Good point. Man, Jay, that should have been one of your questions for the players. Do you know Sensi and did you know he was an idiot?

I heard Utah was gettin it good. We've got a little at 4000' or so. There is a fair amount of concern that El Nino will have a negative effect on this year's snowfall but I don't believe it.

Send me a message when you do, I'll show you some good spots at Baker. Whistler is phenomenal....if you snowboard you might like Blackcomb better. THe 7 mile run from the top is incredible. Top speed will still take you about 30 min to get down.

9:32 PM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

Steve, from the last thread:

I think Urban will do whatever it takes to win, even if that means risking turning a fairy into fruity pebbles. I think Tebow's too into the game to make a rational decision. I think rentadoc will clear him Thursday. He'll play, and he'll be in danger.

9:33 PM

Steve, Hood is great too! More "flat" like Bachelor, but still lots of fun.

Physics tells me that putting anything my size on a little board on a slick surface at the top of a hill is a bad idea. The last time I went skiing I am proud to say I didn't kill any small children, but I am not going to push my luck.

Kids/men do it every day in HS, College, and the NFL. Met a guy the other day who played at one of those sunbelt schools in florida where everyone gets a concussion playing bigger teams for a paycheck. his coach put him back in too quickly. He got another, had to leave the team. I felt really bad for him.

I got a concussion in 07. I wasn't even knocked out and wasn't sure it was a concussion. I had a headache for about 2 months. Nothing horrible, just a constant headache. And my head where I was hit was very sensitive to touch.

To this day, I get a bit of a headache when I wear a hat or when the weather changes. Anyway, concussions in my experience are the real deal. I can't imagine playing a football game just two weeks after one. But there is nothing to say everyone's concussion is like mine.

9:54 PM
Blogger HamTiger said...

Hope you're right Steve. We better pin our ears back and get in there quick because I am not sure you will be hearing the phrase "coverage sack" a whole lot.

Night, guys. Dreams of quarterback sacks, long AU touchdowns and bacon!

9:57 PM

I think our corners will do fine, but our LBs could get worn down pretty easy. I am hoping to see a lot of nickle with Etheridge playing more of a half linebacker role.

If you squint your eyes and pretend that is navy blue instead of royal blue, MTSU looks EXACTLY like AU did last year, which is ... turrible.

Just rewatched the game.

The wildcat is basically worthless. Has Kodi had a single carry since the first game for more than two yards?

For whatever reason, the d-line wasn't really pushing much. I don't know why. A decision to keep everybody healthy maybe.

No man coverage at all. Apparently we believed the rumors that Crompton sucks.

Against Arky, I hope we rush six and drop back into man. I think we could shut them down if we do. I wish I had recorded Bama - Arky because I'm betting that's what Bama did. If we play zone it might be a long game.

11:37 PM
Blogger chip chip said...

snazzy vid for my AU consumption needs!!!

think chizik can stop the madness of losing to arky when we are favored to win? he can stick with the beating them when we are supposed to lose part.

if AU is ever going to take the next step as a program we can't keep splitting the series with arky. if we could go 4-1 against them over the next 5 years, i would suspect we would be in heavy contention for the west title in 3 or 4 of those 5 years.

i think malzahn will go for the 70s given the chance...i can't wait to see the perfect game...

11:55 PM
Blogger chip chip said...

i hope the franklin effect did not trasmit itself back to the AU offense tonight. he was in troy so he was back pretty close to the scene of the crime. if AU sucks on O this week i'm blaming tony franklin for bringing his cooties back to this state! maryland really sucks if mtsu beat them.

Phread is right. If we play zone or use the delayed blitz with these guys, it is going to be a long night.

6:35 AM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

I don't care about Arky's offense. They let Georgia score enough points to beat them. The same Georgia team that couldn't score ANY points in the first 3 and half quarters a few days ago. Let them pick apart the secondary. Auburn will get a couple of sacks and a couple of picks, and the offense will shame that defense by putting up a billion. The D will be so gassed, they'll be laying down on every play. Ben and FAH will recognize the need to hold the ball and fall down after every untouched 15 yard run. It's gonna be ridiculous!

This week's Lott Shots. Top 5 hits from week 5.

7:08 AM
Blogger ADP said...

Excuse me " ... more than 3.2 yds?"

The stat guys can check but I'm fairly certain that it has produced neither a first down or a touchdown since the first game. Could be wrong. It cost us at least one TD in the UT game, maybe two.

My point is, we are so sucessful in every other way on O, why run it?

That was a great video, Jay. Hollywood is calling if the espn thing doesn't work out.

I haven't had time to listen to the podcast, and won't today either. So Eddie, did you make Sensi tell what it will take for him to Believe?

7:37 AM
Blogger ADP said...

Don't think so. Pretty sure that pass was on a fake reverse which is - a great play. In the wildcat we have two plays. Kodi off left guard and Kodi off right guard. Those are the only two plays in the playbook that don't have the potential to take it to the house.

Anyone find that as humorous as I do?

7:44 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Coosa- We ran out of time before it got very interesting. We have to figure out how to get more time on more entertaining subjects like that. Any suggestions for those that listen to the show?

8:16 AM
Blogger michael said...

Kodi Burns should not run the wildcat inside the 10. We should run the normal O with Tate in the backfield with burns. Without Tate to fake to, the linebackers can key on Burns alone. The player in motion getting the fake handoff on the goal line only freezes the safeties, not the linebackers. In games past, Kodi has had much more success when faking to a rb.

Everyone in the stadium new Kodi couldn't get a touchdown from two yards out at UT with an empty backfield. Makes it too easy on the front 7 of the D.

Yes, this is me giving Malzahn advice.

8:17 AM
Blogger Scott M. Brannan said...

i don't have a problem with the Wildcat. if Malzahn likes it that's good enough for me. of course, i want to see Kodi make plays b/c of what he has done for the team.

8:48 AM
Blogger Loganville Tiger said...

I like that prediction IV - I'll climb on board with ya' on that one.

8:50 AM
Blogger michael said...

The McIrishman dropped TD was a broken play ratscrew anyway. But yes, Kodi should have gotten a TD pass there.

8:55 AM
Blogger Loganville Tiger said...

I believe we have been setting up different plays using the Wildcat with Burns. So far it has been Kodi off left or right guard/tackle gap with a fake thrown in occasionally for good measure. Everyone will be keying on that in the future - so when the time is right - you will see the hand-ff on the end around or a couple of steps toward the line by Kodi, then pulling up and getting a jump pass across the middle to a wide open slot guy as the linebackers suck up.

The Wildcat has its place and much more possibilities than what we have shown to date.

8:56 AM

I'm sticking with 45-30 Auburn!

re: last night's ski talk. Whistler/Blackcomb is simply marvelous, but I haven't been back since a ski popped off at a very high rate of speed. I went airborne and made a one point landing on my right shoulder into a "mogul valley" about 30 feet down the hill. No bounce, no slide, just thud. I broke my shoulder but was extremely fortunate I didn't break my neck. I skied a little slower the rest of the way down the hill.

In US, Snowmass is a great mountain. The single best run is Horsehoe Bowl at Breckinridge. The most relaxing skiing and best food is Deer Valley. Them's my opinions.

I like to ski, but I am a very cautious person, so sometimes those two don't mix. I've decided I do quite well in the hot tub with a cup of chocolate and let my kids be the crazy ones. Kathryn is a dancer and Tyler plays all kinds of sports, so they took to skiing so easily. I wish I had learned at an earlier age.

9:04 AM
Blogger Aeronaut said...

Phred,

Burns was 3.2 YPC. He had a total of 5 carries. You missed the handoffs. Out of three passes one was a throw away, and One TD pass was an easy catch dropped by the receiver.

Facts and stats are against your opinion.

It's not impossible. Your feet could come unattached from your body.

Caution is a bad thing on a snowboard. Well, not caution, but hesitation- much like in football. If you're afraid of getting hit, you'll likely get flattened. I had a bad freak accident several years ago that caused me to get airlifted off a mountain and spend several days in an ICU trauma unit. Since then, I've gotten hurt way more often because I overthink thinks and hesitate. I need to get my mind back where I can just flow. Separated shoulders an joint sprains should not be an aftereffect of a near-death experience.

Blogger IV said...

Snow,

Don't take me wrong, I am glad that you and others have a terrific time doing your thing in the snow. It's just not for me.

Having been born and raised in the deep South and never having lived more than 50 miles from where I was born, snow has always been more trouble than it has been worth around here. By the way, it has snowed here in Prattvegas once the last two winters. It presents problems that we are not prepared for.

9:38 AM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

At some point this year, the Wildcat is gonna freak us all out. We're going to be sitting there saying "what just happened" and look up on the big board in the sky and see six extra points on it, and start screaming.

9:39 AM
Blogger IV said...

I think that we will see some players step up on defense this week. I also think that we will see a different defense than we saw against Tenn. I believe that we were in our base defense for most of the game last week and the coaches felt like we could win doing that. This week, I think we will see more than just our base and it will include more blitzing and stunting. The only thing that does concern me, is that we have not been very good defending the crossing routes.

IV, thanks, and I am glad not everyone loves the snow or else it would be way more crowded than it already is.
I had a dream the other day we went undefeated.
I really think Malzahn has barely touched what he can do with his offense. And I wonder if some of the negotiations involved with these coaches when coming to AU didn't involve some real long term commitment.

All skis, poles, gloves, goggles, and anything else not permanently attached kept going. I stopped at the tree. Thankfully, the 12" long broken off branch headed for my heart was dead enough that it crumbled on impact instead of going through my chest. Another close call. I probably shouldn't ski anymore.

THT, I know it's not funny but that last post made me laugh. I've clipped a few branches myself, and some trunks. I've dislocated my thumb and shoulder due to trees. But tree riding is some of the best and there is generally some untouched powder due to the general public's natural aversion to the trees.

I've never been skiing, but I'm pretty sure I would be awesome at it.

Ehyou, that's the right attitude.

My question to you skiers, how in the hell can what you are describing be fun? Broken bones, concussions, Acl tears, why would you want to continue doing it? I think that sex would be the only activity that would make me continue to do things with that high of a risk. Of course, sex with those kind of risks would indeed be interesting.

Off to work. Thanks everyone for the snow talk. I love the anticipation and stortellilng that preludes every winter. Does anyone know Malzahn's IQ?

I love cold weather. My body pretty much has a furnace inside. Southern folks are my favorite, but the weather just doesn't suit me.

10:19 AM

IV, 99% of the time riding encompasses a completely different realm, often which is beyond description. Kind of like Auburn football this year.

I prefer winter to summer now. When I was much younger, it was the other way around. I can tolerate the cold weather better than hot weather at this age. The extreme hot weather is not for me.

IV -ROFL. The part we're describing isn't the fun part. You go skiing for the fun part and just assume the injuries aren't going to happen ;-)

Snowhare - it is funny now. It certainly wasn't when I saw my chest heading towards that broken off branch with no time to avoid it.

oops, I need to find the blob of grape jelly that just fell off my PB&J sammich. It's either on me, in the chair, or on the floor somewhee.

Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

it was in the chair, but now it's in my tummy.

Snow,

I thought for second that you were going to say "kind of like sex".

10:23 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

ehyou and IV - that's me you're describing. Ever since spending a year in Pittsburgh, I've put Southern summers at the bottom of my list of favorite seasons. Cold weather (at least above zero) doesn't bother me at all. I absolutely abhor yard work unless it's below 40, and then I only hate it.

10:26 AM
Blogger IV said...

Another thing I dislike about hot weather, no Auburn football.

I love snow and I hope we see a good dose of it this winter....just not ice.

Tearing down a beyond grade, unrated bowl full of fresh powder is pretty close to sex, yes. So is surfing a wave that is triple overhead and closing out fast. Similar chemical response, especially if it's one of your passions.

Okay, back to Auburn football. Has anyone decided to change their prediction on the number of wins we will have this season? Before the seasons started, I said 7 for sure, maybe 8. I am ready to say 8 maybe 9 or 10. It just depends on our injury luck continuing. I sure hope that we will keep the o line and the entire defense uninjured for the rest of the year.

Snow, sex and football, that's why I love this blog. Anything goes.

IV- I say 9 now, up from 7-8.

Eric Smith has been a real big surprise to me. He is playing a vital unsung role in our offense. After he got in trouble for hitting the guy, I said oh well, he is not going to contribute this season and he might be gone from the team. Boy, was I wrong. I like the way this team has responded to the discipline that has been handed out by our coaches.

10:51 AM
Blogger Scott M. Brannan said...

i agree Eric Smith has been a pleasant surprise.

Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

IV - I'm certain of 7. Anything else will be gravy. I won't be surprised if we win them all, but I will keep my expectations at 7 to lessen the severity of heart-wrenching disappointment should we not go undefeated.

10:54 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

indeed, Eris Smith has looked REALLy good. He's been an extremely valuable component of our offense.

Gravy, now there is a subject we have not covered here. I love me some red eye gravy, biscuits and country ham.

That's what I am going to do after we beat the hogs, I am going to the Cracker Barrel for breakfast Sunday morning and have some of their country ham. It is pretty darn good at the Cracker Barrel.

Of course, Darvin Adams has been a nice surprise also. On defense, I believe that Adam Herring has done well considering his lack of practice time and what he has picked up in a short period of time. I think that the bull has been the biggest disappointment overall.

You know what a big surprise has been for me this year? Chris Todd's pocket awareness. He has been able to evade the rush time and time again in ways that Cox and even Campbell couldn't. He has looked like Tom Brady back there.

Of course, he was cutting it close a few times during the UT game and getting decked. I think that is part of the reason we went conservative later on in the game. But he has definitely been the master of getting the couple of inches he needed to make a throw with the defense bearing down on him.

My list of good "surprises" in no particular order are:

Todd
Adams
Smith

List of not-so-good "surprises" with their play so far are:

Benton (thought we would see him more)
Coleman
Freeman
Carter

Todd's performance is not a surprise to me at all.
Todd's arm remaining attached has been a big and most welcome surprise. I thought for sure it would have gotten messed up again by now.

my biggest disappointment is the defense overall. I knew our LB's were thin, but they worry me the most

11:55 AM

So far I am not overly concerned about the defense. We have played a lot of players and that has to hurt continuity.

Blogger digger4au said...

One of the best things to me is the lack of serious injuries. If we keep it up we have a chance to win any game we play, not to say we will because other ulgies can happen. It has just been fun watching this team play.
