Gymnastics scores big win

Hey everyone. You know I'm not a gymnastics fiend by any means, but Auburn accomplished something unusually notable last night.

The Tigers beat defending national champion Georgia for the first time in 64 meets Friday night.

I'd tell you more, but I don't know that much about gymnastics. We're fortunate, then, that Opelika-Auburn News ace Andrew Gribble know his flips, dismounts, rotations and point values.

Congratulations to Auburn coach Jeff Thompson, a 1986 Kentucky graduate.

  4. I love watching gymnastics. There is a fun group of boys from Auburn Christian Fellowship who go to support the team at every home meet. They are Auburn Gymnasty! They paint themselves up and do a great job jazzing up the crowd. The reason they are the gymnasty is when they first began, they didn't have enough people to spell gymnastics - thus gymnasty.

  5. I went to a surprising number of gym meets at AU. My sister was a gymnast so I knew what was going on, and the girls were hot. Me and some buddies would get drunk and go, it was always a good time.

I wish we got a 2nd chance to beat bama this year.

  6. The last weekend in February will be a fun one for us - going to Auburn for a gymnastics meet, a basketball game and at least one baseball game. Life is good.

Wow ...here is an example of coaching trumping recruiting. Great job.

  8. If anyone is just dying to see a picture of what I described, they have a page on Facebook. On their backs they have "Let's Get" and then on their chest, "Gymnasty!" I love creativity :)

Gymnastics is brutal. Indvidual performances for the team good ...with results determined by subjective judging.

When my daughter was involved in gymnastics, I spent many Saturdays in estrogen-filled, emotional gymnasiums.

Cincy, nice planning to be able get that much sports diversity in one weekend.

Of course, any weekend on the Plains is good.

Are the roads clear to Nashville?

  14. This is what I know. The Gymdogs can get bigger crowds and more pub than the men's basketball team, because they are very good. This is a GREAT win for AU gymnastics!

  15. From the crime blotter on Chattanoogan.com.

David Norman of Valleybrook Road reported that someone broke into his vehicle.

Items missing include a stun gun and three Alabama collectible knives with bone handles and the words "Bear Bryant: End of an Era."

  16. mr.TD,

The UGA men's bball team is now selling out games. First time in many years. Still, the Gymdawgs should have a higher average attendance for the season.

Dang, it had to hurt to lose those knives. I bet someone spent a month's worth of lunch money on them.
