Malzahn likes Auburn

Hey everyone. My friend Charles Goldberg, he of immense Internet fame at The Gold Mine, is reporting that Gus Malzahn has told Louisiana Tech intermediaries that he's not interested in that job.

I didn't pay much attention to this after he reportedly was in Ruston, La., last weekend ... while I saw him at the AU-UK basketball game. That generally means he isn't interviewing.

Anyway, here's what Malzahn had to say:

``My family and I love Auburn and being part of the Auburn Family. Coach Chizik is an outstanding coach to work for and Auburn is a great place to be both professionally and personally. I’m excited about the future of this program and helping Auburn build on the foundation that Coach Chizik has established during the last 13 months.”

So that's one less rumor to worry about. Right?

The 22 limit this year is the number he can have enroll. It is a NCAA imposed penalty for not having a high enough API. He can sign 28, like everyone else, but only 22 will be able to enroll in the fall.; 1:25 PM

In Virginia it's Lee-Jackson Day. Virginia treasures and preserves it's history more than any state I'm familiar with. You can't go more than a few miles with encountering a historical marker, usually colonial or civil war. Lee and Jackson are still seen here by many Virginians (as opposed to the yankees occupying portions of it) as heroic native sons who did their best to defend her in her darkest hour. Any politician who tried to do away with the holiday would not make it to the next election day before being removed.

Similarly, no politician would consider combining MLK day with a holiday celebrating 2 Confederate heroes. I think this situation is likely to hold for another century or so before things fade.

I'm not sure but I believe another state holiday was done away with to compensate, much like Washington and Lincoln's birthdays were combined to Presidents' Day to allow for the Federal MLK day.; 5:12 PM
