On kickers: ``They're kind of in their own world, but they're definitely part of this team."
- On why Malzahn's offense wears on defenses: ``When you get to the no-huddle world, it's not as physical. This is really the opposite. This is faster tempo, but we're still trying to run the ball downhill and be physical with it. We said, from Day One, that's what we needed to be. This is maybe a little bit different because we have that mindset when the tempo gets pretty quick. You can't sub. Defenses can't line up and they get tired."
- On Ben Tate: ``I think Ben has bought into the downhill, physical (stuff). He's showed that he's got some speed. He can hit the corner. When we've had to get tough yards, though, he has shown he can forge ahead and get those yards. He's got to be able to run for those tough yards and he's done that."
- How to get a better pass rush: ``That's tough. You do what you do each week. You can do some things schematically, trying to pass rush based on where the center's going, where the back is going. It does get challenging when you're going against the scout team a lot. We try to do as much good-on-good as we can. We've got to challenge our guys this week."
- On Arkansas' artificial turf: ``I don't see that as an issue."
- On the way Auburn's schedule has worked: ``I'm very happy for our football team and I'm very happy for our coaches. You can't be sitting any better than being 5-0. What is very clear is that we have a long road ahead of us. We're just getting started. There's a lot of great football left to play. There has been a lot of change in (the players') lives over the last 9 or 10 months and it's good that they've had some success. 5-0 is better than the alternative."
- On Mike McNeil: ``He has made a good bit of progress. At what point do you say enough's enough and move on and take it to the next season. It's too hard to say. Three weeks from now, the conversation may be different. I don't want him to go out at play at 85 percent. You'd be throwing him in with only a couple days of practice. I don't want to throw a kid in there if he's not at his best."
- On Bates' emergence in relation to McNeil: ``It's nice to see a young guy come in and help us out. That's a position where we don't have a lot of depth. I don't think that has made it any easier. We have to have all hands on deck. Daren's gotten better every week. We've seen a definitive difference."
- On Bates' hitting: ``He didn't have any of that until started coaching him.
It's just built into Daren to be aggressive and a physical guy. As the season wears on, you'll see him become more physical. He's one of those guys who's got it." - On Bates' recruitment: ``We did our homework on him. We wanted him play basketball. We had some in-depth conversation with his high-school coach. It was my belief that he was being under-recruited -- just by watching his body and watching him play basketball. It has paid off."
- That's a wrap.
- On Bates' recruitment: ``We did our homework on him. We wanted him play basketball. We had some in-depth conversation with his high-school coach. It was my belief that he was being under-recruited -- just by watching his body and watching him play basketball. It has paid off."

Substance with Bacon!

Sorry no substance..just seating on G waiting on O
cinco
Walt McFadden!
when are Advisory Board tryouts usually held?
I can hear it now "Arkansas is a very good team". I bet JGT could write this without having to even be there.
I know I saw a compare an contrast involving the SEC West and Big XII South. It went away.
JGT ask him if Roof will blitz more and set up special blitz packages
The passing attack has me worried...
Ben Tate is AFAH Almost fast as hell
Don't know if you asked that question or not but the answer was about what I expected from my question.
Frankenbummer: The SEC-Big 12 answer was pointless.
On kickers: ``They're kind of in their own world, but they're definitely part of this team."
So who is the kicker of HABOTN? Is it me? Sensi?
Don't we practice each day on the fake stuff?
Michael ...
You're the kicker. Sensi's the snapper.
But who's the holder?
Jet you gotta be the holder just to keep those other jokers in line.
That's a wrap for me, need something to eat.
Digger, I got bad hands. I'd never be the holder.
Boy, this party really died.
What do you do about a cat with an ear infection when you cannot afford a vet bill?
And, no, I can't just shoot it... Wifey's cat.
Try vinegar/water as it will dry the ear out.....better organice allergy free cat food believe it or not has helped my dog
d.miller - google it!
that's what I was going to say....google it! You won't believe how much info is out there because people are tired of paying high vet bills
If the cat is tough, it will heal itself. Just wait that thing out.
Try prayer.
Google a cat? You guys are sick.
Jay,
Would you mind giving an opinion on Etheridge and how he is playing? There's been a lot of talk on Bates and McNeil, but I have seen little mention of Etheridge. Thanks.
I often am in a world of my own, but I definitely am part of a team.
Happy HABOTN Birthday to that guy who's birthday is today.
All your points are belong to Gus.
thanks PF. :)

Happy B to Scottie B!
With Bacon! And Sausage! And Ham!
Coach Chizik says, "``When you get to the no-huddle world, it's not as physical. This is really the opposite."
Then, he says, "``I think Ben has bought into the downhill, physical (stuff)."
Huh?
thanks to Jet too.
BTW, for those who watched the UT game, Todd's 'Taste of the Town' was done at Chandler's Deli. it is owned by a cousin of my co-workers. small world. they've got some GOOOOOD food.
Scottie ... As a well known consumer of food, I enjoy Todd's Taste of the Town spots as it helps pass the time between stoppages in play without seeing the same 4 commercials over and over.
I have to say that the Knoxville spot looked pretty tasty.
Sensi, I think Chizik was stating that AU has a physical no-huddle offense, opposite of most teams' no-huddle offense.
After a morning of meditation in the sweat hut, I have had a vision. Everyone has been waiting on AU to make a statement. It happens this week. Auburn shines like a new penny. AU 42 UA 24
Phred has spoken. Be it so.
"You do what you do each week."
The Chiz is a coachspeak savant.
Happy B to Scottie B
i'll take that Phreddie. "So be it....JEDI!"
thanks Kathy.
Scottie B - my birthday present to you will be a bit late, but I trust it will be worth the wait. I expect you'll have it Saturday afternoon say around 3:30 eastern or so.
E-bro...prayer...for a cat? Hilarious!
Norm, i hope you're sayin' what i think you're sayin'.
Phred.....drag Sensi into that sweat hut...will ya?
Sensi...Even coachspeak.....when repeated enough times....will contradict itself.
CGC def needs to refer to the Coachspeak Library of Phrases for a few new ones. I'm to the point of eye glaze when reading his statements.
Oh, you're reading me right. I'm saying it. Look for it around 3:30 or 4:00.
Phred Pfor Prez...I like that score!!!
It's amazing that as bland as CGC is most of the time, he is a ball of energy come gametime.
Watched him at Iowa St a good bit and he was stoicism personified most of the game. Very even flow, never too high, never too low. Maybe he's just happy here.
Since this my first trip to Baton Rouge, what hotels do you recommend?
Agreed. I should just stop reading it.
Came across this bit from my hometown paper, trying to goad UT's players and staff into accusing Pugh of intentionally chop blocking.
Timesfreepress takes Pugh to task
from Pat Forde's Dash on ESPN.com:
And finally, we have a Dash apology to Auburn coach Gene Chizik (15): "Gene, The Dash suspected you might have been the shakiest head-coaching hire since Greg Robinson (16) when you were named last year to replace Tommy Tuberville. Now that you're 5-0, it's time to say The Dash was wrong. There are plenty of losable games left for the Tigers, but you're one win from bowl eligibility and looking good. Meanwhile, the man many people wanted to get the job, Buffalo's Turner Gill (17), is 1-4 -- though it should be noted that the Bulls lost all-time leading rusher James Starks to a shoulder injury before the season started. Gill is still a good coach. But so are you, Gene. War Eagle, and so forth."
Somebody needs to chop block the reporter.
RK, he's in your town. You engage him high until J-Z gets there to chop him down.
What am I saying? I don't endorse intentional chop blocks.
Kathy, last time I went to BR we stayed at a hotel right across from a strip bar. I suggest that one
I'm also interested in hearing these hotel recommendations...I've been twice, both times in college while staying with friends. In the market for a hotel for 4 this time around...
Everyone, please now post the number of times that Ryan Pugh has been penalized for chop blocks?
Please, not all at once.
Maybe Rucker was confused with Chaz Ramsey. If he was, that makes the grand total 2.
I guess that would be multiple times.
RK, that's what I was thinking too. Chris Fowler and Verne Lundquist have still not forgiven Ramsey for that one I don't think.
Kathy: I made my BR hotel reservations 364 days ahead of time. That's the only way to roll when it comes to that place.
Either way, it's Chattanooga. David Paschall is about the only credible sports writer that we have.
I told you yesterday. Stay in New Orleans. Lots of Auburn folks do that. The French Quarter is Orange and Blue on Friday night. It's fun. Baton Rouge, not as fun; not as many Auburn fans.
Paschall's an Auburn grad, so that makes sense. I also use to work with Mark Wiedmer's wife. He seem so okay as well and absolutely hates UT. I dig that.
Weid's is pretty good too.
Paschall actually wrote the feature story for the 1989 Iron Bowl in the game program.
He's a good guy too.
Pugh got the flag in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl and this one. That makes two that I'm aware of.
Chris Fowler = worthless tool who's journalistic qualifications consist of ... [cricket's chirping and whispering "good hair?"].
Verne has same the qualifications as Fowler (sans the good hair).
Verne and Chris are far more qualified and talented than Bob Davies, however.
Fowler just always seems disgusted when he has to discuss anything remotely southern.
Is it just me or does it seem like before we play a big game, West Virginia or Tennessee, all we hear is how good they are and how it is going to be a really tough game. And then after we beat them, we hear they really weren't very good.
It might be just me.
Let's be honest with ourselves ... had garden variety OL chop blocked Groves or Sen'Derrick, or someone who was expected to be a top 10 pick, we'd be screaming like little girls at a Hannah Montana concert. And we'd expect the media to remember it, too.
Maybe they need to get over it, but maybe we need to understand that that's the added price for that penalty.
good point, Bro J
As for the announcers, I wish Verne and Blackledge were still together -- I loved that duo. Danielson, if you get past the whiny voice, analyzes a game well, IMO.
Fowler strikes me as a tool. Corso is a clown, and revels in it. Herbie is the pretty boy who wants to be taken seriously. Holtz is a clown who doesn't realize he's a clown.
Mark May looks like someone who's about to euthanize a former N.C. State-New York Jets-Arkansas-Minnesota-Notre Dame-South Carolina coach on the air. Rece is a Bammer, but he can't help it.
So who's goin to NWA?
Sean, you have my interest. NWA?
For all who like to bang on Bob Davies (or Rod and Stan), it's easy to throw stones when you've never sat in the booth and tried to call a game.
If you have, more power to you.
Having been there before, I can sympathize with the way they do things even if I don't care for it.
That's not as easy as it sounds.
I am, and I can't wait.
I apparently will have an extra ticket for sale -- the mother of my son's roommate purchased her son a ticket to the Arkansas game online not understanding that the game was in Fayetteville.
Well I'm off to the ATL to see U2 tonight, so I'll catch everyone tomorrow.
I don't have a problem with getting up in arms about a chop block. My problem is when people insist that it was intentional and that it's something coached, like they especially did with Ramsey's back in '07.
I worked with the football team for four years while Nall was there. Never once did I see Coach Nall teach a chop block drill. I can't speak for what Grimes coaches, but I'm guessing he doesn't condone that either and he'll be in Pugh's ear about it.
Sometimes a chop block happens in the same an unintentional face mask happens. Sometimes it is an effort penalty when the speed of the game is that fast, you don't always realize what you're doing.
BR Trippers:
If you're willing to cross the Atchafalaya or coming from the west, there are good places to stay and eat at Lafayette (pronounced Laffy-ette), 40 to 50 miles west of Baton Rouge on I-10. Good Cajun food at a number of places. Much closer than NO but you do have to cross the swamp.
Maybe they fill up early there, too, for LSWho--I dunno.
Sensi ...
My belief is ... for those guys, it's about as easy as it gets. You either have talent or you don't.
They don't have to worry about available phone lines, balky equpiment, making boards, spotting for themselves, etc.
The guys who call games on Friday nights on top of a rickety press box (or worse, scaffolding) after working all day on Friday -- well, yes, it can be a challenge.
RK,
Enjoy it. Hope Bono doesn't preach to much to you.
Seems like we were penalized in the Florida game, LSU game, and Peach Bowl back in 07 due to chop blocks. Count me in the group of fans that were ashamed of the regularity of the penalties. Not saying they were all on purpose, but you definitely saw a pattern.
I haven't seen the chop block in question from this last week, so I can't comment. But I'm not sure there is a dirtier play in football than going low when a d-lineman is engaged with another o lineman.
Jet,
Too true.
Though I know for a fact Barry McKnight puts serious time into his broadcasts for Troy games.
I use to loathe Mark May, but now he's the only barrier to the ridiculous lover's glance that Lou Holtz continues to throw in Notre Dame's direction.
The other night, Lou Holtz stated that Clausen was the leading candidate for the Heisman.
You never see Mark May continually extoll the virtues of being a Pitt Panther and Rece Davis doesn't let his Bama pride show ever. Lou Holtz is the exception to the rule of impartiality.
Anyone see the video of the mark may... cough... during Lou Holtz's Clausen pitch? Now that was some pretty funny unintentional comedy.
Do we intentionally chop block? I don't think so. I hope not. But we cut block regularly, and when you do, that means you are likely to chop block.
Hey, if you eat Mexican all the time, you're gonna pass gas. Don't get mad if people are offended. Either diversify your diet, or keep eatin' burritos and deal with it.
DARVIN ADAMS!!!!!!
NWA= Northwest Arkansas, for the uninitiated. I've already been once this year. I have fulfilled my quota.
The Ozarks are pretty, though I don't if that entails NWA or not.
Kool Aid & the Gang
Sensi, if you mix a little cool aid with whatever it is you drink, you'll have an excellent cocktail.
Sean,
That would be a lethal concoction.
Celebrate good times, come on!
I need some Kool-Aid for Sundays...my pro team is killing me. 0-4? Terrible.
Me too, Sean. Titans 0-4.
Norm remembers the pom-pom routine the cheerleaders at his alma mater used to do to Kool and the Gang's smash hit "Celebration."
In fact, he's been known to recreate it if you urge him nicely.
I have a strong dislike for Barry McKnight on a personal and a professional level. I think he and his WMSP cohort are the lowest employed form of "media" alive.
I will say McKnight's TU broadcasts are satisfactory.
Still, my opinion couldn't be lower.
I'll have to atone for that statement at confession, but some sins are worth the price.
You go to confession?
I go to concession frequently.
Oh, CONFESSION?
Uh, nevermind.
I'll take a popcorn and a lemonade please.
LOL Jay..
Glad I don't dislike anybody on HABOTN to that degree....
Let me get this straigh, professional sportscasters who are grown men and getting paid (handsomely) who prepare (and/or fed information by grunts) all week to sit in a comfortable box and critique 18-22 year old kids are above criticism? We should all just sit back and admire their "courage" and devotion?
Can you hear that? I've got two coconuts and I'm banging them together.
BigSnacks, I told my traveling crew your suggestion of New Orleans, but I also need hotel suggestions for there too! The last time I was in New Orleans they were underwater and we were rescuing dogs. I had to stay in a barn outside of town!
Kathy: In NOLA, we always stay at the Courtyard on St. Charles. It's only a block from the top of Bourbon St. ... and it's nice ... and it's reasonably priced.
Comm'r
That's a stretch from the intent or message of my post.
It's one thing to just not care for the way people do things in the broadcast booth. (Jay G. and others have made their opinions clear about their preferences.)
It's another to call someone a moron because you may not care for how they do their job.
No one is above criticism or an ass kicking for that matter.
"Hotels of the HABOTN with Jay G."
This could be a regular segment of your favorite hotel, motels, B&Bs and the like of the SEC.
Give them HOT or NOT ratings. Same for restaurants and other establishments.
I so wish I had brought my camera when my daughter said to Longshore: "So you're the guy who says mean things about my Daddy on the radio?"
It was awesome.
John, of course, wouldn't own up to it. He lied to my daughter, said he didn't say mean things about me. Spineless.
If you're going to spend your days ragging people on the air, you have to stand behind it. Just have to.
Both WV and UT were good. If UT's passing game was decent, they would likely be one of the top 2 or 3 teams we will play. Being able to count on Crompton for pass defense really helped.
West Virginia is much better than most people thought they would be. They are certainly a contender in the Big East, although Cincinnati will likely win the conference.
Arkansas is a different challenge, but I think people will see that our defense is much better than people believe. We did a much better job stopping that UT running
Just catching up some. I would like to nominate Steve FC for the holder position for the HABOTN place kicking team. This did not get resolved it seems like, but I think that Sensi snapping to Steve FC and Michael kicking his hold would be awesome.
I'm not above a butt-kicking.
Who's first?
Do I get to do the Lucy/Charlie Brown thang?
Only if you want to.
I can throw a name in the ring if you would like Jay....
Do you do butt kickings by proxy?
Jay G.,
Will you be the butt kicker or kickee?
The snarky JGT is appealing. I like it.
I've already had mine kicked by you.
Thanks.
I'll be taking my lumps from Hoopie and Steve and any other brave soul tonight I suppose.
Calling Longshore spineless may be an insult to invertebrates.
Personally, I am not a violent person. I prefer to hire someone to do my butt kicking for me. Karma is much better that way.
IV: I intentionally left that vague.
Lying to a 6-year-old girl? Man up.
I've ranted about announcers ad nauseam. They simply suck. It's too weird not having the sounds of the game to mute it, otherwise I would.
JGT - if it's all the same to you, I'd just prefer to stay away from the butt-kicking. However, I wouldn't mind watching one (or several) at all. No sir, not at all.
Jet - indeed I do remember that routine. I also recall one night in particular that A.H., M.L. and I did in fact recreate it using the roof of a certain '76 Caprice as our stage.
Jay,
I would not be happy for anyone to lie to a six year old intentionally, regardless of the fact that she was my daughter or not.
Santa Claus?
Actually, that's not accurate. That is rooted in some history. Withdrawn.
What about Santa Claus? That guy's awesome.
Norm,
I imagine that troika was involved in several activities of note through the years.
Of course, I share the AH/ML car wreck story on ML's 16th birthday to all 16 year olds who can't wait to get behind the wheel.
That's what I was about to say, Sensi. I was able to defend SC stories by referring to St. Nicholas. The EB and the TF are a little tougher.
I have seen Easter Bunny, too.
She was great on the pole.
This comment has been removed by the author.
Am I too late for the butt kicking???? As long as it is not mine that is.....
I lie to my 5 year old all the time. Should I stop when she turns 6?
Sensi: I agree that we shouldn't paint with too broad a brush, particularly when it comes to judgements about professional competency. Perhaps the focus
(and middle ground) should be with limiting the critque to specific examples of moronic commentary, e.g., when Davies described all spread offenses in monolithic fashion during the WVU game. He's the football "guru" hired by a major network; he should know better.
bunnies....nice.
I know 53 football players and a full coaching staff that love butt-kickings, they're due for two more in the next two weeks.
I'm bitter.
One Easter, a rabbit was running around our living room when woke up in the morning. I guess my Dad caught one outside and brought it inside. I've never asked.
All I can say is Damn Michael..... You crack me up.......
Kathy, I checked the web for availability on a hotel that I like in NO, but it was already booked for the game weekend. If you want the info for future reference, I'll be happy to provide it.
How about Davies' co-hort who was doing the play by play and couldn't get the players right or pronounce their names correctly?
Is there a spell check function for blog posts? I'm Tony Spanklin the English language today.
Thanks Scott Choco. We might just have to head closer to home after the game and find a room.
Bowdens just can't bow out gracefully:
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4531451
Pete Fiutak of CFN thinks Bowden should be able to go out how he pleases.
http://cfn.scout.com/2/906537.html
Discuss among yourselves. Unfortunately, I'm leaving for West Gomorrah.
Whole lotta butt-kickin' talk going on today. Generally something that should be done more than discussed.
Phred, you are kicking the crap out of me with our bet. Good luck. I hope to get thoroughly kicked.
Add Jim Rome to the long list of butts I would like to kick. That dude is beyond annoying.
I think Bowden deserves a ton of credit for what he's done at FSU. He's pretty much created that program. But he should be honest with himself and realize that somebody could come in an do a better job than him.
That's why it bothers me when legendary coaches stay past their sell date. I understand that they think they should be able to do things on their own terms, but it's disrespectful to their program and their university to continue on for reasons that are less than selfless.
That said, I don't agree with the FSU board member going public with all this. Bowden doesn't deserve that. But he should realize he's dragging the program down and do what's best.
Jim Rome = Father of punk sports attitudes from a bunch of wannabes.
Kathy...depending on how far you are willing to drive east on I12 before stopping. Hammod is 40 miles east. Covington is another 20miles east and Slidell is another 25 miles east further. Hamilton and Covington have hotel/motels, not sure about restaurant quality. Slidell(85 miles east of BR) has a lot of choices.
Does anyone else find it funny that once Bowden actually steps down, the team will be taken over by Jimbo Fisher... who is largely responsible for much of the erratic play of the Noles?
Jet - that troika was indeed involved in a number of activities where stories of legend originated. Add J.C. to the mix and you have even more. I remember that 16th birthday wreck quite well as I was sitting in the passenger seat of the M.L. vehicle. I know that we were in good hands since K.C. was a passenger in the other vehicle and he told a homeowner who came out to render assistance, "sir, it's O.K. I'm an Eagle Scout, everything's under control."
my sis says the FSU fan base is divided in Tallahassee. half think he should move on and half think he can go when he wants. it's a tough one fo shizzle.
Simpler version. Jim Rome = Unfunny douche.
Skip Bayless = I cry at night because I'm not Jim Rome.
Bayless is a fairy. agree with that.
I just don't get the argument that a coach should be able to go out on his terms when the program he coaches is sinking like the Titanic.
Are a coach's feelings more important than an entire football program?
Sorry Skip, I didn't mean to bring you into it, but whenever I see you on First and 10 I die a little inside.
I don't understand the coach in waiting business... couldn't FSU lure someone better than Jimbo if they had just waited?
The guy on cfn also talks about what things would be like if Tubs had hired Malzahn a year ago instead of Franklin?
I guess my response is, well, he didn't, so maybe that's why he's no longer coaching at Auburn. Plus, if he did, would he let Gus really run his offense?
No way in Hades E-Bro. Tub is on record of how he feels bout Malzahn.
Bro - If frogs had wings...
I don't get all that backward looking speculation. It's stupid and a waste of time.
Agreed Sean and Norm.
ehyou
What have I ever done to you....bring it fool
Forward speculation is equally as stupid.
I am a stupid time waster, so...
Would Malzahn + Tubs assistants be any better than Franklin + Tubs assistants? I don't know, Malzahn does like to run the ball first to set up the pass. That would make them happier. Balls would still be bouncing off receivers hands though. And I think since Todd would not have had an arm last year, Malzahn would have run into the same stalled offense that Franklin ran. (how would the West Va game been this year if Todd had his 2008 arm?)
I do think Malzahn would have been worth one or two more games, but nothing as pretty as what has happened this year.
What do you guys think about the Tuberville situation from last year?
You shut your mouth!
Michael, a wise man (Norm) once said (five comments ago):
"I don't get all that backward looking speculation. It's stupid and a waste of time."
Haha
E-Bro, my guess is Tuberville & Co. would not have let Malzahn run his offense. I think you would have seen something similar to what happened with Malzahn at Arkansas. Tuberville and the Nutt are very similar. I am not saying Tuberville's philosophy is better or worse. It is just different.
We should all praise Chizik for having the balls to install a "spread" offense at Auburn after what occurred last season. Jacobs deserves a lot of credit for hiring someone that would do this. I do consider it risky. There are plenty of gurus (TF) out there that seem to know what they are doing but flop (TF) when it comes to playing with the big boy. I don't want to mention names.
you know what a stupid waste of time is...talking to strangers on a blog, but then again I like wasting time
Jim Rome...
I'm a man. I'll admit when I criticize someone.
*cough*
Longshore
*cough*
ehyou - when will you be performing your cycle?
Harrison - how can you call me a stranger? I thought we were best friends. I BUILT YOU A HELICOPTER FOR YOUR CAT FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!
i didn't mean you Michael. I know tons of stuff about you. one is that you're way taller than i expected. two is uhhh you're good at math probably. three is you stink at building helicopters
So I'm doing a Q-and-A for a newspaper in Arkansas.
Good question here.
Q: Who gets the advantage between Bobby Petrino and Gene Chizik?
A: Can't tell yet. I like Petrino a lot on a professional level. He was a very bad man at Louisville. Gene Chizik was useless at Iowa State. Is he suddenly better now? I'm still trying to understand this renaissance and until I can figure that out, I can't really say who is the better coach.
This comment has been removed by the author.
Harrison - I think saying I stink at building helicopters is a stretch. It looked like a helicopter, didn't it? What else do you want from me?
Jay's Q - Different types of head coach. Chiz is quality control, Petrino is offensive coordinator. Petrino is more likely to directly affect the success or failure of his team, in my opinion. There's a reason there is more Malzahn worship occurring in the "blogosphere" than Chiz (though there is plenty of that too, he is clearly doing a good job)
Back to the announcers for a sec. One of my favorites was Ron Franklin when he did ESPN's night game. I though it was a big mistake to move him off that game
I think many misjudge the job Chizik did at Iowa State. He played a lot of young players and the record showed it. You can't judge a head coach just based upon wins and loses, especially for just a two year stint. As I say, a head coach isn't really a coach. He is primarily a manager.
if they got in a fight though Chizik would kick his butt. That's what the question was right??
I could see Petrino biting and pulling hair though
Jay G. the renaissance is in your answer...Iowa St. Mack Brown only won 3 ball games in his first couple of seasons at UNC. It happens when you're rebuilding a dead program.
That said, way too early to tell either way. Petrino is more of a douche if that qualifies for anything, but I don't think it does.
Hands down, Chizik would kick Petrino's butt. Actually, that is one of the comebacks I am saving for the Iron Bowl should we lose. Our head coach could kick your head coaches butt, so there.
Why is it that defensive coaches are more quality control as head coaches than offensive coaches? I mean, besides the obvious that a quarterback is probably the most important person on the team.
Of defensive coaches who are head coaches, only Pete Carrol comes to mind as somebody still heavily involved with that side of the ball for games.
Bro asks a difficult hypothetical and thereby KILLS the thread.
For real. I take it back.
May it RIP.
I can't recall the last time I saw a HABOTN thread this dead. Since no one is here to entertain me, I'm going home!
But seriously, what do you guys think about the Boston College coaching situation?
Hey everyone. What a crazy day. Glad it's coming to an end. All that is left to do is the show tonight!
Choco Scottie... I understand from BP that there's a Sister Schubert story from the WVU game?
What up j-z how are you doing?
Your pics this weekend were something else.
Well they were..can't see them now for some reason.
30 minutes until the kickoff of the Franklin Bowl. This should be interesting.
JayG- I am up by 5:30am. I can meet you at the studio for some butt kicking. He is such an idiot and knows ZERO about football. The only thing he does is scarf a free meal or activity for himself.
Who is the better play-caller- Petrino or Malzahn?
AUfan:
That's like asking which Mercedes is best...
Franklin's team about to take the field on offense.
Tony Franklin always looks...disheveled.
Flip it.
Somebody, please.
