Is there any news on the recruiting front? I am most concerned with offensive linemen. Eric Mack is someone we could really use for 2011.

Speaking of funny topics...I've seen some hilarious pictures of bama fans at the Wal-Mart with the BCS Championship Trophy. I think Bama probably asked if they could exchange the Crystal ball for high quality plastic one.

Seriously...they took that trophy to the Wal-mart to show it off. God truly has a sense of humor.

I can't help but marvel at the concept of taking the trophy to Walmart either. I wonder what places they turned down prior to choosing Walmart?

When we lived in Cincinnati, I had dinner with Kevin Walker, the player who hit Bo. He was good friends with our next door neighbor. He hated that he had ended someone's career. Nice guy, although I told him I hadn't forgiven him.

That play the ended Bo's career was a fluke. It seemed like a minor thing at the time. What I remember is a player hold onto Bo's leg to bring him down. There wasn't anything dirty or controversial about it. It was just unfortunate.

Eddie, I was tickled at Ocho's talking and then catching nothing, although I did see where he got injured in warmups before the game. He did make a bad mistake though. Brag about what you have done, not what you will do. He made himself look foolish.

To better AU's situation in Bball, honestly Lebo should bench several guys and play the younger ones. they will get beat, but they play with effort.

F.Sullivna is the best player with the most talent. Plays too fast at times and looks out of control sometimes. I think he could have matched the Downey kid today in scoring.
Lebo should try to run his offense through Sullivan instead of reed and Hargrove.

In Bball you can live with and usually overcome aggressive errors. But Hargrove takes slow clumsy errors to a new level. As a coach, i would have ZERO confidence in him with the game on the line.

8:22 PM

Steve nothing new lately, but we will finish with these six commits. Mack, Latt, Lemonier, Mack, b. jones and whittaker

Lebo will be there next year, I think. BBall is all about recruiting and he finally signed a decent class for next year. Bball is much deifferent than Fball. You only 2 players and your team can go very far. if have just one veyr good player and then some good one, you will be OK in the SEC. AU has none of the above.

WTC-great points. Sullivan is the only player we have with what I call a BB IQ. He knows the games and can play it really well, but for some reason we don't use him enough. On another team he would be a stud.

WTC- Regardless of a good class signing, I have no confidence he can keep players on the team. The guy loses 2 players a year it seems to things other than graduation. I just get sick trying to watch Auburn basketball now. I felt today was one of our best chances of winning in the SEC. Oh well.

RK- Nope. Credit to Tubs.

Jeff Lebo is a good basketball coach, but he's a horrid fit at Auburn. I've seen too many times where he's out X'd and O'd much better teams to say he's a bad coach.

He's recruited one significant player from in-state. And the chances he's taken on certain players have blown up on him. Everybody likes to talk about FT shooting, but that's all over college basketball.

He was the wrong hire. He'll do OK somewhere else, but not at Auburn. He's on his last legs, and I sense his players know this.

It's time to do something different.

My guess is that his North Carolina pedigree would serve him well at a Furman, a Rice or a Vandy.

I'm saying when he's taken chances on players it hasn't worked.

I'm saying he's never been an effective marketer of the program.

I'm saying he's a good bench coach, who now has few bullets in the gun and is left to having his team jack up 3s to try to be competitive.

I'm saying he's more suited at a different type of school.

Thanks Jet. I don't follow basketball much and I am under the impression that Lebo had some bad luck when he got to Auburn, but I have to agree that 5 years is enough. And there is a lot to be said for the environment being right for a coach. He might be very successful if he went to a school that where they traditionally got more talent and recruiting wasn't as difficult. I don't consider being the Auburn basketball coach to be an easy job at all.

Auburn baseball has been much more disappointing than basketball. Although I don't really follow either, at least baseball has a tradition of success. Basketball had some good times under Sonny Smith, but I don't remember many other than that.

By the way, I always remember what Sonny said when he left. When Pat Dye came, they bought him a house. When I came, they bought me a trailer and told me to not bother to take the wheels off. Yea, I am paraphrasing, but that was the jist of it.

Ok everyone it's a plan..next year we will meet up to see the 1st game at the new arena (anyone know the name?). We will all stay at Cincy's new condo..lol...

i like the fact that tubs is now brown's, stoops' etc. recruiting problem in tx. it may make it harder for AU to pull tx players, but it my drag those two down a notch by taking two or three good players away from them each year.
i guess he's going to inherit the tony franklin system of his dreams. what is the over/under on how many fewer passing yards the ttu qb has in 2010? 1000-1500?

i finally went and saw the blind side tonight and none of those coaches are where they were at the time of oher's recruitment or out of coaching all together. says it all about the business.

Steve-I think we will also target the Frazier kid who is pretty good also, but we really really want Driskel

I'm going to talk with mom. I'll check you guys later.

BTW-she said Tubbs was taaking one asssitant with him that was not coaching right now. I was thinking Ensminger.

Should Rollison earn the starting job, it might change things a lot. I really wish spring practice would get here and we would get an idea of where these QBs stand.

WTC ...

I gotta know ...

Does Mama think Tuberville is the debil?

9:21 PM

wtc, I was thinking Nall, but it could be Ensminger. I would think CTT would look more to taking a defensive coach with him, though. Our offensive staff and the spread seemed to be like oil and water.

do you think rice, furman and vandy would recruit better athletes if lebo was coach? i think not...they would be recruiting marginal talent projects if he maintained his track record.

i was hopeful when he was hired but it just hasn't worked out well and dude is as exciting as elwood blues' lunch order. i would like to see someone with a pulse run the team. hell, go buy some players and win some championships like the calipari model.

Oh, and staying at the condo sounds great - I just hope I don't still have 2 of them by then.

Somehow I don't think this spring will be like last season with regard to the QB race. Last season Trotter, Caudle, and Burns seemed tied most of spring practice. My guess is that Malzahn will narrow things quicker this time around.

Cincy, as you know I hurt my foot playing with the FAUWG tonight. I found some Naproxen in the cabinet. I can't remember why I have it, but I think it is for inflamation and pain?

Jet-She thinks Tubbs was looking to get out and this was the best way. He was tired of the management and felt he could stick it to them by laying down and then talking the cash. But that is just her opinion after talking to several others at AU that handle business with some of the old coaches and the current coaches.

I'm not a pharmacist either but one of my employer's divisions is the largest pharmaceutical distributor in the world. I'm in healthcare and can talk to you about servers and storage needs. It's pretty glamorous.

Chip ...

What I'm saying is that Jeff Lebo would identify better with the athletes typicaly recruited by those schools, and would be in a better position to coach them in the old school North Carolina style of down screens and back cuts rather than marginal academic kids like he recruits to Auburn that want to one on one and shake and bake.

9:26 PM
Blogger CHB said...

Newton will be the QB and we will all see why on April 17, 2010. I now I'll be there to wittness the brightest future of AU football since I have been around.

9:26 PM
Blogger stupup74 said...

Lebo had a decimated lineup his first two years. 5 guys transfered that first year. 3 ended up being all conference at their new schools. Lebo did pretty well in year 3, above .500 and 7-9 in the SEC with two wins vs. Bama and a SEC tourney win (i think). Remember in year 4 Dollard quit and Barber broke his hand, that gutted the inside, yet Auburn was competitive, not good, but competitive. (That was my favorite team, they played HARD.) Last year was the first time he had a full deck and he won 24 games and would have gone to the NCAA tourney if the UT had beaten MSU, or the media did not have it in for SEC basketball.

This year the team was due for a step back. Auburn is not Kentucky. Auburn has to rebuild, not reload. However Gabriel, Sulivan, Neysmith and Malone were all top 150 players at their positions in HS and all are sophs or freshman. Kemp Jr is top 150 and a true C.

Unless you can get a true upgrade, Lebo deserves a shot to coach in the new arena. His program is clean, and his pipeline is starting to fill up. He needs to keep some in state game changers at home, and maybe shake up the staff a bit, but I think the program is better than it was when he got there.

I personally thought he should have replaced Stallings at UA if we weren't going to go the Beamer route.

Yes. If it Naproxen Sodium 550 mg, you can take one every 12 hours. I would eat something, it tends to tweak my tummy. I think it is the best anti-inflammatory, pain reliever you can get.

s74- you make some good points and some that I have made the past 6 years, but the bottom line is that after 6 yrs he should have this team playing better. I have played bb since I was4 yrs old. I know the game and how to play (just wasn't blessed with enough of the physical tools to make it. 5'11" white guy..lol). This team doesn't know how to play basketball. Only Sullivan has a bb IQ. That is all the coaches fault. I understand he hasn't had anything to recruit to, but some of the mistakes and the poor free throws should not be happening. I like Lebo, but I think he needs to go. With the $$$$ we put into the new arena we should be able to get a pretty good coach.

if newton is not the starting qb for 2010 for any reason other than injury, it is the first major disaster for chizik's regime. that scholly could have been used somewhere else to fill depth. qb is the one position AU had bodies to choose from, but you almost have to bring in a guy widely considered an elite talent. my focus will be on someone really seperating themselves for the #2 spot behind newton.

for crutin' news:
jlee at rivals said if AU picks up the rest of its primary recruiting targets: de lemonier, dt whittaker, dt thornton, rb lattimore, ol mack, and one of a number of others, AU may be pushing for the #1 recruting class for whatever that means. if you generally stay in the top 10-15 ranking every year, you can play with anyone in the country with a realistic chance to win.

FSJ, strange you mention Beamer, because both he and Tuberville were the hot names back then.

As for Newton, I don't think he is a sure thing and I believe Hoopie has brought up some valid concerns, but I still think Newton is the favorite to be the starter. I don't consider him a lock, but I would give him better than a 50% chance, although there is limited info at this point.

9:34 PM
Blogger Jet said...

Daniel Cobb, Chris Todd and Cameron Newton were all signed for the same reason.

To be the starter.

9:35 PM
Blogger CHB said...

I think Newton is a lock. He has all of the physical tools plus some. You don't waste a spot with our depth issues unless you know he is the starter. Just my opinion.
