Oops. I said it again.
Hey everyone. I'm shocked to hear today that Mark McGwire, the former home-run hitter, admits that he used steroids "on and off" for a period of "nearly a decade."
This is not relevant to Auburn.
Just thought you might like to know.
Our official HABOTN word for the day is perjury.

Juiced to be 1st.
Darn
I must get a t-shirt with this on it:
“I’m wearing an Auburn shirt because I went to Auburn. You’re wearing an Alabama shirt because you went to Wal-Mart.”
Hmmm, weird he missed the hall of fame last week for the 2nd time, but had gained more votes.
I guess he assumed that telling the truth might gain him more votes.
I guess he finally decided to talk about the past.
Baseball is dead to me.
FSJ has two degrees but I bet he still shops at Wally World.
FSJ did you queue with the masses at the Gardendale Wal-Mart?
Say it ain't so Mark...my idol.
His denial was redonkulous.
My guess is this helps more than hurts HOF consideration.
I know that my future shirt won't apply to all Bammers, but I bet it will be accurate 95% of the time.
I would agree with that, ehyou.
PERJURY!!!!!
diggin' the pic JG.
Lying to a grand jury is not perjury if you are either famous or a politician.
Note many sports and movie stars, Teddie Kennedy and numerous others.
Sean...
I was at Wal-Mart last night actually. :-P
I buy my Bama shirts at Brooks Brothers though.
Posters on Tiderinsider are asking if Willie Martinez can just show up for work at UGA after being fired....sorta like George Costanza did.
Or the guy from Office Space.
Jay G
Love the pic and the pic of Ashley Judd
FSJ-I was surprised about Smart staying though after revisiting UGA twice. I would guess he would be out for any return to UGA now no matter what.
Glad he is staying at UA though. When AU wins, I want no excuses.
Maybe he'll get the idea after they move his desk to the UGA Vault and ask him to take on pest control duties.
FSJ is kidding (about Brooks Brothers).
Sportswriter Tate, since I broke this story on the prior thread you owe me a Coke.
snort
I just saw that Linnie Patrick's house burned and that he and his family lost everything. That is tragic regardless of who you root for. Didn't that happen to an AU player in the last couple of years, too?
I'm not here to talk about the past.
Norm's last two words were "coke" and "snort".
Makes me wonder if the eye injury wasn't a deal gone bad.
We saw the swell of public support Pete Rose got once he admitted betting on baseball. I am sure McGwire was hoping for the same sort of love.
OMG, Norm.
You are so hawt!
Awkward...
The "new" Paul McCartney live album has 33 tracks and costs $13.
I can pay that without feeling ripped off.
That's what Monica was, E-Bro.
Awkward.
*I was quoting MonD there ... in the event anyone was confused.
JayG...of course you were.
As Irwin M. Fletcher would say...
"as far as you know"
Babar ... two b's?
I guess I fell out of favor with our favorite former HABOTNista who thinks Jay G. is mean as I was dropped from her Facebook friends.
A week at Trembling Hills helped cure the drinking and heroin problem that trauma gave me.
T-shirts brings back a memory of ole digger when he was old enough to know better but too young to do better.
Burger King founded in 1954 in Dade County Fla. Did not really get on the map until about 1970, when they came up with somee great slogans which I stole and had airbrushed on a t-shirt down in Panama City, Fla.
On the front was HOME OF THE WHOPPER, underneath was HAVE IT YOUR WAY and on the back it said in very large letters IT TAKES TWO HANDS TO HOLD A WHOPPER.
Yes I wore it twice before Mrs Digger got it and burned it.
Probably a good thing before Burger King found out and took me to court.
We should put out an APB for Monica.
Monica also dropped me as a facebook friend.
I was on sabbatical from the HABOTN when whatever happened happened.
Not cool.
Does Natalie Portman still hang out at Wal-Mart?
RK- Not to worry, I too was dumped by MonD.
RK, I think many were dropped from her facebook. We should start a facebook group dedicated to people who were dropped from Ominica's facebook.
Is it wrong that Chris Low gave best hit of the SEC bowl season to Marcell Dareus for the hit put Colt McCoy out of the game?
It wasn't a dirty hit or anything, but isn't that just adding insult to injury?
E-Bro- MonD got what she deserved IMO. She was loved, but not missed, at least not the drama part. Of course, I'm probably out of line, but since we are no longer friends according to the factual site of Facebook, I guess I can say that.
Sup all? Definately not the tempature...brrrr!
Well I didn't know 'til I checked, but she dusted me too.
Like I said, I wasn't around.
I guess she decided to just throw all of her HABOTN stuff into a pot and burn it.
Enough Monica talk, though.
Out of sight. Out of mind.
Eddie, Omnica chose her own poison. Jay G didn't tell her to get out. He was just honest with her, which seems to have rubbed her the wrong way. Hey, if everyone likes you, you just aren't trying hard enough.
What did you guys do to this Monica chick?
I don't know how to do links - but cut and paste this.
Entertaining photos if you haven't already seen them.

On the more important note, Simon Cowell has announced that this will be his last season on American Idol, which means that....um...sorry...I tried to care...it just isn't happening.
Hornet's Link
Hi Hotties,
Just got back in and sped read comments posted after 7 this morning.
I gleaned that Smart is staying at bama, McClain is going pro, McGuire admitted to taking steroids and Jay wrote an awesome article in the MA.
Did I miss anything?
Something about a hot facebook chick trying to get people to pay...
CH=B, nothing was done to Omnica. I like to refer to it as an autoscew.
cincy, you missed the latest bulletin announcing that Ominica is still gone.
I am sorry ... was it against the rules when he was playing baseball?
Is lying to reporters perjury?
There ain't enough jails out there if it is.
As I recalled he just wouldn't answer Congress' questions.
Non story.
I really do respect how she did it, though. I have known many people that leave places for good repeatedly, only to show up a little while later.
I am sorry to hear that McGwire entered the JADH Hall Of Fame, but that is the way it goes. That is for Just Another Dope Head, for those of you who don't know.
McGuire is a story because it is additional undeniable confirmation that the home run records of the 1990s were fraudulently obtained and the result of illegal substances. Whether they violated MLB policy or not is beside the point; they were illegal. People and reports still refer to Bonds' use as "alleged." It is NOT alleged steroid use; he admitted it all (in sworn grand jury testimony).
This is just more proof for those with their heads stuck in the sand.
Commissioner, I refuse to believe that the records of the 90's were a result of steroid use.
Does anyone have the link to the recently discussed ladies...UCLA and V. Tech was it?
Y'all got me all excited and I had to go to FB and check.
WOOT! Snort!
She deleted me too!
Thank ewe lowered!
The guy on the bottom of the page on Hornet's link looks just like one of the Bammers that I saw at the OB Bowl.
So is Roger Maris the single season homerun leader again?
Or is Billy Crystal going to have to make another HBO movie?
Welcome to the club, Phred, although it doesn't appear to be very exclusive.
Michael, even your avatar was smirking when you "said" that.
Yep, it appears that I too have one less FB friend.
Well at least when we were all booted on facebook there wasn't a grand announcment, press conference and programs handed out.
If my avatar is smirking, that's just because she isn't wearing any pants.
It's all ball bearings.
It's not perjury, Homes. McGwire wasn't man enough to lie or tell the truth, or invoke the Fifth.
He cried like a little girl. And this is a transparent attempt by a dirty cheater to get sympathy HoF votes.
Not that I have a strong opinion. Oh, and he's my co-host's all-time baseball hero?
www.supersport930.com
I need a quart of anti-freeze. Prestone...no make that Quaker State.
E-Bro: If I was MLB Commish, he (Maris) would be. Forget the asteriks for Bonds, McGuire, etc. (and save them for UAT).
MJT/Queen/Boxhead/Thighmaster - that was just an image I could very easily have done without.
If MLB wants any credibility:
FREE ROGER MARIS
FREE HANK AARON
Otherwise, MLB coninues to be a joke.
MLB doesn't want credibility. They want money.
That's "Holmes," as in: "Excuse me, Holmes. Could you please tell me how to get back on the expressway?"
Money, credibility.
You say potato, I say pototo.
I will never understand how Pete Rose was so thoroughly beaten down, but the dope head crowd seems to not really take much of hit of their actions.
By the way, if Rose had been betting against his team, I would see it differently.
Sorry folks. Park's closed. Moose out front shoulda told ya.
In other related news, Generalissimo Fransisco Franco is still dead
Rose didn't admit to betting on his own games...that doesn't mean he didn't do it.
I meant against his own team. He did bet on his own games.
Michael is a smart man.
I realized it was the Steroids Era when I saw heads swell up larger than Phil Fulmer's belly.
Baseball is rife with cheating. It's in its DNA -- the almost tag of the bag, the spitball/greaseball, corking of the bats.
I'm not going to drudge up fake anger or shock because McGwire finally came clean. He admitted it when he wanted to (or when Selig told him he had to as a condition to coach), and he managed to wait after the HoF voting so that must not have been the motive.
Baseball doesn't matter much to me. I'll watch the playoffs, but that's about it. I guess I just don't care what Mark McGwire did or what he says about it now.
It is possible, but I have never heard proof, so that leaves him in the category of every other coach.
Can you imagine a coach of Auburn or Alabama betting against their own team. If news came out, do you think they would dare step back on campus? I think not.
My guess is Rose gambled, but not betting against his own team. Even if he would win, I would have lost. It wouldn't make sense.
Quick Question:
On Finebaum, someone called in and asked about Greg McElroy's broken ribs not being reported by Bham News or any of the Tuscaloosa beat writers despite their apparent knowledge of this injury prior to the BCS game
Apparently, beat writers (Cecil Hurt, Gentry Estes) knew of this injury, but did NOT to report it, as it could affect the gameplan used in the Texas vs. Alabama game?
If this is true, what other news stories are not being reported so as not to damage the University of Alabama?
Sorry to post this here, but our hero, Jay G. Tate, has made a point of saying that he is NOT a fan - he is a reporter.
Not reporting a HUGE story like a QB having broken ribs because 'you don't want to influence the outcome of a game' screams of a complete lack of journalistic skills and seems extremely unethical.
For the hearing impaired; OUR TOP STORY TONIGHT!
I wouldn't chastise a reporter for not reporting a player playing with a broke rib. It could cause players on the other team to look to take advantage and really hurt the kid. I wouldn't make to much of that. A story like that is probably not worth the consequences.
OUR TOP STORY TONIGHT
that's funny Norm, I forgot all about that.
President Ford flew to Paris for a summit conference, and boy, are his arms tired.
New Jersey Assembly Approves Medical Marijuana
"Franco is still dead" is just a little bit ahead of my time.
Greg ...
I'll take a shot at it ... reporters don't write everything they know, otherwise they might know anything ever again.
Reporters knew in 1985 before the UAT game that Bo Jackson had cracked ribs, too. And it wasn't written about.
Plus, today, we have HIPAA.
if you way pototo, you're wrong. same as if you say potatoe and ruin your political career.
btw, I was the deleter, not deleted.
Comm'r. Post more please. It's nice to "see" you.
It would definitely have been reported by an unbiased reporter. It's not like it was a national security issue being hidden for our safety. It is football.
That material may be a tad dated.
Norm's Chevy Chase and you're not.
SteveFC:
The last real MLB Commissioner (Bart Giamatti) had ample evidence he was betting on his own team/games, which is why Rose agreed to a lifetime ban. He agreed to the ban to spare himself the embarrassment from a public vetting of the charges. Only after Giamatti died did Rose start weasling out of the agreement, and soft selling his deeds.
http://www.baseball-almanac.com/players/p_rosea.shtml
Greg: They probably had no way to corroborate that information. That makes it difficult to write.
Thanks, PF. The girl pictured adores me, along with numerous women in the Niagra Falls area.
Bart Giamatti was a bully.
Thanks Jet - forgot all about how HIPAA could effect reporting on injuries..
While I understand about how access works with respect to the media & the people they cover, this particular story just seemed wrong somehow.
As for McGuire (sorry for the threadjack), I'll just offer:
"When the storm is over, the wind quits blowing"
Looks like McGuire forgot to turn off the wind (shut his mouth)
Niagara, tool.
too. not tool. I wasn't calling names.
Corroboration.
That's why I come here.
I liked it when you called him a "tool," PF. It much more fits the mood around here the past few days.
Comm'r, I don't think betting on his own team is as significant than if he bet against his own team, which might imply fixing. I still consider what the dope heads did much worse.
I consider betting on your own team putting your money where your mouth is ... but that's just me.
BEST FREE AUBURN SPORTS SITE ON THE NET!!
What site that isn't the HABOTN could possibly say this with a straight face?
Some steroid using site would probably do it, PF
Jay, if you had been told prior to the iron bowl that Chris Todd had a broken rib, but please do not share it, would you have done it? I mean, an opponent might think a late hit penalty would be worth it in such a case, no matter how dirty that would be.
it's not even original. Uses 67% of HABOTN in its tagline.
If you had been told Chris Todd has a weak arm, would you have reported it?
Let me put it this way. If Chizik had bet on us to beat Alabama, I wouldn't be upset at all. If Chizik bet on Alabama to beat us, he couldn't be fired quick enough.
Too Comment on a few things from the past few hours.
Mark McGwire: Tell me it ain't so, I never even imagined he was on steroids
Facebook Hottie: is hot
Monica: Likes me more than all of you... facebook says we are close
Pete Rose: Belongs in the hall
the tahd: sucks
Being a reporter must be tough at times though. Can you imagine being asked to not report something and then having your boss come to your desk and ask you why your paper was the only one not to report the story? That would be tough.
What if Chizik, played an injured player because he bet on Auburn to beat TN-Nooga by 50, and, as a result, that player suffered further injury that either shortened said player's career (or at least caused him to miss the Iron Bowl)? How would you feel then?

Not as bad as the injured player, PF
extra commas are a gift. as are the double posts. enjoy.
Oh, did we cover?
hardy har, Jet.
I'm trying to demonstrate to Steve why Pete Rose was wrong. Hold off on that new thread.
