Etheridge out of the hospital

Hey everyone. I was out and about in The Gump and not able to create a new blog post until now.

We have been discussing this in the earlier thread, but I figured this deserved its own thread.

Safety Zac Etheridge, who was knocked out of the Ole Miss game, has been released from a Birmingham-area hospital. He collided with teammate Antonio Coleman while attempting to make a tackle during the first quarter Saturday.

Etheridge was taken to East Alabama Medical Center and later was moved to Birmingham for closer observation.

``We're happy to report that Zac has been released from the hospital and
our medical staff is optimistic he will make a full recovery," coach Gene Chizik said.

UPDATE: Neal McCready, my friend who covers Ole Miss for Rivals.com, spoke with UM tailback Rodney Scott today. The freshman was lauded by Chizik and the medical staff for remaining still while pinned under Etheridge.

``I wanted to see if he was going to get up first. He was just laying there still," Scott said. ``I looked at him and he wasn't moving or anything. That's when all the trainers came and they told me, 'Don't move because it could affect him more.' I was trying to stay real still. … For a couple of seconds, I guess he was knocked out unconscious. After awhile, after all the trainers got around, he finally said something. It was a bad feeling, but at the same time, I was wondering if he was all right or whatever."

  1. That's great news!! We wish him a speedy recovery!

  2. Wow...that was actually a first substance! Now we need a "Z" line to finish out the year!

    ReplyDelete
  3. Good news on Zach though!!

    ReplyDelete
  4. Great news JGT we hope for a full recovery so he can live a normal life. Football is but a footnote right now.

  5. Definitely good news tonight.

We saw "Paranormal Activity" tonight, the alleged scary movie.

Not really scary. Thank goodness the lead actress was exceptionally hot.

  6. Hey Little Buddy

    ReplyDelete
  7. When do you leave for Disney?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Jay how do you feel about the next three games

    ReplyDelete
  9. I had already heard Paranormal wasn't good unless you are into the Blair Witch

    ReplyDelete
  10. I was a Blair Witch guy, for sure, but PA took several implausible twists. That compromised what I thought was an excellent filmmaking/storytelling approach.

The girl in the movie is, to me, unspeakably hot. So that was good.

We double-dipped afterward and watched "This Is It," which was better.

  12. I've been a Falcons fan for a long while. They haven't been on MNF often. I am stoked.

  13. Same here, since Jamal Anderson back in the day when I lived in Atlanta

    ReplyDelete
  14. Evening all. Go Birds! Great news about Etheridge.

When I was in Atlanta with work, they brought in the Falcon cheerleaders during our kickoff. The taught us the dirty bird. Made the Execs do it on stage. They were pretty.

And I am very happy to hear about Zach.

And, I also think that Meyer and the SEC are puds for only doing a half on Spikes. The SEC could have at least done the 2nd half.

    Just my opinion.

  18. Wonderful news on Zac.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Nice to find out he was all right and not whatever.

    ReplyDelete
  20. As a matter of course, hot lead actresses raise the tolerance level of mediocre movies.

    Just sayin'.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Everyone is in so much better a mood when we win. I like it.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I think Meyer suspending Spikes for a half a game was worse than not suspending him at all. Just my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I hope JGT drops Iowa and puts a couple of teams they've beaten ahead of them. They deserve it.

    ReplyDelete
  24. cincy...
That's a cupcake penalty, especially against Vandy. It would have been a punishment if they had a ranked opponent next.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Thanks for posting ehyou, I was afraid I had killed the thread. :) Cupcakes and ice cream...

    ReplyDelete
  26. Anonymous8:44 PM

I can't believe the SEC supported that weak penalty.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I don't think I've ever wanted to slap someone as much as I would like to slap Paul Finebaum. And I am not usually a very violent person. I really am surprised he hasn't been decked a few times.

    ReplyDelete
  28. cicny,

    What did Paul do today?

    I only listened to Dye.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Oh, I didn't listen to him - I really try not to do that. I just read his column from last Tuesday. His motives are so transparent, I don't know why I let him get under my skin, that is just what he is trying to do. Most of the time I can laugh at him, but for some reason this time he really bugged me.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Great news on Zac. Thanks for the update, JGT.

Regarding the Spikes brouhaha, it would be funny if the entire Vandy offense came out wearing visors on their helmets.

It would be funnier still if the Vandy band all wore goggles.

    ReplyDelete
  33. The further along F-Bomb goes it reminds of a saying that I believe he's embraced -- emotionally, if not literally.

"If you're gonna be in a whorehouse, be the best whore in the house."

    ReplyDelete
  34. jet...
Are you saying that F-Bomb = Melvin P Thorpe from The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas? If you're not, then I am.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Ehyou ...

    That's not a bad equivalency.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I bet F-Bomb and his staff do a song & dance number at every break. That'd be great.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I hope after the Bama game that Auburn is the A&M team going out for a good time.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Don't forget people:

Jet and I predicted a win last weekend. But then again, I predict a win every weekend....so congrats to jet.

I'll get ahead of the curve and predict a win next weekend. Woot!

    ReplyDelete
  39. You guys reminded me of my freshman year at Auburn. Apparently Auburn's theater group was putting on The Biggest Little Whore House in Texas. So there was a HUGE sign hanging over by the Hill that said "Whorehouse Coming Soon" or something to that effect. I wanted to steal it so bad.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I could soooo be the Sheriff in that production. A bad-ass power monger is right in my wheelhouse.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Well crap. The tipped pass and interception in the red zone ended up being the difference in the game. Just that much.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I'm a Bucs fan, so I've had plenty of his nutty rants over the years. I love the guy, just hated the way he handled personnel.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I feel like cussing, but I will refrain.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Like I said, tipped pass and interception in red zone was the difference.

  56. AU1N04 said...And, I also think that Meyer and the SEC are puds for only doing a half on Spikes. The SEC could have at least done the 2nd half.

Don't know what a "pud" is, but I agree, AU1N04. I was watching PTI yesterday and Wilbon said things like that have been happening since football began, but now that we have so many cameras on the action, we see it. SO? I think now that we do have evidence, it's time to punish these thugs. 1/2 game - esp. against Vandy - is a freakin' joke. Then Meyer saying he's a good kid and this was totally out of character. WTHever!!

  58. Morning everyone!

How can anyone not like The Boss?

    ReplyDelete
  59. Good Morning All.

    Good news about Zac.

My brother put out a good read on the our blog:

    True Blue

    ReplyDelete
  60. Just because biting hitting scratching and eye gouging "have been going on since football began" doesn't make that an acceptable behavior. And because he's stupid enough to get caught (which is truly his problem) he deserves a punishment for it. A half game suspension, against any team is not a punishment befitting the incident.

    ReplyDelete
  61. mrtommyd, I agree 100%!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Eddie, very good read!

    ReplyDelete
  63. I think if USC is able to finish strong they should be in the title game... they lost to some of the best unranked teams in the country...

    ReplyDelete
  64. Washington is one of the best unranked teams in the country?

    ReplyDelete
  65. You know the only other thing that I can think about that deal with B. Spikes, is if something like that had been done by a UGA defensive player to media darling and his royal hiney Tebow. You think there would have a been an outcry for an immediate suspension, be removed from the team, and sent to outer Mongolia? I'm sure that kid would have to live with that for his entire football career, not unlike Chaz had to deal with the @#$%ing ESPN beatdown.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Luv didn't you know that the PAC-10 is the best conference in the nation and has been for the past 50 years? Just ask 'em, they'll let you know. It's funny (and then again not) USC is wanting that entitlement boost that Notre Dame usually gets, just because they're, you know, SC.

    ReplyDelete
  67. mrtommyd, funny you should mention that about Chaz Ramsey. I don't know how many chop block penalties have been called since that game and noone every says a thing about it...

    ReplyDelete
  68. And its not an agenda that they are carrying right Luv?!? Yeah, I can't tell you how torqued I get when a person that gets called for a chopblock now doesn't get raked across the coals because they've ended someone's football career (I believe Mr Dorsey is doing just fime btw), or being called out for the rest of a game by doing such a dispicable, cheap, shot. I mean it's gotta by 700 times worse than eye gouging.

Looks like I'm feeling a little wordy today.

    ReplyDelete
  69. From Ebay:

For sale, 100 black helmets, never used to hit anyone, need visors. Contact M. Richt for best offer.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Mornin', Hotties!

RE Zac, please stand and sing:

O Happy Day! (O happy day!)

Along with "knowledge is power," "stand and sing" is my favorite phrase.

    ReplyDelete
  71. WERK - I have absolutely no idea.

    Morning Hotties!

    ReplyDelete
  72. Ephemeral, two of my favorite sayings came from two future governors:

    "Ain't got time to bleed"

"If it bleeds, we can kill it"

    ReplyDelete
  73. mrtommyd, how about the rest of the season, not just the rest of the game. I wanted to gouge out Gary Danielson's and Vern's eyes every time they brought it up.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Those are good ones, THT.

Eddie, that is a good read. True blue, indeed.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I'm with ya Luv. Couldn't believe that it lasted more than one game. Obviously Chaz must have been something like a serial murderer with the lambasting he got. Of course Spikes is at UF and you know, that happens every game, in every pile, so no need to go overboard or anything.

And if you could see me now I'd be giving you that incredulous look.

    ReplyDelete
  76. While everyone gets out of joint about the chop block, remember that the ruling body in college says it is a 15 yard penalty. So face masking, but you never hear many scream about that. You could break a neck grabbing the face mask. Horse collaring was not a penalty until last year, I think. Look how many athletes were severally injured by that move. Intentionally roughing the punter is a 15 yard penalty also. If they wanted to, the NCAA could make a rule that ejects you from the game for a chop block. Picking on certain players for that block over and over again is classless.

Do I like the chop block, NO. But it is something that is regularly done, maybe not on purpose, and probably not taught by coaches, and everyone knows it. It happens. The only reason Ramsey was singled out was that his was against a high profile player.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Finally, look at how today's plaeyrs tackle, especially in the open field. Most all of them go for the legs and specifically the kneee. That is the most vulnerable joint you have. If I hit it you will go down. No that is taught by coaches. Where is the outrage over that? I know the difference is that the runner usually sees that one coming and the lineman doesn't, but the results can be the same.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I will let someone else rant now. Time for work.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Like I've said 1001 times, the human body was not made for football. It is such a violent sport and if I didn't love it so much, I'd boycott it!

    ReplyDelete
  80. Surely, y'all don't want me to do this on my own?

    ReplyDelete
  81. Nice work, Tar Heel.

    ReplyDelete
  82. We get eye pokes, the next thing you know there will be punches with brass knux while the coach distracts the ref.

    ReplyDelete
  83. E-Bro gets the credit for the "True Blue" article. He is good with the words.

WTC- Good rant. I personally wish tacklers (especially our team) would try and wrap up and stick them on the numbers instead of diving for knees and feet all the time :).

    ReplyDelete
  84. and then "Hacksaw" Spikes will enter the ring, oops, take the field with a 2x4.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Morning, HOTTIES.

We'll crank it up today around 11:30 with some BLAWGIN' FER YER NOGGIN'.

    I know you're excited.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I think the facemask penalty should go back to a judgement call for a 5 or a 15.

I also think Auburn players should wrap up and tackle better, but I think other teams should have lousy fundamentals.

    ReplyDelete
  87. WERK, I agree on the facemask penalty.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Blawgin Fer Yer Noogin will consist of these statements:

McCalebb and Etheridge are Day to Day.

We executed better last week, but still need to do a better job.

Furman is a good team, we will need to come out focused and if we execute, we will have a chance to play a bunch of guys and get some good experience heading into the last two games.

Let me know if I missed something.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Eddie,

You forgot "we'll keep choppin wood".

    "This is a tough conference."

    "Auburn fans are the greatest."

  90. Thankyou RK- I wonder if he wanted to hand out 79,000 game balls last weekend? :)

    ReplyDelete
  91. Eddie, you just ruined my noggin' bloggin. i hope you're happy with yourself!

    ReplyDelete
  92. I'm nevr happy with myself Scottie. I've learned that I can always execute things better in life. I will continue to keep chopin wood while my job status is day by day facing this tough opponent called the economy, but I get home at night to know that my daughters are my greatest fans and that helps me keep focus to keep moving forward.

    ReplyDelete
  93. That was impressive Eddie. You're just a straight shooter with upper management written all over you.

    ReplyDelete
  94. RK- If I could just figure out those covers to those darn TPS reports.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Eddie,
E-Bro did a great job on that article. I think we were all a little bit or in some cases a lot guilty of bashing the caoches and some team members. We should learn a lesson from this but I bet we don't.

    ReplyDelete
  96. The Dye quote from the 1989 Iron Bowl post game that E-bro used is one of my favorites.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Digger- Most fans of this sport are emotional. When it's good it's good, but when it's bad, it's plain out ugly. It comes and goes. Personally I know that I, like most, take it hardest closest to when it happens and cool down relatively quickly. Passion is what makes this sport so fun but it can also be bad if directed in the wrong way, which happens. Look at Georgia these days, they are several people ready to run Mark Richt right now.

  99. I think Ohio state should be in the national title view... Purdue should have been ranked the week they beat Ohio State so that it would not hurt OS image and BCS rankings.

Shame on the pollsters. OS should be in the top 10... since.. since... well since they are The Ohio State University...

    Another GREAT 2 loss team.

  101. RK- I went last week and I actually took my ear buds in and listened to my iphone while I got my teeth cleaned. I avoided the conversations that mean nothing and it worked out great for both parties.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Never understood why UA wanted to sue Daniel Moore.

    Made them look petty.

  104. Eddie-

Saying that most fans of CFB are emotional is like saying that Lou Holtz has a slight lisp!

Check out the following post (from a Nebraska blog), where you can see how a loss by YOUR team can cause severe emotional distress...Reminds me of how I felt last season and after the 3 straight losses to Arky, KY, and LSU.

Do You Feel Like You're Being Punished?

  105. There's an article on Yahoo sports by Dan Wetzel on the whole Spikes thing. I couldn't get it to link here, but it's a good read.

  117. Rodney Scott to Brandon Spikes.

A total difference in those two players in how they acted this past weekend and what most fans thanks of them.

BTW, just downloaded and started using firefox....NICE! I like it already.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Yes, Rodney Scott was perfectly still long before the trainers got out there. Given the typical football emotions and the instinct to just get up off the ground after being tackled, Mr Scott's perception of the situation and actions are admirable. I know nothing else about him, but I would be shocked if he isn't successful in whatever profession he pursues.
