Auburn to USC: All Your Recruit Are Belong To Us

Hey everyone. Auburn has been working against South Carolina for a pair of highly touted recruits ... and one of them just walked away from the Gamecocks.

Our friends on the Interwebs -- namely AuburnSports.com, AuburnUndercover.com and ITAT -- are reporting that offensive tackle Eric Mack has decommitted from South Carolina. He now is considering Auburn and the Florida Gators.

Mack stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 315 pounds.

He's a four-star prospect.

The good news for Auburn? Well, Mack is now officially available. His defection also may persuade the Palmetto State's other uncommitted star, Marcus Lattimore, to disregard the Gamecocks as well.

Lattimore is considering Auburn and South Carolina.

GRAMMATICAL NOTE: No, the title of this blog entry is not misspelled.

  2. If they both sign, do we start celebrating Strom Thurmond's birthday?

    Nevermind. Don't answer that.

  3. Sorry for the lack of substance, I was over-exuberant on getting my first first post. I could of marked my first post with power-c vitamin water, but I thought that would of been too messy.

  7. Now is the time for ALL GOOD MEN to come to AUBURN. I would be very delighted if we haul in Mack and Lattimore.

He's a loser but he still keeps on trying.

  20. JayG great job on the article. I stated earlier I am glad you hae to double check everything before posting. HABOTN doesn't need a goober like that Kornblut guy. Thanks for you hard work.

That is what the deleted post should have said earlier.

    ReplyDelete
  23. MIchael-We haven't landed yet but he had to decommit before he can commit to AU.

Remind me what your mom said.

  30. Supposedly Mack makes an announcement Thursday at 11:00am between AU and UF.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Oh, to be a Gamecock. I just checked out their rivals page. They have two four star commits and no five stars. One of the four stars is Eric Mack.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I really feel sorry for Vandy, 23+ recruits and no 4 stars. :(

Does anyone remember a previous year when we had 22 solid commits and 5 more highly probable top ranked targets 3 weeks before NSD?

are all of these guys gonna qualify? If so, who grayshirts?

  37. Dmiller-You are right it is Wednesday. I was thinking it was already Wednesday.

Came home today from work and ran 5 miles, cut grass, cleaned out 1/4 of storage room. (I can't believe I cut the grass today. Reel mower keeps so close that any heat starts the growth proces)

    ReplyDelete
  38. STat guy ... you's 'bout 30 minute late.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Mack anounces noon tomorrow

    ReplyDelete
  40. Mack is a tiger...W/O a visit to gator land and decommit from USCe no brainer.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I can tell you now... I doubt I get any work done tomorrow during lunch time...

    ReplyDelete
  42. i can't imagine UF has any room for him, anyway. They have 25 commits, and you know they weren't way below the 85 limit like AU was this past year.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I have a lunch meeting Wednesday. Hopefully I hear something before I go into the meeting.

    ReplyDelete
  44. wtc... if you want, keep your phone on silent and I can send you a text when Mack puts on an AU cap tomorrow....

    ReplyDelete
  45. at lunch i will be parked at the computer. Since I am a chef and lunch time is crazy for me, I will be doing something very very very very bad. Oh well.

    ReplyDelete
  46. atl - Where do you cook and when can I get a comped meal?

    ReplyDelete
  47. UF has the room because of all the losses they will have, but I'm 85% sure he is a TIGER!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  48. I get my info from Bo.

    Bo knows cruitin!!

    ReplyDelete
  49. happy engrish yay

    ReplyDelete
  50. UF had guys leave early, but that does nto affect this class. No matter how many you have, you can only enroll 25. UF can get 28 committs, but on 25 can enroll. Now what I do not know is how many they had count back to 2009.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Good news tonight. 1st EM decommits from USCe and then a Rep. gets TK's senate seat!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  52. I think Mack goes to AU but not sure what to make about UF being in there. I do not think he even made a visit to UF. He was supposedly coming to AU on Junior day with one of his teammates. i think Junior day is next weekend. (Dmiller help me out on this) I thought he would have made his announcement then. I would think he would not come on Junior day if he is not committing to AU.

    ReplyDelete
  53. let me be the very first to utter the most original "Mack Truck". you can all thank me later.

    ReplyDelete
  54. UF has 25 commits and 11 are enrolled now. I'm sure a few of those count towards last year which means they should have room. I still don't see him going there. I think said UF just to add some suspense to the whole thing.

    ReplyDelete
  55. A quick search says UF has 3 counting back towards last year. So they can sign the full 28.

    ReplyDelete
  56. If Mack commits to AU, I propose we all call him "Mack Truck". It's catchy and it has staying power. Who's with me? Don't be jealous because you didn't think of it first.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Norm ...

You're a trendsetter. The rest of us can only hope to bask in your reflected glory.

    ReplyDelete
  58. WTC, wouldn't that mean they could sign 31? We plan to sign 33, take out the 5 that count back and that gets us to the 28 for this class.

    ReplyDelete
  59. It just came to me... Eric Mack Truck

    Mack Truck... get it?

    ReplyDelete
  60. CHB-all 11 of UF commits that have enrolled are HS grads for 20010. None are JUCO. FWIW.
I agree with you. I think he just needed a 2nd name to throw out there. I hope we both are right Wednesday.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I asked hawt cartoon Au chick and she says "Mack Truck" it is.

    ReplyDelete
  62. CH=B...we try to keep from discussing politics on this blog.

We're not always successful and I'm an offender of that rule myself, but we try.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Jet - you and the rest of the Hotties are absolutely welcome to ride on my coattails.

Offtopic - I'm watching something I don't usually watch right now and there's a very good reason I don't usually watch it, the host is an absolute TOOL. Keith Olbermann sucks.

    ReplyDelete
  64. WTC, It doesn't matter if you were in hs or juco. We have two that graduated hs early and are now enrolled.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I knew I would be scolded for the political statement, but I couldn't help myself.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Yeah, we don't do politics here.

There are 1,000,000,000 other places top either promote your party or rip the bad guys.

    ReplyDelete
  67. WTC, as long as you enroll in Jan. and the college has space to count you back you can count back.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Mack was supposedly planning to bring in a junior teammate this weekend, ahead of the junior day to show him around... the kid he was going to bring is Alshon Jeffrey's little brother (same Alshon Jeffrey as the USCe Freshman WR).

    ReplyDelete
  69. Yeah they can sign 31... I should have said enroll 28.

    ReplyDelete
  70. G-Sorry I know this isn't the place.

    ReplyDelete
  71. CHB...No hard feelings. I ain't mad at ya.

Wasn't sure if you were aware or not.
Like I said, I've crossed the threshold before myself.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Ok I was confusing WTC and Wake with my post. All is good, UF can sign 31, but it doesn't matter because Mack Truck is ours.

    ReplyDelete
  73. we are allowed 33...5 enrolled early= part of last years signings...and 28 for this years

    ReplyDelete
  74. CHB-My mistake. Not sure what I was thinking.

I will quit posting for awhile.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Speaking of the BC coaching situation, what do y'all think about the election results tonight?

    ReplyDelete
  76. Would Mack Truck (copywrite pending) refer to his son as "Semi"?

    ReplyDelete
  77. Does anyone else think it odd that BC went from Coach Jag to Coach Spaz?

    ReplyDelete
  78. Coach Jag...talk about a bad career move.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I heard things didn't go real well for him in TB.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Glad to get on tonight and catch up on good news. I like the reports from wtc's mother. Anxious to hear the news on Mack tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Norm,
Mack Truck's second son could be Tonka.

    ReplyDelete
  82. In more important news I have nearly every ho dialed except that damn ho 8. I had grand total of 11 strokes outside of that one, for a score of 17 under.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Scott Brown for President!

    ReplyDelete
  84. Wonder if Mack saw what happened to Thornton and decided it was time to get the ball moving. Everyone knows this recruting stuff is about marketing and getting your news out first. Maybe the Stone kid cancels his visit to AU this weekend and AU wants to counter that with an announcement (assuming AU gets Mack).

    ReplyDelete
  85. Tonka, that's pretty good too.

    ReplyDelete
  86. JayG-Is Pmarshall headed to SC for something Wednesday?

    ReplyDelete
  87. wtc,
I must have missed something. What about Stone?

And did I hear that Thornton marked off Auburn because they wanted a commitment right away?

    ReplyDelete
  88. I do think we get Mack. We have an excellent offensive line now, but come 2011 we have 4 spots open. Sure, there will be competition, but it would be hard to see him not taking one of those slots.

And does Truck coming to Auburn say anything about Lattimore?

    ReplyDelete
  89. WTC ... the answer to your question is "yes."

    ReplyDelete
  90. Somehow I don't think Scott Brown would be a good offensive tackle.

As for why Truck would announce, I imagine even the high profile recruits are being told they need to decide. We don't have many spots left and I am pretty sure the coaches want to make sure that about 3 of them are linemen.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Cincy-Thornton gave an interview and said 'the AU coaches panicked' on the in home visit. He says they told him they wanted an answer that night and he would not give them one. He says AU was leading until then and now Au gets no visit and they are out of the mix.
My thoughts are the AU knows they get Whitaker and would take either Thornton or Jones. They tried to get a commit (even if it was silent) from Thornton before Jones came to town (they could have asked him not to come if Thornton committed), but when they squeezed him, he turned AU down. That train has left the station now and the offer landed in Jones lap.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Cincy-the Stone kid is supposed to visit this weekend. He had an official visit to UA this past weekend. It has been thought that he was a heavy UA lean all along. I would not be surprised if he cancelled this weekend. If he does come, AU will make a strong run for him. He would certainly be icing on the cake, if he did come to AU.

    ReplyDelete
  93. wtc, I was thinking something like that happened, but I wouldn't call it panic. Somehow the coaches have to manage the few remaining offers. I do believe they wouldn't want to get Jones down to visit and then say they were unsure if they could sign him.

    ReplyDelete
  94. And I still cannot believe Brown took Kennedy's seat. No, I am not talking politics, just furniture. I just never would have expected that.

    ReplyDelete
  95. I know Steve, there is no respect in society these days. What happened to giving an old man your seat... now we are stealing them from old men. I mean Teddy has ancient, he deserves to sit.

    Kids these days.

    ReplyDelete
  96. MrsTHT and I finally decided where to go for summer vacation.

    We're going to Massachusetts.

    ReplyDelete
  97. There's a time and a place to discuss politics on HABOTN. The time is never. You can figure out the place.

    ReplyDelete
  98. I missed this on 60 minutes this week. Fascinating story of football in American Samoa

    the video

    or, if you'd prefer to just <a href="http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/01/14/60minutes/main6097706.shtml>read it</a>

    ReplyDelete
  99. I highly recommend the video for those who did not watch 60 minutes on Sunday. What a great story.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Thanks THT. This is a great story.

    ReplyDelete
  101. i saw that story, i cant comprehend how they get such good football players with no weight rooms/ equipment and terrible coaching

    ReplyDelete
  102. jhag, I once heard that Bo Jackson had never lifted weights before college. I do believe that work ethic can do a lot.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Good morning and Happy Hump Day, Hotties!

Great news if Mack Truck (I like Big Mack too - has about as much staying power as the truck. How long has the sandwich been around?) commits to AU! We need linemen.

Tar Heel, I found the explanation of Jay G's thread title confusing too!

    ReplyDelete
  104. Another earthquake in Haiti this morning. 6.1 magnitude. Aren't they going through enough as it is??

    ReplyDelete
  105. Luv- Agree, terrible news about the 6.1 aftershock.

As far as Mack goes, this is not the first Mack lineman we've signed, we once had Kendell Mack.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Eddie-Rumor has it that the Rivals guy (Jeff Lee) traveled to SC last night. I woul dthink he woul only go if he thought EMack was coming to AU.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Morning Everybodies!

Steve - I have heard that both Bo and Hershel did pushups, situps and ran. Never did the weight thing. That is the runor though.

And speaking of rumors, I heard that if we get Eric Mack, his nickname will start out as "Mack Truck". Get it?! I mean that's pretty clever isn't it?

    ReplyDelete
  108. somebody set up us the mack.

    ReplyDelete
  109. I'm having a hard time understanding how 6.1 is not another earthquake. When aftershocks are that big, they should be considered another earthquake. It's also incredible that they are still finding survivors from the original earthquake.

    ReplyDelete
  110. mrtommyd, yeah, that's no "shock." That's a major quake.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Operator, main screen turn on.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Someone set up us the bomb

    ReplyDelete
  113. WTC- If JerkLee of Rivals is going, that has to be good news for Auburn.

Mytommy- I have it from pretty good authority that Bo never lifted while at Auburn. He was a huge pushups, situps guy. I heard that Coach Dye told him that he needed to be lifting and Bo responded that he would do so only if his maxes were not good. Bo showed up to max out and his bench and squat was the team best and Dye allowed him to continue to do his own workout. I'm sure there is some interpretation things that have been embellished, but this comes from a guy that was part of the team during that.

    ReplyDelete
  114. That's great ehyou!

    ReplyDelete
  115. Word on the street is there are two commits gonna happen today, the second i don't wanna spoil so i will leave it be, my socks will be knocked off if the latter happens. I'll just say aside from "the mack", this other fella could help the O out as well. We'll see how good homeboys info is.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Yeah Eddie, I'm sure there is some embellishment, but every story I hear about Bo I pretty much believe as true.

    ReplyDelete
  117. I think that it will always be with smile. Then a pleasant thing comes.

    ReplyDelete
  118. heard the story about Hershel not weightlifting a while ago, but didn't know about Bo.

Don't usually watch 60 Minutes, but saw it Sunday--really enjoyed the story about American Samoa and football. The people that were interviewed seemed like very good, hard working people. There was also a nice story about Penelope Cruz.

FWIW, Dwayne Johnson is Samoan on his mother's side.

    War Eagle, Hotties! Work calls...

    ReplyDelete
  119. BinOBa- I would be shocked if Ambles commits today as some are rumoring. That would be very surprising.

    ReplyDelete
  120. What I find hard to understand is that if there are currently 30 NFL players from Samoa, can't those boys get some real equipment down there? I mean most of them are sponsored by some sort of athletic gear, right?

    ReplyDelete
  121. Yeah me too eddie, that's why i didn't wanna drop a name. We'll see what happens.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Dwayne Johnson is a disgrace to his family. The Tooth Fairy? C'mon!

    ReplyDelete
  123. Dwayne Johnson is the Tooth Fairy and Jackie Chan is babysitting in the movies. Times must be getting tough.

    ReplyDelete
  124. I saw the 60 Minutes story on Sunday too. Maybe now this story has aired, someone will donate some equipment.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Lord knows there's PLENTY of money in sports - professional and college.
