Looking Back On a Classic

Hey everyone. I decided to tackle the drive home from Tampa immediately after completing my newspaper responsibilities last night. Sorry for the lack of post-game blogs.

I just had to get home. Being on the road that long drives me crazy.

So, about the game:

I thought about this on the drive home -- that was the best game I ever witnessed first-hand. I've always told people that the 1999 Super Regional baseball game between Auburn and FSU, the one where the late Brent Schoening used 130+ pitches to hold down a much better team, was the best athletic event of my lifetime.

I decided to reclassify that as "best individual performance" of my lifetime. You should have been there.

Yesterday's game was incredible. Four end-of-game celebrations, only one of them truly meaningful. Ben Tate losing his head and nearly losing the game. An illegal batting penalty on a guy who was in pass coverage 25 yards from the infraction. Crescendo after crescendo. And then a "modern-day fumblerooski" that was squashed at the 2.

Sounds like a movie.

Numbers that stood out -- and will stand out forever.

**Northwestern ran 115 plays.

**Josh Bynes, Craig Stevens, Neiko Thorpe and Daren Bates played all 115.

**Do you know how crazy that is? I'd assess 80 snaps as "crazy."

**Mike Kafka threw 78 passes.

**T'Sharvan Bell (known everywhere as Tee Bell) picks two passes.

**Walt McFadden takes one 100 yards.

**Northwestern, for all that offense, goes 6-for-23 on third down.

**Auburn penalized 12 times for 140 yards. Holy cow.

**Northwestern earned 33 first downs to Auburn's 18.

**Auburn finished with 425 yards on 72 plays. You're thinking: "Nice work."

**Northwestern finished with 625 yards on 115 pays. "Seriously?"

**Northwestern rushed 37 times for 93 yards. That's a 2.5 average. Nothing.

**Thorpe finished with 13 solo tackles.

**Auburn had 22 possessions. Northwestern had 18.

**Eighteen Outback Bowl records were broken Friday. Ten were tied.

ALSO OF NOTE: I enjoyed seeing everyone in the Official HABOTN Section®. That group included THT, LGG Byron, THT 2.0, Digger, IV, IV's sons, mrtommyd, AuFan365. I think Sean was due in the section, but I had to leave before he arrived. Thanks for the placards, THTs -- that was awesome.

ps: Is Cody Parkey struggling in the Under Armour game or what? Two missed PATs (one was affected by a bobbled snap), a short field goal and his kickoffs have been fielded at the 25 or so. Yummy!

  3. sure wish Goodwin had come up with that one. Obviously, Goodwin will be burning Milliner for the next 4 years!

  4. Thanks wtc for trying to keep us updated while you are standing in line at the park! That is dedication.

Welcome home JGT. When do you take a vacation?

    ReplyDelete
  5. 2.0 wants us to go back to the old thread and take it to 2,000 ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  6. no vacations until after signing day =0)

  7. all Parkey needed was for JGT to call him out ;-)

  8. Jay G, from the last thread...Nope--never read that site at all. I was just bored today, looking back over what different sites have reported at different times, and noticed that AU Undercover been very spot on this season with recruiting. I think I remember them being very wrong about something that had to do with coaching or something last year and even had a retraction of some sort...???

Seeing a site that has been pretty spot on for the most part this year say that we're looking like a near lock for 5 players of that stature got me excited!

    ReplyDelete
  9. Parkey has been hampered by some bad snaps and poor handling by his holder...

    He's looked very good lately.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Have we picked up any commits during the UnderArmor game?

    ReplyDelete
  11. So, aside from the first win of 2010, another thing coming out of yesterday's game was that my future 4* has learned a new word - nervous. When he asked why I looked and acted as I did yesterday afternoon I told him it's because this game was making me nervous. Now apparently he's quite a nervous boy.

    ReplyDelete
  12. on Parkey's behalf, he didn't miss the 2nd extra point...they fumbled the snap.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Hurd seems to be viewed as a T A&M lock. He de-committed from Notre Dame a few months back. Hadn't heard of him but went and did some researching when I saw that AU hat!

    ReplyDelete
  14. I amended the Parkey comment to reflect the bobbled snap. That's fair.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Jay, thanks for the Thorpe stats. I didn't realize he had contributed so much.

Also, I read somewhere that we didn't have the punt block team out there for the fake field goal. Is that true? Did Roof really spot that they didn't have their normal field goal team on the field?

    ReplyDelete
  16. d@mn, he misses another one!!! I come to his defense about the bobble, then he blows another chance!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I hate that I wasn't able to go down for the game, but my heart is probably in better shape from just watching it at home instead of in person.

  18. As we look forward to 2010 in the fall, things that we have to fix that aren't player or position related.

    4 straight losses to UGA
    3 straight losses to LSU
    2 straight losses to Arkansas
    2 straight losses to Alabama

    Those must change.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I get tickled when people talking about Rich Rod having to get the right players. That is a load of crap. If you are a decent OC, you make use of the talent you have, just like Borges did with Ronnie Brown. He found a way to use him.

And the most hilarious thing is Ryan Mallet, who left Michigan because he supposedly didn't fit into the Michigan offense. From what I have heard, Mallett will be a Heisman candidate next season. You don't let that kind of talent go. You tailor your offense to him.

    ReplyDelete
  20. The holder for Parkey keeps putting laces in... and is bobbling the snap messing up his timing...

Luginbill has mentioned it a couple of times on his blog. Parkey gave the holder an evil look and a word or two after the last one.

    ReplyDelete
  21. DM where did you find that helmet? I think that would look sweet on the field.

    ReplyDelete
  22. It is a prototype that the team will be wearing next season as part of a uni change with blue pants and orange jerseys.

    ReplyDelete
  23. SFC: Auburn knew NW's kicker was out and figured they wouldn't let the game ride on a kid who hadn't kicked before.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I expected the fake...also I expected the refs to throw a flag for illegal formation and give them another chance.

    ReplyDelete
  25. man, rough day for Parkey. Finally kicks one online and he hits the crossbar from 50 and it kicks back.

    ReplyDelete
  26. D. Miller...we really gonna don that helmet for a game next year?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Watching that game yesterday, with that Northwestern QB throwing pass after pass, over and over, with our secondary being gashed for one big play after another. . .and every break seeming to go against us. . .then seeing us apparently securing the victory, then having it cruelly snatched away, not once but twice, and watching that same QB lead his team closer and closer to our goalline. . .it was like some horrific nightmare from which I couldn't wake up. . .a bizarre, even surrealistic experience.

It reminded me of those stories I read back in my English Lit class at AU, by that Czechoslovakian dude whose name escapes me for the moment.

    ReplyDelete
  28. JW... no.. it was a joke.. I don't remember where I found it... it's a photoshop of a Bengals helmet I think.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I thought it was just a photoshop...thought I remembered talking about that a few months back. It would be freaking awesome if they were to use it though!!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. "our secondary being gashed for one big play after another"

That actually didn't happy...they were gashed for 5 yards one play after another.

    ReplyDelete
  31. what is that site that someone on here keeps posting that you can watch the basketball games on?

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'm one of those "never change the uniforms ever" people.

But it is a nice look.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I love out uniforms but a helmet change would be cool.

  35. That was definitely the craziest game I have ever seen in person. As amazing as it was, I don't care to see Auburn playing in one like that ever again. I don't think my heart rhythm is back to normal yet. I smell a conspiracy with antacid companies paying off the refs... At any rate, When is National signing day? And which of our remaining offers do we have a shot of getting???

    ReplyDelete
  36. Ummm, that helmet will never happen. I would faint and Dye. As for thinking we will use that, you will be surprised to know that naive isn't listed in the dictionary.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I don't think we'd use a helmet like that...I personally like our 'conservative' uni approach and spoke out against all the Nike alternate stuff all season.

With that said, that helmet is VERY sweet!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Bammers, they're just normal folk like the rest of us...

  43. Kathy - I must say that that's my favorite show of those my boy watches. Most of the others annoy me to no end but I actually laugh at this one a good bit.

    ReplyDelete
  44. By the way, 244 LONG days before AU tees it up again for real.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Snead took a big hit.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Thoughts from the game:

    1. When a team throws 4-7 yd passes, one, they are going to complete a lot of them, two, it is hard to get a pass rush on such quick throws. So all you can do is make sure you tackle.
    2. Not surprised by Thorpe with so many tackles with the offense they ran.
    3. Am surprised by Thorpe making that solid play to win it. Proud of him since he has been knocked some this yr for coverage mistakes.
    4. Todd was solid. No ints. Not flashy, but how he always looked for Darvin amazed me.

  48. Jay G posted.

"Northwestern, for all that offense, goes 6-for-23 on third down."

That's an impressive number for us, however they went 4 for 5 on 4th down conversions...mostly on their last drive.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Dang, waited 18 hours for JGT to post a new thread so I could use my "Kafka" joke, and not a single acknowledgement. Guess I'll have to put it on Facebook.

BTW, WERK, the Wildcats four passing TDs were for 39, 35, 66 and 18 yards, respectively. The only one where AU's secondary didn't get torched was the short dump out in the flat that turned into the 66-yard romp, aided by two blown tackles by AU DBs.

    I'd call those 'big plays'.

  53. I don't think bowls have squat to do with recruiting; I believe it's more about the relationship that has developed between staff and player. I believe it has to do with philosophy, and, for many, whether the player thinks they can get to "The League" from whatever school.

Having said that ... I wonder how recruits look at South Carolina and say, "I wanna go there." They look sloppy, boring, and stale.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Simply amazing!!! I cannot believe the lady saying that they are her kids, she has custody. Too many people think custody means ownership. It means responsibility to protect your kids from people, such as ignorant rednecks that would tattoo them before they are old enough to decide what they will do with their bodies. Geeze!!! How stupid!!!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Jet, I think recruiting is different for different kids. Some just want to go somewhere they will win, regardless of whether they will spend their career on the bench. Others want an education. Others want the family atmosphere.

I do believe bowls influence some, but it isn't necessarily whether you look good or bad. Spurrier could say, hay, look, we need you. Do you see how our deep snapper played? We really need someone to step up.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Do you know what I just saw? A gopher. Do you know what gophers can do to a golf course?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Freep,

So 92 of the 625 yards by them were on 3 big plays. The other 533 were pretty much on 7 yard or less plays which they ate us alive with.

The 66 yard play was a big play, but it was a WR screen that we didn't tackle.

Not arguing, just saying that they dinked us to death the whole game, not one big play after another.

    ReplyDelete
  58. If you kill all the gophers, Norm, they'll look you up and throw away the key.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I think if the kid is on the boarderline trying to make a decision, then having a big bowl win can help pull him to your school or having a horrible bowl performance can push them away.

It just depends on the kid.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I think Norm has a license to kill gophers by the the government of the united nations.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Nothing like the mindless interview between network and game sponsor to extend the TV timeout another 60 seconds.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Jet, c'mon now. Few things can top the Krista / Shepherd interview. They're doing the best they can.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Since Jill Arrington left the sidelne, I lost interest.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Now you're just trying to make me cry.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Someone call Steve Spurrier and tell him it is time to hang it up. I never thought I would watch one of his offenses be completely shut out.

    ReplyDelete
  66. And I made a New Year's resolution to not make you cry, Norm. I'm sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Oops, may have spoken to soon.

    ReplyDelete
  68. SEC is awfully underwhelming this bowl season, yikes...OM may lose and USCfailure is getting stomped by UCONN

    ReplyDelete
  69. I remember the two resolutions you posted previously. The second one was "Screw number one". So, I suppose you're off the hook.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Norm, you're not No. 1. Someone else is, and I haven't been able to keep that resolution yet.

    ReplyDelete
  71. You gotta love the Fox announcers wondering out loud if the review of a play was to see if it was a neutral zone infraction penalty and not if the ball was possessed on the interception.

    ReplyDelete
  72. What a hose job on Okie State.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Pat Summerall is about two decades past his prime.

    ReplyDelete
  74. An Ole Nutt win would be pretty impressive. OK State is a good football team.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Jet, you're clearly operating with multiple sets of resolutions then. Perhaps you'll have better luck with number 1 in the near future.

    ReplyDelete
  76. As for USCe, I have decided they are officially an ACC school that is out of place. Give us Georgia Tech. Take USCe. Everything will be right with the world.

Finally able to log on the wi-fi here!! What a great game ... Jay G I agree it was a classic and will be well remembered! And as much fun as the game was it was just icing on the cake to face to face all the Hotties here. Wish I could have bottled the enthusiasm and noise ... coulda made a fortune. Once again a BIG Thanks to THT for taking the time and energy to make it happen!

    ReplyDelete
  79. Bad officiating, bad play.

The pass play prior to the fumble, there was a receiver "covered up" who went out for a pass. Then, that train wreck of a play follows.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Took my wife to lunch today. Out of the blue halfway through she said, "I'm still worn out from that game." Can you even imagine how Neiko Thorpe feels today?

    ReplyDelete
  81. I really didn't know how to deal with so many ups and downs during that game. It was a case where each team kept trying to find ways to loose it.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Well, the Gamecocks went down. However, I'm still holding out for an Ole Miss win.
As to Eric Mack-my nephew who went to the game has given me an assurance that he's committing to AU and he has not let me down yet. I also think the hat is a bit telling. LOL
As to our team's performance-I think Chizik is doing a great job as well as the other coaches. With a great class coming in the future looks bright at AU! WDE and Happy New Year everyone. Btw..Ole Miss just took the lead. Go SEC, (except for the National Champ Game).

    ReplyDelete
  83. Thanks MLF. I hope you are right about Mack. It would really be a kick in the groin to USCe to take Mack and Lattimore, but it could happen.

    ReplyDelete
  84. I hardly follow recruiting to the detail that other do, but it's really weird to be getting multiple kids who are playing in these HS All Star games coming on board with us.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Not arguing with you, WERK - however, if you take away those 3 big plays they still end up with 533 yards. . .and we win 35-14 in regulation.

They dinked us up and down the field, but the majority of their points came from beating us deep.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Our problems were actually more on the offensive side. You just can't leave your defense out there that long with so little depth.

    ReplyDelete
  87. RK, you are probably right to not get all involved in recruiting. It can be very misleading. We have had plenty of "stars" that turned out being known as "who"?

    ReplyDelete
  88. Werk
I don't follow it as much as others, but I here recruiting is going pretty well.

    ReplyDelete
  89. OT, but for those of you concerned about the threat of Chinese engineering and technical superiority:

  90. Back from Tampa and watching a spectacular game. Not necessarily good football but very intertaining if your heart can take it. I must say I didn't realize with that white pauncho on that I looked like the ghost of Tampa Bay. I will say that I had so much fun meeting all of the Hotties and families. Great group of people and I believe fun was had by all.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Freep,

Just arguing semantics. You said "our secondary being gashed for one big play after another" and that just wasn't true. My initial comment which you just supported was there wasn't a whole lot of gashing.

    ReplyDelete
  92. wtc,

I wish I followed recruiting as little as you do.

    ReplyDelete
  93. What scares me for next year is our cornerbacks.

Thorpe struggled a lot this year and Hood struggled in his first significant playing time yesterday.

Hood's head didn't seem to be in the game after getting called for the pass interference.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Hood had zero experience. I think he will improve greatly.

Thorpe has shown what he can do. I'll bet he bounces back. How about shedding that blocker to make the game winning tackle? Dude's got my respect.

    ReplyDelete
  95. New Topic: How the SEC (minus Bama) owns the BCS.

After UF's beatdown last night, I looked this up to throw at my Yankee friends.

    THE SOUTHEASTERN CONFERENCE

    BCS games, All-time: 13-5
    Last 7 BCS games: 6-1
    BCS Championship games: 5-0

In fact, only 2 other conferences even have winning records:

    Mountain West: 2-0
    Pac-10: 9-5

(Of course, the Pac-10 gets to beat down a Big 10 team in the Rose Bowl every year)

I couldn't avoid noticing who has helped the SEC and who has been dragging us down:

    Florida: 5-1
    LSU: 4-0
    Georgia: 2-1
    Auburn: 1-0
    Tennessee: 1-1
    Alabama: 0-2

    In other words:
    Bama + Tennessee = 1-3
The Rest of Us = 12-2

So, the question is, will the Bammers win the (mythical) #13, or will they . . .

    1. Ruin the SEC's perfect 5-0 record in the championship game,
    2. Ruin the 3-year NC streak, and
    3. Continue their "0-fer" streak in BCS bowls.

Just more reasons to hate Bama.

    ReplyDelete
  96. I've said that Thorpe has the tools to be an All SEC corner, but he did get picked on a lot.

Hood just seemed to have gotten frustrated after the PI call and never recovered. However like I said it was pretty much his first significant playing time all year.

Behind those two, I'm not sure what we have at corner.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Thorpe didn't just shed a block, he pretty much shed a hold to make that tackle.

He also made a great play on his interception.

    ReplyDelete
  98. That was part of what was tough about that game, on three of their TD passes our DB's were barely on the screen.

    ReplyDelete
  99. So... anyone else worried about us turning into Thug U?

    ReplyDelete
  100. Anonymous5:27 PM

    Short answer - No.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Yeah. I didn't see a lot of gashing, but Northwestern's passing game certainly has its way with Auburn.

I think Auburn will be OK in the secondary next season. That won't be the issue. I think DT is going to be the issue.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Thug U? Where did that come from?

    ReplyDelete
  103. I guess that was a Michael joke?

    ReplyDelete
  104. Good.

I was a little worried during the game. The Cam Newton recruitment plus the bad on-field behavior here and there from players over the course of the season has me the tiniest bit worried.

I still am in shock that Ben Tate dunked the football. But at the end of the day, I don't know that you can blame the coaching staff for that one. Being a senior, he really didn't have any discipline to fear other than being yanked.

The McFadden one was pretty bad too, but the Tate one... man.

    ReplyDelete
  105. I didn't see the McFadden thing as being too bad, but that's just because of the timing.

The Tate penalty was really bad because at that point he had to know that NW was very capable of moving the ball right back down the field and we needed every yard we could get.

    ReplyDelete
  106. As far as becoming Thug U, I don't think we are anywhere near that level. I think Bates gets out of hand after plays a little, but we are nowhere near as bad a most schools at stuff like that.

    ReplyDelete
  107. I know we aren't rk, and that is something that has always given me pride at Auburn. However, we are 1 year into the new tenure, we are recruiting dudes who steal laptops (not saying we shouldn't have, just sayin), Tate is dunking after a TD (I mean, who would have ever predicted an Auburn rb would do that?), and there you have it, at least an Alert Level of Orange on becoming a school I am slightly less proud of.

    ReplyDelete
  108. And yeah, I was thinking about Bates in particular. Dude's got to chill out when it comes to taunting.

    ReplyDelete
  109. East Carolina up by 10 over Ark at the half. That surprises me.

    ReplyDelete
  110. 115 plays by NW???? UNBELIEVABLE!!!

    ReplyDelete
  111. Like I said yesterday, the Tate dunk was handled the right way by Chizik.

I can certainly see other HCs looking the other way when an outstanding Senior player showboats a little towards the end of his final game. Chiz clearly had words with Ben after the play, and with good reason.

It's my hope that this staff will take great pains to point out how lack of discipline tends to come back to hurt the team. It's an emotional game, played by testosterone-fueled adolescents, so you're going to get some 'thuggish' behavior occasionally. The key is not letting it ever get out of hand.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Arkansas is finally looking better, inside the 10 now, after a interception.

    ReplyDelete
  113. And.... after I say that Arkansas splutters :(

PS: Did anyone see the footage of Bo with the trophy earlier? I wish I was around back then.

PPS: Anyone see the Arkansas commercial? It had a strange University of Phoenix kind of feel to it.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Lord Byron, I was at that Liberty Bowl in '84. Bo pretty much was our entire offense back then.

    ReplyDelete
  115. the USCe people are having a $hit about the Mack photos from today...still trying to say there's no way he'll decommit. I hate to tell them, but he's in one photo by himself with an AU hat on and then one with only the other AU recruits. Not much intelligence needed to see the "writing on the wall" there.

    ReplyDelete
  116. I feel too young :(

East Carolina's QB makes an amazing pass w/ and equal amazing catch to put ECU up ahead and Arkansas counters with one rather lucky long pass :P

    Arkansas is not very good.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Maybe things have changed, but when I had a concussion my doctor ordered my room darkened. Even if he hadn't I would have darkened it to avoid the headaches that bright lights caused. I also had a blindfold. I'm not sure what the TT doctor was thinking in his affadavit.

    ReplyDelete
  122. No matter how bad they are Arkansas looks good when they play Auburn.

    ReplyDelete
  123. This liberty bowl is a bit interesting, basically because the ECU kicker is having such a rought time of it.

    ReplyDelete
  124. The SEC has put on an poor display today... USCe embarrassed the conference.

    ReplyDelete
  125. The ECU kicker might need to stay in Memphis...

    ReplyDelete

USCe lost in embarrassing fashion, and the ECU kicker has now missed (what seems like) 13 attempts in this game.

  127. And the Arkansas kicker shows the ECU guy how to finish a game :P

    ReplyDelete
  128. I was thinking Arkansas might contend in the West next season, but that suctacular kind of changed my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Tonight I will be a Texas Tech fan. I was surprised to hear that several players were glad Leach is gone. That says a lot. Even hard nosed coaches like Dye or Bryant were loved by their players. Not Leach.

    Nice read E.

That is why my buddy who was an OL for AU hates kickers!

    ReplyDelete
  131. Had Skip Holtz known he could have pre-emptively taken the kicker's dessert away from him and he wouldn't have to suspend the two guys who got in the fight.

    ReplyDelete
  132. Tech with an interception :P

    ReplyDelete
  133. quoting the loud mouth of rebound, "that wus terrorble, terrorble."

    ReplyDelete
  134. Two players getting suspended for fighting over a desert is about the most idiotic reason I have ever heard of. If I were the coach, I would have definitely sent them on the first plane back to ECU.

E-Bro, thanks for the article. I do believe getting in the Outback Bowl may have had a more positive effect than winning it. It should definitely give recruits the impression that Auburn is on the rise and respected.

I am very pleased with the first year of ChizCo.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Was he sober when he said that, Byron?

    ReplyDelete
  136. "You know, 'momentum' may be an overused word in football, but it's always important. Always." -- Bob Davie, who was against momentum until he was for it.

    ReplyDelete
  137. There was also one other huge benefit of getting the Outbacl Bowl. We weren't in the Peach Bowl, where Virginia Tech made Tennessee their girlfriend.

    ReplyDelete
  138. Davie can always, ALWAYS be counted on for a few such gems per game.

    ReplyDelete
  139. The laser-like eyes of Thomas Ritter and crew are working the Alamo Bowl.

    ReplyDelete
  140. I agree, Steve. VT looked tough.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Uh Oh. Somebody may need to lawyer-up. Did an announcer just say James was "punished"? I think that's the issue under contention.

    ReplyDelete
  142. stat, sadly he wasn't, he pronounces terrible, as tur-ble.

    ReplyDelete
  143. THT and I just had two frosties and we're fighting to stay awake :(

    ReplyDelete
  144. Okay, which is more likely?

A - Mike "WTF" Leach is hired by another BCS school.

B - Mike "WTF" Leach gets a job as an extra in Pirates of the Caribbean IV.

C - Johnny Depp takes over as the Texas Tech head coach.

I am leading toward B, but C has possibilities.

    ReplyDelete
  145. Hey SFC,
You made my hubby laugh :)

    ReplyDelete
  146. Nice to know I now have a purpose in life.

    ReplyDelete
  147. Cincy ...

I passed by your condo earlier today ... everything looked in order from Magnolia Ave.

    ReplyDelete
  148. I am under the impression that ESPN should have renamed Capitol One Bowl Week to Mike "WTF" Leach Is Fired Week. Heck, which did they talk more about?

    ReplyDelete
  149. E-Bro, Enjoyed your article. Looking forward to your next ones.

Jet, Come by on Wednesday - we'll have a couch!!

SteveFC, Hubby is going for choice B (I think he would secretly like to be a pirate)

    ReplyDelete
  150. Yea, that is what I am betting on too, Cincy. I am actually having a good time watching Texas Tech and playing WWMLD. I can imagine he is somewhere stairring at a screen drinking a Milwaukee's Best and telling his fat little girlfriend how they would be doing if he was coaching.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Has everyone seen this?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIzbTtRNQkM

I'm speechless... I am so glad I'm an Auburn fan!

    ReplyDelete
  152. Oh, yeah, D.Miller, that made us all sick last week.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Cincy ... dress warm ... it will be cold over there ... we were just dashing over to open ElTurbo's cabinets under the sinks ... and changing out the filter on the HVAC unit.

    ReplyDelete
  154. DM, I hadn't seen that and frankly I don't know what to say. By any chance was that produced by the same folks that produced the Eric Berry video?

    ReplyDelete
  155. I kind of feel sorry for Michigan, all they have talked about is ML. I'm trying to just listen to the game and play on the computer, but I couldn't even tell you what is going on in the game. They aren't talking about the game at all.

  157. That punt returner reminds me of a guy in the NFL years ago. He said he wouldn't ever fair catch it. That is, he said that until someone knocked him out of his cleats.

    ReplyDelete

Bob Davies ...a slowtalking Capt Obvious that somehow manages say it wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  159. finally back from Tampa...did anyone else get caught in the awful traffic on I75? It took us 9 hours!

    ReplyDelete
  160. Jet,
Thanks for the heads up. I didn't even think about how cold it is going to get there. Tyler is out of town and I'm sure he didn't leave any heat on. Don't guess it will get below freezing in the condo. If it does, we are in deep doo doo.

    ReplyDelete
  161. Thanks, Norm, hubby loves that episode.

    ReplyDelete
  162. Ugh THT hurt his shoulder earlier, took some pain pills, and just passed out :(. The bad thing is is that hes snoring quite loudly and I dont I can fall asleep with i going on, and I dont have he heart to wake him :(

    ReplyDelete
  163. Also the bowl workers were the worst I have ever seen! We stood with Bo Jackson and they wouldn't even let him in early! We all said don't you know who that is? And the guy said i don't care he can go through security like the rest of us! Hope Bo got him fired!
Glad we Finally won but I for one don't plan to go back....it was not a hospitable stadium. and I have been to lots of bowls.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Tomorrow the low in Auburn is suppose to be 14F. I don't know if that is after midnight tonight or tomorrow night, but I would definitely want to have some kind of heat on.

    ReplyDelete
  165. Wow, I would have thought they would have wanted to get Bo in the stadium and get an interview with him, or at least some pics. Strange.

    ReplyDelete
  166. Steve, please don't tell me it is going to be that cold. The online Weather Channel says 23 is going to be the lowest over the next 48 hours. I think we might be ok if that is the low, but I don't think the condo pipes will handle 14 with no heat. May have to make a trip to Auburn tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  167. I just recognized the ref - SEC! No wonder they made the bad call on the punt. I'm surprised it hasn't been worse.

    ReplyDelete
  168. Anonymous9:25 PM

Cincy ....you're an end unit which isn't good. Do you have any plumbing on outside wall? If not, you're probably OK for tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  169. Yep, washer, water line to fridge and one bathroom are all on outside walls. Last weekend it was down to 30 degrees, we didn't have any heat on and it stayed right at 66 degrees inside. Son is out of town, in-laws still in Tampa. Oh well, can't worry about it now.

    ReplyDelete
  170. Here is where I saw the 14F.

    ReplyDelete
  171. Thank you so much, Steve. Tonight it looks like it will be mid 20's. Tomorrow night it will be 14. We are going to head to Auburn first thing in the morning. You'd think my engineer son would be smart enough to leave the heat on. Guess when he left last week it wasn't that cold.

    ReplyDelete
  172. Some thermostats have an emergency setting. If not, I would just put the heat on its lowest setting and leave it like that.

Things that make me chuckle..oh look here is one...

“The first thing I want to do is apologize to about 30,000 Gamecocks who came here to see a football game, and we couldn’t put one on,” he said. “I thought we were ready to play. But obviously our offense was very sad and our defense wasn’t as good as it’s been most of the time. We thoroughly got beat by a better team, a better disciplined team.”

    ReplyDelete
  174. You are welcome Cincy, I hope I am not concerning you over nothing, but I have had to clean up after burst pipes, and I will take a long car trip any day.

    ReplyDelete
  175. Anonymous9:40 PM

    So says Ball Coach...

    Current Baltimore Temp. 19F

    ReplyDelete
  176. Cincy, we have put a programable thermostat on our condo in auburn so we don't have to worry about what the kids will remember to do! Just getting them to lock the door is major!

    ReplyDelete
  177. AU1, is that a Spurrier quote? I assume he is getting sick of this. Every year USCe seems to start off pretty good but then flounder like a fish out of water at the end. After the victory over Clempson, I was thinking this year was different.

    ReplyDelete
  178. Good idea, WEG. Usually there wouldn't be a problem, but he went to Huntsville to visit friends for New Years and I'm sure didn't think about it getting so cold while he was gone. He said they haven't had the heat on at all this year and the temp inside hasn't gone below 65. So I'm hoping this means it is well insulated. But it will be worth 1 1/2 over there to make sure.

    ReplyDelete
  179. Hey gang, just got back to the ATL about 30 mins ago...took a quick drive to Orlando post-game, met up with some family. The jaunt home today took the better part of 9 hours, way too long IMO.

I'm surprised I'm still alive after the game. To the Hotties in the section, I arrived 10 mins before kickoff but the ladies in my group wanted to move up to sit under the bleachers, so it went. We'll have to try and get together again next year when the timeline isn't so tight.

    ReplyDelete
  180. I would also like to apologize to everyone who played pickem and assumed I would participate. I thought I would participate, but it has become glaringly apparent that I am not.

    ReplyDelete
  181. Anonymous9:45 PM

Steve - Yes it is. It was on the front page of Yahoo.

    ReplyDelete
  182. I think I'm glad I skipped pickem for the bowl season. I started off so well in the regular season and went to heck in a hand basket.

    ReplyDelete
  183. Rime to crash! Can't wait for a new year of tiger football!! Good night Hotties! Stay warm!

    ReplyDelete
  184. So, did Spurrier take responsibility, or did he just apologize for his wayward children?

    ReplyDelete
  185. OK, we're too close to not flip it.

    ReplyDelete
  186. You were my pills.

    ReplyDelete
  187. You were my thrills.

    ReplyDelete
  188. You were the one for me.

    ReplyDelete
  189. You dropped a bomb on me.

    ReplyDelete
  190. Well, surprise, surprise. Just called Tylerson to tell him we were heading to Auburn tomorrow to turn on heat. He said he would cut his trip short and go back to Auburn tomorrow to take care of it. They do grow up and get responsible!!

    ReplyDelete
  191. You dropped a bomb on me.
