Looking at: Cam Newton
Hey everyone. The Hardcore HOTTIES® probably have read this, but I ran a feature about Cameron Newton, Auburn's five-star quarterback, in today's editions of the Montgomery Advertiser.
It starts like this:
AUBURN -- Cameron Newton spent the first 19 years of his life hearing people rave about his greatness and the dominating player he'd someday become.
The adulation disappeared on Friday, Nov. 22, 2008.
It ends like this:
"... he could be a guy Auburn fans remember forever."
Please have a read.

I did read the article, Jay G. Nice job!
Read it this morning and it was very interesting and well done.
well, I missed the trifecta.
This is a continuation from the other thread - but I think it is a good thing you boys now have wives to look out after you and keep you out of trouble.
nice article, JGT. well written as usual.
It was a great article, Jay. I enjoyed it. It was linked from another board. You're nation wide.
Thanks for all the work and substance.
You can't track individual webhits can you? I don't think my employer would want to see the frequency with which I check this site.
you are so right, Cincy. MrsTHT is the most amazing human I know.
Hi Wes,
You ready for a blizzard?
I may be rectangular, but I am a hardcore Hottie!
Great read, JGT!
Just stopping by...
I read it Jay...nice article. Let's hope that last sentence rings true!
I read it this morning but I'll add my compliments now - nice work as usual Homer. You select nice topic.
Great article on Cam Newton, JayGT. The best stories have a theme of redemption. See Shawshank Redemption:
"[Cam] crawled to freedom through five hundred yards of shit smelling foulness [at UF & Blinn CC] I can't even imagine, or maybe I just don't want to. Five hundred yards... that's the length of five football fields, just shy of half a mile."
Yep, pretty good metaphor.
Just spoke with Barton Simmons of Rivals.com ... no relation to Chad Simmons of Scout.com.
Barton Simmons was surprisingly high on Auburn's recruiting effort, said they'll finish ahead of Alabama (behind Florida and possibly Texas) if Coleman, Whitaker, Lattimore and Lemonier sign.
No. 2 is a serious possibility ... if those kids sign.
... if you care about recruiting rankings.
Recruiting? What is this recruiting of which you speak?
Primo article good sir. That's my kind of entertainment.
that would be sooooo cooooool!!! Thanks for that tidbit, Homer.
Norm,
I don't know, but it seems some people get pretty hot and bothered about recruiting. I don't know of anyone, but I hear....
Also, nice flow chart chocoscott. I had to share that with some buds of mine. Finebaum abhorrence is not limited to Hotties.
Jay G... you using an old Vonnegut literary device in this blog post?
Perhaps.
and so it goes...
All told, Andy skipped town with 28 of Saban's recruits. Severence pay for years of irritation.
Nice article, Jay G.
Especially the last line! With a solid qb, AU was poised to be fighting for second in the West next year, with another 8-4 or 9-3 type season. We have a good to Great OL, good receivers and backs and more defensive depth...all that was missing was a qb. At the bowl game, overheard AU network guys saying that Newton takes us to that next level and challenging next year for the West. I sure hope so! Regardless, sure makes things a lot more interesting.
War Eagle, and keep up the good work Jay.
Lebo said the team sure misses ... Tez Robertson this year.
If he brings up Chris Porter or Mamadou, I'll have to stop it right there.
Auburn basketball misses Rob Jones.
The Noodle!
Jay
Did the Rivals guy offer any probablity chances of AU landing the law firm of Coleman, Whitaker, Lattimore and Lemonier, LLP?
I don't even want to go to the Bama game tomorrow, but i probably will cause i got a free tickect. I can't believe they still charge people to go to these games
Has nothing to do with Auburn, but it's hard times for Ohio State when it comes to the best HS player in Ohio.
WDEwg: I didn't really go into that with him. They're guessing like everyone else when it comes to looking ahead.
I haven't followed this recruiting stuff so intently in the past because 1) it wasn't much fun to follow in the final years under xCTT and 2) I didn't read all of these blogs so intently this time last year.
Let's just say I am ready for next Wed to get here so we can move along with spring practice.
I know when National Irony Day is in Eurasia, but when is AU's spring practice?
the ole Chris Porter reference.
I had class with him during the 1999-2000 school year when he was on the cover of SI--can't remember which quarter it was.
I was actually one of the lucky students to get the season ticket card for that season--first time they had sold out the season since Barkley was playing.
Exciting times he and Doc provided...well, up until the buzzkill that was Porter getting busted for taking that money.
This was a cool story about him that I stumbled across last year:
Where Are They Now: Chris Porter
I saw where Rivals.com has Khairi Fortt as Penn State's crown jewel.
He was at BCW, too.
I say this about very few college players, but Chris Porter was an unpleasant person.
Snowing anywhere else?
We got 2-3 right now in the Noog and more to come it looks like.
Foolishly, the fam went out to eat for lunch and got back and barely made it back through our hilly neighborhood.
W/o Eduardo pushing the car, we would have been stuck on one of our hills.
Nasty out there.
But nice to look at from the inside of a house with a fire going.
I really enjoyed this piece and look forward to any others that are to come. Thanks for all the hard work!
Get some
Last season, Chris suited up for the Fujian SBS XunXin of the Chinese Basketball Association.
I have his XunXin Jersey (XS)
I wanna know how Porter was unpleasant? did he smell weird?
I'm surprised Lebo didn't say he missed Tony Douglas.
He was offensive, Harrison
He led the league in all offensive categories, including nose hair
... And Haywood hits one to left toward South America.
Too high ... too high
I thought that periodical was named "DimeBag," which would have been apropos for Porter.
Whadda ya mean, "too high?"
ok, I'm heading out to meet MrsTHT for dinner. I have the utmost confidence that someone will step up to the plate at the appointed time if I'm not back.
JGT - great article on Cam Newton. Thanks! I've enjoyed every bit of information you have sent our way and I really enjoy your writing style.
WAR EAGLE!!!
"____ it, it's gone."
I don't know, Charlie. I'm kinda busy right now. I'm talkin' to a guy 'bout a set of white walls.
THT: "Stop it, nobody likes a kiss-ass."
Chris Porter was a puppet sympathizer.
It's not too high it's too far
Porter = convinced he was the next NBA superstar, acted like he was better than everyone else ... including his teammates and coaches.
...and cost AU a potentially big run in the NCAA Tourney in 2000 by getting suspended. Mack McGadney wasn't exactly going to carry us.
and then he bombed and got arrested for possesion in Abbeville. Not sure what he does now.
Hello hotties. Do you guys ever work? Hehe...
Jay, I hope your trip to SC is fruitful. However, I know Lattimore is getting a huge amount of pressure to stay home, and so are his parents, pressure to make him stay home.
I don't feel good about landing all on the list. People forget, its hard to get a top notch kid away from the home school. If we keep Coleman, land Whittiker and Lemonoir (sp), I will be more than happy.
Once again I am a web jumped and what i've gathered on the final recruits is this...
Keeping Coleman-85%--he does not take a trip to Miami if he commited to Bama
Lattimore--60%
Whitaker-70%
Lemonier-50%
Byran Jones-40%
Looks like we may lose Howard..
But why stay in home to go to South Carolina?
I could understand him picking Clemson a little better given the success of Spiller and Davis the last few years, but South Carolina?
Have a great weekend, everybody! War Eagle! Hate Bama! Wish son-of-Chocolate's Pinewood Derby car good luck!
JayG...just finished the Cam article.
Masterful, per usual.
Ebro, that old ball coach is a silver tongued devil.
ScottC...Good luck to Chocolate, Jr!
NoVa...I reckon he is.
Turf ... I think the Coleman and Whittaker percentages are much higher in our favor. Lattimore and Lemonier are probably in that neighborhood, and Jones as well.
Howard is gonzo.
Turf, I had heard we would lose Bryan Jones. Don't expect him to sign. AU should push DJ to hold off signing until after Lattimore. If lattimore goes to SC, he would feel better about his chances at AU. Just sayin.
Coleman, no one really knows at this point if he is on the way to Miami or not. If he shows up there, it's good for AU.
The only thing Gonzo is Bama's chances at Coleman.
Shon Coleman is in Miami.
Is Howard gone?? He is not listed on Scouts anymore.
This comment has been removed by the author.
Thats a good thing. Usually, Saban commits don't take other visits. But...he's a pretty sly devil himself. Again, if we keep Coleman, get Whittiker and one other, I will be satisfied. I still wonder who the backups will be. Possibly Ambles, Swilling, Beasly? Inquiring minds want to know.
AU, most think he is gone, that AU may have or will pull his offer, and that he wants to go somewhere he is sure to play RB. He went to Clemson w/o telling our coaches. They didn't likey.
Coleman left turdistan last night and at of 3pm est he was in Miami. If Howard takes a visit to Ku then his offer is gone.
G, your comments about Porter are so true. I knew him through a friend that went to high school with him. He alwasy thought he was the shiznit. I saw him at several parties in AU and he was a jerk. I will say that he follow up dunk he had against LSU will for ever be one of the greastest plays I have ever seen in person and one of the best I've ever seen.
Coleman's visit to Miami lends credence to the "He's just taking his visits while he can" theory.
I have a feeling that he wouldn't be there if he was headed to Bama. Could be wrong, of course.
This is on a Miami site:
"It seems like Coleman is just trying to get the most out of the recruiting process and contrary to some reports, will be signing with Auburn on Feb. 3rd. It seems likely that the only way the 'Canes land Shon Coleman is if already signed commit Kelvin Cain legally changes his name to Shon Coleman."
Kathy,
I like that article. Hope it's true!
My crew has abandoned me for the night. What ever shall I do?
The Hotties are here for you, Jet.
Jet,
You can help me come up with an idea for centerpieces for my son-in-law's moot court banquet :) That was the assignment I got today.
Byrnes coach Chris Miller said five Auburn coaches visited with Lattimore Friday. Offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn was at the school by 9:00 AM while head coach Gene Chizik arrived around 2:00 PM. Miller said the meeting in the afternoon lasted about 45 minutes.
Scales with flowers in the balances, Cincy T.
When you get old you get slow I was going to do that for you THT. BUT Jet I can still dance
Pretty fast thinker, Jet.
Cincy T ... I am decisive ... it might not be a good decision, but I'm decisive.
Thanks, digger. I didn't think I'd be back from dinner in time, but seems like a lot of Hotties were elsewhere late this afternoon.
Sup peeps?
Slow rainy night on the banks of the Coosa river. 37 degrees and if it drops much more it will be something else
Cincy - I was thinking about gavels hollowed out at one end with flowers in them, but I have no idea if such exists.
Maybe you can get Scott Choco to make you some of these
A chilly night in the Gump ... an empty house, save the dog ... the laptop ... nothing on the tube ... may cue up an AU game on the DVR ... just for funsies.
A chilly night north of Atlanta. F4* in bed. Sick Hot Wife on the sofa. Dog on the floor. Oldest child in P'ville. Hot Wife watching a recorded show about little girls and beauty pageants. It's a great show to laugh at and ridicule.
That's what's up here.
After we sat down to eat at Margaret's Cantina, it started snowing. An inch on the car by the time we finished dinner. It stopped already :-(

Auburn basketball Mad Libs!

Mirrors. Lawyers like to look at themselves. Future lawyers really like to look at themselves. If you can find a centerpiece that allows them to hear themselves, that will go a long way, too.
watching it, THT. I've never seen it before. Good stuff so far.
It definitely beats what I'm watching.
Norm, I pretty tolerant of what we watch, but Tollders and Tiaras is not allowed.
I suggest a Hydrocodone and a Benedryl for the sick wife, and seizing the remote control.
So Lattimores visit only lasted 45 minutes? Wonder what to make of that.
This show is "Little Miss Perfect". Hot Wife is sick, there's nothing else I care to watch on now and it's a good opportunity to laugh at and ridicule others.
PF - all that train wreck and dam stuff was filmed in the western NC mountains
Hey ... that's what we're for, Norm.
PF: I agree. DFACs should raid those T&T families. Geez, why not just make some online flicks for the pedophiles? Yuck
This comment has been removed by the author.
I could tell by the foliage, THT.
Agreed. The families participating in those "pageants" are absolutely ridiculous. The funny thing for us while watching it is that Hot Wife has a cousin with 2 daughters and they participate in that crap.
Now, it's over we're giving "Semi-Pro" with Will Ferrell a try.
These snowmobile dudes on ESPN right now are crazy idiots...I wish I hung out with them.
I wonder if Spurrier will have to take a helicopter tomorrow to Spartanburg. They've got a pretty icy forecast tonight.
Any Recruitmas news?
Has it really stopped snowing already, Tar Heel? I hope I didn't jinx it for you!
The movie Little Miss Sunshine takes aims at those pageants with sly wit. Great movie (and best use ever of Rick James' classic Super Freak)
nary a flake falling for almost 2 hours, LUV. I'm hoping we'll get a big blob overnight.
Did someone say Super Freak? Never heard of it.
I am close to heaven. I am in the outskirts of the ATL. Just me and my grandaughter!
My son and daughter-in-law were treated to a nite out by a friend. His friend owns a condo in downtown ATL and they are having a night out on the town and I can only imagine what will go on at the condo later.
This is their first night away from their daughter who is five months old. My chest is just busting cause they asked (and trust) me to take care of their baby girl.
I am happy!
Reading some of the articles in South Carolina. Can't beleive how the media has gotten involved in trying to convince Lattimore to pick SC. I'm finding it more and more unlikely that he comes to AU. It's a lot to ask an 18 year old.
Sponge - Who said that Marcus is reading all that crap? He knows where he's headed. He doesn't need to try and find it on the web.
missinit,
That is wonderful. You just eat up every minute of time with that baby!!
Congrats, missinit. Maybe there will be a little grandson at the Thanksgiving table.
Norm, your 8:27 p.m. is an outright lie. I have witnesses.
I finished up processing at the agency I'm aiming for today. I am expecting a call with some REALLY good news in the next week or so.
In other news It's Complicated is among the worst movies I've ever seen, even Steve Martin couldn't save that movie.
Norm ...
Or as I said 26 years ago ... "There you go again."
Jet - they're not here, so it's your word against mine.
Final score in women's gymnastics.
AU 195.225
UGA 194.900
Can't say I'm a fan or an expert, but I believe that's a first.
I'll get affadavits from JC the lead singer, and WG the sax player.
Dang, you got me.
Wow that's awesome Jet.
I know we now employ UGA's former coach, wonder how the dawgs feel about that right now.
Wake - which agency?
E-Bro,
We started out around 4:30 to go get something to eat then slid down the road, luckily got turned around and back in the garage.
I think we've got 5 inches here right now.
This comment has been removed by the author.
Watching Auburn-Ole Miss football on the DVR.
Giggitah.
You hear that, THT. 5 inches in the Noog.
Get some.
Local Sheriff's Dept near me Norm.
Polk if your at all familiar with the region.
Excellent article about Latimore at Bleacher Report. Excerpt:
"If he chooses South Carolina, he will be taking a huge chance. During five seasons at South Carolina, Steve Spurrier has not fielded even one 1,000-yard rusher. In 12 seasons at Florida, he fielded only three. There has been one running back drafted into the NFL from South Carolina since 1992."
I can't wait to speed through there. ;-)
Not familiar at all but I think I've heard of it. Good luck.
I have a cousin who's an EMT in Lake Wales. Say hi for me if you end up there.
1939 was a good year in film.
Just checked AuburnTigers.com, and found the following pre-meet quote:
"We're ready for another exciting SEC matchup. Georgia is a great team, and since we've never beaten them it is going to be a very tough task," said head coach Jeff Thompson.
Friday's matchup marks the 63rd all-time meeting between the Tigers and Gym Dogs, with Georgia holding a perfect 62-0 record against the Tigers dating back to 1986.
PF, one of my good friends works at Lake Wales PD... I very nearly got a job there as well. I did a few ride alongs out there, talked to a few EMT's, maybe I've met him.
I actually have to go to a Jury trial next week from a Armed Robbery out in Lake Wales... not excited.
And Bring it on PF... I will need some tickets in order to move up the ladder.
I don't think asking "do you know wakerider" is going to get you anywhere with anybody.
But since I know your real name, I get a free pass. Right?
I've got jury duty in 3 weeks. Get some.
I've been called for jury duty 3 times. I've actually served on a jury once. There's one less perp walking freely in The Gump now. Get some.
Damn't Facebook always ruins everything.
I'm glad Jhag has given the HABOTN a new saying.
In other news I am clean shaven again for the first time since the academy. I kid you not I walked outside this morning and my chin was cold.
I've served once in Elmore County and there were 3 on the jury that wouldn't convict the old lady who embezzled money from her employer.
Mrs. Jet was sequestered for a week in a capital murder trial and earned the honor of breaking the news that: a) he was guilty; and b) they were recommending that he get a hug from the lovin' arms of Yellow Mama. Sadly, his conviction was overturned on appeal. He was convicted a second time, and received a life sentence. He died in prison.
I am a witness in the case, but there is only one problem. I don't know anything about the case. I showed up at the crime scene, and then left. I was excused from the deposition but that didn't stop them from subpoenaing (what is the past tense of subpoena)for the jury trial.
Wonderful thing, a suh-peenie.
I think I would like to serve on a jury, but I have never been called. So weird, I have friends who have probably been summoned like 6 times and me, never.
Cincy T ... I found it tedious and maddening. Of course, the trial I had featured a rookie prosecutor and an 80-something, senile, old coot defense attorney. It was a train wreck.
As for Mrs. Jet, she was quite affected for a while after her experience.
Yeah, that is what my hubby worries about when I say anything about it. He knows I get very emotionally involved with everything!
I wish I could believe everything I read on the Bleacher Report. It sounds great if true. It would be nice to think they really have inside information, but my thought is they are probably guessing just like everyone else.
National Guard ads totaly in spanish, anyone else find that troubling?
My theory regarding Jury service ......nuke 'em till they glow and shoot 'em in the dark.
I haven't been selected to serve yet.
Hoopie ... that's for jaywalkers, right?
i just finished watching "the man who invented lying".
i thought it was going to be the story of how some ahole from west virginia uses and abuses everyone in his way to get what he wants and revels in the fact that he is a destroyer of lives and dreams and receives national acclaim for his deception.
that actually was what the movie was about, only it was not about $aban. maybe some bammer grad can use their revisionist history degree and superimpose nicky's face over ricky gervais'.
Lattimore
my only jury service to date was on a civil trial.
the case was where some bounty hunters busted into a house to apprehend a girl who had skipped numerous court dates and was trying to elude them.
it was strange because the girl was a total dirtbag to her mom and many kids, yet the bounty hunters clearly overstepped what they can legally do.
the jury wanted to throw all parties involved into a sack and take turns whacking it with a 2X4.
I feel a little embarrassed at my schadenfreude,
not much going on tonight as my 14 month old son is sleeping and the wife is out with her friends,
so...I went to cockytalk and read the last 10 pages of the Eric Mack thread, it reads like a greek tragedy.
It's has a perfect parabolic structure to it.
I served as foreman of a grand jury. It's amazing how stupid criminals can be, like pulling credit receipts out of the safe and copying the numbers while being recorded on a security camera. Most of the indictments were very easy.
We also indicted a priest for child pornography, although we didn't know he was a priest until we read it in the paper later.
I spent over a year serving on a Federal Grand Jury.
That was interesting.
Drugs are bad...umkay.
I've only been called for jury duty once. Wasted a vacation day. I can assure you that I will never be seated on a jury.
Good morning Hotties!
Wednesday they predicted we'd get 10-11".
I doubted.
Thursday and yesterday they predicted we'd get 5-8".
I doubted.
About 3"...4 tops. Now we have very, very light sleet/rain.
Morning Hot Ones. Sleep study over, but they won't tell me if I passed or not. Have a hot day!
Good week for AU coming up. Important week for AU coming. If all goes as planned, AU is taking the 1st of several steps to put the football program where many of us want it to be. I like what I am hearing.
Good week for AU coming up. Important week for AU coming. If all goes as planned, AU is taking the 1st of several steps to put the football program where many of us want it to be. I like what I am hearing.
Time to go put in a run. Looks cold and windy but is only windy this Am. bet is gets worse as the days moves along. Also have to ravel to AU to talk to someone about moving a sofa to a new location.
wtc - thanks for the info. I know you don't follow recruiting, but it's apparent you are a highly trained sofa specialist.
WTC, have fun with the fleecing... I mean, leasing of the new sofa residence. I hope it all goes smoothly.
We're only getting the edge of this one. Only 2-4 inches expected here. Nothing like the Blizzard of 09.
Did anybody see Shaun White last night in the X Games? That could have been alot worse.
New thread UPZ.
Ms Hoopie wants to buy a new sofa. I'm wondering if I need her to consult WTC. Always seek expert advice.
Hoopie ...
WTC is to sofas as the Guggenheims are to art.
