All we have are the embers

Hey everyone. Our 100-minute Video Campfire® has ended. I'd say it was a success.

We had approximately 500 unique viewers. We averaged 83 viewers at any given moment. I was aiming for 40 viewers total, so I'd say that qualifies as a success.

What we need to do now is make suggestions on how to improve it.

Here are some things we discussed in the Campfire. Add more in the comments section and I'll post 'em here.

*Stop the refresh on the main blog because it messes up the stream.
*Images/video/links can't be posted in the chat.
*(Some) questions gathered before the VC begins.
*"Tape" the segment for later playback (**I have this one solved already.**)

IN OTHER NEWS:
Here's what the Outback Bowl had to say via Twitter -- ``ESPN announced that the Outback Bowl overtime thriller with the Wildcats and Tigers posted a 4.06 national television rating. This is a 32% increase from last year's game. Thanks for watching this instant classic!"

I don't know gang, but I'm not so sure about accepting retroactive championship titles. Just sayin. Shared champinoships, sure, no problem with that, but to think 3-12 years after the fact, not sure if that holds water.

One difference I see is that I rarely hear Alabama grads or fans speak of Tuscaloosa as a special or wonderful place, as I hear Auburn people do about Auburn. I just hear how much Bammer folks love their Crimpson Tide.

I'm sure you did FSJ, and I respect how you conduct yourself on the HABOTN. I have several UA grad friends who will also tell you they had a great time at UA (never heard one of them wax poetic about it like AU folks do about Auburn, though). However, the one who spent significant time visiting us at AU will tell you that AU was much friendlier and more welcoming than his own school. In fact, a couple of times he even said maybe he should have gone to AU.

You bring up an interesting point Scott....

Auburn grads to wax poetic about Auburn. I think it has something to do with a variety of factors..

1) Auburn, while a growing area still has a small town charm to it.

2) There's something about being the proverbial underdog that brings people together.

3) There is something to the Auburn "family" thing. I think it may have something to do with what Eddie mentioned above...There are more bammers so there will be more bad elements on my side.

2:07 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

Here's what my Texas friend and his fellow coaches were thinking about the game, from a defensive standpoint (he's a defensive coach).

The only thing that stands out to them about Bama are the running backs. Offensive line, the center looks really good but the rest are just solid, average guys. Wide Receives and Quarterback, says they've seen at least four better of each this year.

2:07 PM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

Boom hasn't slept in a month. Texas's D will be ready for anything, above or below average... Hook Em!

2:09 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

My amigo can't really speak for the offensive side of things, but he thinks Texas's pace will be something that Bama isn't use to and that Texas's array of quarterback and receivers is far better than anything Bama has seen all year.

I agreed with him on the latter point, but not the former one. Texas doesn't really run their pace offense anymore than Auburn does. Like Auburn, their pace offense is situational. They do run a no-huddle, but they're not always pushing the pace.

Usually not, in fact, though I imagine they might look to do that more tomorrow.

Special teams, I give a slight advantage to Texas. Both teams have big time returners (three different Texas players have returned kick-offs or punts for a touchdown), but something that gets overlooked about Texas is that over the span of this decade, they are only behind Va. Tech I think in special teams touchdowns.

They're punter is a bit of a slappo at times, though, and if he's a slappo tomorrow against Arenas...rut row.

Michael, was that the one where she flogged the sheep or the one where she had her sheep flogged?

That was part 1 and 2 of the same video, Scott C. Too much video to fit on one cassette tape.

I've heard Charles make the Shula quote before. It's pretty funny, but I gotta call him on one thing. He wasn't even a year old when JFK died. I guess he could have been really sad on that day because he had a dirty diaper or something.

They say that video caused Idaho to ban the sale of apple sauce in the early 90's. It was quite unsettling.

Part 3 was in 3D, wasn't it?

I didn't like the part where Charles said he would be pulling for Bama tomorrow, though he did pick Texas to win.

He also acted like Bama is gonna run roughshod over Auburn for the forseeable future with Saban as coach.

I love ya Chuck, but come on. That's turrible.

Part 3 was in "Smell-o-vision". They say it effectively killed that format.

Barkley wants to be guvnah... he'll say what he has to say to get the bammer vote.

E-Bro, he's been saying that about Saban for a while. I like Charles, too, but that annoys me. He was saying it before the IB and was pretty close to being wrong. I do like that he pretty much says what he wants. He's entertaining.

Alright, here's something I've been thinking about for a while. It may have been covered on here before, but I don't remember seeing it. If you are a Bammer and you had an "S The Coach" sticker on your pick-up truck that you bought when Shula was still the coach, were you allowed to keep the same one for Saban, or did you have to buy a new one? If Shula was "The Coach" doesn't that mean the new one should read "A Coach" or "Another Coach"?

I'm talking about them buying a new sticker, not a new pick-up truck, btw. Also, how about if you bought those stickers for Price, Interim, Shula, and Saban and lined them up in order on your bumper?

It is unacceptable for ANY Auburn fan to pull for spUAT.

That is like the jews pulling for the nazis.

My apologies if I have offended any nazis.
