Playing the Star game

Hey everyone. So Rivals.com is in the midst of making its final re-assessments prior to National Signing Day and Auburn has been affected (slightly) by a few of these re-assessments.

OK, so OT Shon Coleman finished his season in November as a four-star prospect. Rivals.com's experts have bumped him to a five-star guy. By all accounts, he played well at the U.S. Army All-American game, so maybe that's why he's "better" now.

Another OT commitment, Ed Christian, today lost one of his stars. He's now a three-star prospect. His season ended in November as well. Christian played in the North/South All-Star game earlier this month. Maybe he was terrible?

Word inside Rivals.com is that LB commitment Jake Holland, he of Pelham fame, has been identified as a "riser" by experts inside the organization and will be bumped from his current perch (three star) to a higher, four-star perch in the coming days.

His season ended in November as well. Maybe he improved dramatically during the Christmas holiday?

EDIT: Rivals.com also is planning to bump DE commit Kenneth Carter to a four-star prospect in the coming days. The organization is making the changes on a position-by-position basis.

The whole deal looks odd to me.

I have been rethinking the Jeff Lebo thing.

I am not on the bandwagon, but I think they give him two more years. He was hamstrung the first 5 years or so with the recruiting limitations from AD or whomever that did not allow association with the AAU guy in AL. This class does stink, but the coming class is much better and he can prolly win with bigger players. For now I am willing to let him stay, but if they STINK it up the rest of the season my opinion could change.

well, the Rivals stars updated last night, and we're oh so close to the Bammers. I honestly don't see how we aren't ahead of them--we have 1 more 5 star recruit, only 2 less 4 star recruits, but 5 more 3 star recruits. We both only have 1 recruit under 3 stars--and ours is supposedly the top punter in the nation.

It doesn't really matter, but it's fun to beat the Bammers in anything.

8:40 AM
Blogger Seanzie said...

I wouldn't be so hard on Lebo if the team looked like they were taught the fundamentals well, played the game with good strategy and discipline and generally gave good effort, to me that would be a decent indicator that the guy is a good coach and has just been hamstrung by recruiting limitations.

That said, the team played well enough last night.

8:41 AM

I'm still not a fan of Lebo and think Auburn would be better off without him. Of course, I've made this known several times. He cannot even keep the kids he does recruit on the team.

Thanks, Hotties! MrsTHT and I will be going to Richmond on Saturday to visit.

Rumors yesterday of some "good news" today on recruiting front. Anyone hear more on that? Since Lattimore and Lemonier won't be announcing until Feb., that leaves Whitaker, Jones, and/or who else? Who knows, maybe Lache is back in the fold! No, that can't be it since Lache isn't on (wtc) Mom's list. I don't want Ambles if if it could scare Reed away. What are y'all thinking?

8:44 AM
Blogger Seanzie said...

THT, the Ambles thing will not affect Reed. They will be playing different positions in this offense. The Ambles thing has more to do with Richardson being a NQ than with Reed.

8:46 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

THT- The rumor yesterday was Ambles and obviously was not true. As far as scaring Reed away, he appears to be by all accounts rock solid. The rumor around now is that Jeremy Richardson will not qualify and that is why we are going after Ambles. Who knows till signing day.

Reed haad a visit from Les Miles and an Assistant coach at his school yesterday for 2 hours. Miles was supposed to have an in home last night. Reed's coach is a BIGTIME LSu guy and is pimping LS U to him. The Reed has made no comments. His coach thinks LSU is making in roads. I am not worried about him going somewhere else. This visit is just a courtesy call. LSU lost it's only 2 WR commits over thelast two weeks and they are pushing hard for Reed to stay home.

Tiger coaches visit with Lattimore
By Phil Kornblut

Auburn offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn and running backs coach Curtis Luper met with Byrnes RB Marcus Lattimore Wednesday. They first met with Lattimore at his school and later met with him and family at his house. USC coaches are due to meet with him Friday. The head coaches will be in next week (Chizik on 28th, Spurrier on 30th). Lattimore is choosing between Auburn and USC and remains undecided at this point. He will announce at his church February 2nd.

and from an article By Kevin Melton on that same web site...

Byrnes running back Marcus Lattimore says the official announcement on where he will play college football will take place at 6 p.m. Feb. 2 at Silver Hill Memorial United Methodist Church and is open to the public.

most were recruited early in the time of tubby (2000-2002) when he gave a damn before jetgate.

You guys are all the recruiting stuff. Mom may take a break. Who knew AU fans would be interested in recruiting?

The only recruit I am now thinkng may switch is DJHoward. He thinks becasue AU Undercover wrote an article that AU thinks he would be a very good DB, that the coaches will make him play DB, even after they met with him and told him he would be a RB. He actually said that.

11:02 AM
Blogger wtc said...

In two weeks we'll know for sure but even if we didn't add but one or two more, this would still be an excellent class.

11:09 AM

CHip-I agree. Also, if this results in improved performance on the field, look for the class to fill up sooner in 2010.
Look at Tx. They fill up VEYR fast each year. They may have 10-15 recruits committed for 2010 (next year) before this current semester is over.

My heart is broken. We were supposed to go to Nashville this weekend to see our daughter and son-in-law. His parents were also coming. We have done this in the past and thought it was just a weekend for us all to get together. My son-in-law just called to tell me they were going to share the news of a baby, but they miscarried this morning.

I can't believe the overwhelming grief I am feeling. But, God is good, all the time, and He doesn't make mistakes. I would really love it if you would pray for them (and me).

Cincy ... you can count on it, but more importantly, you can count on Him.

It often confounds us that the rain falls on the just and the unjust. It's a reminder to us that this world is not our home.

May the peace of God that surpasses all understanding envelope you and your family.

Cincy,

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I think a lot of people would be surprised at the anguish that comes with a miscarriage.

Prayers for you and your family.

I was a Sega Genesis guy. I loved Sonic 2, Prime Time football starring Deion Sanders, NBA Jams, California games and so many more.

I've always been behind the 8 ball on video games since then. I don't play enough to justify spending the money. I'm currently still playing the PS2, although I'm really wanting a 360 right now, for one game in particular.

My greatest moment came when playing Super Mario Bros with some friends. Got down to the last confrontation against Bowser with a bunch of extra lives, but ended of losing all of them and was down to my final man, and Mario had already been shrunk to little mario size no less.

Well, Bowser went for the final killer blow, but I magically did some sort of ninja pirouette to dodge and landed the killer blow myself to win the game. It was awesome.

Pure jubilation followed. I use to wonder what it felt like to win a big time sporting event.

Not after that day.

Video games? A buddy of mine was an expert in Intellivision.

ninja pirouette...I've done those many a time...just yesterday in MW2 I ran into an enemy spawn point, spun around and just kept shooting and somehow survived.

Lemme rephrase that, he was an expert against me at Intellivision

2:48 PM
Blogger Scott Chocolate said...

Cincy, prayers definitely sent. I just taught a Sunday school class last week, and one of my topics was "Why does God allow suffering?". It was actually more of me leading a discussion than providing any answers (because no one really knows), but I think that the answer is something along the lines of what Jet said in the 2nd paragraph of his 1:43 post. There's a line that's non-Biblical (from "Lord of the Rings", I believe), but I think very Christian in nature, where someone asks "Is everything sad going to come untrue?". I think that will be the case in Heaven.

2:49 PM
Blogger Seanzie said...

What is intellivision?

2:49 PM
Blogger michael said...

I agree with ehyou. You guys are a bunch of idiots.

Genesis was soooo much better than SNES by the way, and you are a nerd if you say otherwise. Hope you like your MK without blood! HA!!!

As recently as Junior year of college, I could still beat the first Mario Bros in under 10 minutes.

My video game playing days were over when I got married. I bought SOCOM Navy Seals 2 right before I got married and had the PS2 online modem going and everything. The wife didn't like me spending all that time playing video games. It just wasn't worth it anymore, and the game just turned out to be a waste of money. Haven't bought a video game or gaming system since.

2:52 PM
Blogger michael said...

To jump in on the Christian view of suffering, God's answer to Job is amazing. One of the best passages in the Bible. I suggest you read Job if you ever ask yourself, "Why did this happen to me?"

Blogger michael said...

I shouldn't say "one of the best", I should say "one of my favorite"

I said I wasn't going to buy a game system, until i got my 72" tv in my man cave. Then I just had to. Plus it has blu-ray and streams Netflix movies. My wife said if i bought this stuff I better use it. I think she sees her error now

2:54 PM
Blogger ehyou said...

Intellivision had that crazy paddle controller with a number pad on it.

2:54 PM
Blogger Scott Chocolate said...

On a much less serious note, three things:

I wonder why Intellivision never took off?

Pitfall (Activision game on Atari) was addictive. Somebody mentioned that one earlier. Haven't thought about that in a long time.

The year we were supposed to get Atari for Christmas, Santa forgot to bring it. My brother and I were being nice and trying not to say anything when my mom got a funny look on her face and ran back to her bedroom. Somehow, Atari had magically ended up on the top shelf of her bedroom closet.

2:55 PM
Blogger Wakeriderof87 said...

Harrison, that was a rookie mistake on her part and you HATE to see that.
