Oops. I said it again.

Hey everyone. I'm shocked to hear today that Mark McGwire, the former home-run hitter, admits that he used steroids "on and off" for a period of "nearly a decade."

This is not relevant to Auburn.

Just thought you might like to know.

Our official HABOTN word for the day is perjury.

T-shirts brings back a memory of ole digger when he was old enough to know better but too young to do better.
Burger King founded in 1954 in Dade County Fla. Did not really get on the map until about 1970, when they came up with somee great slogans which I stole and had airbrushed on a t-shirt down in Panama City, Fla.
On the front was HOME OF THE WHOPPER, underneath was HAVE IT YOUR WAY and on the back it said in very large letters IT TAKES TWO HANDS TO HOLD A WHOPPER.

Yes I wore it twice before Mrs Digger got it and burned it.

Probably a good thing before Burger King found out and took me to court.

McGuire is a story because it is additional undeniable confirmation that the home run records of the 1990s were fraudulently obtained and the result of illegal substances. Whether they violated MLB policy or not is beside the point; they were illegal. People and reports still refer to Bonds' use as "alleged." It is NOT alleged steroid use; he admitted it all (in sworn grand jury testimony).

This is just more proof for those with their heads stuck in the sand.

Michael is a smart man.

I realized it was the Steroids Era when I saw heads swell up larger than Phil Fulmer's belly.

Baseball is rife with cheating. It's in its DNA -- the almost tag of the bag, the spitball/greaseball, corking of the bats.

I'm not going to drudge up fake anger or shock because McGwire finally came clean. He admitted it when he wanted to (or when Selig told him he had to as a condition to coach), and he managed to wait after the HoF voting so that must not have been the motive.

Baseball doesn't matter much to me. I'll watch the playoffs, but that's about it. I guess I just don't care what Mark McGwire did or what he says about it now.

3:36 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

It is possible, but I have never heard proof, so that leaves him in the category of every other coach.

Can you imagine a coach of Auburn or Alabama betting against their own team. If news came out, do you think they would dare step back on campus? I think not.

My guess is Rose gambled, but not betting against his own team. Even if he would win, I would have lost. It wouldn't make sense.

3:37 PM
Blogger GregaPress said...

Quick Question:

On Finebaum, someone called in and asked about Greg McElroy's broken ribs not being reported by Bham News or any of the Tuscaloosa beat writers despite their apparent knowledge of this injury prior to the BCS game

Apparently, beat writers (Cecil Hurt, Gentry Estes) knew of this injury, but did NOT to report it, as it could affect the gameplan used in the Texas vs. Alabama game?

If this is true, what other news stories are not being reported so as not to damage the University of Alabama?

Sorry to post this here, but our hero, Jay G. Tate, has made a point of saying that he is NOT a fan - he is a reporter.

Not reporting a HUGE story like a QB having broken ribs because 'you don't want to influence the outcome of a game' screams of a complete lack of journalistic skills and seems extremely unethical.

I wouldn't chastise a reporter for not reporting a player playing with a broke rib. It could cause players on the other team to look to take advantage and really hurt the kid. I wouldn't make to much of that. A story like that is probably not worth the consequences.

Plus, today, we have HIPAA.

The last real MLB Commissioner (Bart Giamatti) had ample evidence he was betting on his own team/games, which is why Rose agreed to a lifetime ban. He agreed to the ban to spare himself the embarrassment from a public vetting of the charges. Only after Giamatti died did Rose start weasling out of the agreement, and soft selling his deeds.
