BLAWGIN' FER YER NAWGIN: Gene Chizik speaks

Hey everyone. Let's boogie.

  • He arrived at 11:34. Four minutes late.

  • On being good in the zone de red: ``Down there, we have executed well. Gus does a great job. We have been productive when we get down there. Hopefully we'll have another great plan. It'll be more difficult this week than most weeks to get it in the end zone."

  • On last year's film: ``You want to look at it and see what went on. Uh, 36-0 was the final result. There were opportunities in the game that were missed. That's pretty much what you see. Alabama did a great job. Both teams were physical. When you get in these rivalries, the physical nature of the game has to be on both sides of the ball. Alabama's not going to try to trick anybody. They're going to do what they do -- and try to be more physical."

  • This year's matchup: ``We've had our moments when we played physical football. We've had times when we didn't."

  • On players talking about 2008's game: ``We're not living in the past. This is a new time, a different year. This game won't be any different in terms of the fact that we have to do what we do better than what they do. Last year's game? We've moved on."

  • On if he's worried about players dwelling on the 2008 game: "I didn't worry about the players when they were asked (early in the season) if things were going south because of what happened last year."

  • What's at stake for Auburn?: ``Anytime you're playing a rivalry game, it has th epotential to have a bearing on recruiting. We're trying to prepare ourselves for a better bowl game. There's a lot to play for. This game is not an obligation; it's a privilege ... to play in. Somebody's going to do something, it'll go down in the record books and will never be forgotten. Happens every year."

  • On the crispness of Auburn's offense: ``We feel like we need a fast start. The crispness of our offense potentially plays a role in that. We know we need to start fast."

  • On Ben Tate saying he's the state's best back: ``I'm sure that it was very innocent. I wasn't there. I didn't hear it. Ben is a confident guy. He's also very complimentary of others. He was very complimentary of Mark as well. People can make that into what they want. Do I want all of our players to have confidence? Absolutely."

  • Does Alabama have a championship team?: ``They have players. They're one of the teams that's a viable option to play in that game. I haven't seen everybody else out there. I don't know. I don't know who to compare them to."

  • On Antonio Coleman: ``You've seen a better player over the last three weeks to a month. He was basically playing with one hand. For a defensive linemen, that's a tough situation. Never complained. Just worked hard. He's come along and improved every week. He's overcome a lot of things this year, injury-wise, to contribute to our team."

  • That's a wrap.

Jay G. what is Josh Moon back ground is he a bama grad. or just a bandwagoner. My bro.-in-law (who is a bama guy) and I want to know. Is he even from the south? We both are saying he is not from alabama.

The question, FSJ, is will you have the courage to show up here Friday evening?

3:57 PM
Blogger Norm said...

Umm, I wouldn't be so sure about that Bammer. Why don't you give us a chance to find out?

3:57 PM
Blogger Norm said...

Comin' in here and messing up a perfectly nice and respectable place like we have. Despicable.

Bro--

I'll be here Friday evening for a little bit. We are planning on going out in Auburn Friday night.

I'll either eat a heaping pile of crow or will be the happiest bammer you've ever seen.

I look forward to the latter...

Yet another reason he deserves nothing more than our scorn.

I look forward to his car breaking down on the side of the road in the vicinity of Clanton.

4:03 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

If we truly play our best game like you think we will, I think you'll be looking at a closer score than 28-17.

Or a higher point total from us anyway.

Outside of State a few weeks ago, who has Bama really just ripped apart in the last month or two (not counting UTC)?

4:04 PM
Blogger Quitstina said...

On the way to the game, right Norm?

4:04 PM
Blogger Norm said...

Of course, Zookeeper. What better way for it to happen?

Oh, if he's lucky enough to get the car fixed in time to still make it to the game, I hope he gets two flat tires as he's trying to merge back onto the interstate.

4:07 PM
Blogger Quitstina said...

Just wanted to be clear.

4:09 PM
Blogger FSJ said...

Nothing...I repeat NOTHING will keep me from Auburn this Friday.

4:10 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

What, FSJ, I didn't catch that?

4:12 PM
Blogger Norm said...

That almost sounds like a challenge.

4:13 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

The gauntlet has been laid down.

4:15 PM
Blogger FSJ said...

E-Bro...all I know is this...We've won every game the last two months. Most by double digits.

Outside of UT we have pretty much imposed our will on teams in the fourth quarter all year.

Considering Auburn's struggles in the fourth quarter..I expect us to tack on an extra touchdown to make the score 28-17.

4:15 PM
Blogger Harrison said...

fsj- you can hang out with my bama fan dad at his house in Auburn and that way you losers can stay outta our way

4:18 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

Faker...how many teams that y'all have faced have played their best game? Tennessee? And they probably should have won?

I'm not sure if we'll play our best game, but if we do, as you think we will, I can't see us losing by 11. Maybe still losing, but not by 11.

4:21 PM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

I heard all roads out of RC will be closed friday morning.

4:23 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

I know JayG pointed out the quarter by quarter scoring statistics and startled everybody, but what do those look like if you take out the Ball St and Furman stats when they put up a bunch of late points against our scout teamers and walk-ons?

4:24 PM
Blogger IV said...

I hate UAT, I hate UAB, I hate UAH, I hate, hate, hate all things Bammer. WAR EAGLE!! GO TIGERS!! BEAT BAMA!!

4:24 PM
Blogger FSJ said...

E-Bro...the difference is that we will play our best game too..

And our defense is as good or better than any team you've faced this year, IMO.

4:25 PM
Blogger IV said...

Shut Up Faker, I hate you.

4:26 PM
Blogger Harrison said...

your defense is full of idiots

4:27 PM
Blogger Harrison said...

bama fans are so irrational, you know?

4:28 PM
Blogger IV said...

Hate is a many splendored thing. I hate UAT and FSJ and all like him.

4:28 PM
Blogger FSJ said...

They may be idiots but they are good at defending passes and tackling...

4:28 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

FSJ...what other defenses that we've played are as good as Bama's? I'll go ahead and assume y'all are the best we've played. Maybe we're the bset offense y'all have faced as well.

4:28 PM
Blogger IV said...

Hate and marriage, hate and marriage go together like a good miscarriage, which UAT is.

4:30 PM
Blogger FSJ said...

That's to be seen E-Bro...The closest defense y'all have played to ours was probably LSU's...

4:30 PM
Blogger FSJ said...

I would say that Arkansas' offense is in the same stratosphere as yours..

We defended them pretty well.

4:32 PM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

FSJ, p.s. your [bleep] is in the sink.

4:32 PM
Blogger FSJ said...

Really enjoying the hate..

Hope nobody is taking it personal.

I think we have the best team and are on a mission. That's all.

4:34 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

Athletically speaking and talent-wise, certainly LSU, but I think before injuries (and suspensions) began to decimate them in recent weeks, UT was playing the best defense in the SEC outside of Florida and Bama.

4:34 PM
Blogger FSJ said...

I agree about UT.

I think from the fourth quarter of the Auburn game until the suspensions that UT was playing very well.

I think i said a few weeks ago that I am glad we didn't have to play them again. The job that Kiffin has done with Crompton is amazing.

4:36 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

It didn't hurt that Arkansas is a one dimensional offense (except when they play us or Florida anyway). Allowed y'all to tee off on Mallet.

We're more balanced.

4:36 PM
Blogger FSJ said...

Every offense is one dimensional against us.

4:38 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

Agreed on Crompton. I watched UT in person on Saturday and it was just so surreal to see the transformation live. He still makes the odd throw here and there that makes you scratch your head, but compared to where he was last year and the first four and a half games this year...amazing.

He always had an NFL calibre arm, and now he's learning how to use it.

4:40 PM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

well, your roads are closed and p.s. your [bleep] is in the sink, so stfu, bammer.

WDE. HATE....

4:40 PM
Blogger FSJ said...

You probably know this better than I do but I read somewhere that Kiffin has essentially cut the area of the field that he is reading in half which has helped his decision making...I have noticed they are rolling him alot more and using alot of tailback/WR screens.

4:41 PM
Blogger IV said...

Snacks,

You are my man. Hate, hate, hate.

4:42 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

Trust me, Faker, Arkansas has been one dimensional on offense most of the season.

They have failed to break 100 yards rushing against five SEC teams this year.

4:42 PM
Blogger FSJ said...

What I am saying by my comment above is that we've not given up a 100 yards to any back in two years.

4:43 PM
Blogger IV said...

Who cares what Bama can or can't do. Just bring it on, we will deal with it.

4:44 PM
Blogger FSJ said...

We plan on being there IV...

4:44 PM
Blogger IV said...

Could be a mistake Faker.

4:45 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

FSJ...that is definitely part of what Kiffin's doing. He did that a lot early in the year as well, but with less success.

He still does that, but as Crompton's confidence has grown, I think Kiffin has begun to open it up a a lot more.

4:46 PM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

by "we," you mean someone, but not you, right?

4:46 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

Faker...so you're saying Bama's due to give up a 100 yard rusher?

I read you...

4:47 PM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

wait, don't answer that. shut up bammer

4:48 PM
Blogger FSJ said...

Lol E-Bro...hope not.

4:48 PM
Blogger FSJ said...

Ok..Hotties..I'm out for a bit.

May hate consume you in the meantime.

4:55 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

HATE!!

4:58 PM
Blogger Jet said...

Boy, I'm glad he's gone.

5:00 PM
Blogger Harrison said...

I bet he's still hanging around to see what we say about him. Bama fans are weasles that wat

5:01 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

Shhhh...

And be still. His visual acuity is based on movement.

5:05 PM
Blogger Norm said...

He probably is snooping on us. They're definitely a sneaky lot.

5:05 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

We need to get FAH on the Dexter McCluster workout plan. They're both about the same size. They're both fast as hell, but McCluster can take some contact without hurting himself.

5:11 PM
Blogger Zimas4Ziemba said...

If I were Chizik, I would have been a hell of a lot later than 4 minutes. I would want to spend as little time as possible with the state of Alabama journalism hacks.
