Playing the Star game

Hey everyone. So Rivals.com is in the midst of making its final re-assessments prior to National Signing Day and Auburn has been affected (slightly) by a few of these re-assessments.

OK, so OT Shon Coleman finished his season in November as a four-star prospect. Rivals.com's experts have bumped him to a five-star guy. By all accounts, he played well at the U.S. Army All-American game, so maybe that's why he's "better" now.

Another OT commitment, Ed Christian, today lost one of his stars. He's now a three-star prospect. His season ended in November as well. Christian played in the North/South All-Star game earlier this month. Maybe he was terrible?

Word inside Rivals.com is that LB commitment Jake Holland, he of Pelham fame, has been identified as a "riser" by experts inside the organization and will be bumped from his current perch (three star) to a higher, four-star perch in the coming days.

His season ended in November as well. Maybe he improved dramatically during the Christmas holiday?

EDIT: Rivals.com also is planning to bump DE commit Kenneth Carter to a four-star prospect in the coming days. The organization is making the changes on a position-by-position basis.

The whole deal looks odd to me.

With regard to Seastrunk, I mentioned him as a duck several times. A few months back I heard LSU backed off after they got a couple of other running back commits. Also, Seastrunk has been one of those that are dropping in terms of opinion. I can't recall where I read that, but I believe they mentioned concerns with how he holds the ball to loose.

THT, read the link you posted on DJ Howard. It really sounds like he has his heart set on playing running back. If that is so, he really should head to Clempson.

6:05 PM

Miss St has concluded their internal investigation and admits that "student-athletes" took some recruits to the strip club. MSU says that while this is a violation of university rules, they don't think that any NCAA rules were broken.

Back in the day ....this was routine behavior. funny how today's society embraces many things that earlier generations abhored, yet picks certain items to allow no tolerance.

6:15 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

I would tend to agree, SteveFC.

6:17 PM
Blogger Michael Seale said...

If we get lattimore in addition to dyer (not to mention onterio, dontae, and eric) i don't see much room at the position for dj howard

6:28 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

We could definitely use two RB in this class, possibly 3, but the 3rd will likely be destined for splinters.

By the way, thanks Michael. I checked out that burger game and now I will have nightmares of being chased by giant pickles.

6:39 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

Now, if DJ Howard thinks RB is his road to the NFL and he is that good, he should try to beat out some of the running backs we will have. It is possible. It is just hard to see.

On the other hand, I want DBs with the DB mentality. I want DBs that love the thought of separating the player from the ball or his head for that matter. I consider DB a different mentality than running back.

I may be wrong, but I doubt D.J. Howard=Bo Jackson and Dyer (or Lattimore)=Alan Evans.

6:53 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

You never know when a Jackson or Evans will show up. Clempson wants Howard as their primary RB recruit. It could just be because they are Clempson, but they have to see something in him.

It is kinda funny that we went from saying stars mean nothing to all of a sudden thinking a 3 star has no prayers of seeing the field.

I'm seeing "hints" that there may be a "recruiting coordinator" helping Seastrunk. I think that is our answer as to why we backed off. Howard and Reed will not be going anywhere.

this is old news, so sorry if I missed it earlier on HABOTN, but just in case...

from KWTX.com (Waco, TX) ---

TEMPLE (January 15, 2010)--Temple High running back and 5-star national recruit Lache Seastrunk will announce his college choice on Wednesday January 27th.

Seastrunk will declare where he will play his college football at 4:15 p.m. in a ceremony inside of Temple High School's new gymnasium.

According to Rivals.com, Seastrunk is considering and has offers from Auburn, LSU, Oregon, Baylor, California, Florida, Miami, Nebraska, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M, UCLA, and USC.

However, Rivals.com says Seastrunk has "high interest" in only LSU, Auburn, and Oregon.

7:16 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

If some think Howard better suited for DB, it very well be. He could turn out better than Dyer or Lattimore. You never know. But if I were him and wanting to be a running back, I think I would head to Clempson where there won't be near as much competition.

7:17 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

On the lighter side, did everyone see the guy escorted from American Idol in handcuffs? Now that is quality TV viewing.

7:18 PM
Blogger Wakeriderof87 said...

I think its funny that we are constantly listed as one of Seastrunk, yet everyone in the know says we haven't even talked to him in months. It will be the best story ever if somehow he signs with us.

7:24 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

Crootin season is interesting, but winning in crootin season doesn't necessarily mean willing at football. For instance, it is highly likely that some of our recruits will never actually make it to the field. It is the nature of the beast.

That isn't to say I wouldn't enjoy beating Bama at crootin. When it comes to beating Bama, any competition will do, unless it involves a mullet.

Hello hotties. Been lurking, catching up. Off subject, but I'm sick of Charter Cable. Thinking of getting Dish Network. Anyone have it and how is it. Mainly want to know two things.

All channels are digital, so is standard picture better than analog over cable. I'm thinking for sure.
How bad does the weather have to be before you lose your picture.

7:46 PM

Sponge, I had Dish at one time and the weather was rarely a problem. Back then the channel selection wasn't what I would have liked, though. I like cable.

7:48 PM

It is interesting watching Dyer, because of the big 3, he looks the least like a prototypical runningback. He looks too husky to move so fast, but he does. I think he will be something special.

7:49 PM
Blogger Spongeworthy said...

Plenty of channels now. So anyone else have issues w/ weather on satellite networks?

7:51 PM

Sponge, I'm making the to satellite change soon and based on where we live, Direct TV had better packages for what we watch.

Our lakehouse and our inlaws have satellite and normally the storm has to get so bad in order to kill the signal that you should turn off the TV anyway.
