MSU women def. Auburn, 73-58

Hey everyone. Hope your Sunday is going well.

I will be LIVE BLOGGING the women's game (Auburn vs. MSU) beginning around 2 p.m. This will be a Cover It Live-type situation.

Most of you are not into women's hoops and that's fine, too.

I'll be available to talk about a somewhat wide variety of topics, though I will be watching the women's game. Come soak it all in. This is a dress rehearsal for A New Era In HABOTN Game Coverage.

Love,
jgt

It's bad when you walk out to check the mail and your eyes water and your nose runs. I hate this type cold weather unless there is white stuff on the ground...which there is not!

Yeah, when the high is 31 and it's the first day back in the office in a couple of weeks it makes it really hard to get out of bed.

Running outside yesterday was miserable to begin with but got better at the end of the 5 mile run. I get way too cold too easily. I'm cold right now in the office and several others think it is burning up. Oh well.

It's 63 degrees in my office right now. That's a might nippy for sitting still. The space heater behind my desk is broken, so I'm thinking I'll be visiting Home Depot or Lowe's this week.

I think CH=B posted something this weekend about the NW team leaving the group team breakfast after talking smack with our guys. I wonder if that was just a semi-vicious rumor. I wonder why I care about all this after the game's been over for three days.

Forgot to mention that I sat a couple of rows back from Nosa Eguae on my flight back from TPA. The guy sitting next to him asked him if he was excited about AU getting Cam Newton. Nosa grinned and said, "Oh yeah! That guy is a beast."

Surprising - AU's Frankie Sullivan leads the SEC in FT percentage.

At the game, after Kodi threw those two INTs, I was so mad and said that he better not ever be allowed to pass again. After watching the game again yesterday, I agree with Jet. Although, the first pass was underthrown, the second pass was good - the DB just made a fantastic play. BUT, I do agree that his role needs to be re-evaluated.

Tar Heel, is that your wife or 2.0 in your avatar? I ask because you don't look old enough to be that woman's father.

Jet, you have mail.

Scott Chocolate, Harris Gaston was on our plane on the way back to Bham. There were only 5 or 6 people at the gate in Memphis, but of course, I didn't talk to him - I'm too shy to talk to a Hottie when I see one(I saw Kathy in the hotel lobby in Baton Rouge)! Actually, we didn't know what his name was until I looked it up in a program when we got home!

2:04 PM
Blogger Seanzie said...

I'm with you, Luv. Normally I'm a social guy but around famous or somewhat-famous people I tend to clam up. i.e. I had a class with Courtney Taylor. He sat in the same seat in front of me all semester, I think I talked to him once and it was because he asked me about homework.

I also got a chance to meet Norm Chow and I had the opportunity to tell him exactly what I thought of his 2004 USC team and blew it.

2:12 PM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

Luv,

I'll admit that the two interceptions Kodi threw were good plays by the D...however history has shown anytime you let Kodi put the ball in the air there is a risk of the play not going our way.

He struggles making routine passes, asking him to throw the ball from 30 yards down field and 45 across it is just asking for someone to get in position to pick it off.

2:15 PM
Blogger michael said...

People are scared to talk to me too. I don't think it's because I am famous, though. I think it's because of the bear mask I wear all the time.

2:16 PM
Blogger Seanzie said...

Aren't you supposed to scream and charge at bears...?

2:17 PM
Blogger michael said...

Maybe that works on bears. I don't know what you are supposed to do when you meet a naked man wearing a bear mask. In my experience, other people don't know either.

2:19 PM
Blogger LuvAU41 said...

Sean, Kathy isn't famous and I was still too shy to talk to her! LOL

I still can't believe I talked to Todd Blackledge in the hotel lobby in Knoxville!

Blogger LuvAU41 said...

One of the women at the gate asked us if we lived in Bham (or something like that. I wasn't really paying attention) and my friend told her we were on our way back from the Outback Bowl in Tampa. She asked, "Did Auburn win?" My friend told her that they had and the woman responded, "But they still can't be Alabama." My friend looked at her dumbfounded and said, "Excuse me? Do you not remember that Auburn beat Alabama 6 years in a row?" The woman said something else about not being able to beat Alabama and I said, "OMG. You can't even have a friendly conversation in an airport with the Alabama arrogance coming out."

2:23 PM
Blogger michael said...

Luv, I am wearing a bear mask under the box.

2:24 PM
Blogger Scott Chocolate said...

Luv, there was another AU player on the plane with us, too. I couldn't recognize him due to the bear mask, though. ;) Actually, I didn't recognize him without the bear mask, either. Somebody said he was a walk-on. Anyway, I said "War Eagle!" to him when we got off the plane. I didn't talk to Nosa, as everybody around him on the plane was talking to him. I did try to eavesdrop, though!

My group had a wager on who would be the first to see a Bammer wearing Bammer gear at the Outback Bowl. I thought I had it after seeing one in the bathroom about five minutes after entering the stadium. I came out and said, "I win!" My brother said , "Nope", and pointed to one that he had seen right when I left. What are Bammers thinking when they do that?

2:31 PM
Blogger michael said...

I had a class with Cadillac once. You had to walk up to the roll sheet taped to the wall and mark next to your name to show you attended. Caddy's name was marked present every time. I won't say whether or not I ever actually saw him there.

2:32 PM
Blogger Scott Chocolate said...

MJT - marked present when you walked up or right after you walked away?

2:33 PM
Blogger michael said...

Hehe... I'm innocent judge. Though I won't say whether or not I signed for my friends or my friends signed for me on other occasions. Alas, Caddy was not my friend.

2:36 PM
Blogger LuvAU41 said...

Scott Chocolate, I will never understand why bammers go to Auburn games. The ONLY game I will go to in which Alabama is playing is when they play Auburn! There were a few about 3 rows behind us. But, when the guy went to the bathroom he wrapped an Auburn blanket around him...

2:38 PM
Blogger Scott Chocolate said...

I may have mentioned this before, but I had a class with Luvell Bivins (who failed to keep Greg Richardson in-bounds when tackling him right before the Van Tiffin kick). I rarely talked to the football players in my classes at AU, but I ended up sitting by him in my first class back after that IB. I actually asked him why he couldn't keep Richardson in-bounds. To his credit, he didn't punch me in the face. He just smiled and said, "I tried, man".

2:39 PM
Blogger Scott Chocolate said...

There are probably AU fans at Bammer games for various reasons, but I'll bet the majority of them go incognito.

2:42 PM
Blogger Seanzie said...

I was at Indian Pines one time and John Vaughn was in the foursome behind me. The group behind him had some ruffians in them. As we were leaving the tee box, I heard one of them say..."hey whatcha want to bet he hits 5 balls, 2 to the left, 2 to the right and I bet that last one bangs off that there tree!"

*Disclaimer: I edited his quote for content.

2:44 PM
Blogger michael said...

I will say that since it is a bowl game, it is not quite as bad to have bama fans since many locals will make their way to such a game just because it is there. I went to a few Liberty Bowls caring zero about either of the teams just because it was something to do.

2:44 PM
Blogger LuvAU41 said...

Yeah, there was a couple that got on the plane in front of us going to Tampa - the woman was an Auburn fan and the husband, a bammer. Husband or not, I would have to ask someone that was an Auburn fan to go with me or I would make him wear something neutral. Who am I kidding? I could never marry a bammer! (no offense, Kathy!)

I'll go with Bolt. But if it is like 20 yards or so, I imagine Johnson has a shot.

3:10 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

Bolt won the 100m and the 200m.

Could probably win the 400m

I love Chris, but he'd have no shot.

3:11 PM
Blogger Seanzie said...

I mean we're talking 40-50 yards here to clarify, not 100-200m.

3:12 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

I'm more inclined to give CJ a shot over 10-20 yards b/c Bolt's supposed weakness (by his own admission) is starting, but the guy is freak.

Over 40-50 yards, Bolt still takes him over though.

Any chance of this happening?

3:16 PM
Blogger Scott Chocolate said...

Luv, what day/time did you fly out of B'ham? I'm wondering if I saw the same couple.

I might wear an AU cap to a bowl game in which AU wasn't playing, but not if Bammer were playing in it. That's just too obnoxious for me.

3:19 PM

E-Bro, that doesn't really rate on the obnoxious scale, in my opinion. If you did it at an LSU or UGA game, then maybe. If you did it in Tuscaloosa, then you'd absolutely rate. To me, it's all about intent, and I know the Bammers wear their stuff to Auburn games just to piss off AU fans.

3:35 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

SC...thanks for the judgment call. I was actually wearing the shirt b/c it had the color orange in it.

Okay THT,

Since the potty has been my new best friend for the past four days I missed what happened to you. What in the world did you do to yourself????? All I know is you messed up your shoulder.

Recouping from surgery and getting sick is not fun either. Maybe I can make you feel a little better! In one jaunt to the potty in the wee hours of the morn on New Years Day (and I swear I was stone cold sober), I got up too fast, passed out, fell flat on my face onto ceramic tile, woke up who knows when later and because I still cannot talk I could not get hubby's attention. I even tried beating on the wall, to no avail. I literally crawled back to the bed.

A knot on my head, a bruised and bloody nose have now been added to the lovely slit across my throat. I am a sight for sore eyes.

PS: hubby feels kinds bad!

I'm sorry you have had such a rough go at recovery. Your surgery was enough without adding all the other.

You can use hubby not hearing you to quite an advantage. A few years ago I got food poisoning and got sick during the night. My hubby didn't know until several hours later when he found me dehydrated and almost unconscious on the bathroom floor. After a trip to the emergency room it seems like a nice piece of jewelry came out of that experience. :) He felt so bad, even though he really shouldn't have. But I accepted the gift nonetheless.

AU's not in that situation, though. It's not like they're asking someone to come play on a blue field, and the $$ should be a little more equal between AU and other BCS schools than BSU and BCS schools.

8:36 PM
Blogger wtc said...

They are not in that situation. i just like the idea of playing anyone on a home and home basis or a 1 time on a neutral site. To get the respect you have be willing to go and play those games. I hope the big picture for AU is to get the players in and then start scheudling bigger games.

Are you saying that WVU and Clemson aren't enough or something?

What happened to the return game with USF? Did we pay them off, or is that still scheduled for a couple of years from now?

8:42 PM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

TCU just got robbed robbed robbed with that penalty.

8:43 PM

We've got a home and home with Clemson the next two years, which is a nice series.

Do we open up at home with Clemson? Or go there?

I heard the Caudle report/rumor earlier today as well...

Supposedly his father did say that Neil will compete for the Starting gig during the Spring.

Since Neil is scheduled to graduate in May... it is of my opinion that if (when?) he does not win the gig, he either transfers to somewhere for his senior year of eligibility while getting his master's... or he rides off into the sunset after he graduates a la Timmy Hawthorne.

What say ye, WTC?

8:47 PM
Blogger Jet said...

That's a big play before halftime.

Blogger wtc said...

I think playing WVU and Clemson is OK. I would liked to see games with Penn Sate, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and he like.
From an image standpoint, theyu have more prestige. beating them will get you more recognition than beating WVU or Clemson. Honestly, other than this year, what has Clemson done. They remond me a lot of Ole Miss. uJust can;t handle the lime light.

8:49 PM
Blogger wtc said...

Dmiller-I heard the same thing today. In fact I called my guys in AU tonight and asked about the rumor and they said the same thing you said. If he doesn;t get the #1 spot in the spring, he wil probably transfer out or just graduate and go on with life.

Good post Dmiller.

I am fine with a BCS opponent each year, but playing more than one is crazy.

8:52 PM
Blogger Norm said...

Did The Frogs recently change their uni's and gear too or am I just now noticing it? Either way, the helmets look like bowling balls.

Blogger Jet said...

TCU is wearing those hideous Nike prototypes.

The uniform folks are screwing with college sports, and I don't like it.

8:54 PM
Blogger Miller said...

I'd like to see AU play F$U again...

I'd love a home/home with Notre Dame or Penn St. or Michigan.
I would have liked the home/home with UCLA...

Those type games getting AU some press in regions that aren't natural press regions for AU would be beneficial.

Even though we lost to USC in 02/03, playing them gave us good exposure and I think good experience that really payed off heading into the 04 season.

8:55 PM

Jet-0ne BCS opponenet per year is fine, just get a good one with a tradition to it so when you win the media takes notice.

Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

I agree...my sarcasm wasn't thick enough.

WVU and Clemson have had their moments, but they aren't big names consistently enough. I don't like a big 10 opponent, but would be thrilled with a Texas, Oklahoma, FSU, Miami, or Nebraska.

8:56 PM
Blogger Jet said...

I took a beating around here when I said I didn't want us to play UCLA next year when we already had Clemson on the schedule.

8:58 PM
Blogger Jet said...

Bottom line, both games with WVU were nationally televised in prime time.

I imagine both Clemson games will be, too.

We all want to play the Notre Dames, Oklahomas, Penn States, but it's clearly not the easiest thing in the world to schedule, and we (as fans) have to be mentally prepared to go 1-1 with the date at best.

BSU's band kinda sucks.

Blogger Norm said...

That cowbell chick looked absolutely thrilled to be there.

9:03 PM
Blogger wtc said...

I know you did Jet, and it was deserved at the time. We took it on the chin at the time for not taking that game. However,I willsay that in order to get a neitral site game, you are going to have to have that game and a home-home game with another BCS school becasue the neitral site game is usually made up only 1 year in advance.

9:04 PM
Blogger Jet said...

I hate to say it but we definitely needed less cowbell.

9:04 PM
Blogger Norm said...

From what I saw, they should have just kept the camera on the Drum Major girl. As long as they insist on showing us the bands, show us something decent.

9:06 PM
Blogger Jet said...

We don't need two BCS games in a year, especially debuting a brand new QB.

I was right. Like I always am. Soon as you get that straight, WTC, you'll be much better off.

9:06 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

After 2003 and 2007, I'm not inclined to play two BCS programs in a year, but I would have welcomed the UCLA matchup in ATL.

Good exposure.

I also think we're selling Clemson and WV short. When we scheduled WV, they were a pretty consistent Top Ten team.

Clemson has got a bit of a little man complex, but it's a solid school with solid tradition. Really should be doing better than they are with facilities and support they have.

After the game, two of Switzer's players shot 3 people, another was caught with $2.4 million in cocaine, and other one knocked over the NCO Club.

9:12 PM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

I know, Norm. Gimme Some Lovin' is nice.

Also, has BSU been using the same commercial for a few years, or have they been on TV enough this year for me to have it memorized?

9:14 PM
Blogger Norm said...

So Jet, given what we just saw Lt. J.J. Thomas say "it's just like Legion Field in Alabama" I guess that's not too far off track.

FSJ - it must be, Jet reported it earlier. And, as he also stated to WTC earlier, he's always right.

9:31 PM

FSJ ... UNC was without two contributors ... but C of C outscored the Heels something like 12-1 down the stretch and stayed ahead in the OT.

UNC hit one 3 pointer the whole game.
