Nuggets from The Football Coach

Hey everyone. Gene Chizik stopped by for a minutes to speak with reporters about various issues related to football.

Here's a basic rundown.
  • DE Cameron Henderson is off the team. He is not in school. That's a wrap. To make a nebulous story clear, he became cross-ways of the coaching staff last summer and his road to redemption, as it were, was mighty narrow.

  • LB Spencer Pybus, LB Adam Herring and OT Vance Smith will not return to the field. Ever. They have been dealing with chronic medical issues. ``Those are three great, great kids who love football," Chizik said. ``You have to look at what your quality of life is going to be 30 years from now. Medically, it was their decision to stop playing."

  • Chizik said he has not been contacted by Louisiana Tech or any other school regarding offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn. A few LTU websites reported that Malzahn was interviewing there today, but he's attending the Auburn-Kentucky basketball game.

  • Chizik on his staff: ``I've talked to all of our assistant coaches. My goal is being able to keep all of our coaching staff in tact. There has been no official contact that I know about. I fully anticipate having our staff fully back together."

  • Chizik said S Aairon Savage has applied for a sixth season of eligibility. He has missed the past two years because of leg injuries. Former DL Tez Doolittle made the same appeal for the same problems two years ago and was granted the sixth season. He found out in March.

I happened to hear a interview with Kiffin on the Jim Rome show this week, that guy is pure slimeball.

I was really disappointed in Rome for not hammering him, as much as I don't care for the guy he normally will grill someone when they deserve it, and often times when they don't.

Thought AU played bravely today. I was in section 29 with all UK fans around me. Reed played his best half all year in the 2nd half, under control, really D'd up Wall all game. Lebo made a nice adjustment running the O through the big men at the top. It opened lanes. Pulling the bigs away for dribble drives.

Tough loss, but I got my monies worth.

whew, just watch south alabama beat troy in basketball at the buzzer here in mobile. I must say before our new building next year south has the nicest arena in the state.

Yea, yea, I saw Ashley Judd. Not impressed. Now if Winona was there, then thats another story, singing love can build a bridge, then maybe I am really impressed.

I like Lebo but he doesnt survive the year. We shoot ourselves in and out of the game. What recruits are worth damn? Johnnie Lett? we have no depth or inside force. Knox should get a medal of honor for the production he gets with the talent God gave him. We might be the worst team in the league. Who is worse?

Glad no coaches are leaving. Tech is not a job Malzahn wants. Good to see Chizik at the game.

Guys not coming back

1. Pybus-hate it, from my hometown and alma mater. But word on the street back home was he had multiple concussions and had side effects. These days thats a no go on the field. So him I understand.

2. Herring-Jay, whats his deal. He recovered from the heel thing then he played, alot this year, middle of the year. Then he gets hurt again never to be heard from again. Was it the same injury. Yea, he and Pybus are also linebackers so no help there.

3. Vance Smith-Signed as a tight end then moved the line and was being beefed up. Was 2nd string. Never heard a peep of him didnt see him play wonder what his injury was.

4. Cam Henderson - So long, never knew ya.

5. Aaron Savage-I would love to see him make a run at it. He could teach those young guys alot.

6. Jay, did I just see you say that Tim Hawthorne is going to North Alabama? weird.

Frankie Sullivan asks for more help from Auburn fans:

"Our fans don't support us like that all the time," Sullivan said. "I wish they would. It brings a lot of energy. It turns me on. I'm ready to play every game, but the crowd just gives you a boost like an energy drink. Hopefully, they come out more, we really need it."

10:56 PM
Blogger patdyeswildturkey said...

frankie sullivan, god bless him he tries. He needs to look for a power forward in the crowd more than filling the seats.

10:57 PM

I think it would be nice, though, if this team could get just half the support they got tonight.

They still won't be good, but it might help them win a couple of more games.

chicken and the egg syndrome.....

if they won more, people would show up...
if people showed up... they might play harder and win more...

It doesn't help any that the coach doesn't show any interest in trying to sell his team to the fanbase in order to garner more interest...

11:03 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

Not gonna disagree there about Lebo rallying the fan base. He's failed miserably.

But if Auburn football sucked, there would still be at least 70,000 people in the stadium on a Saturday, regardless of what the coach had done to cultivate support.

I realize football is always gonna be bigger at Auburn. I'm okay with that.

But we seriously can't get just 5,000 people to show up for a basketball game once a week or so, regardless of how good they are or how much the coach has done to rally the fans?
