From the "Seriously?" Department
Hey everyone. From the Dothan Eagle comes this hilarious interesting story about Tommy Tuberville.
The new Texas Tech coach is interviewing Troy offensive coordinator Neal Brown for the Red Raiders' OC position. Why do I find this funny?
Brown is the closest thing one can get to Tony Franklin without hiring Tony Franklin. Brown worked for Franklin at Troy and has described himself as a Franklin protege.
It's the circle of life.

Cincy, you can dance with anyone you like.
As for me, I've done my job. I'm heading to bed.
To the HOTTIES, sleep well.
Wow. excellent flip Jet. You must have been training hard for that one.
That line just always makes me laugh. Good job, Jet. Goodnight
Animal House was classic. It would be a different world if John Belushi was still around.
haha dnatl, I think you are on the money with your Tubs theory.
207!
BOOM!
"Circle of Life" = ohcoona bahtahda
I've always wanted to know how to spell that.
BTW, if you can get on Rivals, check out Jawara White's video. There is one toward the end where he submarines a double team, send both blockers straight up into the air, and makes the tackle on the running back who thought he was running behind a double team. Man, it was awesome. We have some LB help on the way boys. This class is going to be a good one.
OMG Mcgwire juiced!?!?!?!?
Of note: Sounds like Tim Hawthorne still has plans on playing in 2010 ... at another school.
He is an Auburn graduate. The NCAA used to have a provision that graduates could transfer without sitting out a season, but that provision apparently was eliminated in 2007. I don't fully understand what Hawthorne is planning to do.
I'll pass along any additional information when I get it.
Jay,
Refresh my memory. Did Hawthorne get put off the team? Was he hurt? Or did he just not get to play?
This is an excerpt from Doug Segrest's look ahead to next year with his own pre-season top ten. Read what he says about Georgia Tech and then see who has ranked one spot ahead of them:
"9. Virginia Tech. Quarterback Tyrod Taylor and running back Ryan Williams are a great start on offense, and the defense should be back to normal.
10. Georgia Tech. Paul Johnson's team will be the cream of the ACC."
Georgia Tech will be the cream of the ACC, but Virginia Tech will still apparently be better. Too funny.
Good morning, Hotties! Would anyone else rather be back in bed as much as I would? Some days it's harder than others to get out of bed at 3:30...
E-Bro, going back to McGuire. I heard on ESPN yesterday that he said he wished he hadn't played during the "steroid era." What a load of BS!! Has he ever heard the phrase, "Just say no!"??!!
McGwire is a tool. Every record he or any steriod player touch should be wiped out of the record books. Roger Maris got robbed when he set the record and robbed the 6 times it has been broken. Baseball is a joke.
Morning Hotties! Oh. Luv, I don't know ho you get up at 3:30am! I didn't really know there was a 3:30am. :)
See, it's 6:45am and I can't even spell.
Cincy ...
He graduated and opted to leave. I think the rule now is that he has to find a school with a graduate program that Auburn does not offer, or drop to a lower division. I readily admit I could be wrong.
Cincy, alas, I have to get up at 3:30 because I have to be at work at 5:00. I only live 2 miles away, but I don't like to rush in the morning - makes me anxious.
Eddie, I completely agree with you on the steroid issue.
Jet,
I don't remember, did he play any this year?
I hate that for Hawthorne. I think he is a good WR. I remember last year us yelling, "Throw it to 13! He's open!" The few times the ball did get thrown to him, he rarely dropped it(I could be wrong - you know my memory!). But, I guess he's just not as good as Adams and Zachary. I wish him only the best.
Cincy, I think I remember seeing him out there a couple of times, but the ball never got thrown to him.
As good as Todd was for Auburn this year, and he was better than expected, he really never progressed through his reads. If Darvin wasn't open, then we were in trouble that play. I saw several wide open wr's all year long that Chris just didn't see or didn't look that way. I am a fan of what Todd did this year at Auburn and he was the perfect QB for this season, but I expect more from the QB position starting this fall.
I just checked in to see what condition my condition was in.
How deep is your love? (for Auburn that is.)
For the QB in our offense, a little speed will go a long way. One thing Todd definitely didn't bring.
Things are truly going to be interesting this year starting with the QB position. I agree about Todd's contributions; however, you are right about a little more speed at the QB position. I only saw him read the option play right once this year and that was in the OB Bowl All the other times, he pitched the ball to early and most of the times, the RB was covered and he was open to turn it up and run. I don't know if he just didn't read those plays right or he just didn't want to run and take the hits.
Off to Bible study. You chickies have fun until I get back.

See what Nova sees
I think Todd's performance was great for most of the season. He constantly hit receivers in the stride... and some of his deep balls were very accurate and well timed.
But yes I do agree that majority of his throws were directed at Adams. Most of the designed plays didn't seem to have options.
And I also agree, he did have trouble with read option. That's perhaps because he was molded in Air Raid offense.
I would like a QB to have more faith in his arm and brais than his legs though.
Re: Roger Maris...in the league with real pitching and hitting, Roger Maris still owns the record. (American League, as it were)
*Brains.
I'm not sure we ran too many read options...that's not really Gus's thing. The thing that concerns me more than the zone read is the speed option...with a QB with any kind of wheels this is a great play...last year for AU it was just an extended handoff.
A note on the xCTT topic...
If he gets the old band back together (Ensminger specifically) and hires another offensive guru from Troy, I would say he didn't learn a dang thing while he was on paid leave.
Hottie Ho!
Hottie Ho THT.
Aero, I agree, I'll take brains and arm over legs also. I think you can have both and be a weapon. We will see. I am excited about the prospects.
Wait, 'the league with real pitching and hitting'?
Is that the one where the pitchers get to to dip snuff on the bench while some overpaid old guy with bad knees who can't field goes to bat in their place?
In a way, I will really enjoy following Texas Tech with Tuberville there.
It will be tremendously entertaining to watch some other program's fans go through the Kubler-Ross Cycle in terms of their championship expectations.
Zombies also prefer brains over legs.
LOL, that'd be the one Freep. I'm not a big AL fan myself but I have to give them an edge in both departments.
Gotta Agree the AL is the far better league right now.
NL>AL
I prefer the national league, I like the strategy the pitcher being in the lineup brings.
But the AL is just a better league.
Do zombies like goats?
IV, are you insinuating that Michael, in addition to all his other roles, is, in fact, a zombie?
After thinking about his for a while, talking with Neal Brown makes sense and Tuberville going to Texas Tech makes sense.
If I am Tuberville, I tell Texas Tech that I wanted to go to the Air-Raid offense at Auburn, but Franklin wasn't a good fit with the current staff. Texas Tech also ruins the Air-Raid. Leach, Franklin, and Brown both are familiar with the Air-Raid and what Hal Mumme did at Kentucky. My guess is that what Mumme did is what attracted Tuberville to this offense.
It is just truly ironic that he would go to a school that runs the Air-Raid. It does fit, once you think about it, but there is a lot of irony in it.
The other way Tuberville fits in well is his recruiting method, which produces star NFL players, many of whom were not star high school recruits. He should be able to find talent for Texas Tech.
Yes, this story really sounded weird, but now that I have done a bit of thinking, it makes sense to both Tuberville and Texas Tech. It will be interested if he is able to do it. Supposedly Tuberville spent some time traveling around this past season learning about offenses. Whether he is able to let the wide open offense do its thing remains to be seen.
I know nothing.
Say What Steve?
why not go to the source and hire Hal Mumme as OC? He's from Texas, currently coaches there, and would undoubtedly make more as TTU OC than HC at Dinky College.
Dinky U. Now there is a school that.... I don't know what.
My Monday column was the most-read story of the year (so far) ... and it's not close.
Thanks for your steadfast support!
Way to go Jay. You da man!
Nicely done JGT. The plug on Lowe's blog probably didn't hurt :)
Congrats JGT! It was an excellent read.
Jay bringing the heat!!! Congrats Jay.
They're still gonna do the furlough on you though aren't they. They are going to furlough their most read sportswriter. The guy that brings more folks than anyone else to their site. That sounds like good bidness sense to me
OK. We're going to hold the first-ever HABOTN poll.
Give me three minutes.
mytommyd - I must confess, to the best of my knowledge, I haven't added 1 cent to the MA's bottom line. Hopefully, the Hotties in the MA's home delivery zone have in some fashion.
Oh you add indirectly THT. Every hit is more they can charge the folks that advertise with them. Or something like that. I think.
yes...he is correct...every time you hit the HABOTN and see an ad, you're supporting the MA.
It is a busy day and the market is interesting, so I don't have much time, but things to keep an eye out for.
The Air-Raid is a pass happy offense. It is closer to run never than run first. Tuberville has mentioned running the ball a bit more. If he mentions running to set up the pass, they will likely have a huge conflict.
As for Hal Mumme, I seriously doubt Tuberville would go near him. Remember the NCAA trouble at Kentucky? I doubt he would want to be associated with that. One of the best things about him is he runs a clean program.
Steve, so sorry that you will have a busy day and won't be here much. We will miss you that's for sure.
Thanks, IV. I will miss you guys too. It is a fun day though. The market is down, but some consumer staples stocks are doing well. It is fun because it is time to sell some and hopefully time to get into some others.
Hee, hee, hee.
