All we have are the embers
Hey everyone. Our 100-minute Video Campfire® has ended. I'd say it was a success.
We had approximately 500 unique viewers. We averaged 83 viewers at any given moment. I was aiming for 40 viewers total, so I'd say that qualifies as a success.
What we need to do now is make suggestions on how to improve it.
Here are some things we discussed in the Campfire. Add more in the comments section and I'll post 'em here.
*Stop the refresh on the main blog because it messes up the stream.
*Images/video/links can't be posted in the chat.
*(Some) questions gathered before the VC begins.
*"Tape" the segment for later playback (**I have this one solved already.**)
IN OTHER NEWS: Here's what the Outback Bowl had to say via Twitter -- ``ESPN announced that the Outback Bowl overtime thriller with the Wildcats and Tigers posted a 4.06 national television rating. This is a 32% increase from last year's game. Thanks for watching this instant classic!"

problem with the flip is that everyone will miss the great article I just posted...
i can be angry. you need an angry guy? i can be that guy.
i will go back one page to read the wonderful article that Eddie just posted. i encourage others to do the same.
FSJ...you're either with us, or you against us. Hehehehehe.
Don't mess with Texas.
I read it Eddie..
LOL
Eddie...Jet posted it a few days ago.
I don't know gang, but I'm not so sure about accepting retroactive championship titles. Just sayin. Shared champinoships, sure, no problem with that, but to think 3-12 years after the fact, not sure if that holds water.
One difference I see is that I rarely hear Alabama grads or fans speak of Tuscaloosa as a special or wonderful place, as I hear Auburn people do about Auburn. I just hear how much Bammer folks love their Crimpson Tide.
E-Bro..
I'm again' ya...
Ha!
Bevo is going to be a great brisket.
Well damn...it still deserves reading, even if Jet beat me to the punch.
MTD makes a compelling point.
Scott,
I had a great time at UA.
I know many grads that met their spouse there.
Lots of fond memories.
Foiled again by FSJ. Where is Wake with visual proof of Faker's erstwhile allegiance when I need it most?
Hey FSJ, didn't mean to start a flame war here with you. Just venting about what I believe is wrong with most Bama fans.
The bama grads that I know really love the place just as Auburn grads love Auburn. I just don't think that argument holds water.
You damn right I am taking it personal. Gaines is my son and he just made a comment that got you in a dither. Now to finish this off once and for all. I think the same thing that Gaines thinks, word for word. I live in Prattville. Go to my e-mail address and let me know if you would like to come and discuss this on a personal level. Otherwise, anything you say will not change my opinion so why don't you just keep it to yourself Bama.
Hey IV, it's cool. No need to start a big war here.
Okie dokie IV...
FSJ, what's on the menu for supper/game tomorrow nite? yall having a party at your crib?
Hook 'Em Horns!
By the way, anyone know how Bevo got his name?
Gaines,
I wasn't mad. Don't know why your Dad is in an uproar.
It's cool. I thought we could disagree here.
scottie,
BRISKET...of course.
Keep it up FSJ. Just keep it up.
IV can be a little overprotective of his son, right IV?!? Don't worry pops, I can hold my own with any Bamar, here or anywhere else, including FSJ!
I'm sure you did FSJ, and I respect how you conduct yourself on the HABOTN. I have several UA grad friends who will also tell you they had a great time at UA (never heard one of them wax poetic about it like AU folks do about Auburn, though). However, the one who spent significant time visiting us at AU will tell you that AU was much friendlier and more welcoming than his own school. In fact, a couple of times he even said maybe he should have gone to AU.
Who taught you how to do that Gainser?
i know i'm going to end up watching the game but i really don't want to. i think bama rolls and it is going to kill me having to watch that.
I feel the same way, Scottie B.
All I can see when I read IV is:
Yosemite Sam
I am out for my walk. God I hope I don't see another one of those idiotic stupid untruthful 12 MNC signs or shirts while I am gone. I might puke. WAR EAGLE, HOOK THE HELL OUT OF THEM HORNS.
Alright guys, my work here is done for now. Spread some Auburn love and some Bama hate, and now I have to get on a conference call myself. And no, it won't be with Norm! Y'all have a great Mark Ingram day over there in Alabama. I'll celebrate the Yellowjacket Slaughter day here in Atlanta!
Have faith guys. I got a buddy who works for the team (Texas that is). He's confident.
Not guaranteeing victory or anything, but says they'v got a great shot against Bama.
Eddie, i about spewed Dr. Pepper all over my monitor when i clicked that picture. lmao.
You bring up an interesting point Scott....
Auburn grads to wax poetic about Auburn. I think it has something to do with a variety of factors..
1) Auburn, while a growing area still has a small town charm to it.
2) There's something about being the proverbial underdog that brings people together.
3) There is something to the Auburn "family" thing. I think it may have something to do with what Eddie mentioned above...There are more bammers so there will be more bad elements on my side.
Back then they were awarded before the bowls...unless they were awarded years after the bowls.
E-Bro,
Texas should be confident.
They have a good shot..just like we do.
so, how bout that GMAC bowl?
I noticed that we have a National Championship in 1913 too.
AUsome.
It was awarded by Billingsley, the same fine retroactive poll that furninshed spUAT with many of their titles.
Proverbial underdog?
I like football and all, but I mainly hitch my wagon to the men's and women's swimming and diving programs.
Drink up our dominance, Bammer. Drink it up.
Google > bing, btw.
Auburn....a Swimming School with a football problem.
Great lunch with a fine young man.
I enjoyed the short time we had at lunch today FSJ, hope we have another opportunity to do it again.
I have had the above conversations so many times over the past 25 years that I am going to duck out on this one.
Here's what my Texas friend and his fellow coaches were thinking about the game, from a defensive standpoint (he's a defensive coach).
The only thing that stands out to them about Bama are the running backs. Offensive line, the center looks really good but the rest are just solid, average guys. Wide Receives and Quarterback, says they've seen at least four better of each this year.
Boom hasn't slept in a month. Texas's D will be ready for anything, above or below average... Hook Em!
My amigo can't really speak for the offensive side of things, but he thinks Texas's pace will be something that Bama isn't use to and that Texas's array of quarterback and receivers is far better than anything Bama has seen all year.
I agreed with him on the latter point, but not the former one. Texas doesn't really run their pace offense anymore than Auburn does. Like Auburn, their pace offense is situational. They do run a no-huddle, but they're not always pushing the pace.
Usually not, in fact, though I imagine they might look to do that more tomorrow.
Thanks digger,
I really enjoyed the lunch and conversation too.
BOOM!
PF, how would you relate employees at hotels in relation to sidewalk Bama fans? similar?
Personally there is no way i'm going to pull for an out of conference team against ANY SEC team even Bama in the NC game. I like to think the bammers would show us the same respect:-/. Anyone hearing any rumors on us getting back into the hunt for Seastrunk? Word was we backed off of him awhile back so I was wondering if anyone has heard any diffrent?
scottie,
No comments on the brisket?
Brisket??
You practicing for April??
Special teams, I give a slight advantage to Texas. Both teams have big time returners (three different Texas players have returned kick-offs or punts for a touchdown), but something that gets overlooked about Texas is that over the span of this decade, they are only behind Va. Tech I think in special teams touchdowns.
They're punter is a bit of a slappo at times, though, and if he's a slappo tomorrow against Arenas...rut row.
I'm pretty sure the hoteliers that pissed me off over the last week were all sidewalk bammer fans.
Turfman- Everything is rumor mill at this point as to whether we really backed off on him or not. He is still high on Auburn which would lead one to believe that we did not back off on him, but no one other than the coaches know or is willing to say something concrete.
I am digger..
We need serious help on Brisket....
I picked up two at Johnson's downtown.
Sorry Turfman...I would not blame Alabama fans for pulling against Auburn and hope they won't do the same for me pulling against them.
Either way, I have no regrets pulling for Texas.
Brisket sounds good, but elephant hunting is more enjoyable.
i figured PF. i figured.
and FSJ, why just brisket? you got something against sirlion or a nice flank steak?
Johnsons is a good place to buy meat.
They have a butcher that knows what he is doing.
No...nothing against those scottie...
Just in a BBQ mood.
yall having folk over or just hanging with the family?
also, are you going to live-blog your victory dance (if/when it happens tomorrow nite)?
I had a really good 19 oz bone-in strip the other day.
GMAC Bowl?
All I got to say is go TROY!!
how about you live blog it tonight like all those morons sporting 13championships stickers and calling in to the radio.
Yeah scottie...I'm having some folks over.
If we are lucky enough to win (and I'm scared to death about that) I will Ustream my victory dance...
The Chippewas are gonna destroy Troy.
What raises my hackles more than the claim of 12 NCs?
Telling me that I'm arguing the point out of jealousy.
Grrrrrr.
cool. i may have to get a case of man brew to make it through it.
not a bad idea.
Wait a second, with this article about the guy coming up with the twelve championships, that means before 1983, Alabama was celebrating their 7? So 1982 they had 7, and in '83 they had 12, and no one said, where'd that come from and call 'em on it?
FSJ said "I am digger"
I had no idea you were posting under 2 names here. It was so nice meeting you at the Outback Bowl.
Hotties -
no one cheered louder for Auburn at the OB than Digger (aka FSJ)
LOL THT..
I meant to say.. I am, digger.
mytommy,
exactly!
unbelievable, huh?
I am Sparacus!
add a 't' after the 'r'.
Oops.
free wifi at philly airport not working for 2.0. Next leg of her journey to Frankfort departs in 1hour
Well it was great to see you at the game FSJ/Digger. Umm does this mean you had lunch today with yourself?
dang punctuation marks!..,,,**&!!!!!
Well if that's the case Aubie, I guess we can only blame Bo for giving them such an inferiority complex that the SID dude felt he needed to do something like that
Bo knows BS.
tommy, I think the point was to show that UA football didn't start with Paul Bryant.
BTW, I'm fine with whatever anybody wants to claim....If you want to go by the polls of today (AP, UPI/Coaches Poll- which would be from 1936 on) I am fine with that.....We are going for our 8th which would tie us with Notre Dame for first on the list.
For anyone interested in baseball: Andre Dawson was the only player elected to the Hall of Fame today.
That's surprising...
Who else was up for it?
If bammer were to play taliban I'd root for taliban.
hook'em durga durga horns jihad.
i think most AU folk just want it to be fair (on NC claims).
if Bama wants to include some of those why can't we claim the NY Times in 1983? or how about Golf Digest in 2004? :) i'll take 'em. we've got 3!!!!!!!!!!
j/k. 7 or 8 is still more than 1, 2, or 3. truth is they've won more. and i HATE it.
FSJ - you're wearing on me in a dangerously bad & potentially toxic sort of way. I think I'll knock myself out with a pain pill tomorrow night so I don't accidentally pull for the wrong team.
Don't blame ya Aeronaut...

I've heard it before, but that's freakin funny coming from Aero, who is in the proverbial sh*$.
there is HATE in you THT. i can feel it! don't turn to the dark side!!!!!!
ok, bye.
Jack Morris destroyed the Braves in the World Series did he not?
Hard to believe Robby Alomar didn't make it in.
There's a lot of politikin' that goes into BB HOF voting.
Alomar and Blyleven barely missed the cut. I wonder how many more years Blyleven has on the ballot?
Alomar is the one that I heard of last night that I thought would get in..
He was very good. Like you said...a lot of politics.
FSJ,
I don't think the point of the article was to point out that spUAT football didn't start with bear.
I think the point of the article was to highlight that a crazy lone gunman made up a fairy tale that is now viewed as gospel by every trailer park resident in Alabama.
i think the pain is impairing my hate abilities. But I will not turn to the dark side.
HOOK 'EM HORNS!!!
no offense
I may pull for Bama tomarrow but that wont stop my from putting up my mini me Sabear image>>>>>>>>>>>>
That may have been the point of the article, but my point was that Wayne Atchison was attempting to show that football didn't start at UA in 1958.
That's all I meant.
from that list ... Mattingly not geting in or at least getting more votes surprises me. Alomar spit on people, no doubt costing him votes,
Turfman, I would wager that had you been born in the 50's or 60's vs. the 80's, you would not be pulling for Bama tomorrow.
Just sayin' you didn't have to live through the Bahr's heyday.
I was born in the 1980s.
I'll be pulling for Texas with every fiber.
E-Bro, I'll bet most AU fans are. I'm just saying it's even less likely for those of us who suffered through the Barfield era and the end of the Shug era. I'm not doubting your hate for a second!
An Auburn dude in my office was making the "I pull for the SEC" argument today. He was visibly shaken by the vigor with which I expressed my hatred of Bama.
Oh, I'm not disagreeing with you SC.
I just want you to know that us Generation X'ers are behind you 100% in hating Bama and pulling against them.
ehyou, HATE is best shaken, not stirred. :)
At least, I'm 100% behind what you're saying SC.
You said it Tyler....I mean Scottie.
yup.
i second, third, 4th, whatever the HATE. hook 'em.
I actually pulled for Auburn against Northwestern..
I'm nicer than y'all are.. :-P
Just kidding.
I wonder what the HTAMBOTN sounds like today?
Funny SC.
Texas only claims four national championships, so I don't think things are as bad for them.
Them being the folks from College Station.
kidding about pulling for Au, or about being nicer, or both?
I wondered the same thing, THT.
E-Bro, they calling for any snow in the Noog tomorrow?
Being nicer of course.
I wanted Auburn to win.
well, i think you have been nicer. But it's just part of that evil plan to brainwash us Aubies
FSJ- I haven't been on here much today. Did you ever think our little conversation last night would lead to what I have been reading?
Dude....I'm just going to start drinking when you show up, CH=B...
You seem like a really nice guy FSJ and a reasonable bammer. I only know 1 more like you and I've known him since the 1st grade. Stereotypes are in place for a reason. They are not true for everyone of a praticular origin, but for the most part they ring true. With that said, the stereotype for bammers is not a pretty one and it is not just from the AU fans either.
Hook em horns!
LOL...I like the drinking part. I could use one now.
goat horns?
What can you mix with VERY hot choc?
Bailey's?
I've looked into FSJ's eyes. They're evil. Don't listen to him.
Aero,
Good to see you on here dude. I agree 1000% on your statement. Go Taliban.
Hey look at me, I am the front page quote! Yeehaw! Hook 'em longhorn horns! Or is horns just short for longhorns? Man, I don't know THT.
"i fight goats"?????
nice.
Once there was a midget frog named Harley who had a purple go-cart with green wheels and he kept cups behind the seat.
drinking cups, i hope.
I don't think that's really a front page "quote", Michael. I think it's just a headline warning us that you have lost control of your herd.
Btw, in a similar vein, I have lost control of the jacket I am wearing. Stupid zipper!
at least it wasn't your pants that lost control SC.

SC...the forecast for the Noog seems kind of hit or miss. Early in the week, they were saying 1-3 inches on Thursday evening. Not it sounds like an inch. Think they're more worried about stuff icing over given how cold it's been.
Don't spect they're to be much of anything, but I predict much panic in the Tennessee Valley. Large quantities of milk and bread will probably be sold tonight and early tomorrow.
I
Don't know why they're a handing 'I' in my above post.
Oh well.
Fighting goats is not MJT's problem, it's that other "f" gerund he does with sheep
Dang it. That should read hanging, not handing.
I'm all over the place today.
The panic started here at the office yesterday and just escalated today. As I predicted, if anyone makes it in tomorrow, it will be me.
If flogging sheep is a crime, then send me to jail. Guilty as charged. Or pretend I don't do it and don't send me to jail. Please, I don't want to go to jail.
It's OK, MJT - james in bham says "I love ewe, too"
I am NOT enjoying the mental picture of Jan Terri in handcuffs.
you think the mental image of handcuffs is worse than the one of her flogging sheep??????!!!!!!!
Then its a good thing neither of you saw the movie Jan Terri made when she needed the money. Don't judge her. Some women consider the things she did empowering, not degrading.
I'm indifferent to who wins tomorrow. Too bad there aren't anymore ties...
Only because it leads to thinking of her in a women's prison "flogging sheep".
We've been put on telecommuting alert here in the ATL for tomorrow and Friday...wifey is sending me out to go grocery shopping...man I should have went yesterday.
Mike Herndon of mobile press register, quoting charles barkley
"I always tell people the three saddest days of my life were the day Elvis died, the day JFK died and the day Alabama fired Mike Shula," he said. "This could be the longest year of our lives if they win. They are the worst winners in the history of civilization."
mr. herndon also has video interviews with ladarius owens and michael dyer in addition to the link i provided earlier to the jake holland interview
Michael, was that the one where she flogged the sheep or the one where she had her sheep flogged?
great Barkley quote THT.
That was part 1 and 2 of the same video, Scott C. Too much video to fit on one cassette tape.
wide screen before wide screen was cool
I've heard Charles make the Shula quote before. It's pretty funny, but I gotta call him on one thing. He wasn't even a year old when JFK died. I guess he could have been really sad on that day because he had a dirty diaper or something.
They say that video caused Idaho to ban the sale of apple sauce in the early 90's. It was quite unsettling.
Part 3 was in 3D, wasn't it?
I didn't like the part where Charles said he would be pulling for Bama tomorrow, though he did pick Texas to win.
He also acted like Bama is gonna run roughshod over Auburn for the forseeable future with Saban as coach.
I love ya Chuck, but come on. That's turrible.
Part 3 was in "Smell-o-vision". They say it effectively killed that format.
Barkley wants to be guvnah... he'll say what he has to say to get the bammer vote.
E-Bro, he's been saying that about Saban for a while. I like Charles, too, but that annoys me. He was saying it before the IB and was pretty close to being wrong. I do like that he pretty much says what he wants. He's entertaining.
i'm out hotties. until tomorrow....
HOOK 'EM!!!!!!!
Alright, here's something I've been thinking about for a while. It may have been covered on here before, but I don't remember seeing it. If you are a Bammer and you had an "S The Coach" sticker on your pick-up truck that you bought when Shula was still the coach, were you allowed to keep the same one for Saban, or did you have to buy a new one? If Shula was "The Coach" doesn't that mean the new one should read "A Coach" or "Another Coach"?
I'm talking about them buying a new sticker, not a new pick-up truck, btw. Also, how about if you bought those stickers for Price, Interim, Shula, and Saban and lined them up in order on your bumper?
I'm heading to bed. Goodnight Hotties.
Take care, THT. Hope you've got some good meds.
Sweet dreams THT.
Okay, an hour of dead thread calls for some stupid humor...
Found on Thewareaglereader.com: Saban's hair spray is called "Polyga Mist"------>
It is unacceptable for ANY Auburn fan to pull for spUAT.
That is like the jews pulling for the nazis.
My apologies if I have offended any nazis.
I should have known talking about that Jan Terri vid would kill this place. It still carries power.
New thread UPZ.
