I am on a rollllllllllllllllll!!!!
False start ... on Jay G. Tate ... posting the blog four minutes early ... five yard penalty from the previous spot ...repeat the down.
I feel like Lee Ziemba now.
I love that closing you do with Ted Roof!
Or Andrew McCain.
No, Jay. There should be a pattern before you feel like Ziemba.
Todd: "We just need to execute."
The question is who.
Knowledge is power?
Can Knowledge play linebacker?
Bro jet, i still think Chizik's Chin is the best option at LB.
thanks for the video Jay G. did anyone ask Todd about is arm? unless that is a dumb question...then forget i asked.
According to Rod on the Auburn Review, sounds like the wind affected Todd's passes and he can't believe Auburn had 10 penalties compared to none for Kentucky.
I remembered why I listen to the AU broadcast only as a last resort.
We've lost to Vandy and UK in consectutive years? I'd like to wake up from this nightmare now - please.
So for all the sound and fury this year, it is shaping to be just like last year except for the reversal of the West Virginia game (with Kentucky playing the role of Vandy). Yet I am not nearly as discouraged about the current state of the team. Is this because last year just beat me to a pulp or because I have hope in the future? As Mike Tyson once said, "Man, I don't know. Yeah."
"Wennox, I'm comin for you!"
Jet...
Totally off topic. What are the chances that Larry Langford walks in your opinion?
Todd said his shoulder is fine.
So I took my 3.5 year old to his first AU game. Wife chickened out last minute due to the cold. I used to tell people that a bad day in Auburn beat a good day anywhere else. I may now have to rethink that statement.
What a miserable day...cold, windy, wet, etc. My son, who did not get much sleep the night before was tired and ill-tempered. I knew it was going to be bad when we scored on the blocked field goal, and he complained I was too loud. Anyway, he was sleepy, hungry, cold, bored, and...oh yeah, whiney. Finally his meltdowns forced us to leave...in the second quarter.
As I carried him on my shoulders to the car, I was angry, at him, at my wife, and at myself for being dumb enough to take a 3.5 year old to a night game by myself. However, in reflecting on this today I realized how grateful I was that I didn't have to witness the second half. The only thing worse would have been having Rod describe it and make excuses for it.
I think I'll go thank my boy...War Eagle, and beat LSU!
I think 7 years old is the perfect age to indoctrinate little boys on Auburn football.
That's how I old I was when I went to my first Auburn game. It was LSU at home in 1989. Loved everything about that day from the moment we stepped out of the car. I loved Auburn then and there and never looked back.
So wait till he's twice as old wtc, and then bring him back. He'll be a Tiger for life then.
e-bro... I was at that game... as a student... damn I am getting old...
WARRRRRRR EAGLE!!!!
GO AU TIGERS!!!
great video, as always, JGT. Excellent choice of closing music, whatever it is.
Good morning everyone.
Good morning Hotties!!!
Getting ready to head to West Virginia via long drive. I'll check in this evening and maybe along the way. Thank good for Iphone Apps that allow me to listen to radio from just about anywhere that streams it on the web!
I hear West Virginia is Hawt.
I don't know why you'd want to go to WV, but safe travels Eddie.
I'm too lazy to link this morning, but here is a good read by Rob Pate on his evaluation of the game:
http://eyesonauburn.blogspot.com/2009/10/14-21-loss-to-kentucky-as-i-vomit-in-my.html
Thanks RK. WV work pays the bill for my company right now. WV is awesome IMO until work stops, then it goes back to sucking.
DL
Do not talk about getting old. I was at that 1989 LSU game, as a young mother with a 4 year old daughter and almost 3 year old son in tow. We started taking them when daughter was 6 months old and they were great. They grew up thinking that is what you did on Saturdays in the fall. Now daughter has graduated from AU and son will in May! Can't wait until we have grandchildren who will be coming to the games.
Rob Pate pretty much summed up my thoughts exactly.
Pate also referenced the play in the UT game where I was saying yesterday was when Todd started looking less like the Todd that started the season.
FSJ ...
Remember ... it only takes one to walk.
Just sayin'.
Or in the parlance of the day, U.S Government minus-12 on the road is a tough cover.
i love getting on the computer this morning to receive all the emails & facebook messages from all my old UK friends/co-workers. gag.
Hey Scottie B, what happened to you and Tucker! Nick & Zeke were so bummed :)
Stand and sing, as you are able:
Somewhere, some day
There'll be a new a way of living.
There'll be a way of way of forgiving...
Some day.
War Eagle, y'all!
Well it's a new week, LSU is a team that can be beaten, but we will need improved QB play over the past two weeks to do it.
sorry Cincy. Tucker & i came to campus early b/c the family decided to grill & eat at my sister's place instead of campus. it was too cold for the girls. we strolled by but i guess you hadn't got out there yet. we didn't get back on campus till it was time for Tiger Walk. we saw Kristina as we were leaving.
the highlight of the entire weekend was getting to chat with Frank Sanders after the home run derby. he was very cool. also got to chat with Gabe Gross. i hadn't talked to him in 10 years.
Todd told us last year that his arm was "fine". He either didn't know it was a noodle, or lied last year. I have no faith that his arm is in fact 'fine' this year, unless fine refers to the 2008 definition.
Just had a scary thought. Maybe the losses are all my fault. Since we wrote the contract on our new condo, we have lost both games. In fact we were negotiating during the TN game. Just after we came to terms is when Chris took that big hit. We haven't done well since. Do you think this could be the reason?!
I don't expect Todd or the coaches to say anything is wrong with his shoulder. There is really no upside for them to admit anything is wrong.
The other team's DC will have little doubt after watching game film. I just wonder if the coaches think a weakened Todd is a better option than either Trotter or Caudle.
NO!!!
The no was for Cincy.
Thanks, IV, I was worried.
IV,
If you decide to come for a game, we will have a warm, dry place for you to enjoy tailgating! Come join us if you make it down.
Well, off to Bible study. Have an AUsome day today!! It is great to be an AUBURN TIGER!
I don't expect Todd or the coaches to say anything either however...
a) if Todd is hurt and not telling anyone and trying to tough it out, he's hurting himself and the team.
b) if the coaches know he's hurt and keeping him out there, they are hurting Todd and the team.
c) If Todd is healthy and just struggling, someone get with him and figure out what the problem is and fix it or give someone else a shot.
I am starting to think that the coaching staff still believes that Cris Todd, hurt or whole , is our best option to have a chance to win games. If this is the case, we are in a world of hurts. I admire Chris for what he has done. He fought through all the adversity and contributed in a big way in the early part of the season. Now, not so much. I think the team goes as the QB goes. I just hope that the coaches look long and hard at this situation. This could define their legacy as far as a staff is concerned.
API is right. Todd did say his arm was fine last year. It wasn't, and it's not. The question is, what stops coaches and players from telling the truth and making the necessary changes? It just doesn't make any sense to me.
Also, the ultimate coach-speak violation has to be saying "lack of execution" when answering a question about why the team is struggling.
And, yes, it is great to be an Auburn Tiger.
Chizik's halftime comments when we had less than 30 yards passing at the half and he said "we have to get the running game going" made me wonder if he knew we were not going to get the passing game going for whatever reason.
The running game was all that was working in the 1st half, and eventually the game.
Yes, it is great to be an Auburn Tiger. I have never been anything else.
Has anyone thought that it may be time to give Kodi another chance at QB? He has shown sparks of being able to handle it. I don't think that he is the best option at being our wildcat QB, so why not give him a second chance. Todd has had a second chance.
Wasn't last year Kodi's second and third chance?
Sensi, your avatar is spot on.
Sensi, I thought Saturday was bad, but yesterday gave me a healthy dose of perspective.
Sensi,
That was last year. Remember, there were a lot of peeps that thought he was going to be our QB this year. I am not necessarily advocating Kodi as THE QB, I just think that it may be time to look at someone else and I would have to think that the first someone else would be Kodi since he does have game experience over the other options.
Two weeks ago when we were 5-0, I thought we'd probably have a 9-3 or 10-2 season.
After the past two games and seeing Todd struggle I'll go with 7-5 with wins vs Furman & UGA.
LSU and Ole Miss are both winnable games, but it would require the Chris Todd of the 1st 4 games returning.
At my 11:33 post last night, I meant to address wes, not wtc. Apologies.
Morning....
Hey number one.
mornin'
E_bro: If I had a 3.5 year old, I porlly would have agreed with you. Saturday night was too cold for me to havebrought mine at that age, but I did see alot of little ones in attendance. I will say that it really never too early to get the little ones introduced to the AU family.
I can't believe that I am going to say this but an Auburn win this weekend would help Alabama.
FSJ,
Is that some backwards way of you wanting us to cheer against our own team?
Well, let's lose, I don't want to help Bama.
I know I'll say this. A Tennessee win this weekend would mean the world to us. :)
FSJ, you really think Bama needs LSU to have 2-3 losses?
I keed everyone.
scottie,
I don't think so...but you never know.
Wouldn't be surprised at all if LSU lost again besides Bama. Hopefully it's this weekend. If they lose to us, they'll lose four or five.
lol E-Bro about the UT comment..
BTW, I hate UT with a CRIMSON passion.
Maybe Kiffin will land on the field at Tuscaloosa in the helicopter he flew in while recruiting this past weekend.
It'll be interesting to see how the Vols come in with a positive off week in their back pocket.
What's the early spread on that game?
i think they said 17 points on the radio earlier today.
LSU...
Then I'd probably take the Vols and the points. Probably be similar to the South Carolina game a couple of days ago.
...Tigers
17 points is too high.
depends which Crompton shows up for UT.
17, that seems like the spread every week for Bammer.
I'm almost to Scottie B country.
Here is my daily FU Tuberville as promised.
Sure is Monday and it is a beautiful day. Got down to 34 last night here on the banks of the Coosa River.
We are 5-2, about where we thought we would be, but it feels like we are having a losing season. Maybe because of losing two in a row to Arkie and Ky.
Why are the coaches talking about not tackling and penaties 7 games into the season, that should have been taught back in the spring and fall practice sessions. It is too late to teach that now because you need to spend time on game plans.
"depends which Crompton shows up for UT."
Never thought I'd see a sentence like that. Only thought that there was one Crompton, and that he was terrible. That said, going back to his 4th quarter against us, you might say he's played decent two games in a row. But it seems we'll make any QB look good this year and Georgia's defense is not much better than ours.
He may go from facing the two worst defenses in the league to one of the two best on Saturday, though he just about hung in there against Florida a month ago.
The winning team may not score 17.
whattup Eddie. picture me waving.
'Sup Hotties? I've been out of pocket the last few days and no time to do my HABOTN catchup. I have a pretty good idea what I missed. I'll say this, thinking of the first 5 games, I still look forward to all the remaining games. Thinking of the last 2 games, I dread all the remaining games. But with that said, I'm still pleased with the season, the staff, the efforts, the recruiting, the whole thing.
Keep Hate Alive. I know I will.
Well said, Norm.
Hate bama and Tubs!!!!
in honor of THT...
Hating Bama and the guy who beat them six times in a row. What a difference a year makes.
How bout hating Bama while scorning Tubs for the current roster predicament?
I don't hate Tubs, but I recognize the mess he's left that has to be cleaned up.
Sorry I still like Tubs and the job he did up and until the last two years. I still think he will emerge somewhere and do a good job.
Tubs had a nice 3 year run. I can understand the rough going the first couple of years, but the wheels fell off the wagon to say the least.
Someone click the links!
FENG, YOU BLOODSUCKER!
Bloodsucker - that reminds me of vampires. I think they're real.
Of all the people to show up and turn on Auburn, I would have never expected it from Feng!
I'm disgusted.
that game saturday night sucked the life outta me. ain't gonna lie. i'll be back, though.
Feng is a fairweather fan. Go root for bammer, Feng!
Norm - Even if you didn't think they were real, it is best to live like they are real, because then you are at least protected, you know?
Vampires, they get a bad rep.
Bye Hotties,
I'm leaving.
for a couple of weeks. I'll be in Miami for a couple of days for my usual midweek routine, then off to LA, Vegas, and Jacksonville. This place better not suck when I come back. Someone go over to Bitter's Blog and tell Aero to come back. He posts there sometimes. Someone else go find Chris Todd's arm. The morale around here is better when it's full attached.
Speaking of Vampires...For anyone who was a fan of Mystery Science Theater 3000, below is a clip of the MST3K guys doing their thing on Twilight.
Just scroll down and click on "Watch Sample".
http://www.rifftrax.com/rifftrax/twilight
Bye Hotties, I'm leaving too.
For lunch.
I will not go to any other blogs in search of anyone recently departed. They had their own reasons for departing and I'm not going to try and change their minds. I'm perfectly fine with this blog and the usual posters. Except for Jet. My contempt for him is well documented.
PF you big tease.
Mystery Science Theater. Wish that was still on Comedy Central. Years ago, me and my buddies thought we had this cool idea to watch movies and make irreverent jokes the whole time and it would be funny.
Then we saw MST shortly thereafter. Appears original ideas are harder and harder to come by.
That show was always funny.
I hold you in contempt, Norm!
I'm back for a second. Re; MST3K those guys do all kinds of crazy stuff nowadays. I saw them on facebook. I think they tour.
Good write-up by Rob Pate. That game was so frustrating on both sides of the ball. I have decided that it's quite possible that my 93-year-old grandmother could rush for about 115 yards against this AU defense. They would probably miss her and tackle her walker. Of course, my grandmother would never embarrass them like that, as she is a big AU fan.
where is this Rob Pate article?
Scottie, Eddie linked it back at his 6:35 post.
THANKS E-BRO
Here it is
Pate must have missed the almost half of the game Gabe McKenzie was on the field. He was a part of the substitute D line.
Was thinking the same thing Sensi.
Low dropped us to tenth in the SEC power rankings. Don't totally disagree, but it's still weird looking at a 1-2 UT team that we beat 3 spots ahead.
It's all about how your are trending. UT is trending up since losing to us. We are trending in another direction. It's now straight down, but it's not up either.
I spent some time early this morning going back to look at the play-by-play.
The more I look at the game, the defense actually hung in there until the final two possessions. They're not very good, but the major issues were on offense.
Penalties and Todd's arm were the major killers.
i can't blame the defense at all. they were on the field a ton in the 2nd half. ZERO 2nd half points by our offense. ZERO. oh, and 8 penalties in the 4th quarter alone.
6 penalties on that one drive.
Jet,
I've decided that if Langford goes down that I am taking over at Birmingham City Hall..
First order of business..changing the name to Bammerham.
Is there news with LL today, FSJ?
I don't read the fish wrapper often, so I am behind on Langford watch.
I can't go as far as not blaming the defense at all, but I agree that the offense has to shoulder (pun not intended) the majority of the blame.
Yeah, our defense is poor, but I thought before the game that if we had given up 21 points, we still would've won by 10-15 points. The offense essentially only scored 7 points, and that came off a drive that started at midfield.
We still gained 200 yards in the second half, but no points. Our defense will get beat everytime in that scenario.
Sensi..
His corruption trial starts today. It was moved to Tuscaloosa due to the publicity.
FSJ ...
Changing the name? More like confirming.
Says here Larry keeps his job.
As the old saying goes, he hasn't been caught in bed with a dead woman or a live boy.
Our defense played well...our defensive strategy was questionable.
Let me rephrase, our defense played well for 3 quarters, the defensive strategy was very questionable for all 4 quarters.
rk, I saw a ton of blitzing, which was welcome.
Of course, the D was tired in the 4th, which is what Jay G and Roof tried to tell us before. But wouldn't they have been tired anyway? I say yes they would.
Still, at the end of the day, Kentucky's O netted 14 points against the D (scoring 21 outright). They scored 26 against South Carolina and 20 against Alabama the last two weeks. You have to point the finger at the Auburn offense in this one.
Our "Wildcat" already looks a lot like playing the second string quarterback to me, only with a wasted WR position, so there should be no controversy about playing another QB. If CT starts off against LSU like he's played against Arky and Tucky, Neil Caudle should play.
I still say if we put 8 in the box and dared them to pass we win the game despite our offensive struggles.
We also have a wasted WR in several other formations, because it's not like we are throwing to Kodi when he is on the field as a WR.
Maybe we ought to hurt some beat hacks. You know, try to change things up a little.
I watched the game from a sports bar and my perception always seems to slacken in those circumstances, but I'm still not sold on Todd's arm being shot.
His confidence, his decision making, his overall effectiveness? Sure. Except for the Fannin throw, I didn't feel like his throws had a whole lot less zip on them. He was never Peyton Manning to begin with. Going back to his deep ball against Arkansas that he missed and ones from this Kentukcy, I didn't feel like the throws looked any different than previous games. He just didn't connect on them.
Look at McElroy, he's had a couple of below average games in a row. It happens. Doesn't mean he's going to turn it around. He is struggling right now, but I'm not 100% convinced it's arm-related.
Agree? Disagree?
I agree BroJet. I was almost run down by a golf cart carrying a beat hack to the game Saturday and am carrying a grudge.
Hola Habotnistas!! My Habotnizing has been hampered by elevated degrees of heavy toiling caused by habitual procrastination. However, my hate continues to run high!
E-Bro, beyond the Fannin throw, prety much every time Todd threw the ball and we ended up screaming "Why did he throw that ball downfield in double coverage!!??", when viewed on the replay, you can see that the Auburn receiver had a step and Todd just threw it woefully short.
Also, it really looked like Todd was winding up and really putting his all into some of the shorter throws, which is also a sign.
I don't know, maybe the arm isn't shot, but he sure is playing like it is.
Did someone say beat hack on a stick?
E-Bro, I was in the stadium and stone cold sober. If Todd's shoulder isn't hurt then he just doesn't have an SEC arm. Either way he's not able to deliver the ball against SEC corners. I think he's either weary or hurt because he's lost zip.
I agree with Michael, a lot of the passes into double coverage were covered because the WR wasn't going to be hit anywhere near in stride because the ball wasn't getting there on time.
Maybe the wind had something to do with it, I don't know.
I'll take y'all at your word, but did wind maybe have something to do with it al?. I heard it was pretty windy, but maybe not enough to mess up a throw.
Like I said, arm or no arm, he's definitely playing poor. No argument there. The 4th and 11 throw kind of summed everything up.
FSJ and I are hanging out on the new thread.
